Did You Know Beyonce Invented the Non-Verbal Red Carpet Pregnancy Reveal?

beyonce-red-carpet

Speaking of Beyonce being pregnant, did you know that she pioneered the red carpet celebrity pregnancy announcement?

From covering celebrity pregnancy for close to 10 years, I have institutional memory in this area. Bellyitch was one of the first site’s to declare that the “bump watch” origin was Demi Moore’s iconic August 1991 Vanity Fair cover.  Since then, others have accepted that assessment.

A little while ago, I noticed that after Beyonce famously announced her pregnancy by cupping her belly on the red carpet of the 2011 MTV Music Awards, other celebrities have chosen to quietly let the world know they are expecting using that non-verbal gesture.

Of course, she is not the first one to break pregnancy news while talking to entertainment reporters on the chain line, but since she did it, Marion Cotillard, Gwen Stefani, Amber Rose, Kerry Washington, and others chose to confirm rumors and let the world know they were expecting on the red carpet.

I welcome anyone who will prove to me otherwise. Hit me up on Twitter or Instagram or Facebook @Bellyitch! 🙂

Marrion Cotillard and Natalie Portman are Radiant Promoting Upcoming films

Two of my favorite Oscar winning international actresses, the talented Natalie Portman and Marion Cotillardlooked radiant while promoting their respective upcoming movies at screenings this week.

Israeli born Portman went with a striped gown by The Row at the Israel Film Festival Gala in Beverly Hills on Wednesday, November 9 with her hair in a half-up, half-down style with nude makeup . The Academy Award winner polished doff her look with simple hoops by Eddie Borgo and a Vic Minaudière clutch.

Portman stars in Jackie.

Meanwhile, French actress Cotillard stars in a new  WWII drama Allied alongside costar Brad Pitt and looked fabulous in a navy Christian Dior maxi dress accented with an embroidered white hand-strap clutch by Dior, and side swept coifed hair at a fan event for the film at the Regency Village Theatre on November 9, 2016 in Westwood, California.

Both women have 5-year old boys at home.

Cotillard, who starred in Inception. and her longtime partner of 9-years Guillaume Canet are expecting their second child together. The couple are parents to 5-year old son Marcel.

Portman and her choreographer husband Benjamin Millepied are parents to 5-year old son Aleph.

Election Tuesday: Hillary Clinton and Celebs Pantsuit Fashion

pant-suit

This Election Tuesday, US Presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is responsible for a new fashion trend among her supporters: the Pant Suit. The former First Lady is known for wearing color coordinated monochromatic suits.

They have become an item which has become synonymous with her brand so much so that Beyonce  and her backup dancers wore pantsuits during a political rally this weekend in Philadelphia.

Also, a recently created secret Facebook group called Pantsuit Nation has quickly garnered over 1.6M members. They have been posting photos of themselves in pantsuits as they head to the polls today.

There is a store called Hillary in Kosovo in Easter European former Yugoslavian nation that sells suits which Hillary Clinton herself once visited in 2012.

We couldn’t help but use the opportunity to point out all the times in the recent past when some of the celeb moms we’ve “bumpwatched” in the past  such as Christina Milian, Jessica Alba and Garcelle Beauvais rocked fabulous pantsuits.

Beyonce and her sister Solange, both in hot pink Gucci suits within months of one another. Nicole Kidman looked fierce in a Valentino suit with a caped suit top one year. Jessica Biel wore a Dolce & Gabbana suit matching one worn by her husband Justin Timberlake at his Runner Runner premiere in Las Vegas.

Rachel Zoe looked tres stylish in a royal blue satin-trimmed tuxedo suit from her own label to the Giambattista Valli show in Paris in recent years.

Finally, Kim Kardashian did an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman a Saint Laurent black-and-white tuxedo with peep-toe checkered shoes by Givenchy.

Hold Up, the Carter-Knowles Has a Boss Family Halloween Dynasty Too

the-carter-knowleshalloween

Well we’ve always dubbed Neil Patrick Harris and his husband David Burtka and their twins Harper Grace and Gideon Scott  the best celebrity family each Halloween because they’ve consistently outdone themselves each year.

This year was no different. Each member of the family dressed as a different Old Hollywood figure. Harris was Groucho Marx; Burtka was Charlie Chaplin; Harper was Marilyn Monroe; and Gideon, was James Dean.  Costumes like these for an entire family take a lot of planning to pull off.

But it looks like we have been overlooking a blog fave Bumpwatch alum and her family: Beyonce!

The mega star, her husband rapper Jay-Z and their daughter Blue Ivy have rocked some pretty amazing family costumes. And…they usually do more than one each year as well.

This year, she and Jay dressed as Black Barbie and Ken dolls, complete in the packaging and everything. They nailed it!

Mama Knowles, Tina, got in on the act and was a member of Salt-N-Pepa along with Blue Ivy. Amazing!

Last year around Halloween time, Beyonce wore two costumes as well dressing up as Storm for Ciara‘s surprise birthday party that her then-fiance Russell Wilson threw for her.

For Halloween later in the month, the Knowles- Carter clan dressed as characters from the Eddie Murphy cult film, Coming to America.

Beyonce and Jay-Z were Queen and King of the fictional African nation of Zamuda while Blue played Murphy’s love interest in the film, Lisa McDowell.

Mrs. Carter even changed up her outfit to a traditional African print Ankara dress while attending a party with Jay that night.

In 2014, artists was the theme and Bey went as Mexican painter Frida Kahlo while Jay-Z personified the haunted Jean-Michel Basquiat and Blue wore a jacket made of one of Basquiat’s works.

Earlier in the day that year, Queen Bey was dressed as the Queen of R&B 90s pop Janet Jackson from the Rhythm Nation video and Blue was her sister Michael Jackson.

What a great Halloween Family!

Kim Kardashian West Files Libel Suit Against Gossip Site Claiming She Faked Paris Robbery; They Apologize & Retract

media take out

Kim Kardashian West has sued the online gossip site MediaTakeOut.com for libel after the site portrayed her as a liar and a thief after she was robbed in Paris earlier this month.

In a lawsuit filed in a Manhattan federal court, Kardashian West states not only was she traumatized by the October 3, 2016 robbery but was victimized a second time when the site reported after the attack that she faked the robbery and lied about the assault.

No arrests have been made since, according to Paris police, armed robbers posing as police officers tricked the concierge of the private mansion she was renting while in town for Paris Fashion Week, and then eventually tied, bound and gagged both Kardasian West and the concierge and made off with $10M in jewelry.

The lawsuit says she asked the site to publish a retraction and apologize for painting a victim of a serious crime as a criminal. The lawsuit said the “malicious publication of the articles…is libelous.”

After the attack, her husband, Kanye West, abruptly ended his New York concert, announcing that he had a family emergency.

Media Take Out has taken down the post and its editor in chief Fred Mwangaguhunga  told CNN:

“Our number one goal is to produce the most accurate information as quickly as possible and we did that … But now, looking back at it, you have a chance often times to look back and reflect on what it is that happened. It’s now clear that she was robbed. It’s clear that the reporting that we did hurt her, and we certainly don’t want that to be what we do.

It’s a bigger issue than just someone telling you to take it down. Sometimes you take it down because there’s something on there that’s not right and your readers are being misled by the information on it.

Kim Kardashian is not just a celebrity, she is a human being. She is a mother, she is a wife and she was a victim of a violent crime. She definitely did not deserve it and she deserved to be believed.”

Nothing like a million dollar lawsuit to make you change you mind.

This Korean Ballerina’s Maternity Portraits are Breathtaking

ballet

I usually reserve my International Bumpwatch posts for Saturdays but I couldn’t help but early share this majestic maternity photography of an expecting National Korean Ballerina, Hyo Seon Park.

Artistic and editorial photographer BAKi captured Park en pointe and looking breathtaking as she balances on her toes whilst adjusting for the added weight in her belly!

It is reminiscent of the photo shared widely of Lumina Belle, taken when the trainer of Natalie Portman for The Black Swan was heavily pregnant but still dancing ballet.

There are also photos of Park with her spouse too in some nice pics.

Almost There: Audra McDonald Receives National Medal of Arts from Pres. Obama

audra mcdonald 2

Tony-award winning actress and singer Audra McDonald received the National Medal for the Arts from US President Barack Obama yesterday during a ceremony at the White House. I was in the East Room along with reporters from national news outlets covering the event and was able to witness the audacious occasion which also included the awarding of medals to other recipients and to the recipients of the National Humanities Medal.

I watched as the announcer read the citation to all recipients and skipped over McDonald whose name was inadvertently left off of his list. The “Lady Day” Broadway play star shrugged it off but when the announcer went to the next person and did not come back to McDonald, the President told him to “look for Audra”. Finally, during a humorous moment during the event, the President told the announcer that because he is a friend of Audra’s and knows her accomplishment, he could make up a citation on the fly for her. Funny!

No need as an aide walked over and passed a copy of the program and the show went on. Watch the events from my viewpoint, captured on my iPhone.

Very cool to watch one of our #Bellyitch #Bumpwatch moms-to-be @AudraMcDonald get a really special intro from the president as she received her 2015 National Medal of Arts along with other esteemed recipients from President Barack Obama in the White House. In this video our editor-in-chief took, the president offers to make up a citation for his friend when her’s was inadvertently missing from the announcers ‘s list. The multiple-Tony winner, including for her role as Billie Holiday in the critically acclaimed “Lady Day”, is taking a break from her hit Broadway show while she awaits the birth of her 2nd child. She has a 15 year old daughter, Zoe Madeline, and a 10-year old step son, Sawyer with “Private Practice” actor Will Swenson.

She was adorable in a black long lseeve scrunched pencil length dress worn with loose ringlets. McDonald has a 15-year old daughter, Zoe Madeline, from a previous relationship and this will be her and husband Will Swenson‘s first child together. He has a 10-year old son, Sawyer, from a previous relationship as well.

I didn’t get a chance to ask her about the pregnancy because she didn’t walk the reporter’s rope line and I took off, but it was awesome to see her in person.

It was also wonderful to witness to the awarding of other esteemed recipients including Motown founder Berry Gordy, and comedic great Mel Brooks.

During a red carpet interview, she reflected back 20 years to working in Jerry Macguire alongside Cuba Gooding Jr. right after giving birth to her son. The recalled how supportive everyone was on the set to her and allowed her time to breastfeed.

“Honestly I just had my son the month before we started shooting and just being able to be in an environment that embraced a new mom,” the Southland and 24 alum said. “And they took breaks when it was time for me to nurse and that’s what I remember. I remember being able to be an actress and still be a mom and that’s special.”

#TeacherBae: Social Media dubs Elementary School Educator ‘Too Sexy’

sexy teacher

A young Atlanta school educator has become the latest viral internet sensation once images of her curve-hugging dresses started circulating widely on the Internet. Social media users are referring to Patrice Brown, an award-winning school professional, as TeacherBae.

It doesn’t help that Brown’s Instagram is also filled with pictures of herself scantily dressed or in clothes some will consider seductive, and well…that’s just too hot for some on the Internet to handle. Well, not all. She quickly amassed a following of 160,000 shortly after she went viral.

Social media was abuzz with many  people proclaiming that Brown dresses too provocatively for a school, and since then, many others have spoken out in her defense.

The pretty educator reacted to all the fuss.

She told the Daily Dot,”I just wish they would respect me and focus on the positive and what truly matters—which is educating the children of the future generations and providing and caring for them.”

The school system she works for also felt compelled to issue a statement that included a declaration about the school policy.

According to the administrators, Brown isn’t a teacher, but a paraprofessional with the district and has been “given guidance regarding the APS Employee Dress Code.”

A skim of the district’s policy shows language regarding “immodest dress, tight or otherwise revealing” as being considered unacceptable, as well as jeans not worn for special projects and activities.

I guess it doesn’t matter that there are also images of her out there with her school children or that she was once named teacher of the month for her effort.

In a nutshell, Brown, like other women with large breasts, hips or buttocks, are sexualized just because of the size of their physical features. If a woman with smaller body parts wore the same outfit, she wouldn’t be told that she was too sexy.

A couple of years ago, another teacher, Becky Brinkerhoff who lived in a conservative Christian community wrote about her similar experience in the Thought Catalog in 2014.

“My curvy figure—the one that I could not help myself from having—automatically labelled me as sinful,” Brinkerhoff wrote . “I was being guilted for something that I couldn’t change. I was being held to an impossible standard of modesty—one that my body simply could not comply with.”

And curvy women have even lost their jobs simply for having a figure they were born with.

Back in 2010, a Citibank employee says she was fired because the men in her office thought she dressed inappropriately.

When she pointed out she was wearing the same clothing as other women in the office, “They said their body shapes were different from mine, and I drew too much attention,” Debrahlee Lorenzana  told the Village Voice. Citibank denied her claims, and did not enter a settlement with her.

Daily Dot pointed out how the issue of curvy bodies disproportionately affects women of color who are usually more curvy than White women.

“Women of color are so often sexualized through misplaced exotification,” writer Fariha Róisín noted in a January 2016 opinion piece in Fusion. “Before we’re old enough to gauge how the holes toiling inside of our bodies serve a purpose… We are simultaneously told we are ‘undesirable’ by the glaring lack of representation, and that we are, simultaneously, too sexual.”

I wrote about the “curvy girl problems” a few years ago too when our Bellytch Bumpwatch alum Erica Campbell was told the white curve-hugging yet fully covered turtleneck dress she wore for the cover of her first solo album was too sexy.

I pointed out how the late Whitney Houston had wore a similar dress and because Houston had a very thin frame, she wouldn’t have faced the same negative feedback even while wearing the same type of dress.
