5 Budget-Friendly Activities for Families with Kids

With warmer weather finally upon us, everyone has the outdoors in mind. You don’t need to spend a fortune to make memorable memories for the entire family. Below are five fun budget-friendly activities from Ashely Spicer, co-founder of FLYAROO Fitness, a fitness program designed for toddlers and preschoolers.
·         Hula – Hula Hoops are just a few dollars, but can create hours of fun and can be a lifesaver on rainy days when you’re stuck inside. You can use it just like a jump rope, create a human ring toss game, play hula hoop pass or host a friendly competition to see who can hold the classic spin the longest.
·         Mini Yoga – Growing can be stressful on the body and mind and yoga has been proven to improve balance, focus and emotional well-being. Not a yoga expert, no worries, the Butterfly, Tree, Bridge, and Child’s pose are moves any child and parent can do together.
·         Build A Dance Studio – Move furniture and tables out of the way if needed and stick to songs that are 2-3 minutes long. Dancing is not only great for the soul, but just 20 minutes of dancing is great exercise and most importantly fun for the whole family. The best part, you can create your own signature move. Some of my favorite songs to dance to are “Roar” by Katy Perry, “Waka Waka” by Shakira and who doesn’t love the “Cha Cha Slide.”
·       Unstructured Fun – Pack a healthy picnic basket full of fresh fruit and whole grain sandwiches and head to your local park for some unstructured fun. Help your child use their imagination as they swing, slide and climb to victory while you channel your inner kid and fly through the air on the swing set.
·         Just Bike It – If you don’t know how to ride a bicycle, make it your mission this summer to learn. Not only is it great exercise, but can be great for family bonding. If you don’t own your own bike, no worries, many towns have affordable bike rentals. Just make sure your family is wearing proper protective head gear and pads for the junior riders. For babies and toddlers, there are seats that attach to your bike.

Mom of 12 boys gives birth to 13th son

A Michigan couple with 12 sons just can’t seem to make a baby girl. Jay Schwandt and his wife Kateri welcomed their 13th son yesterday, Wednesday, May 13th of all days of the month. Kateri was four days overdue so it’s like this kid wanted to arrive on lucky number 13. Last year, when the two were in the news, they told reporters that they have a tradition of not finding out the gender in advance. “Ok, so the boys know now!” the 40-year-old father said in a post on Facebook. “It’s a BOY! Now we need to choose a name! BLESSED beyond belief!”Kateri said she didn’t mind having another son but Jay admitted he was looking forward to a girl this time.  “My thoughts are it’s probably going to be a boy,” Jay told The Grand Rapids Press before the baby arrived. “But if I could put my order in, I would root for a girl.”I’ve done all the boy stuff. I’d just like to experience it from the other side once.”Their 12 older boys range in age from almost 2 to 22 years old.The odds of giving birth to 12 boys in a row is .02 percent, a genetics expert old The Grand Rapids Press.

MD Cop’s Heroic Infant Rescue is like Something You’d see on TV

Here is a good cop story amidst recent negative reporting about police:
A Maryland police officer responding to a call Thursday night about a woman sobbing hysterically in a car at a shopping mall ended it with a timely rescue.
It was almost like something you’d see on TV or in a movie.
When Officer Dave Reed approached the parked car, he discovered a woman sitting hunched over on the passenger side of the car crying uncontrollably. First she tried to hide what was in her lap from him but then shifted slightly to reveal an infant which looked lifeless, WTOP reports
The baby was wrapped in a heavy fleece blanket and when the baby’s head rolled back, “the eyes kind of rolled back in the baby’s head,” Reed explained to the station.
He could see the baby was unconscious and unresponsive. Reed used his expert training and adjusted the usual CPR procedure to accommodate the small baby.  He used his two fingers to apply chest compressions and the heel of this hand to gently tap the baby’s back.
“Not hard, just enough to jolt the baby,” he said. And that’s when he heard a gasp to let him know the baby was breathing and then eventually it let out a cry.
“I knew we were good — when you can hear a baby cry, then you know you’re good,” the 12-year veteran of the Montgomery County Police Department said.
The baby  was released to relatives today, and hospital officials say she will make a full recovery.
It wasn’t until Reed was at the hospital with the two when he realized the heroism of his actions and that he saved a baby.
“She looked at me with those big brown eyes and grabbed my finger. I was ready to take her home right then,” he said about the child.
The whole situation made him appreciate his own kids more, Officer Reed shared.
“Every night when I go home, I always go in and kiss them and tell them, ‘Daddy’s home safe.’ Last night, I … kind of stayed a little longer,” he said.
Awwww! *sniff* Where are the tissues?
While Reed was resuscitating the tiny infant, the child’s father returned to the car. The baby’s 21-year old mom was taking to the hospital for medical evaluation, Montgomery County Police Department revealed.
Police, Child Protective Services and the state’s Attorney’s office are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Met Gala After Parties- Celeb Moms out Late

After the party is the after party.

Rather than head home following the glamorous celeb-studded Met Gala, some of the celeb moms we’ve followed in the past headed out to the various after parties.

Actress Kerry Washington was spotted at the official “China: Through The Looking Glass” Costume Institute Benefit Gala” After Party on May 4, 2015 at The Standard Hotel in New York City

Katie Holmes and Zac Posen posed up at the Michael Kors and iTunes After Party at The Mark Hotel on May 4, 2015 in New York City.

Solange Knowles was there too and she didn’t go home to change like the others. Last year around this time, everyone was talking about the infamous elevator ride fight video.

Celeb moms went bold in sheer at the 2015 Met Gala

Tonight in New York city was one of the fashion industry’s biggest nights. Stars came out to full glitz and glamour to celebrate the opening of the Costume Institute‘s fashion exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art: “China: Through The Looking Glass.”
In its honor, celebrities are asked to come dressed to the event euphemistically known as the Met Gala (or Met Ball) outfitted in custom designer originals that reflect the theme of the exhibit.
It was a virtual reunion of sorts for us to eye the various celebrity women we’ve featured in Bellyitch in the past walk the red carpet in what is supposed to be the boldest fashion event for the year.
Controversial and much-watched and talked about Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer co-chaired this year’s Met Gala.
The proceeds from the event which long time Vogue editor Anna Wintour produces benefit the Costume Institute. This year the co- chairs were Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer and Wendi Murdoch.
As for the fashion, unfortunately, many played it safe and though looking amazing, were underwhelming in their interpretation of the exhibit. I saw a lot embroidered overlays on dresses and noticed that a lot of ladies selected Chinese designers. Nice.
There were some wow-worthy moments and I noticed a theme with all the mega divas rocking the sheer panel trend.
Beyonce Knowles Carter entered last on the red carpet like the queen of the ball. She stunned in a jewel and beaded embellished ultra sheer form fitting Givenchy dress which was excellently executed and pulled off because she has a much thinner frame now. She’s lost some of her signature curves for a minute I see. The high pony tail is interesting and bold risk. The winged eye liner is a nod to the theme. Jay Z was nice arm candy in his dapper tux.

Not to be outdone, Jennifer Lopez too showed off her fabulous body in a sheer nude Atelier Versace  dress with red sequins overlay, paired with a crimson clutch covered in Swarvoski crystals. It was signature J.Lo.
Kim Kardashian went sheer too in this fabulous well-designed custom Roberto Cavalli dress that hugged her curves with strategically placed beaded and jeweled embroider overlay and an elaborate feathered train. It was very eye-catching and drool worthy indeed.  Hubby Kanye West looked nice too.

Sarah Jessica Parker did weave in the theme by topping her black Asian-inspired kimono dress she designed for H&M with a Philip Treacy head piece. Of course she wore her SJP Collection on her feet while toting a cute Fendi clutch (not seen in photo). Her jewels were by Jennifer Fisher, Cindy Chao, and Fred Leighton.

New mom Olivia Wilde also portrayed the theme in Prada with a muted silver Prada clutch, gloves and head band and Solange Azagury-Partridge earrings.

Sienna Miller was giving me Asian page boy in this Thakoon fringed tuxedo pants set. I love how that jacket opens in the front and the tassel earrings and belt really set off this look. She carried a matching red Rauwolf clutch in hand.

Emily Blunt channeled her inner geisha in Prada‘s take on the kimono. She went with Anna Hu earnings and a midnight blue Prada clutch.

Kate Hudson‘s interpretation of Chinese design was exquisitely done by Michael Kors in this custom gown that featured intricate gold leafing layered over the bodice of the dress. The top bun completes this look for me. Gorg!  Slay!

I didn’t really see Chinese aesthetic in this Zac Posen gown that Katie Holmes wore but I was convinced by the dramatic bob hair with the bangs. Nice.

Kerry Washington brought in spring in this very full asymmetric Prada ball gown that she creatively paired with green satin pumps and clutch, while rocking fine Harry Winston jewels. I could see the artwork of a Chinese relief painting in the embroidered embellishments in the train.

Claire Danes too didn’t really do the theme thing but she did look nice in this forest green black leather belted Valentino dress that she wore with Fred Leighton jewels. She managed to bring in edgy with the dark lips.

I could appreciate designer Roland Mouret‘s silhouette and handiwork on this dress Maggie Gyllenhaal is outfitted in. It reminds me of a work of abstract art. She carried a gold Palais Royal clutch.

We had a baby on board tonight as Jaime King worked the red carpet in radiant orange. She accented the look in red custom Jason Wu clutch and heels and dripped in Forevermark diamonds.

Miranda Kerr pulled off the modern Chinese millennial businesswoman in this black and silver Louis Vuitton mini dress. I think the middle of the head parted slick back hair works great with this look.

Fellow model Adriana Lima looked like a porcelain China doll in this custom Marc Jacobs dress, accented with Chopard jewelry, and a Judith Leiber clutch.

Another top model Lily Aldridge‘s  Carolina Herrera dress looked like water flowing to me and I absolutely loved it. One of my favorites of the night. The quirky fish clutch was a nice eclectic added touch. See the visual effect comes through totally.

More embroidered overlay in this gorgeous custom  Louis Vuitton dress that actress Jennifer Connelly wore, paired with  Jessica McCormack jewelry.

Wow! Uma Thurman is statuesque and striking in this white Versace dress that gives off a Grecian feel to me. Wrong country but still a beautiful look Oscar worthy not Met ball edgy enough.

As usual, Solange  Knowles pushed the envelope and wasn’t afraid of going bold and over the top in this Giles Deacon creation that resembles a Chinese fan. Well played.

As she always does, Ivanka Trump looked stunning in Oscar de la Renta and Cindy Chao jewels. It’s classic Ivanka and the extra long train with the white block in the train is the “extra”  for the Met Gala.

I really liked Alicia Keys  in this playful Jean Paul Gaultier ensemble. It’s a mix of structured on top with that sharp fitted jacket and bustier juxtaposed with feminine daintiness on the bottom with the ballerina tulle but it works.

Reese Witherspoon was sophisticated bombshell in ruby red Jason Wu. A beautiful yet safe and non-newsworthy choice.

Royal Baby #2 Frenzy & Watch is on!

The Duchess of Cambridge is currently a few days overdue to deliver her second child with her husband Prince William.

There is rumor out that she will be induced this week or next.  In the meantime, Royal Baby #2 watchers are worked up in a frenzy in anticipation and (some in hopes) that the next baby is a girl.

Who wouldn’t want it to be a princess? This is the case because the couple have suggested plans to name her after Will’s late mom, Princess Diana if it is a girl.

Kate Middleton and William celebrated their 4th wedding anniversary this week. It would have been cool if the baby arrived that day but no such luck!

Check out the assortment of social media images of people expressing their excitement over at E! Online!

who is currently pregnant with her second child, is overdue, according to multiple reports, and per the U.K’s Telegraph, the 33-year-old royal may be induced this week.

Back in March, Prince George’s mama revealed that her due date is “mid to end” of April and we’re now just two days away from May, so understandably, eager royal admirers are feeling a little restless.

‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo’s Mama June will be a grandma again

At the ripe old age of 35, former VH1 reality TV star Mama June Shannon will be a two time grandmom.

The family matriarch cast member of the now-canceled Here Comes Honey Boo Boo announced via Instagram that her oldest daughter, Anna Shannon Cardwell, 20, is pregnant with her second child.

“Well guess who will b a gigi and aunts again in December we will,” she captioned the photo with all the kids and Cardwell’s daughter Kaitlyn, adding ”@annamarie35 texted me late last night and told me she was 6 wks as of thursday.”

She wasn’t too thrilled about becoming a grandmother again so soon. She expressed some concern about  Cardwell and her husband Michael Cardwell‘s age.

“They r too young to have another one i will support her and Michael but katilyn will always b gigis first baby,” she wrote in the caption.

It was Cardwell’s allegation that Mama June’s on-again-off-again boyfriend Mark McDaniel molested her as a child which lead to the eventual cancelling of the show.

Why this writer while pregnant wished she was carrying a girl

Today, over on our partner site at Pop Sugar Moms, author and new first time mom Kate Schweitzer has a heartwarming post on why she wanted a baby girl when she found out she was first pregnant.
Generally, in society, when we hear a pregnant woman express preference for wanting her unborn child to be of a certain gender, we may be quick to dismiss her reason as based on the superficial: maybe she just wants to dress a girl, maybe she wants a boy because she doesn’t want the stress of raising a daughter or thinks a male child has more value.
But Schweitzer’s reason is more tender than that. Read the relatively short post over at PopSugar Moms HERE!
