steven yeun and joana pak

Congratulations are in order to my favorite The Walking Dead alum Steven Yeun and his photographer wife Joana Pak!

Pak used the occasion of the couple’s two year wedding anniversary to share with her 100K followers that she is expecting her second child.

A post shared by Joana Pak (@jopakka) on

She posted a mirror selfie revealing a burgeoning baby bump along with emojis of their family tree. She looked absolutely beautiful and fresh faced! Glowing! (smile)

Yeun is very private but you can catch glimpses of his life as a dad and hubby in Pak’s very tender and intimate Instagram feed which recently included a photo from the C-section birth of the couple’s first child, son Jude Malcolm!

Yeun, best known for his breakout role in the hit AMC television show The Walking Dead, and Pak married December 3, 2016  at  L.A.’s historic Paramour Estate before many of Yeun’s former co-stars from the hit AMC Television show:  Norman Reedus, Andrew Lincoln, Melissa McBride, Sarah Wayne Callies, Chandler Riggs, Emma Bell and Alanna Masterson.

And although I am a big TWD fan, I still am still mourning the death of Yeun’s beloved character on the show, Glenn sniff as he was one of my faves.

Congrats to the Growing Family!!

Here’s Your Thanksgiving Family Manners Dinner Guide to Not Losing It!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Tis the season for conspicuous consumption and overeating.

Also, welcome the season of family gatherings, togetherness and bonding. Sadly, this is also a time for tension, rudeness and gaffes, feeding grudges, creating new ones and dodging snarky barbs, criticism and other well-meaning but annoying questions and comments from family members.

My audience is pregnant women mainly so if you’re expecting, I know your emotions are on level 100 and tolerance for bull is at -100!

Here are some quick tips I thought of to set you and the kids straight in the manners department and for escaping the family gatherings still loving one another, well, mostly.

Moms-to-be – Bite your tongue, mama! Bite it! If it will help, carry a squeeze ball to torture when you run out of nerves to handle some of the intrusive questions and comments you will get:

  • Were you trying?
  • Did you want a boy/girl?
  • Why did you pick that name?
  • So you are sticking with that name (the passive aggressive version)
  • Another one?
  • This is it right? (the passive aggressive version)

Your Kids- Your children might have heard you talking about Aunt Sally’s no-good boyfriend with no job or Uncle Rob’s arrest or Cousin Barb getting fired for the 3rd time this year. Remind them to not bring any of this  up or butt in with an opinion on whatever personal stresses, trauma or gossip they may or may not have overheard you yapping about this year. Trust.

Manners – If you’re hosting, remind the kids of basic manners. You know they won’t remember.  Tell the kids to take coats and throw them gently in that pile on the bed when there is no more room in the coat closet.  Remind them to say please, and thank you and to share their toys with their cousins and other children coming over. And to play nice and try to stick to the basement. Ha! Just kidding, but yeah.

If you are going over someone’s house as a guest, remind them to not complain out loud about Great Aunt Wilhelmina’s funny smell, or twist up their noses at your cousin’s girlfriends attempt as string bean salad. It’s hard not to wear emotions on your sleeve when you’re staring at raisins in a macaroni dish, but blame the Food Network (in  your head) and don’t start any beefs over it.

Dinner Topics: Politics and Religion – Try to avoid both topics especially in these contentious times. If they come up , switch up the convo.  Even if everyone in the family are of the same political bent, these are still complex topics that can get heated and go from 0 to 100 Real Quick!

Clean Up – Know when to call it a night and rap up. If you’re a guest, don’t take all of the people’s leftovers in the carryout container you brought with you. Leave them a spoonful or two.

But do offer to do the dishes, or send in one of your older children to help. You’ll still get the credit! ha!  If you’re expecting, you’ll probably get a pass anyone on clean up duty because you shouldn’t be on your feet anyway!  Yeah, milk this pregnancy for all it’s worth! ha!

If you’re hosting and you had enough, feel free to hug and kiss the last stragglers good night, blame it on the baby and leave them right there and all the dishes for your spouse and kids to clean up. Hopefully, they’ll get the hint and exit after you leave. Ha! That’s not rude. Is it? ha!

I think that’s it! Chime in and drop us some more on line! Connect with us @Bellyitch on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest!

9 Tips for Your Next Family Vacation in Marrakech

Since my post about Egyptian vacations did so well and was well received, I’m going to explore another exotic vactoin

Morocco is one of the most beautiful countries in northern Africa, with a rich history and a fascinating culture it’s a great place to visit as a family and have something to share regardless of the age difference.

If you’re going to visit Morocco, the best place to land and stay would be Marrakech, the economic and tourist hub of the Kingdom and perhaps of all northern Africa.

In this article, you’ll find 9 tips that will make your stay at Marrakech more enjoyable, from important aspects like where and how to find Marrakech rentals, to smaller things that will make the travel more comfortable, like knowing the language and what gear to bring.

Find a Place to Stay Before Arriving

Although Marrakech expanded significantly in the tourism sector, during the seasons, it can get tricky to find a good hotel or a rental home due to the massive influx of tourists.

If you want a luxurious retreat with high-quality services, you might want to take a look online at Marrakech rentals before arriving so you can find a villa or a vacation rental home that’s to your liking and can accommodate your family without any issues.

Mind the Language

The official languages of Morocco are Standard Arabic and Berber, but that doesn’t mean you have to take classes of these languages to communicate.

Most Moroccans take French as a second language as it’s the primary language for business in the country.

In Marrakech, it’ll greatly benefit you to speak at least French, but most people in the tourism industry will know English or Spanish since it’s the most common language of tourists that visit the city.

Travel Light and With Comfortable Clothing

Temperatures in Marrakech are mostly on the comfortable range, leaning towards heat. However, in the summer the temperature can reach as high as 40 C so you might want to find some shade, cool up in your hotel or villa’s pool, and stay hydrated.

Depending on where you come from it might be a drastic change but if you compare it to other African countries and cities, the climate is much more bearable.

Moreover, besides light clothing make sure to pack comfortable exercising garments if you’re going to participate in some of the dozens of activities available in the city, like camel riding, hiking the Atlas Mountains, or a leisure stroll through the Medinas.

Get a Guide

The Medinas are fascinating cities, with beautiful architecture and busy streets, but you’ll probably get lost without an experienced and trustworthy guide.

Not only will it help you not to get lost in the maze-like streets, but they’ll also gladly take you to the cultural landmarks and the hidden beauties of the Medinas, and serve as a deterrent of possible pickpockets and off-track guides trying to lead you into their stores.

Be Mindful of Their Traditions

Morocco and Marrakech opened up to tourism and are looking forward to increasing the number of tourists they receive every year, however, this doesn’t mean they have forgotten their ancient traditions and religion.

They might be more flexible than other Muslims countries, but you might cause a frown or get unwanted attention if you’re not cautious with what you say or do.

Especially for women, who although they don’t have to comply with Muslim traditions, should at least try to wear clothes that cover most of their bodies to not draw any unpleasant looks from other women.

Get Ready to Make New Friends

Moroccans are a welcoming society with friendly smiles everywhere. You’ll feel comfortable wherever you go as people greet you with kind gestures and invite you to join them in their day to day activities.

Whether it’s your children or yourself, you’re bound to make some new friends in Marrakech as you tour through the Medinas with a guide, or stop by to have food in the local markets.

Open up to New Experiences

Marrakech has hundreds of different events and experiences going up at all times, especially during the night when the markets fill up with entertainers, snake charmers, and food stalls.

Don’t be afraid to try something new and enjoy this new experiences from a different culture, you’ll quickly learn why people love Marrakech and tourism is growing so fast.

Take for example Moroccan cuisine, their dishes are delicious, from the Couscous to the Tajine, or the dozens of other delicacies you can find in the markets are exquisite, but if you’re not familiar with their dishes or you’re traveling with picky eaters, like children, dinner time could get hard.

Open up to new flavors and try out traditional Moroccan dishes, you’ll quickly fall in love with the scents and flavors of their gastronomy

Take a Trip Through the Desert

If you go to Marrakech, you have to take a tour through the Sahara. You can’t miss sighting the beautiful dunes of the Sahara and taking a picture of you and your family with the everlasting sea of sand.

You can also take a more extended tour through the Sahara by seeking a local guide. It will have you ride atop of camels and enjoy their traditions. Alternatively, you can have an extreme take on the same trip and ride an all-terrain vehicle across the dunes.

Learn the Art of Trading

When you get to the markets, you’ll notice that most items and services don’t have a fixed price, that’s because Marrakech store owners are used to haggling prices with everyone.

You better get ready to start negotiating since most prices will go higher than what they usually are, and this goes for both items and services, so expect to haggle with mostly everyone.

Enjoy the Marrakech Experience

Tourism is proliferating in Morocco, and it’s very simple to see why, they have a marvelous culture, beautiful sights and a friendly community that loves having tourists.

You’ll find dozens of activities to experience everywhere, events of every kind going on in the squares, and hundreds of food stalls with amazing cuisine to indulge. Moreover, you can stay in a luxurious villa or a traditional Riad and relax to your fullest in this marvelous city.

Hopefully, this tips will become useful in the next trip you have to Marrakech, and you’ll enjoy your journey much more by having this little tips of information at hand before arriving.

Additionally, fourth and fifth graders can take advantage of a beginner lift, lesson, and rental package free.  Snowpasses are issued on a first-come, first-serve basis, so PSAA encourages families to fill out their applications online now.

And, families DO NOT need to be from PA to participate.  There is a nominal online processing fee of $35 before Dec. 1 and $40 after.

Celebrating its fifteenth anniversary this season, the Snowpass program can be used even if your child has never skied or snowboarded before.

Children and adults can earn points toward a Presidential Active Lifestyle Award by skiing and snowboarding. Twenty-one ski/snowboard resorts across Pennsylvania belong to the Snowpass program.

The Snowpass can be used at the following Pennsylvania ski area resorts:

First-Time Ski Tips for Kids

It can be a little overwhelming skiing with kids in tow for the first-time. SkiPA has five helpful tips to make the experience less stressful and enjoyable for all.

  • Memorize the NSAA Your Responsibility Code

Before embarking out on the first ski trek, make sure everyone in the family discusses the Your Responsibility Code . The National Ski Areas Association developed the code to help skiers and boarders be aware that there are elements of risk in snow sports that common sense and personal awareness can help reduce.

  • Wear a Helmet

The National Ski Areas Association recommends wearing a helmet. It is important to make sure the helmet fits correctly for maximum protection and comfort on the slopes. A ski and snowboard helmet are not something to grow into. Learn more at www.LidsonKids.org.

  • Dress for Success

Properly suiting up for a day on the slopes is key to staying warm and dry. Cotton clothing such as jeans and a sweatshirt will become wet, then cold. So, the key is to make smart fabric choices and dress in layers. Layering allows the body to adapt to changing temperatures. Look for fabric that is water and wind-resistant. Most importantly, kids should wear a hat or headband, polyester or wool socks and gloves or mittens as the extremities are the first to feel heat-loss.

  • Wear Sun Protection

Always make sure children have sunscreen and ski goggles. The sun reflects off the snow, so is stronger than you think even on overcast days. Goggles provide the best protection for every day on the slopes, especially for children. Making sure the goggles fit properly is very important. When fitting children, be sure to try on the helmet and goggles together to make sure they fit seamlessly.

  • Take a Lesson

Start kids out with a ski lesson by a trained professional. Most resorts offer lessons for kids as young as three or four. Children’s instructors know how to teach kids specifically by starting with key fundamentals and slowly progressing to make the experience fun while building confidence on the slopes.

Good luck and have fun!

From its historical sites to the more modern tourist attractions, Egypt is the perfect place to go for a family vacation. If you do decide to visit Egypt for a family vacation, here are some of the best ways to enjoy it:

  1. A Nile River Cruise: The Nile is perhaps the most famous river in Egypt as well as being the longest river in the world.

A Nile river cruise with family would be a great way to enjoy an Egyptian holiday. On one hand, you get to visit one of the greatest rivers in the world. On another hand, you get to sail through Egypt, catching a view of various landmarks.

You will also have the opportunity to stop and visit various cultural sites such as Luxor temple, the world’s largest outdoor museum, Karnak temple, Philae Temple and Hatshepsut temple.

If you’re looking for the perfect balance between leisure and cultural enrichment, a Nile River cruise would be a great option for you and your family.

  1. Visit the Pyramids: One can hardly think of Egypt without thinking of the pyramids, and for good reasons. No trip to Egypt is quite complete without a stop at the pyramids.

These monuments have stood for hundreds of years and continue to attract millions around the world. There are around eighty pyramids in number but some of the most popular are the pyramids of Giza, the pyramid of Djoser and the Red Pyramid.

Visiting the pyramids is sure to be a great memory for the family as well as an educational opportunity for the children. If you’re visiting Egypt, make sure to see the pyramids.

  1. Visit museums: Egypt is practically bursting with culture and history and this is shown through its various museums that house centuries-old artifacts.

Take a trip to some of the popular museums such as the world-renowned Egyptian museum in Cairo, the Luxor Museum in Luxor and the mummification museum which is also in Luxor.

These museums also have souvenir shops in which you can purchase memorabilia to commemorate your family trip.

Also, visit some of the lesser-known but still interesting ones such as the Nubian museums. Many feature exhibitions that cater to a younger audience which makes sure that the kids don’t miss out on anything.

  1. A desert safari: Egypt, as most people know, is in a desert and this means that there is a great number of fun activities that can be engaged in during a visit there.

There is camel riding through the desert as well as dune riding. If you fancy a more laid back experience, there is the option of a safari in an air-conditioned vehicle that allows you to see the Egyptian desert in all its glory.

Many safaris also offer a desert camping experience if you are interested. It is sure to be a fun experience for the entire family.

  1. Visit the coral reefs: It’s important to escape the heat when in the Egyptian desert and what better way than diving in the red sea?

While it is not eh most advertised activity to engage in while in Egypt, the Red Sea is home to an amazing coral reef that is open to divers.

This gives you the opportunity to not only cool off but also to see a wide variety of sea life up close such as sharks, dolphins, and stingrays.

It is a great activity for the whole family you don’t want to miss.

  1. Visit the local souk: No trip is complete without shopping and besides the many malls and shopping complexes that can be found in Egypt, a visit to a local souk is in order.

At a souk, you can find a variety of authentic Egyptian items to take back home, from tapestry to lamps to fragrances.

If you’re looking for the perfect souvenir or gift courtesy of your Egyptian trip, take a trip to a local souk.

Frustrated New Parents: Try My Natural Colic Treatment

They tell moms who breastfeed that there is no need to supplement a newborn or infant with water because they get all the water they need in the milk.

My mother begs to differ. she and I fought because for my first kid, I only listened to the docs and what i read in books. she and i butt heads on traditional, holistic, natural and native remedies and home cures based on how she raised her four children and what was in vogue 20-30 years ago. i thought i knew it all and was convinced these new and tested ways of raising a child trumped those old fashioned views from her era.

I was stubborn. I didn’t listen. however, by the time i was on child two, of course, as with most once neurotic, obsessive and psycho first time moms i relaxed a bit. against the suggestions of the books and doctors, i gave my second water and other of mom’s “old fashioned” remedies which surprise surprise worked! the second kid was a mellow baby who was not fussy and rarely cried or exhibited signs of colic.

It’s with that lesson that I chose to treat my daughter’s then recent bout of late night colic like crying with some water treatment.

First, I cleaned her tongue of that film of milk that has been accumulating for the past 4 weeks. i brushed it off with the infant toothbrush thing that fits over your finger. then, i sterilized the Svent infant bottle and fed her an ounce of warm spring water. she drank the water and even breathed a sigh of relief as she drank. soon after, i massaged her belly, walked with her and she pooped. i think a lot of her discomfort had to do with an upset tummy and the water may have been a much needed break and relief from milk.

After her diaper change, she slept for 4 hours straight and didn’t wake up until later. so far so good…:D
