Halloween Costume Idea: 1970s Hippie, Bohemian or Roller Girl

This weekend, I attended my friend’s milestone birthday party which had a 1970s Disco Theme. Guests were encouraged to come dressed in Disco outfits. I didn’t focus on the disco part and thought 1970s and came up with three non-disco themed ideas! Doh! lol

First, was the Roller Girl, which works because Roller skate girls frequently went to the disco and Disco music was played often in roller rinks during the 1970s.

Shop the Look

Next, I thought Afrocentric Bohemian. Get a black tube top[shop the look], cropped or not, then paired it with a large Dashiki print skirt from Etsy.

Finally, I came up with 1970s hippie chick with a Bohemian dress, shag vest, circular red sunglasses and sandals. She would be attending a music festival to listen to Janis Joplin or Jimi Hendrix but I’m certain she’d sneak off to the disco too sometimes. ha!

3 Reasons Why Peasant Dresses Are The Best for Chic Expecting and New Moms

I love peasant dresses so much and I think they are the best for fashionable and stylish expecting and new moms on the mend after giving birth for three reasons.

1. The A-line Silohuette. This style of dresses is A-line, meaning, the silhouette resembles the letter A. It can conceal a growing bump if you are in your early stages of pregnancy and do not want to reveal the news yet to others. Also, if you are slowly getting your pre-birth body back, a peasant dress can also conceal your still very much there post parump belly.

2. The Empire Waist. Another plus in this style of dress is the fact that a lot of them are empire waist and therefore are usually cut at the breastbone. This design means the dress will not be too constricting on your growing belly or portruding tummy and will give your room to breathe if you are still growing a tiny human and find breathing a little taxing. Yet the Bohemian style is still chic and trendy so you can be cute too.

3. They Flatter All Shapes. I love this style also because they can accommodate most body shapes: Apple, Curvy, thin, and more! I recently purchased a Bohemian dress from Forever 21 and wore it on vacation recently and I discovered I could have worn that dress in three different style. Like a baby doll dress with flip flops for a casual stroll; as a peasant dress for a mid-day outdoor lunch and off the shoulder for an evening out, as I displayed in a recent Instagram post:

The sky’s the limit with peasant dresses  I curated a few of my faves in the widget below to give you some inspiration and styling ideas! Enjoy!
