P!nk and Logic Gave the Most Impactful Speeches at the MTV VMAs WATCH!

As usual during Awards shows, artists use their time and platform to espouse messages to their audience. Last night’s MTV VMAs is no stranger to being used as a conduit to deliver news.

Last night, P!nk and hip hop artist Logic, in our opinion delivered the two of the most impactful remarks.

P!nk while accepting the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award spoke of her 5-year old daughter who needed a self-esteem boost recently.

“If I may tell you a quick story,” Pink began her acceptance speech relaying a recent exchange with her daughter.

“‘Momma, I’m the ugliest girl I know,'” Pink said her daughter told her one day. “I said, huh? She was like, ‘I look like a boy with long hair.’ My brain went to, oh my God you’re six, where is this coming from?” Pink said.

“I didn’t say anything. Instead I went home and made a PowerPoint presentation for her. In that presentation were androgynous rockstars and artists that live their truth and are probably made fun of everyday of their life and carry on and wave their flag and inspire the rest of us,” she said before naming famous androgynous musicians like Annie Lennox, Prince, George Michael, Elton John, and Michael Jackson.

She then ended her tale with a powerful statement. “We don’t change—we take the gravel in the shell and make a pearl,” she said. “We help other people to change to see more kinds of beauty. Thank you for being your true selves and lighting the way for us,” she wrapped up before giving props to other celebs in the audience.

“You my darling girl are beautiful and I love you,” she said to her daughter, who was in the crowd.

This speech also explains why she and her family were dressed in oversized pin stripe suits, a hat tip to androgyny.  Kudos to her for being so present and responsive.

Also, new artist Logic sang his hit song “1-800-273-8255“, which is the national Suicide Prevention Hotline number, and was joined on stage towards the end by a few dozen people of all races, persuasion, and background who have attempted suicide in the past.

The front of their shirts had the number and the back read, “you are not alone.” It was powerful because you could see yourself represented among those people and that sends a powerful message that suicide impacts everyone.

We also found Logic’s plea for acceptance and tolerance much needed, especially in today’s heated political climate.

“I just want to take a moment right now and thank you all so much for giving me a platform to talk about something that mainstream media doesn’t want to talk about,” he said. “Mental health, anxiety, suicide, depression and so much more that I talk about on this album. From racism, discrimination, sexism, domestic violence, sexual assault and so much more.”

The hip hop artist called his fans to take action on achieving equality.

“I don’t give a (expletive) if you’re black, white or any color in between. I don’t care if you’re Christian, you’re Muslim, you’re gay, you’re straight — I’m gonna fight for your equality because I believe that we are all born equal, but we are not treated equal and that is why we must fight. We must fight for the equality of every man, woman and child regardless of race, religion, color, creed and sexual orientation.”

Christie Brinkley denies shading ex Billy Joel’s surprise wedding to his young pregnant girlfriend

While entertaining friends at their annual Fourth of July party on Saturday, veteran musician Billy Joel and his pregnant longtime girlfriend, Alexis Roderick, had a surprise wedding.

Joel’s longtime friend New York Governor Mario Cuomo presided over the ceremony that took place at Joel’s Long Island estate.

Shortly after the news broke, Joel’s ex-wife Instagrammed a seemingly shade-filled congratulatory message.

“Congratulation to the glowing bride and groom,” she captioned a wedding photo of the newlyweds. ” And to my daughter Alexa, who has a wonderful friend in Alexis! Wishing the growing family every happiness!”

The ex-model, who was married to Joel for 9 years, have a now 29-year old daughter who is close in age to Roderick who is 34. Some interpreted the message as a jab.

This is Joel’s fourth marriage and the first for the former Morgan Stanley Investment banker’s first as well as her first child she is expecting this Summer.

This will be Joel’s second child.

His first marriage to his former music partner’s ex wife Elizabeth Webber Small produced no children and neither his 5-year marriage to columnist and TV host Katie Lee after his marriage with Brinkley.

After the all the press speculation of malice in Brinkley’s message, her publicist cleared the record, telling MailOnline :

There was by no means a cynical angle here and to say this is a backwards compliment, is not the truth nor was it the intention. Christie genuinely cares for Alexis, Billy’s new bride, and their daughter Alexa loves her, too. It was a happy and loving event and her Instagram reflected that sentiment.

Given the fact that Brinkley attended Joel’s wedding to Lee who was 23-years old at the time while Alexa, then 18, served as Maid-of-Honor, it’s pretty safe to say there indeed wasn’t any ill-intent to the well-wishing as the exes have remained good friends.

Brinkley has her hands full solo parenting a 17-year old son, Sailor, with fourth husband architect Peter Cook (Joel attended that ceremony) and 20-year old son, Jack, with her third husband, real estate developer Richard Taubman.

Fun Fact: Joel played his 65th show at Madison Square Garden last Wednesday — surpassing Elton John as the artist with the most concerts at the arena.

Designers Dolce and Gabanna call IVF & surrogate babies ‘synthetic children’

Italian designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, creators of Dolce & Gabbana are getting flak over comments they made about same-sex parents and babies conceived via artificial insemination.
In an interview with Italian magazine  Panorama, the duo, who are also gay and were once a couple, said they didn’t think gay couples should have children.
“You are born to a mother and a father. Or at least that’s how it should be,” Dolce told the magazine. “I call children of chemistry, synthetic children. Rented wombs, semen chosen from a catalog.”
He continued, “you are born to a mother and a father. Or at least that’s how it should be.”

The top designer of high-priced high end clothing then went on, “I call children of chemistry, synthetic children. Rented wombs, semen chosen from a catalog.”
Gabbana was also quoted as saying, “We oppose gay adoptions. The only family is the traditional one.”
Many couples, including same-sex and male -female ones, opt for conceiving a baby via non-traditional methods like intrauterine insemination, in which fertilized embryos are created in a lab from eggs and sperm and then implanted into a woman or surrogacy which requires sperm to be transferred into a woman using a catheter.
It’s a popular option for those who want to have kids with their own DNA.

Famous heteros who underwent IVF treatment include Céline DionJaime King and Mariah Carey

E! Online reminds us that Miss World 2014 Rolene Strauss was conceived via IVF to a heterosexual couple, and is a “test tube” baby.
Elton John was the most outspoken celebrity to the remarks. He launched a social media campaign with the hashtag #BoycottDolceGabbana.
“How dare you refer to my beautiful children as ‘synthetic,'” John wrote in an Instagram post on Sunday. “And shame on you for wagging your judgmental little fingers at IVF – a miracle that has allowed legions of loving people, both straight and gay, to fulfill their dream of having children.”
The award-winning veteran performer remarked:
“Your archaic thinking is out of step with the times, just like your fashions,” said the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter. I shall never wear Dolce and Gabbana ever again. #BoycottDolceGabbana”
Other celebs including Sharon Stone and Ricky Martin, who is also gay and has a set of adopted twin children, spoke out in social media in support of John.
John  married his partner David Furnish  in England in December 2014. The two are parents to 4-year old Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John and 1-year old Elijah Joseph Daniel Furnish-John, both born to a surrogate mothers.
Following Gabanna’s Instagram reply  saying, “This is the real respect for a different opinion????”.  They’ve gotten supporters too who are using the hashtag #BoycottJohn.
They’ve since released a formal statement in reply (mentioned above) saying it was not their intent to judge the choices of others.
