Here are 5 tips for hiding a pregnancy:

Another Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week has wrapped up and here are our favorite Bellyitch Bumpwatch mom alums who were spotted fabulously dressed in the front rows of some of the top designers’ runway shows!
Jada Pinkett Smith wand pretty and soft in structured separates with her white blouse and shimmering peach pencil skirt.
Camila Alves looked gorgeous at DKNY in a sexy sheer panel dress featuring a feminine, full-skirted silhouette.
Rachel Zoe wowed at Versus Versace in a black one-shoulder gown and gold blazer, seen here with hubby Rodger Bermann.
Padma Lakshmi attends the Ralph Rucci Fashion Show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2015 on September 6, 2014 in New York City.
Jennifer Lopez rocked a black asymmetrical cut out halter gown featuring a thigh high slit that exposed her toned pins and a gold metal blade detail on bodice at the Fashion Rocks event, where she also performed.
Lily Aldridge was vavavoom in Emilo Pucci at the Harper’s Bazaar salutes icon event.
With confirmation that the Duchess of Cambridge is expecting the second royal baby with her husband Prince William, we say let the bump watch begin and the maternity style watch as well. Last round, we complained that Kate Middleton‘s style, while pristine, crisp, cultured and well-put together worked well, it was a bit on the boring side. We longed for more playful experimentation with whimsical scarves and cluthes or toppers and such. Alas, being a princess means you have to be on the conservative and safe side. So, we’ve given up.
Here are our top picks for Kate’s wardrobe this round:
For a daytime visit, we recommend the Vince Short Sleeve Drop Shoulder Maternity Dress by A Pea in the Pod.
For a formal state or business event, we recommend the Isabella Oliver Ellon Maternity Dress.
On a night out during a formal evening affair, Kate would turn heads in this Lace Amelia maternity dress from Tiffany Rose in Windsor Blue!
Tongues would certainly be flapping if Kate stepped out in pants, wearing one of her fave designers from her first pregnancy, Love by Top Shop, during a casual tour of a facility or at the opening of a hospital ward.
1. Black Dress – The classic black dress comes in maternity styles and is a perfect thing to wear for a variety of outings, date nights, corporate parties, concerts and more!
2. Wrap dress – A wrap dress is THE best option, especially in black, for any event. It works well in casual, after 5 or more formal occasions. Use accessories and shoes to make it appropriate.
3. Fitted Suit – Even if you cannot find a suit tailored to your belly, a blazer that fits on the shoulders but is tapered at the waist and a matching pair of maternity slacks will do. It’s not easy to wear a traditional suit with extra belly, but it can be done.
4. White Collared Button Down Shirt – Every woman must own a white button down collar shirt in her wardrobe. A crisp shirt is great for the office or weekend.
5. Silk Scarf – A colorful silk scarf will add the spark of flavor and style to a monochromatic or otherwise vanilla outfit.
6. Khaki pants – Khaki pants can complement a variety of tops and are casual but can still be pulled of at more formal events or venues if paired with some pears or a twin set.
7. A Tote – A staple for any woman whether she is preggers or not is a handbag tote that can fit all of her essentials and then some. These can double as a diaper bag too if necessary and are more stylish than typical diaper bags.
8. Bulky Sweater – A bulky sweater is your friend when the temperature drops and even if you are going into venues with the air conditioning still blasting. Get them in dark colors that can complement whatever you are wearing.
9. Diamond Studs – Classic studs can be dressed up or down and if you are toting around an infant, she won’t yank them out your ear as she would a pair of hoops.
10. Stretchable Boots – that can expand as your calves grown and that have more give so it is not too constraining and tough on your circulation
Capsule wardrobes have been the “in” thing for a short while now. In sum, they are a collection of various pieces that can be mixed and matched and interchanged with accessories to fit a season, a certain work climate or for a special weekend or event.
I recently spotted Alison Gary‘s exquisite collections on her Wardrobe Oxygen blog. I am inspired to create a maternity version of these later, but in the meantime, check out these 10 capsule collections and to get any or all of any one collection, check out Wardrobe Oxygen HERE!
I must admit, though, that I yearned for her to dress in an African design especially given that her husband’s lineage directly links to Kenya. I do understand the importance of not necessarily playing politics and being neutral.
Dr. Jill Biden, the Second Lady and wife to Vice President Joe Biden, however, did go with an African wax print dress with origins to Congo. A Washington Post piece noted how Dr. Biden met many African women involved in textile trade as a means of earning money for themselves, their families and community, and wanted to pay homage to those women she met on her recent journey.
Bravo!
I thought to use this opportunity to highlight again one of my favorite local African designer Finda Onuigbo, a Nigerian immigrant who lives in Maryland and is the go-to designer for West African print ball gowns and dresses. She designs and hand crafts and sews each design custom-made for her clients and makes a living doing so. So can’t wait to see her take off to the next level.
Anyway, hat tip to my pals Marie Bangura of Millie’s Bites and Kay Savvy for putting me on to Finda.
If I had a say in the matter, I would’ve outfitted Mrs. O to dress in the stunning Finda Creations above, an orange top and skirt wax fabric dress with a blue sash at the waist, above, modeled by the gorgeous Sierra Leonean-American model Sarran Jabbie.
Here are a few other fave Finda Creations of mine:
