Celebrity 2015 Father’s Day Tributes (PHOTOS)

celebrity father's day

Yesterday on Father’s Day, some of the celebrity dads whose wives’ respective pregnancy Bellyitch has covered used the day to share their own photos of themselves on Father’s Day. The late Paul Walker of the Fast and Furious movie franchise fame was also celebrated by his only child, his 16-year old daughter Meadow Walker. Empire star Terrence Howard also shared a tender moment showing off his newest child, son Qirin. We love that name.

Justin Timberlake also used the occasion to gush about his First Father’s Day with his newborn.

Actors Odette and Dave Annable’s Father’s Day baby Gender Reveal

mom and dad day reveal annabale

This couldn’t be better  planned. Dave Annable and his wife Odette Annable, co-stars of the now defunct hit ABC TV show Brothers & Sisters, used Mother’s Day to announce the fact they were expecting their first child together.

And today, on Father’s Day, the duo shared the baby’s gender on social media.

Odette stars in the recently debuted The Astronaut Wives Club.

Dave showed a quick video of the gender reveal beach celebration with the couple’s family and friends on Instagram today.

Before the reveal, which entailed popping a couple of black helium filled balloons filled with either blue or pink confetti, guests to the event signed their name under Team Girl or Team Boy on a chalkboard to indicate their guess of the gender.

Dave, who recently starred in Red Band Society and is filming the upcoming NBC TV show  Heartbreaker, looked genuinely surprised to learn that he will soon welcome a baby GIRL!

“One of the most special moments of our life,” the actor wrote in the caption, adding, “I was so confused for a second. Thought I saw both colors of confetti. Nope. #babyannable.”

annabales reveal

He almost ruined the surprise too, captioning a photo before the reveal: “Almost popped the damn thing getting it out of the car. Try to explain that to a pregnant Cuban.”

Funny! Although born in Los Angeles, Odette’s mom is Cuban and her dad is of Italian and French descent, but was born in Bogotá, Colombia, and raised in Nicaragua. Tres Internationale!

The couple married in 2010!

That’s going to be a gorgeous little girl, for sure!

Congrats!

Happy Father’s Day: 6 Songs/Videos for Dads

Happy Fathers Day 2015
Happy Father’s Day!
Here are 6 songs to consider dedicating to your dad, depending on the situation: Dad who has passed, New Dad, Dad to a daughter, deadbeat dad etc…

First up, the late Luther Vandross‘ “Dance With my Father” for those who have lost a dad or whose dad is resting in peace or in heaven:

Another Fave is Creed‘s “Arm’s Wide Open” to dedicate to a brand new dad who is celebrating his first Father’s Day

Next, a favorite of mine, John Mayer‘s “Daughters” for dads to little girls

Next, a song for the dad who abandoned his kid from his kid: Everclear‘s “Father of Mine

For Dads to sons, a tender song by Elton JohnBetween a Father and Son

Another brilliant father to son song from Phil Collins, titled “Father to son“. How appropriate!

BONUS:  An all-time favorite Stevie Wonder‘s “Isn’t she Lovely”  which he wrote when his daughter Aisha was born. It’s another good one for a dad to a new born daughter.

Last Minute Father’s Day Gift Ideas

Father's Day last minute

Father’s Day is less than 4 days away. Close to 90% of those surveyed in Shopular‘s annual survey about this gift-giving season said they planned to get a get a gift for dad.

The top Gift Picks for Dads that the virtual shopping app discovered: Clothes were the top gift pick (at 31%), followed by Electronics (24%), Tools (22%), Sporting Equipment (10%), Books/Music (5%), and Home Accessories (5%). Sadly, the proverbial “Tie” has lost serious ground – being favored by less than 3% of consumers as a popular gift item for Dad.

If you are one of those last minute shoppers still scrambling for a gift, no worries. We’ve got some tips and suggestions.

1. Amazon.com is offering free one day delivery for Prime customers and some others. Two day delivery is still available too. If you’re going to go that route, for $99 you can get the Invicta Men’s 6977 Pro Diver Collection Chronograph Black Dial Black Polyurethane Watch. Dad can wear it to sporting events, at outings and even while swimming!

2. If you want to go the Do-it-yourself route, get the kids to bake up some of dad’s favorite cookies, brownies or other pastry and package it in a tin can you pick up from the dollar store.

3. Has Dad been meaning to drop a few pounds and has had his eye on one of those multiple DVD short course programs, but didn’t want to shell out the cost? Consider Shaun T’s INSANITY MAX:30 Base Kit – DVD Workout . It’s $99. My husband and I have done a couple rounds of the original Insanity and had amazing results. We got toned and lost wait. This kit can be delivered before Father’s Day if you order today or tomorrow.

4. Another Do-It-Yourself idea is a homemade card. There are plenty of ideas of how to make and eye-catching card in no time flat in Pinterest.

5. If dad loves and lives in his man cave,  Apple TV Streaming Media Player Bundle is a good bet for $89.

6. Cologne usually goes over well. My fave scent is Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male which offers a  3 Piece Gift Set for Men you can get from Amazon.com in one to two days and just in time for Sunday.

7. For that Sports Dad, get him digital tickets to his favorite match or game, use First Hand Tickets and search a wide array of events and get a good price.

8. These days, because of the camera function on smart phones, people rarely use real cameras. But they don’t have as much functionality and clarity in printed images as digital cameras. Activeon has a new high action sleek new easy-to-use, long battery live, built-in LCD digital camera, CX. It retails for about $99.

9. Dad’s old shaver has seen better days and he may have been putting off getting a new one. Why not surprise him with a replacement of his old one?  If you can’t find it in stores or online, he can try our fave, the Braun 3Series 380S-4 Wet and Dry Shaver which is perfect for after the shower or in-between while going from day to night. It’s just $69.

10. If you’re on a budget and want to keep it low cost, pick up a basket from the dollar store, ribbons, some of his favorite candy bars, wine, socks, his favorite barbecue sauce, or whatever dad likes and arrange a homemade gift basket. Commercial baskets don’t always include all of dad’s faves so doing it yourself solves that problem.

11. Tools are also a good bet. We recommend Stanley 94-248 65-Piece Homeowner’s Tool Kit which is $49.50 and can be shipped and delivered in time for Father’s Day.

12. Get crafty and get some card stock and print out some DIY Coupons for services like mowing the law, a free day out, washing his car, for packed lunches for a week, a special dinner of his favorite dishes, getting to sleep in, or taken on a family outing or adventure like hiking or the beach.

These are some ideas to start you off. Good Luck!

Single or Divorced Moms Guide to Coping through Father’s Day

Father’s Day for children of an absentee dad or who are products of divorce can be hard. Whether by reason of divorce, death or abandonment, the day can be challenging also for single moms. Women who are solo parents by choice also must deal with the stresses of filling both Mom and Dad’s shoes and that includes surviving Father’s Day.

HuffPost Divorce single parent expert Kerri Zane offered some salient advice in a 2013 post.  An excerpt:

1. Realize the day may be difficult for your kids. For single moms dealing with a divorce situation, a day honoring the one you least like in your life, at the moment, can seem unfathomable. This is the time to step into your children’s shoes. As tough as that pill is to swallow, you have to embrace the fact that they love you and they love him, too. It is an important day for you to allow them to celebrate their father without feeling any remorse or fear that they might be hurting your feelings.

2. Don’t pass judgment. Keep an upbeat attitude about your former husband. Your kids still respect him and want to please him. It is in your best interest to always be level-headed around your children and keep your unfiltered ex thoughts to yourself. On Father’s Day in particular you might even want to step up and share one of the reasons you fell in love with their dad in the first place. Extra brownie points for that!

3. Relax into the day. For divorced mommies an extra Sunday all to yourself can be a blessing. Try not to dwell on what the day used to be when you were one big “happy” family. Instead shift your focus and make it a day of cherished me-time. Do something for yourself that you wouldn’t normally do. Spend the day at the spa, get a massage, take an extra long walk, go to the beach and take a cheeky novel or lounge by a pool. Hang out with your other single mom girlfriends, drink mimosas and have a TGIEF=Thank God It’s Ex-Father’s Day.

4. Honor the dad that once was. If Dad’s no longer around because he’s passed on, allow your children to choose how they want to honor him. They can spend the day creating a card, writing a poem, reminiscing with scrapbooks or doing an activity they always used to do with him. It can be particularly challenging because it opens wounds for the passing of your loved one too, so go easy on yourself. If you feel like being sad, it’s okay. It’s real and heartfelt. Share your fondest memories and tell the stories in great detail, they’ll love hearing about him from your loving perspective.

Sage advice indeed. Read more form the original post in HuffPost Divorce HERE

Eco-Friday: Father’s Day grilling guide for vegetarians!

Father son and grandson at the grill
Most people are looking forward to grilling for the 4th of July holidays, but how about starting a bit early and turning the tables on the grill master and grilling for dad on Father’s Day?To be greener, ditch the wood and go for propane or natural gas for the grill which are more cleaner and efficient. Pick up some hot dogs and burgers and consider organic and grass-fed beef, which is not only better for the planet, but more nutrient-rich and lower in saturated fat

Grab some multi-grain buns which are healthier and better for you and dad.

Pick up some ketchup, chips, veggies and head outdoors.

Since meat production is tough on the environment, going meatless reduces your carbon footprint and is a more healthier option.

For dads and relatives that are vegans and vegetarians, our friends at Veggie Patch want you to pick up some of these goodies:

Good Grillin’ – Veggie Patch’s Ultimate Meatless Burger is the better-for-you burger that contains 2/3 less fat than ground beef burgers.  Toss on the grill, top with Tribe’s Classic Hummus and serve on a whole wheat bun.

The Perfect Platter – Serve something simple such as fresh veggies and Tribe’s Roasted Red Pepper Hummus. This easy-to-prepare platter will have your guests asking for more.

Veggie Patch Veggie Dogs are a good source of protein and contain zero grams of trans fat. Serve them spicy with honey mustard, ketchup and a bit of heat from chopped jalapenos.

Kids’ Table Classics – Veggie Patch Broccoli Bites with Cheese are made with real vegetables, perfect for the little ones!

Celebrate Dad this Sunday, Have Fun and Enjoy!
