I was surfing the web the other day and came upon this article with a slide show that declared 20 items of clothing that women in midlife should not wear.
Since at my age, I am decidedly middle aged I clicked the link thinking I’d see stuff like Mickey Mouse ears, mini back packs that Harajuku girls wear and other very child-like things. Nope! There were quite a few items on the list that I actually wear and think I look good in them. I feel good in them and think they are age appropriate the way I put them together.
I counted and on that list of 20 that included overalls, stilettos, and sill socks, all items that in my opinion could be rocked by a middle aged woman. Here are 8 items from that list of 12 items I wear from that roster of 20 things I’m not supposed to wear at my age.
Mini skirts. If you are in your late 30s and early 40s, you most certainly can wear a mini skirt! Pair it with a nice feminine blouse like I did in this photo above I shared on Instagram.
Yoga pants – I mean what else are women in their 40s supposed to wear to work out if they cannot wear spandex or yoga pants. The person who put the list together is either out of shape or a man. Photo Source.
Layered Jewelry– Statement jewelry, even when worn simultaneously can make an ordinary outfit stand out and are conversation starters. I’m never afraid of wearing a many bracelets, rings and more. I’ve worn them here and here and here and here.
Leopard print or Fatigues – There is nothing wrong with prints so long as they flatter your body and shape.
Cleavage – Why not? Are women in their 40s and 50s not allow to exhibit sex appeal?
Big Bag – Large totes are great for carrying all your stuff and who has more stuff than mature women. I rock my big bags and I am a big fan of totes!
