Tragic news for TV host and model Chrissy Teigen and her husband singer John Legend who lost their third child after Teigen suffered pregnancy complications.
The couple shared the news on their respective social media accounts.
“We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before,” the couple said in a formal statement posted to each of their Twitter pages.
Teigen was taken to Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Sunday after revealing that she had been on bed rest and bleeding for “a little less than a month.”
Sadly, it appears the bleeding might have been signs of the baby in stress.
“We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions,” the post said. “It just wasn’t enough.”
On Teigen’s Instagram account on Wednesday night, she shared that she and her husband had decided to call the baby Jack.
With the first two pregnancies, the statements said the couple waited to name the baby until after delivering, but this time they had already begun calling “the little guy in my belly” Jack.
“He will always be Jack to us,” the statement said. “Jack worked so hard to be a part of our little family, and he will be, forever.”
The celebrity couple are parents to 4-year old daughter Luna and 2-year old son Miles, both conceived via in vitro fertilization.
Teigen was recently quoted stating that she felt the IVF pregnancies were “untouchable and safe” but that her third pregnancy conceived without medical intervention felt fragile or “eggshelly” as she described it.
The family seems determined to grieve but grow stronger because of undergoing this ordeal.
“But everyday can’t be full of sunshine,” they said. “On this darkest of days, we will grieve, we will cry our eyes out. But we will hug and love each other harder and get through it.”
