A Breastfeeding Emoji is Among This Year’s New Emojis

7952622-3x2-940x627

Last April, Hello Giggles had a playful post about emojis we wish existed which included a breastfeeding emoji and it looks like the folks at the Unicode Consortium — the governing body of all things emoji — listened.

The body released a new set of of pictographs and including among a new breastfeeding emoji for all skin tones, a woman wearing a hijab, and hopping on the beard trend is a man with a beard, New York Post reports.

The Emoji 5.0 also includes some new emotions such as a vomiting face, a cursing face, a face blowing its top off, a face with stars for eyes, and a face with a monocle.

And there is the odd. Not certain when the occasion will arise to use the  steamy room emoji or curling stone emoji but, okay. Sure, add it in. The rock climbing culture is big so that makes sense emoji.

Enjoy peeps and moms-to-be and nursing moms!

Report: Kate Middleton is Expecting Her Third Child

KAte middleon

We usually don’t like to step on pregnancy announcements before formally made (yeah right!? ?), but gossip sites are claiming that Kate Middleton (Duchess Catherine of Cambridge) is expecting her third child.

Star magazine reports that during afternoon tea, George went up to his great grandmother, the Queen and told her he had a secret. The room went silent and then he spilled the beans.

From Hollywood Life which reminds us that Kate has said she wants 5 kids by age 40:

“It ended up being incredibly sweet. George approached his great-grandmother and exclaimed that he had a secret to share. The room went quiet when he said that ‘mummy has a new bubby in her tummy!’” The queen allegedly called for a champagne toast immediately. “She was delightedly hugging Kate, who was beaming from ear to ear,” the source added.

And apparently, the queen’s cheery spirits totally got William off the hook about his rowdy ski trip last week. “William knew that as soon as he returned to England he’d be in for a serious scolding,” Star’s insider said. “He was on his way back and getting ready to face the music, but it’s no surprise that all was forgiven and forgotten following George’s absolutely adorable announcement.”

For those who need a refresher, the king-in-waiting shook his princely responsibilities on March 13 to go skiing in Verbier. The prince was with his friends and dancing with a blonde instead of attending Commonwealth Day services with his family. But while some reports have said Kate was “humiliated” by her husband’s behavior, Star claims it was HER idea for William to have a boys’ trip.

“It was actually Kate who insisted he go on one last boys’ vacation before focusing on the new baby,” a source for the magazine said. “It’s just a shame it looked like he was having too much fun and absconding from his duties. Who could have known he may have simply been celebrating his wife’s third pregnancy?”

The couple reportedly do not know the sex of their alleged unborn child yet, but they apparently couldn’t care less either way — they just want it to be healthy. “Kate is in fine form right now,” the insider added. “She’s full of energy and hasn’t stopped…William is ecstatic.”

So Someone Really Did a Study that Says Pregnant Women Eat Junk

pregnant-woman-898585_1280

Most women have poor diets around the time of conception that may increase the risk of pregnancy complications like excessive weight gain, high blood pressure, impaired fetal growth and preterm deliveries, a U.S. study suggests.

During the three months around conception, the study found that women got roughly one-third of their energy from so-called empty calories like alcohol and foods loaded with sugars and fats. Their top sources of energy were soda, pasta, cookies, cake, bread, beer, wine and spirits.

“In particular, the fact that soda was the primary source of calories was concerning,” said lead study author Lisa Bodnar, a public health researcher at the University of Pittsburgh.

“Soda provides essentially no nutrition,” Bodnar said by email. “But it is something that can be replaced with water or other non-caloric beverages to eliminate those extra calories that may be contributing to obesity.”

For the study, researchers examined data from dietary questionnaires completed by 7,511 women when they were 6 to 14 weeks pregnant. Participants were asked to recall what they ate during the three months around conception, then researchers scored women’s diets with up to 100 points for following every aspect of healthy diet guidelines.

Overall, the average score was just 63 points, researchers report in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Viral: This Baby Looks Just Like Ed Sheeran

img_3602

This originally appeared in E!

Ed Sheeran has a look-alike…in the shape of a 2-year-old girl.

Photos of a British girl went viral Tuesday because of how much she looks exactly like the “Shape of You” crooner. The little girl’s name is Isla, and her mom Zoe Walton opened up to E! News exclusively about her

daughter’s sudden Internet fame.

“I can’t believe how viral it has gone,” Walton told E! News.

Walton and her family live in Exeter, Devon, England, and while they don’t expect to hear from Sheeran himself, she did tell E! News that he would “hopefully one day” reach out to meet his baby doppelganger. Isla turns three in May, which could make for an amazing birthday surprise!

Sheeran kicks off his North American tour to support his latest album, Divide, on June 29 in Kansas City, Mo., and it wraps Oct. 6 at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. Although he doesn’t leave for a couple of months, the 26-year-old singer hasn’t been taking it easy. Sheeran has been promoting Divide, traveling around the world to perform, interview and pose for magazine photo shoots. But he doesn’t mind because he knows 2017 is his year.

“I think this year is going to be the high point. I have a feeling about it,” Sheeran told BBC News. “Seventeen is my lucky number, and everyone I was scared of releasing of albums around me released them all last year—people like Beyoncé and The Weeknd and Bruno Mars.”He continued, “Taylor [Swift] isn’t going to be releasing until probably the end of this year—Christmas is the smartest time to release because that’s when everyone buys records, so I’ve got a full year of just all Ed, all the time.”

And now there are two Eds to go around—the real Ed and Isla!

Quit Feeding Your Child Pizza, ‘Kid Foods’ and Juice Pouches with this 6 Steps

kid-635811_1280

According to the National Institutes of Health, on any given day one-third of children and 41 percent of teens eat from a fast-food restaurant. They also report that the restaurant meals often served to kids contain too many calories. The typical “kid food” being offered tends to usually include chicken nuggets, fries, macaroni and cheese, burgers, and pizza. The problem is that these meals often provide empty calories and don’t provide enough nutrition. They also keep the kids wanting the same types of foods at home, with parents often providing them. One expert, Doctor Yum, says it’s time to ditch the “kid food” and start giving kids better options.

“Most food is kid-friendly. Kids just need to learn how to eat it,” says Dr. Nimali Fernando, a Fredericksburg, Virginia-based pediatrician who founded The Doctor Yum Project. “Kids who are taught healthy eating habits, which include eating a variety of healthy foods, will be far better off now and in the long run. They will be learning healthy habits that will last a lifetime.”

Here are 6 reasons to ditch the pizza and pouches and get your kids back to real food:

  • Kids can learn to eat real food. Most of us parents overestimate the amount of food children need. Therefore when a toddler takes two bites of their entree, parents may feel defeated instead of realizing they may have eaten enough. Parents then may be more likely to reach for those kid-friendly, addictive snacks (like crackers and gummy snacks) to fill their child’s belly.  It should be no surprise that grazing-style eating, where hunger does not fully develop, leads to a poor appetite at mealtime. Parents should continue to provide opportunities to practice eating healthy foods, and have realistic expectations for what their child should eat. With enough practice kids will get used to a healthy array of fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Check with your pediatrician to see if your child is meeting expectations for growth to ensure his food intake is on track.
  • Restaurant kids meals are a waste of money. When eating out, say no to kid’s meals, which are usually variations on the same “kid-friendly” foods like pizza, chicken nuggets, and sweet drinks. Most of these menus have little to no vegetables or fruit. They may be belly fillers and provide calories but little added nutritional value for your dollar. Instead, order a healthy similarly priced appetizer and/or share your entree with your little one (restaurant meals are so oversized that chances are good that the serving is too big for you anyway). Alternatively, order a few entrees “family style” and ask the server to bring extra plates for whole family to sample. This encourages kids to be adventurous and get used to trying new foods.
  • Kid-friendly foods are misleading.  Recent studies of toddler foods show that many actually have more sugar and salt than what is recommended by experts. Food companies know that parents worry about nutrition, and know the buzzwords to attract those worried parents. It’s easy to make food choices based on the promise of “more protein” or “high in calcium.”  But reading the nutrition label (on the back of the box, not the front) will give you the big picture on whether a food is right for your child. Is there an abundance of additives and preservatives? Are the ingredients recognizable and safe? How much sugar is added? Think about the whole foods that might be used to get the same benefit (like a handful of nuts for protein instead of a protein bar).
  • Kids need real food to develop and thrive. While pizza and macaroni and cheese may fill a child’s belly, kids need fruits, vegetables and whole grains to provide the necessary, vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients (plant nutrients) for optimal growth and development.  Furthermore, an important part of a child’s development is their oral motor skills, those functions of the mouth (lips, tongue, teeth and palate) that allow for speech, safe feeding and swallowing. Many kid-friendly foods are soft and easy to eat and don’t encourage development of those skills. Relying too heavily on these foods (like soft chicken nuggets and pouches with soft purées) can allow kids to lag behind in oral motor development and may lead to picky eating.
  • You don’t have time to be a short order cook. Making two or three meals to satisfy everyone’s preferences is exhausting and can lead to cooking burnout. Teach kids to eat what you are eating to save time and money and to encourage the spirit of adventurous eating. This can be done from the earliest bites of solid food. Instead of relying on store-bought baby food exclusively, find ways to make your meals into healthy baby food. Check out the Doctor Yum Project’s kid-tested, pediatrician approved recipes on doctoryum.org. Many of them have a “baby food shortcut” which shows families how to adapt a family meal and make a meal for a baby along the way. Eating in this way from a young age can avoid that picky eater trap and lead to a path to adventurous eating for a lifetime.
  • Nutrition shouldn’t be hidden, so stop hiding the veggies.  Kids that are very hesitant eaters may be benefit from a few hidden vegetables as they gain confidence in food, but in general parents should try to help kids learn to love healthy foods without hiding them. While hidden veggies may help nutritionally, the kids may not gain an understanding that vegetables can be delicious, so they may still try to avoid them when they are visible. Get kids loving their veggies by leading by example, preparing them together, growing a garden, and visiting a farmers market where they can pick out a couple of things to try. The more variety they are exposed to and realize that they enjoy, the better the eating habits will be.

“If kids can get involved in the food process, from shopping to preparing it, and they can learn about why eating healthy is so important to them, they are more likely to do so,” adds Heidi DiEugenio, a director at the Doctor Yum Project. “This will help them avoid the obesity problems, chronic health issues, and they will have a better opportunity to live a healthier life throughout their adulthood.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, healthy eating habits can help children maintain a healthy weight, as well as reduce their risks of such conditions as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, iron deficiency, dental cavities, osteoporosis, and high blood pressure. An unhealthy diet, on the other hand, can lead to being overweight or obese, increase risks for certain types of cancer, and negatively affect overall health, cognitive development, and a child’s school performance.

The Viral Twins All-Night Party Boys Do A Media Appearance

twins-climb-out-cribs-have-dance-party-instead-of-going-to-bed-ny-daily-news-1d

The twin toddlers who took the Internet by storm when a video of their all night party went viral went on a Media Tour. Their parents use a Nest security camera to monitor the kids room and the dad posted on his Facebook Page footage of his 2-year old sons, Andrew and Ryan, being mischievous one night instead of sleeping. The video has gone viral.

In the video, one boy climbs out of his crib and the other quickly follows. The scheming toddlers then grab several pillows and start piling them together on the floor.

The twins are also seen running around their room, kicking their feet up on a couch and doing a little shimmy in their crib.

The boys and their parents Jonathan and Susana Balkin went on TODAY this week after their video was seen more than $1M times.

Balkin told “Today” that he and his wife knew the twins were up to something because of all the giggling coming from the room.

“We ended up spying on them for a little while on camera just to make sure they weren’t getting into trouble,” he said. “Then after a while we decided, OK, it’s time to intervene and put them to bed. That didn’t really work out so well.”

It is reminiscent of another recent viral video with twin boys where one saved the other from a toppling dresser. Skeptics thought it was staged just like some thought the Balkin video was really publicity for the Nest Home Security system used to capture the video. The dad in the dresser video works for a security company that sells another nanny cam.

‘The Real’s Loni Love Opens Up About The Miscarriage That Turned Her Off From Having Kids

loni-love-the-real-759x438

On Tuesday, March 21st episode of the daytime panel talk show The Real co-host Loni Love opened up about previously suffering a miscarriage and being quite emotionally scarred form the experience.

During a segment on the show, Love says the entire ordeal convinced her to never have children (or even attempt) because  she never wanted to experience that feeling again.

“I finally went to the doctor and I was pregnant,” she opens up. “And Imma tell you something, your body goes through so much. And then at that time I started processing ‘cause then I had to start saving for the baby. I had to start doing all this… And I was like, ‘Oh my goodness, what am I going to do?’ Right? And then it was like the dude that I was with, he was excited, but I was still like really really nervous. But then, eventually you know that nature takes over, you like, ‘You know what, there’s nothing I can do. I’m just gonna have to have this baby and I’m just going to deal with it.’ And sure enough as soon as I was like okay with it, about eight weeks, I miscarried.”

It appears from the audible gasp, and shocked reaction of her co-hosts Jeannie Mai, Tamera Mowry-Housley and Adrienne Bailon, that they were clueless. Love later exclaims that’s the real reason she doesn’t have children.

Sesame Street’s First Autistic Muppet is Almost Here

img_3530

Sesame Street is about to get its first muppet with Autism is about to make her debut.

Four-year old Julia was actually announced in 2015 for the online initiative, but now she will be on the regular television show, beginning this April.

A 25-year veteran writer of the show, Christine Ferraro, told 60 MinutesLesley Stahl that the show decided to introduce an autistic character in light of the uptick in autism cases in the past 10 years. They wanted to empower children of all abilities on how to interact with their Autistic friends, playground- and classmates.

“So that when they encounter them in their real life it’s familiar,” Ferraro told Stahl at the time. “And they see that these — these can be their friends too.”

On the show, Julia is introduced as staying quiet when the other kids introduce themselves to each other.

Julia’s puppeteer Stacey Gordon has a son with autism and was also introduced by Stahl, telling her the fact that an autistic character is being included on the show is “huge.”

“It means that our kids are important enough to be seen in society,” she told 60 Minutes. “Having Julia on the show and seeing all of the characters treat her with compassion.”

Gordon also said she hoped other kids will  better understand autistic children because of the show.

“Had my son’s friends been exposed to his behaviors through something that they had seen on TV before they experienced them in the classroom, they might not have been frightened,” she said. “They might not have been worried when he cried. They would have known that he plays in a different way and that that’s okay.”

She added: “It’s important for kids without autism to see what autism can look like.”
