Nun in Italy gives birth to baby boy she didn’t know she was carrying

This week, a nun in Italy gave birth to a baby boy, though the El Salvadoran woman told the doctors at the hospital that she had no idea she was pregnant.
The nun lives in the small city of Rieti and complained to fellow nuns at the convent where she lives that she was having stomach pains this Wednesday, January 15. An ambulance came to pick her up to take her to the hospital where she gave birth a short time later.
“I did not know I was pregnant,” the Ansa news agency quoted  the nun as saying. “I only felt a stomach pain.”
Rieti’s mayor Simone Petrangeli  asked the public and media to respect the woman’s privacy.
Local pastor Don Fabrizio Borrello told journalists that the nun planned to take care of the baby, who she has named Francis after the current Pope.
Well, we know there’s got to be more to this story. Was the 31-year old woman pregnant before she joined the convent? If not, someone’s got some explaining to do as nuns are supposed to follow a vow of chastity.
Or is this another case of Immaculate Conception? The movie Agnes of God also comes to mind. Sorry God. 🙁

Critics’ Choice Awards Red Carpet with Celeb Mamas

Gossip Girl narrator and Veronica Mars star Kristen Bell looked AMAZING in a black halter Pamella Roland gown.
Celeb moms we’ve “bumpwatched” in the past and others rocked shades of red and black last night at the Critics’ Choice Awards at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, Thursday, January 15. We noted another trend was that they went with smaller and/or lesser known designers, generally. Kudos!
Go mamas!
We are loving Sandra Bullock‘s ruffled magenta Lanvin dress thought not with flat hair. More volume needed.
Matthew McConaughey walked away with the Best Actor award & appeared with wife model Camila Alves in a crimson Paule Ka dress.

Breast Cancer survivor and Anchorman2 actress Christina Applegate went with a  Notte by Marchesa. meh.

Julia Roberts rocked shades while looking cool & chic in her Juan Carlos Obando dress.

Wowza! is all we can say about the Old Hollywood glam American Hustle  actress Elisabeth Rohm  is giving us in this Carmen Marc Valvo floor length fitted open knit dress.

Eco-Friday: 17 OTHER uses for Breastmilk

Aaaah nourishing breast milk.  Great for giving a newborn nutritious nutrients and passing on critical antibodies crucial for their healthy growth.
But did you know that breastmilk is great for solving eye irritations for any person, not just the baby?
Did you also know that hospitals use donated breastmilk to soothe the scars of burn unit victims?
Yup! It’s that miraculous source from the heavens that keeps on giving. Who knew you could recycle breastmilk?
Researchers reveal that there are lots and lots of uses for breast milk that many people probably were clueless about, Check out some other uses:
1. Pink eye breast milk (eye infections). You can put a few drops of breast milk into baby’s eyes or any family members who are suffering from pink eye. The breast milk will keep the area clean and will initiate healing. You can do this as often as possible.
2. Eye puffiness or redness. Wonderful for removing puffiness and is used just as you would cows milk for the same purpose. Dab on with some cotton wool.
3. Opening a stuffy nose. Breast milk is natural and a great alternative to medications which might even make the situation worse. Just squirt a few drops into baby’s nose while he is lying down, then use a bulb to suction the excess out from his nose.
4. Sore throats and mouth sores. Swirling some of the breast milk around in the mouth and even gargling with it can help. Even a breastfed baby can be given some breast milk in a cup to rinse out the mouth.
5. Eczema and other skin rashes. Breast milk will keep the skin clean and will prevent flare ups. Just apply a layer of breast milk to the area and allow to air dry.
6. Dry skin. Using breast milk as a moisturizer.
7. Cradle cap. Just apply to baby’s scalp a few times per day.
8. Breast milk diaper rash. Using breast milk to treat and prevent normal nappy rash.
9. Breast milk ear infections. Squirt a few drops inside the ear for healing and some pain relief. (can be used for infants and grown-ups)
10. Insect bites. Rub a small amount on the bite to relieve the itching and promote the healing process.
11. Chicken pox. Apply the breast milk on the skin to relieve itching just as you would any other ointment.
12. Warts. Apply daily on the wart until it dries up and falls off.
13. Treating sore nipples. Putting some breast milk on your nipples can often heal them faster than any over the counter nipple cream. It can also prevent cracking by keeping them supple.
14. Immune boost. Older children can be given a glass of breast milk or more everyday to boost their immune systems and keep them from becoming ill.
15. Ease cold/flu symptoms. Get over your cold quicker with some liquid gold breast milk. Drink as much as you can.
16. Make-up remover. Breast milk can naturally and easily remove eye make-up.
17. Skin cleanser. Breast milk will gently cleanse your skin and can prevent acne because of its antibacterial properties.

BumpWatch: Dominique Dawes promotes Kaiser Permanente’s Prenatal Care campaign (VIDEO)

In September, retired US Gymnastics and Olympic medalist, Dominique Dawes gave her followers a clue into the fact that she was pregnant when she tweeted herself filming a video for Kaiser Permanente.

Not everyone got it and only one of her followers responded to the image with a “hmmm.”

Dawes, who is the only modern American gymnast to compete and medal in three Olympic games (1992, 1996, 2000), has been the health organization’s Health Advocate and official spokeswoman for several years now, but when she began to show, she started to help promote its prenatal care program among patients and in communities.
Twitter
But in that September photo, she was much smaller than when she first openly shared news of her first pregnancy this past December in a photo (below) which also shows the petite Maryland-native wearing a wedding and engagement ring.
The motivational speaker is quite secretive about her private life so no one had a clue she was even married, let alone expecting!
Dawes, who was a member of the  US Gymnastics Olympic Overall Gold medalist team at the Atlanta 1996 games, posted a video from the campaign on her Twitter account recently.
“Prenatal health is the first step to being a good mom!”  the alumnus of University of Maryland (my alma mater)  wrote.

Study: Taking antidepressants during pregnancy risks baby’s lungs

Taking certain antidepressants in late pregnancy more than doubles the odds of a lung complication in newborns, a new review says.
Fortunately, the study also found that the absolute risk of the complication — known as persistent pulmonary hypertension — was still low, affecting about 3.5 out of every 1,000 births, according to study author Dr. Sophie Grigoriadis.
“Women taking these medications in pregnancy should not panic. The risk is still quite low. It should be one of the factors you consider when you decide to use medications, but it has to be balanced with the potential problems that can occur if you don’t treat depression,” said Grigoriadis, head of the Women’s Mood and Anxiety Clinic: Reproductive Transitions at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center, in Toronto.
Deciding how to treat depression during pregnancy can be difficult, the study noted. The benefits of antidepressants have to be weighed against potential harms, and compared to the potential risks of untreated depression.
Untreated depression in a pregnant woman can lead to unhealthy eating habits, poor weight gain, high blood pressure, inadequate prenatal care and possible drug and alcohol abuse, according to the March of Dimes.

Top 10 Things you should NOT say to a woman after revealing the name she’s picked for her baby

No matter what names you and/or your partner have narrowed down to possibly name your child, at some point you will inevitably be greeted with a frown, shriveled brow, upturn lip and nose possibly followed by the following words: “you’re going to name him/her that?”
Save yourself the heartache, stress and need to “read” someone the riot act about how you don’t care if s/he like the name you’ve chosen because after all it is YOUR CHILD and not theirs…DON’T EVEN BOTHER SHARING IT.
If someone considers it rude that you politely say, “we’ve narrowed it down, but have decided not to share until we make up our mind.”
Once the baby is here and you announce his/her name, at that point it is too late for the Peanut Gallery to offer any unsolicited advice.
Most people are ashamed to utter the words, “You should’ve called him/her ______” because at that point the interloper should just be mesmerized by a beautiful bundle of joy snuggled in your arms and not be concerned with whether the baby will be teased for his/her name, if the initials are all wrong, or that it doesn’t look good on a resume and the child won’t get a job.

Good people of the world, we know your intentions are good, but a simple smile and nod is more than an adequate response even if you don’t like the name. But of course if you do, please speak up and say so!

Cheers!
And alas, Here are the TOP 10 Things NOT TO SAY TO SOMEONE AFTER S/HE TELLS YOU WHAT S/HE PLANS TO NAME HER UNBORN CHILD:
10. You’re going to name him that? This passive aggressive retort is just plain rude.
9. Why didn’t you select a name that means something? You mean the fact that I took my time to come up with the name isn’t meaningful enough?
8. You know she’s not going to get a job if an employer sees that name on a resume? I guess that is the risk s/he’s going to have to take 15 years from now. Who knows maybe people will realize that bizarre names like oh..Obama and Oprah and Barack can do a decent job. I was at an event yesterday and this woman named “Singleton” was getting an award for being the best executive VP in some company. Now if a woman with that name can get somewhere…I say employers are starting to look past the uncommon names. Ha. I jest.
7. You should’ve named him after your mom/dad? Um I don’t think people are naming their kids Agnes, Merle, Herbert and Dottie any more, but thanks for your suggestion
6. Did you consider a Biblical Name? One shouldn’t assume that the parents would feel comfortable picking a name after the bible if they don’t even go to church regularly, or are oh I don’t know…Buddhists!
5. You want her to be Teased at school naming her that? Why do we assume the worst in children? We use our adult brains to find the meanest taunt that the nastiest child could use hypothetically use to tease another child, failing to realize children are not as mean as we remember and there are loads more different names floating around schools these days than before. Children may just be used to the “off the beaten path” names being heard on the play grounds.
4. Those initials when strung together spell ____. Good thing these days, most people don’t really do monogrammed towels or cuff links for our children for that to be a problem. I don’t recall how many occasions people are judged by what the initials of their names spell out.
3. How do your parents feel about that name? Again, since this is not THEIR child, people don’t really take that much stock in whether their parents approve or not, unless there are some deep rooted, unearthed approval issues and at that point, do you really want to trigger those skeletons?
2. How long did it take to come up with that? Why ask? Was it a competition? Do people get a prize for taking months to whittle down a name. I really don’t get that question at all.
1. Boy is that an Ugly name. No explanation needed.

Run’s House’ Vanessa Simmons Instagrams Belly photo

Instagram
Actress and reality TV star Vanessa Simmons  shared a photo of herself and her blossoming belly to her Instagram fans recently.
“First lunch meeting of 2013,” the MTV star from Run’s House  and Daddy’s Girls captioned the photo.
Simmons’ dad is Hip Hop legend Rev Run and uncle is business mogul Russell Simmons. She announced in September 2013 that she and  boyfriend Mike Wayans, son of veteran TV actor Damon Wayans are expecting their first child together.
She’d been MIA for months due to extreme morning sickness. She told Essence.com that cherry-flavored Slurpees are her weakness.
“Every time my mom calls me she asks, ‘Where’s Mike?’ and I’m like, ‘He’s at 7-Eleven,” she confessed.
Simmons also noted that she’s not rushing down the aisle just yet.
“I don’t want to be a pregnant bride,” she told the site. “I wanna have a beautiful wedding, hopefully a destination wedding where I can show off my figure in a beautiful long flowing dress.”
