Kristen Bell and bump featured in Samsung commercial w/husband Dax Shepard

Veronica Mars’ Kristen Bell and her husband Parenthood‘s Dax Shepard are super adorable in the new Samsung commercial about the Holidays.  The long spot features Bell’s baby bump prominently as the couple are expecting their second child shortly. They welcomed daughter Lincoln last March 2013.
In the commercial, Shepard makes runs to get foods to satisfy Bell’s cravings, and seemingly seems unhelpful in helping her pick the choice of cute maternity looks. Bell summed it up in her tweet presenting the commercial calling it what life is like in the Bell/Shepard household, the Daily Mail noted. Funny!
Check out a few stills and the commercial below!

Study: Why pregnant women shouldn’t microwave food in plastics and should avoid dryer sheets

A recent study found that women who were exposed to two common chemicals in their home at a high level while pregnant had children with lower IQ scores.
In the first of its kind study, researchers found that children exposed during pregnancy to elevated levels of the chemicals  di-n-butyl phthalate and di-isobutyl phthalate  had more than 6-points lower on their IQ score than children who had lower levels of exposure, researchers found.
The difference in percentage points in IQ is a big deal.
“A six- or seven-point decline in IQ may have substantial consequences for academic achievement and occupational potential,” senior author Robin Whyatt, DrPH, Professor of Environmental Health Sciences and deputy director of the Columbia Center for Children’s Environmental Health at the Mailman School said of the study published in the journal PLOS ONE

And the thing is: there is no effort by the government to warn pregnant women, generally, of the impact of phthalates.

“While there has been some regulation to ban phthalates from toys of young children,” lead author Pam Factor-Litvak, PhD, associate professor of Epidemiology at the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University in New York.”There is no legislation governing exposure during pregnancy, which is likely the most sensitive period for brain development. Indeed, phthalates are not required to be on product labeling.”
Even though phthalates are hard to avoid, researchers recommend women limit their exposure to them by not microwaving food in plastics, avoiding scented products as much as possible, including air fresheners, and dryer sheets, and not using recyclable plastics labeled as 3, 6, or 7.
The study was conducted on 328 low-income New York city women and their children.

Jewish families integrate Christmas with Hannukah trees

Are you surprised that more and more Jewish families are adopting and putting up Hannukah bushes and trees, and even Menorah trees in their homes?

With Christmas being such a major celebrated holiday and season in the United States, many parents of Jewish children have found a way to meld the festivities with their own religious beliefs and culture.

More and more families are hanging Hannukah stockings, and integrating the traditional festival of lights with the customs of Christmas.

Miami Herald
A Pew Research survey released last year found that 32% of Jews said they had a Christmas tree in their home the previous year.
It’s common especially in interfaith families among Jews married to non-Jews.  The survey found that 71% said they put up a tree.
My mother is Roman Catholic and my father Muslim and he looked forward to decorating the tree and exchanging presents more than us kids even. Over the years, it could easily be argued that the Christmas season has become secular to a certain extent.
That’s exactly what those who are critical say.  The reason it’s easy for non-Christians to adopt Christmas traditions is because the holiday has become  an excuse to get caught up with the consumerism that has taken over Christmas. It has become less about the birth of Jesus Christ and more about an excuse to go crazy in the mall.
Your thoughts? If you are Jewish, have you or would you consider putting up a Hannukah tree?

Princess Charlene and Prince Albert welcome fraternal twins, Jacques and Gabriella

Congrats to Princess Charlene and her husband Prince Albert of Monaco on the birth of their fraternal twins yesterday evening, December 9.
And because of the way the lineage rules work in the principality, even though the boy, Jacques was born after his sister Gabriella, he will be next in line to the throne.
This is the first child for the former South African Olympic swimmer and the next in line to the heir of the throne who announced the pregnancy this past June
Their son Jaques also skips ahead of his 22-year old half- sister Jazmin Grace Grimaldi and half brother 10-year old Alexandre Coste, who his dad fathered from prior relationships with a Californian woman and a Togo, West Africa flight attendant, respectively, years before marrying Charlene in 2011.
*There is a Game of Thrones reference in her to “the Snows“*
The monarchy rules also prohibit children from unwed unions from ascending to the throne.
Another interesting tidbit of this story is that the double bundle came into this earth at Princess Grace Hospital, named for their grandmother, the late Hollywood actress Grace Kelly
Normally, there is a 21 gun canon salute after a royal baby is born but this round, Albert ordered 42 for the two newborns.
The babies are the first twins in the royal household, which dates back to the 13th Century.
Nice! Congrats!

2014 Must Have Holiday Survival Items

We’re counting down to Christmas and the Holiday season is upon us!

After work holiday parties, weekend shopping trips, tree decorating, cookie baking, all go on during this hectic time of the year.

We have uncovered some must-have tools busy moms and parents should have and use to get them through the bustling period in the family life.
Great Undergarment – This is the season for dressing up in fancy clothes and entertaining or attending holiday parties. A little while ago, there an Oprah Winfrey show episode on bras got many women realizing how wearing the right undergarment can change up their look in clothes and have them feeling more confident. That’s what I can say, personally, about the Vera Vasi  by Marena shape wear. I have been in the high waist pantastics version and love it! I wear it each week! I also agree with the founders, pioneers in post-opp compression products, that it fits better than other popular compression tights and undergarment. It’s not too constricting, and allow room to breathe. Yet the patented fabric smooths out any lumps and rolls, perfectly. The creators, whose compression garments can be found on The Biggest Loser contestants, state the shapewear retracts the skin and helps heal the separation of the abdominal muscle (diastasis recti). I can vouch for the claim that the shape wear promote great posture and leave you feeling more confident and looking slimmer and smoother.
The material is so top-notched and well constructed that I have even worn it alone as pants a few times. Love it! It’s mid-range priced around $100 but totally worth it when you think about how great you will look in your fab dresses.
After 20 years in the medical post-operative market, Vera Vasi expanded to the retail market and recently expanded to the maternity and post-pregnancy market to help new moms adjust to all their body’s changes.

The Top 10 Most “Googled” Celebrity Kids

Bellyitch Rewind

BuzzFeed has a quiz article out that asks which recently born or currently incubating celebrity baby will “reign supreme” in the future and be the “it” children that will be the most popular and most followed.
When you first see the headline, one may be inclined to roll  one’s eyes and question why we have become a society that obsesses with children of celebrities.
But given that Bellyitch Blog since 2007 has covered and follows celebrity pregnancies, we must say that we have noticed that indeed there are certain celebrity off springs that get more attention than others.
Consider the fact that there are several websites like this and this one dedicated to Suri Cruise‘s fashion. And the offspring of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise is keeping food on people’s table. The author of a satirical website, Suri’s Burn Book, was able to parlay her popular snarky Tumblr blog about the tot to tween into a lucrative book deal.
Before Prince George even turned, he was already the star of  the What Prince George Wore blog.  Many people are also obsessed of how Blue Ivy and North West are wearing their hair and being dressed by their duo famous parents, Beyonce and Jay Z; and Kim Kardashian and Kanye West
Perhaps because their parents are popular, or they get the most paparazzi following them around or simply editors at magazines keep greenlighting articles about them, there are definitely more popular celeb kids.
From our unscientific and independent survey of various articles, stories and Google images that crop up under the subject “celebrity kid”, we’ve noticed that the top 10, who have the most images, include:

1. Suri Cruise (Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise)

2. Blue Ivy  (Beyonce Knowles and Shawn Jay Z Carter)

Harper and Victoria Beckham

3. Prince George (Kate Middleton and Prince William)

4. Nahla Aubry (Halle Berry and Gabriel Aubry)

5. North West (Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West)

6. Kingston Rossdale (Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale)

7. Mason Disick (Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick)

8. Skylar Berman (Rachel Zoe and Rodger Berman)

9. Zahra Jolie-Pitt (Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt)

10. Harper Beckhan (Victoria Beckham and David Beckham)

What do you think? Who are the most popular celeb kids in your book? Do you think we obsess too much over celebrity children.
