Did our April Fools’ Joke spark the current Rihanna pregnancy rumor?

On April Fools’ Day, we posted an article suggesting that pop diva Rihanna was pregnant with her then boyfriend rapper Drake‘s baby. Of course it was a joke and seemingly harmless, but a few days later, mega gossip site Media Take Out published a salacious piece suggesting that the singer was pregnant for real. And as we mentioned Chris Brown  humorously in our post, MTO took it further and suggested Ri Ri visited him in jail and perhaps was still seeing him before he got locked up, and therefore he could be the baby’s father.
Their proof: the fact she drank decaf tea when spotted out with her dad, the fact that she allegedly had given up smoking cigarettes and weed, and that she had supposedly given up alcohol. They pointed at a tiny bump through her shirt, though, as in past wrong reporting, it could have just been the result of a large meal.
Since then, many other sites and television gossip shows have run with MTO’s “scoop” and are reporting  it widely.
As we’ve blogged since 2009, female celebrities are often reported incorrectly as being with child, forcing the women to come out and make a public statement denying it or being photographed in a bikini with washboard abs.  To date, Jennifer Aniston still holds the record as appearing on the most celebrity gossip magazine covers wrongly announcing her pregnancy
It  is highly likely that Rihanna is getting the Aniston treatment. Still, we can’t  help but wonder if our little joke sparked the imagination of writers who used the cloak of an anonymous source to get some page views and hits.  Or did they read the first few lines of the post and didn’t get to the April Fools’ part?
hmmmm…….. Inquiring minds want to know.
The stuff that make gossip bloggers hated so.

A Baby Shower to Remember: Tips for Throwing an unforgettable babyshower

It happens to even the best hosts and hostesses who organize baby showers.
You plan the games that you think will entertain guests. You arrange all the decorating and snacks. Everything seems to be perfect. Then, on the day of the shower, everyone just sits around and stares at each other. It’s possible to think outside of the box when it comes to baby showers.
Here are some suggestions on how to host one that isn’t a dreaded event but a fun time for all.

Theme it up

Themed parties set the tone for a memorable baby shower. The decorations, favors and invitation should follow the theme. You also can ask people to dress up for a little more excitement. Costumes can be excellent conversation starters. Real Simple offers examples of themed baby shower parties such as Bun in the Oven, Bumble of Joy and A Day at the Circus.

Invite the Guys

These days, men are getting more involved in raising their children, and baby showers are no exception. Have a party the guys can get into as well. Many people feel that the shower should be for both parents since both are becoming parents. Also, if the mother has friends who are males who want to participate in the shower, it would not be a problem. Make sure to include everyone by passing out gender-neutral party favors such as candles that aren’t traditional blue or pink, or edible treats that everyone will enjoy. Sites like partypail.com offer baby shower favors to fit any theme.

Create a Photo Booth

Constructing a photo booth can be as simple as hanging a background on the wall. Ask someone with relatively decent photography skills to bring a camera and tripod. Don’t forget about props. You could have some traditional props such as a mustache, kissing lips and glasses. You also could get creative with the pregnancy theme and include a pacifier, adult diapers and bibs. Make sure to bring an oversized picture frame and take a couples’ picture of the parents so they can cherish the photo for years to come.

Host the Party Outside

Baby shower pool parties are always a hit. If you don’t have access to a pool, consider having a barbeque outdoors. Outdoor get-togethers open up the possibilities for more activities, so there is less of a chance that anyone will be stuck in a corner by themselves. You can plan outdoor activities or just relax poolside. Barbeques are usually more enjoyable for the men in the group too since they can bond over sharing grilling techniques while tossing back a cold one.

Donate to the College Fund

Non-parents often struggle with shopping for baby showers. They want to buy something useful but are typically clueless about what babies actually need. Setting up a college fund in lieu of gifts can ease some of that burden. Today, many parents are opening accounts for their child and asking their guest to send donations to help with college costs. Also, no gifts means you don’t have to sit around while the mom-to-be opens a thousand onesies and receiving blankets. You can spend the gift-opening time on fun activities instead.

Twitter

Kelly Clarkson has been laying low recently while she waits for her baby to be born.
We totally missed her at the Academy of Country Music Awards held this Sunday.
The last photo she shared of her bump in social media was this past Valentines’ Day on February 14.
Most recently, on March 7th, the former American Idol season 1 winner started feeling her baby move.
“Okay my baby is moving like crazy in my belly this morning,” she tweeted. “Such a cool yet weird feeling.”

What to do if you think your child has eye problems

As a parent, your primary goal is to ensure that your kids have the assistance and guidance they need to become successful, independent adults. You’re driven to look after them, keep them safe and treat any problems that may crop up along the way. Treating the occasional flu or a bout with chicken pox is one thing, but how do you treat a problem if you’re not quite sure that it exists? One of the more difficult issues for parents to accurately identify, especially in very young children, is problems with vision. Unless your child is actively squinting when she tries to focus on an object or is holding a book too close to her face for comfort, you may not be able to spot the signs of vision problems if you’re not well-versed in the symptoms. Knowing what to do in terms of treatment, prevention and correction isn’t always easy, but there are a few things you can keep in mind to make the journey a bit less complicated.
Know the Symptoms
Classic symptoms of vision issues, like squinting and sitting too close to the television, are red flags for parents, but what many don’t realize is that there are a host of other, subtler signals that can indicate a struggle to see clearly. For newborns, it’s even more difficult to discern any problems because their eyes are not fully developed. In older infants, however, the warning signs can be easier to spot. Irregular movement, one eye that stays stationary while the other moves normally, one eye that’s consistently closed or the failure of mobiles, lights or movement to catch her attention can be cause for concern and should be discussed with her pediatrician at the next well child exam. Toddlers and older babies may bump into furniture or walls when they’re crawling or learning to walk, rub their eyes frequently when they’re not sleepy, cover one eye to see things better and lose their balance when standing from a seated position.
Schedule an Appointment with an Eye Doctor
Around preschool age, even if your child is not exhibiting any signs of vision problems or difficulty seeing, it’s wise to make an appointment with an eye doctor. Even if he can’t yet read, there are still vision tests that can be performed on a young child that are capable of diagnosing many common sight problems. Rather than trying to diagnose a vision problem yourself, it’s important that you make arrangements for your child to visit the eye doctor for a check-up and full exam.

Prepare Her for Glasses
If you suspect that your child is having trouble with her vision, it may be a good idea to start talking about what glasses are used for, how they help people who have trouble seeing and how important they are to people whose sight is compromised. Your child may leave her first ophthalmologist’s appointment with nothing more than a sticker and a pat on the back, but she may leave with a brand new pair of glasses that she’s less than thrilled about. If you have reason to suspect that your child might be suffering from some vision issues, the best course of action is to ensure that she’s prepared for the possibility of corrective measures.
Rethink Harsh Punishments
Kids who can’t see clearly at school may suffer a drop in academic performance, become less active participants in the classroom and show a negative change on their next report card. Because a good education is so important, many parents are quick to treat academic neglect with a zero-tolerance policy, but it’s best to rethink things if your child is also showing other signs of having trouble seeing. The last thing you want to do is punish a child who’s already struggling for doing badly in school. Before flying off the handle when kids act out in school or return home with bad grades, stop to consider whether or not having difficulty seeing could be the motivating factor behind these behaviors.

Music Festival Season: Fashion & Safety Tips for the Pregnant but Still Rocking

If you haven’t let a little thing like the fact that you’re a little pregnant get in the way of your plans to head to a music festival this Spring and you’re trying to figure out how to fit in with all the crop tops, daisy dukes and cutoffs and still look hip, we’ve got an idea. Consider investing in a loose-fitting screen-T with a cool phrase written on the front to distract from your bun in the oven? Local Celebrity, Zoe Karssen, Rebel Yell, Blue and Cream, Chaser LA and other brands make pretty awesome shirts that you can get in a size up.

Pair the T’s with a boho skirt or cropped denims, some round aviators, a fringe bag and combat boots and you’re good to go.
If this is your first kid, this may be your last frolick to a music festival carefee in a long time, so you might as well go out with a bang. Have fun, but be safe and stay clear from the front of the stage where it can get rough and tumble. Hydrate and avoid standing in the mist and rain for too long. Carry protein snacks like trail mix and granola bars in your side satchel so you can munch on when the food line is too long. Don’t starve baby and by all means make sure your blood sugar doesn’t dip too low. Carry hand sanitizer and use it often as it can get a bit unsanitary as you know out in a dusty field.
Also, go early so you can get a spot close to the johns and parking, if possible. By now, you know you make a lot more trips to the john than before.
Have fun and be safe!

How to find a talent rep for your budding actor kid

guest post by Jessica Rofé
I can’t visit my brother’s house without his ten-year-old daughter hounding me about getting her an agent! It’s all she thinks about, talks about and dreams about! I long for the days when the two of us could just have a normal conversation about her friends, what’s going on in school and her favorite movie but she knows that her aunt Jessica is connected to youth talent agents and managers and believes I can make her dreams of appearing on the Disney channel a reality! If only it were that easy!
In 2005, I founded A Class Act NY, Manhattan’s award-winning acting studio for kids and teens, after having worked in casting and on the talent agency side of the business. I was once a wannabe child actor myself but my parents weren’t supportive of me working professionally. If a job landed in my lap, they allowed me to work and they certainly delighted in seeing me star in my school and camp productions but the fact was that they wouldn’t allow me to pursue a serious acting career as a child. So now, I help young performers achieve their dreams of becoming professional, working actors!
The question I often get is, “How do I find an Agent or Manager? It almost seems impossible!” Well, here are five ways to find your budding thespian an agent or manager:
The old fashioned way. Get pictures taken, create a resume and do a mass mailer to all the agents and managers in town, hoping that someone will flag your picture and call you in for an audition. This, however, is not ideal. Firstly, it’s very costly. After spending money on a photographer, photo re-touching and printing, large-sized envelopes and stamps you’ll have quite a large dent in your wallet! Secondly, from my days on the talent agency side of the business, I know there just isn’t enough time for an agency to go through every piece of mail and call actors in for an audition. Auditions may only be held once a year and every person who submits a head shot and resume isn’t going to be seen.
Get out there and perform. Another way for kids and teens to find representation is to perform in productions that are guaranteed to have actively scouting industry reps in attendance. If a child has a good-sized role, agents and managers will have a front row seat for evaluating their abilities and may call them in for a follow-up meeting.
Have a connection. You may even find representation for your child through friends who are already established in the industry. Ask them to recommend you to their agent. However, if your child is the same age, gender and type as the child who already has representation, the friend may hesitate in making the introduction because it would increase the competition their child faces in an already competitive business.
Workshops and Classes. One of the more productive ways of finding representation is to enroll your child in a workshop where they work one-on-one with industry reps. This gives kids an amazing opportunity to work in an intimate class setting with the people who hold the key to their success. In addition to providing exposure, these classes are incredibly educational. Kids are taught proper audition technique, lingo and performance skills that help lay a solid foundation for furthering their acting career.
Agent and Manager Showcases. Perhaps the very best way to find representation is to participate in a by-audition-only agent and manager showcase. If cast, agent and manager showcase participants have the chance to perform for a large group of agents, managers and casting directors. Before auditioning your child for a showcase, a parent should do their research, ask questions about the success rate of prior showcase participants and be wary about false promises. If a young actor participates in a showcase before they are ready to go to the next level, it will only hurt their chances of finding representation in the long run. The most reputable showcases only position aspiring actors who have the best chance of success in front of the very people that can help them realize their dreams.

Prince George and parents arrive in Australia (PHOTOS)

Pardon my obsession with Prince George of Cambridge but I just can’t resist his adorable chunky cheeks. He is such a cutie patootie and his little personalized sweaters are so adorable.

His mom Duchess Catherine and Prince William carted him on their trip to Australia that started this week.

The former Kate Middleton is going to learn how after baby is born it is less about you and all about the kid.

Many New parents worldwide can relate.

She did look polished and almost perfect again, this time in red and wearing a favorite designer of the Royals: Catherine Walker.

Loving the photos the official Royal publicist tweeted out of their arrival today.
A couple decades ago, Will’s mom carried him to Australia when he was a baby and back then it was a bigger deal to make an overseas trip with an infant under 12 months old.

7 ways to get your children to develop healthy eating habits

With the childhood obesity crisis making the news just about every week, it’s important for parents and nannies to encourage healthy eating habits in kids. The habits they learn now will influence how they eat throughout their lifetime. Here are some tips that will help you keep your child’s diet on the right track and give him the knowledge and skills he needs to make life long healthy eating choices.
  1. Introduce a variety of foods at a young age. It’s easy for toddlers to get stuck in a chicken nugget (or other favorite food) rut. While you shouldn’t try and force your child to eat a particular food, you can limit the amount you offer of an unhealthy but favorite food choice, and instead offer a wide variety of other healthy options. By giving your child lots of choices and letting him decide which foods he’ll have and how much he’ll eat, you’ll avoid the power struggles this age is known for.
  2. Keep lots of healthy snacks on hand. Kids of all ages snack several times throughout the day. This intermittent eating is actually a healthy way to consume the daily calories they need, however, children can get into nutritional trouble when snack time is seen as an excuse to have sugary foods. Stock your pantry and refrigerator with lots of healthy choices, such as fruit, bite sized vegetables, low fat yogurt, nuts and cheese. A quick online search will turn up literally hundreds of healthy snack ideas. Having these types of snacks available will help kids make tasty, nutritious choices.
  3. Don’t try to keep your child completely away from sweets. Sweets are not bad when eaten with awareness and in moderation. Helping your child make good choices about sweets is an important part of preparing him to maintain a healthy diet outside of your home. Let’s face it, when your child gets older he will have to make food choices at school, at friends’ homes, and in many other situations. By not making sweets taboo, you make it much more likely that he’ll eat them in smart moderation when they’re offered.
  4. Avoid high sugar processed foods, soda and energy drinks. The American Heart Association found children as young as 1 to 3 years typically consume around 12 teaspoons of sugar per day. By the time a child is 4 to 8 years old, he consumes an average of 21 teaspoons of sugar per day. This problem only gets worse with age, with children who are in the 14 to 18 year age range averaging about 34.3 teaspoons every day. Those amounts are more than 3 times the recommended amount for a healthy diet. Avoiding a lot of processed foods and sugary drinks is one of the easiest ways to curb your child’s sugar consumption. There are plenty of foods like fruit and milk that contain natural sugar to satisfy your child’s sweet tooth.
  5. Don’t make fast food a habit. Going through the drive through on the way home from ballet class or a soccer game is a quick and easy way to solve the question, “What’s For Dinner?” However, fast food is filled with fat, sugar, preservatives and lots of calories. It’s one of the leading contributors to obesity, heart disease and many other health complications. Do meal planning and grocery shopping in advance when your days or nights are going to allow you little time to make a healthy dinner. With a little planning and advance preparation, healthy can also be quick.
  6. Get kids involved in cooking. Kids love to help out in the kitchen. When they’re involved in meal planning and cooking, they’re more likely to eat healthy options without a lot of pushing back. Learning to cook at a young age will also help them develop the skills they’ll need as young adults, when they’ll need to prepare healthy choices for themselves. Even the youngest child can help pour ingredients, stir and mix. Cooking together is also a great way to connect as a family.
  7. Grow a garden. Gardening is a wonderful family activity. Allowing your child to participate in the food cycle from the very beginning gives him a real understanding of where the food on the table comes from. This helps him learn to appreciate fresh and organic choices and turn away from highly processed foods. It also helps him to understand the importance of protecting the environment, gives him first-hand experience with sustainability issues, and connects him to the earth in a meaningful way.
