10 Baby Proofing Things to Do Before Your Baby Arrives

Before you bring your bundle of joy home from the hospital you’re likely to be under the influence of some fairly strong nesting instincts. After washing tiny onesies and bibs, it’s a good idea to get a jump start on baby-proofing. Though your newborn won’t need many of the new security measures for a few months, you’re also not likely to have much spare time on your hands after she arrives.
Rather than realizing a few moments after an injury that your baby’s old enough to require safety precautions around the house, here are a few steps for baby-proofing your home that you might want to consider taking early.
  1.  Keep Bedding Safe – While cute, fluffy bedding can be tempting, it can actually pose a suffocation risk for newborns and infants. Make sure that there’s no more than a finger’s width between the edges of a crib mattress and the sides of the crib, that plush toys and pillows are removed from your baby’s crib while she’s in it, and that you do not use crib bumpers. They may tie a nursery together, and supposedly protect an infant’s head from knocking against the side of a crib, but they are also officially outlawed in some areas and emphatically denounced by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
  2. Choose the Right Furniture – The antique nursery furniture that you found or inherited might be beautiful, but it may also be unsafe. Before using it, make sure that slats in the crib are less than 2 3/8 inches apart, that changing tables have side guards of at least 2 inches high to prevent falls, and that the surfaces are not painted to eliminate the risk of lead-contaminated paint.
  3. Install Toilet Locks – Infants that can crawl will soon be able to pull themselves into an upright position by holding on to a stable surface. When that surface is a toilet, curiosity about the water inside and the unsteadiness of a standing child who can’t support their own bodies properly combine to create a risky situation. Installing locks on toilet seats can help to prevent your little one from drowning.
  4. Use a Faucet Cover – To protect your baby’s soft, delicate head during bath time, using a specially designed cover as a buffer between her sensitive skin and the cold metal of the faucet is best. Be warned, however, that these covers can slip off and are not a substitute for careful monitoring.
  5. Change the Temperature Setting on Your Water Heater – Scalds are among the most common types of burns among children seen in emergency rooms; to ensure that your baby doesn’t inadvertently sustain such an injury, turn the temperature setting on your hot water heater down to 120° or less.
  6. Move Cleaning Fluids and Chemicals to Upper Cabinets – In the average child-free home, cleaning solutions and other chemicals are kept in the lower cabinet, directly beneath the sink. Infants begin pulling themselves along and crawling sooner than some parents expect, which can lead to poisoning scares if such substances are still in reach. Moving your cleaning fluids to an upper cabinet early helps you become accustomed to the placement and reduces the likelihood of you forgetting to do so later.
  7. Be Mindful of Blind Cords and Curtain Tie-Backs – Cords used to open and close blinds, and tie-backs used for drawing back curtains are among the most common culprits in infant and toddler strangulation. There are winding and securing products on the market to help prevent these tragedies, and they should be used in all rooms of the house.
  8. Cushion Edges of Furniture – Padding sharp corners of coffee tables and other low-slung furniture, along with the sharp, hard edges of brick hearths, can protect your baby’s head and face from injury as she learns to grasp these surfaces to gain rudimentary balance skills.
  9. Install Cabinet Locks – In addition to moving dangerous chemicals to upper cabinets well out of a baby’s reach, parents are also encouraged to install cabinet locks to block access. Because inventive or determined babies can sometimes outsmart them, you should still make an effort not to leave your child unattended in kitchens or bathrooms.
  10. Check Carbon Monoxide and Smoke Detectors – In the hustle and bustle of preparing for Baby’s arrival, it’s easy to forget to check the batteries and functionality of your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms. Be sure to test them to ensure that your growing family is protected from poisoning or fire.

Study: Parents Have Just 32 Minutes ‘Me Time’ Daily

A new survey finds parents have just 32 minutes to themselves each day, Fox News reported.

A third of parents say they don’t actually stop “working” until at least 8 p.m. when parenting duties are factored in.

The survey, which was conducted by meal delivery service Munchery, found parents who work full-time spend an average of 18 hours per week directly taking care of their kids.

A quarter of parents say they spend more than 30 hours a week caring for their children.

The average parent polled also said they hide from their children about four times a week to carve out “me time.”

Shahs of Sunset Alum Lilly Ghalichi Mir Births First Child, Then Drops ‘Milf’ brand eyelashes

Former Shahs of Sunset reality TV star Lilly Ghalichi Mir and her husband Dara Mir welcomed their first child together over the weekend.

Alara Mir ❤️ Born 9/30/18,” the eyelash entrepreneur captioned a photo of herself cradling her baby girl with her hubby hugging them both. “Our hearts are so full. Thank you for choosing us to be your parents. ”

The ex-attorney also used the opportunity to plug one sixth of her latest eyelash offerings, her “The Living Your Best Life” collection.

“Wearing the ‘MILF’ Lash during delivery by @LillyLashes,” she finished off the caption. Other lashes in the collection are named “Trophy Wife“, “It’s Lit“, “Okurrr” (a signature term used and made popular by fellow Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum rapper Cardi B), “nstafamous” and “Yasss Queen”. All of them are pop culture terms and certainly fitting! I love the packaging and branding!

That’s how you do it.

Ghalichi and Mir got in August 2016 after dating for several months before having a lavish wedding last May 2017 in Beverly HIlls.

Per E!: “They met in an odd way—they were neighbors and didn’t even know it! She sought approval from her condo’s homeowners’ association to obtain an additional parking spot for her Ferrari and he was on the board. After exchanging emails, they met in their building’s lobby. The meeting was recorded on the complex’s security footage.”

Interesting! Congrats!

Fine for Accidental Fire at a Gender Reveal Party is $8M!

An off-duty border patrol agent in Arizona was recently sentenced to 5 years probation and ordered to pay $8M in restitution for a massive forest fire that started at his and his wife’s April 2017 gender reveal party.

Dennis Dickey of Tucson planned to shoot at a target filled that would explode into pink smoke to reveal to guests at the party that he and his wife were expecting a baby girl.

Only he filled the target with a very highly explosive substance called Tannerite and the shots hitting the target caused an explosion that ultimately damaged more than 45,000 acres of land.

Dickey, 37, plead guilty to a misdemeanor violation of U.S. Forest Service regulations, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Arizona.

He also starred in a series of public service announcements warning others about the dangers of using explosives.

That costly mistake makes he and his wife’s event the most expensive gender reveal party ever. Good thing there were not human fatalities though RIP to any Forrest animals that may have perished during the blaze before it was outed.

My Fave Lifestyle YouTuber is Having the Cutest, Natural Vegan Pregnancy

One of my fave lifestyle YouTubers, Kim, of  The Chic Natural channel and blog is expecting! Actually, the pretty beauty guru announced the news in a cute video she shared on her channel back in June.

The 30-something year old is extremely private so it came as a shock to many of her 1.2M subscribers that she was sharing something so intimated. I believe she has a 12 or 13 year old daughter from a previous relationship when she was in college or something like that. Anyway, I was very happy to see her share her journey because her vegan food, make up, hair styling, haul videos are  so instructional and wonderful.

Kim is a cool person inside and out!

Then, a month later, in July, she shared her 6 months pregnancy journey and update:A

I love her bump-styling videos too

And finally, a glimpse into her daily routine, postes most recently:

What to Wear To A Fall Wedding: 6 Chic Unexpected Trends

I am going to a wedding today and while planning it, I did some online research on what was most appropriate and best to wear to a fall wedding. Here is what my research turned up: darker fall colors like burnt sienna, reds, black are always a good bet. Also, satin but here are some other choice colors and styles.

COLOR: GREEN –

From forrest green to ivory, a deep shade because the color itself is not that popular so wearing a deep green will have you stand out among other guests.

STYLE: WRAP DRESS

The best thing about wrap dresses is that they usually flatter any size, shape or height. These days, designers are making dresses in all materials and are being creative with adornment and the like. Dress up a wrap dress with strappy heels or clutch for a semi-formal wedding, or down with kitten heels or wedges for a more casual affair.

COLOR: WINE/BURGUNDY
Another shade from the red family is wine or burgundy. It is a signature autumn color and is a great choice for a wedding in the later months of the year. Wear a long or mini dress and look fab.

STYLE: LACE
The best thing about wearing lace or a lace overlay dress is that you can feel sexy and feminine and I love wearing lace for weddings. The fabric adds texture and romance to your look. It’s a winner for me for today’s weeding too (photo coming soon!)

COLOR: NAVY

Another deep hue for the fall is Navy. It is an excellent alternative to the old standby basic black. Also, this shade looks great on any skin tone and it feels sensual as well in my opinion. It also can be accessorized easily, I think with gold, pearls, silver or jewel tone accessories. i

STYLE: TURTLENECK

So hear me out! Ordinarily, you’d think of turtlenecks for winter affairs but au contraire, the turtleneck can show up in summer dresses, light tops and other unexpected places. I like the elongated effect they have on the neckline. I love this this lime-hued Lovers + Friends Blaine Sweater Dress below because it makes a bold statement and is a headturner!

Fall Showers Call for Hunter Boots! (Our Faves)

When it comes to classic and timeless fashion items, Wellington boots by Hunter are up there. The rubber goulashes are made by the company which originally was established as North British Rubber Company in 1856. Today, the heritage label maintains its authentic brand identity and has earned worldwide recognition and a royal warrant for its outerwear and footwear collection.

The boots now fuse function with fashion and come in an eclectic range of colors and styles. You can get them in wedge boot style, ombre, in bright colors like teal and hot pink, with quilted calf, and with the sock in sole for as low as $40 on sale at some online retailers worldwide.

We love them because they are mom and mom-to-be friendly. The boots are pretty easy to slip on because they have a large calf are and the rubber soles make them slip resistant and pretty safe and secure for the expecting woman with the displaced center of gravity and precious cargo on her front.

We love Hunter! Check out some inspiration sites below!

Click to buy but they sell out pretty fast so good luck!
