Inside US Olympic Track Star Sanya Richards-Ross’ Baby Shower

sanya-richards-ross

To be honest, we didn’t even know that US Olympic Team Track and Field sprinter Sanya Richards-Ross and her husband, ex New York Giants and New England Patriots Super Bowl champ, Aaron Ross, were expecting their first child. However, we got really excited to see in PEOPLE magazine that the couple celebrated the impending arrival this past weekend.

The event, held at a lavish affair at the W Hotel in Austin, Texas, gave away the gender of their baby: a boy! The venue was decked out in blue and purple floral arrangements.

STEMS Floral Design + Productions provided the beautiful floral arrangements that filled the meeting room, PEOPLE notes, adding that the company truly went all out as there blue and purple flowers at every seat for guests to view and enjoy, including faux trees made of elegant flowers. During the ceremony, some of the female guests sprinkled flower petals at Richards-Ross’ feet, reminiscent of “Coming to America.”

The couple used the occasion of the baby shower to reveal the baby’s name: Aaron Jeremiah Ross Jr. The celebrity couple commemorated the impending birth of their child with a monogram display spelling it out: AJRII. Guests took photos in front of a ivy wall bearing the initials.

Also, according to PEOPLE, the initials A.J.R. II was placed strategically throughout the event space. There was a Sweets Suite just for housing all the decadent desserts for guests. They noshed on several course offerings including duck and halibut.

Here are some of the photos of the events as shared by vendors and guests:

Inside ‘POWER’s Naturi Naughton’s Baby Shower (PHOTOS)

naturi-naughton
Power‘s Naturi Naughton had the most elegant African “It Takes a Village to Raise a Child” themed baby shower last month at the Dazzler Hotel in downtown Brooklyn.

naturi3

Naughton and her longtime beau Ben celebrated the impending arrival at a very festive and exquisitely decorated forum which was also star studded and attended by her co POWER star LaLa Anthony, actresses Regina King (American Crime, The Leftovers) and Nicole Beharie (Sleepy Hollow)  and a Grimm star Russell Horsnby and The Game actor Hosea Chanchez.

“I loved my Afro-Centric theme: ‘It Takes a Village to Raise a Child.’ Primrose Couture Events designed the perfect tribal décor with a village vibe, infused with my Caribbean roots,” the petite star told PEOPLE magazine.

naturi-99

The couple also used the occasion to announce the gender of the baby.

“It’s a girl! My man [longtime boyfriend Ben] and I totally predicted a boy at first,” the former 3LW girl band member told the magazine. “I was so sure because I am having such an easy and stress-free pregnancy and I had heard all these stories about how girls steal your beauty and make you really sick when pregnant. Well … so not true for me.”

naturi4

Ha! We know that’s right. At her shower, Naughton looked stunning and glowed in a white lace frock with her loose ringlets adorned in a light floral crown.  Guests noshed on gold covered oreos, macrons, cake pops, and other tasty delectables perfectly decorated in the theme’s colors of gold and green and had fun cutting up in the photo booth.

But as the night went on, the guests let their hair down and can be seen “jumping up” to some soca music from the Caribbean.

And Naughton, who is also a rapper and excellently played rapper Lil Kim in the movie about the Notorious B.I.G. on the big screen, revived her role on the dance floor to a Lil Kim song.

Naughton told PEOPLE she’s “still feeling pretty good,” but is dealing with one issue many women who have been through pregnancy can relate to.

naturi6

“I’m definitely experiencing the swelling of the feet now though, which sucks, but hey, I get a foot rub every night so I’m loving that part!” she joked while adding that her fave indulgent and cravings are Rice Krispies Treats.

“She puts peanut butter in them and they taste like heaven!” Naughton says. “I can tell the baby is loving them too because there’s a happy dance in my belly after my snack time.”

naturi1

Naughton and Ben are not sharing the baby girl’s name until she arrives.

“I think we are 90 percent settled on a beautiful name that we both love,” adding that she and Ben will decide for sure after her birth but other aspects of baby prep are coming along.

“The nursery is coming together, and it’s hard to resist all the adorable baby girl clothes out there, so her wardrobe is in full effect” she said, though the event is not set to arrive until July so she still has a little bit of time to pull together the last minute nesting.

primrose-couture-events-llc-primrosecoutureevents-%e2%80%a2-instagram-photos-and-videos-1

And July cannot get her fast enough as Naughton is already prepping to be a “mommy and me” type of mom.

naturi2

“Dressing alike, mommy-daughter day dates, singing together and teaching her all the important things I learned from my mother,” Naughton told PEOPLE what she is excited about. “I just want to give her a strong foundation, so she can navigate this crazy world by being a strong and beautiful little girl.”

Inside Beyonce’s West African-Themed ‘Push Party’ Not Baby Shower

img_6330

You might have heard of “Push Presents” and a Baby shower party to celebrate an impending arrival, but leave it to megastar Beyonce to have Push Party!

The multi-award winning recording artist starred in the festive West African themed affair held at a private residence in Beverly Hills, California.

Guests came dressed in colorful headdresses including some from Burkinabaé and also in gelées, kufis, and Ankara styles.

img_6331

The guest of honor herself donned a  cropped African print top and garrah with her head wrap common in Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Gambia and Sierra Leone which she accented with henna tattoos on her belly, a pregnant lady trend we’ve posted about in the past. Her oversize authentic bamboo fan earrings and jewelry all area native to West African costumes.

In Instagram posts Bey’s mom Tina Lawson shared on line, guests included Serena Williams, our Bumpwatch Alum Kelly Rowland who dressed in a Batik tie-dyed off-the-shoulder halter top and slim skirt, LaLa Anthony and another alum Vanessa Bryant also in a Burkinabaé head wrap and jeweler Lorraine Schwartz.

Black and White photos circulating on the Internet showed the venue decorated in African fabric as music from the late Nigerian artist Fela Kuti.

Also, her husband Rapper Jay Z was spotted dancing and having a ball.

We imagine a push party did not involve giving of gifts.

Or it could mean she’s closer to pushing than we think   Her mom was spotted at Cedars-Sinai hospital in LA this week.

Back to the fete:The guests posted photos of the festivities on each of their respective Social media feeds using the hashtag #CarterPushParty. Check them out.

Throw an Amazing Baby Shower With These Top Tips

tea-556777_960_720

A close friend or family member is expecting a new bundle of joy, and you have the exciting task of throwing them a baby shower to remember. There are some things to consider when planning the get-together and some tips to help make the day run smoothly. You want to ensure that everybody leaves with a smile on their face.

Themes

If you know the baby’s gender already, it doesn’t necessarily mean you have to stick to a traditional palette of blue for a boy and pink for a girl. However, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with the classic route, and it will appeal to many. You’ll probably know the mama-to-be well enough to choose a color scheme or theme, so pick one and run with it.

pexels-photo-132254

Yellows mixed with neutral tones, like gray, are a cute, contemporary option and the colors work equally as well for an incoming girl or boy. If the gender won’t be revealed until the due date, why not create a neutral theme with pops of bright color, or your color scheme could be pastels and patterns such as stripes and polka-dots. Pinterest is crammed with baby shower ideas, check them out here.

Food and Drinks

What’s a celebration without the food? Well, usually a room full of hungry people, so, you can’t let that happen and should start planning what everyone will be eating as early as possible. It’s always a very good idea to have a balance of sweet and savory items to nibble, too much of the sugary stuff can lead to a sickly feeling and a headache, so make sure there is a diverse mixture. The food doesn’t need to be over-complicated, so don’t panic, a buffet with a little effort put into the presentation will please all your guests.

pexels-photo-29600

Cupcakes and sandwiches are a tasty option and simple to make; you want to give your guests food that they can pick up and eat comfortably, so soup wouldn’t be the best idea. If the idea of creating a whole table of food worries you, you can always put a “bring a plate” instruction on the invite or email; people are usually happy to do this, and it means they’ll be something everybody’s excited to eat. You might, however, be a creative whizz and you can start matching your frosting color to your themes, the possibilities are endless. Don’t forget, there are also loads of great options in stores, and you could even hire a caterer, nobody will ever know!

Obviously, they’ll be one guest who won’t be drinking alcohol, and baby showers are usually a day event, so hard liquor might be inappropriate. Keep alcohol light and fun, you could make a popular cocktail or punch and serve it from teapots for a tea party theme, or if you’re hosting in an outdoor space, why not use mason jars and decorate them to match the bunting and balloons.

A non-alcoholic drink doesn’t have to be boring either; there are an array of virgin cocktail recipes online. A large jug of water with fruit and mint leaves is another refreshing option that will look pretty on the table too. For a little more food and drink inspiration, take a look at this backyard baby shower: http://bellyitchblog.com/2016/04/inside-terricka-antonio-cromarties-backyard-baby-shower.html.

Party Favors And Gifts

A designated area, where guests can put their gifts is essential. It’s almost a certainty that everyone attending the shower will have bought something for the expecting mom. The opening of the gifts can be a memorable part of the party, so establish a space, with a comfortable chair, where the guest of honor can sit and be the center of attention. If you’re all within a group of friends, you can put your heads (and cash) together and get a larger, joint gift. A gift list is also a helpful way of ensuring the mom-to-be doesn’t get too much of the same, and maybe if you’re an inside source, you’ll know exactly want she needs and wants.

Picking something unique and memorable will always be appreciated, as it’s so obvious how much thought you put into choosing something special. Personalized gifts are sweet and often fun, you could pick something specifically for the expecting mom, her baby, or even the rest of her family. For example, matching personalized mugs for the parents, or customized T-shirts for the whole family would make her smile and what a great photo opportunity; for some more inspiration, have a look here:

http://www.zoeyspersonalizedgifts.com/big-sister-to-be-t-shirts/. The more thought everyone puts into their gifting, the better the memories and the more special the mother will feel.

You can be quite savvy when it comes to your party favors and gifts, and link them in with an enjoyable activity at the shower. Cupcake decorating or creating cake pops are relaxing activities and enable everyone involved to still chat, nibble and drink; they’ll also have something sweet to take home or enjoy at the party. Why not ask everyone to decorate their own paper party bags; have a craft table full of supplies, where guests can put their name on their bag and decorate it (before filling it full of cake and candy). Ensure the activity can be enjoyed sitting down and that there’s no pressure for people to take part if they don’t want to, although, the majority of folks won’t mind one bit.

cake-1398933_960_720

Guest Book And Photos

The mother-to-be will want to remember her special day and be able to look back on it fondly. A guest book is a perfect option for those who like to have a keepsake, and it can’t get more thoughtful than all her nearest and dearest writing their well-wishes in a book she can take home. If there are family and friends that couldn’t make the gathering, perhaps you could organize for them write in it beforehand, so nobody has to miss out. The book itself can be a simple and inexpensive notebook on which you can write the mamas name and the date of her baby shower (and maybe go over to that craft table you set up and decorate it).

Lastly, don’t forget photos! For the social media savvy, you could create a hashtag for the day, so everybody can find pictures from the day online with ease. There’s alway the option of asking guests to email you any pictures they took, so you can create a folder to send to the mama after her baby arrives; perfect for her to browse through when she’s up for a night feed!

Inside Ciara and Russell Wilson’s Baby Shower

Flower crowns and white outfits were the theme dress for Ciara and Russell Wilson‘s baby shower held last weekend.

Celebrity guests like Serena Williams and Lala Anthony snacked on Shake Shack catered menu while attending the extravagant co-ed baby shower

Per E! News, event planner Mindy Weiss organized the event that was “like no other.”

img_3809

After dinner, the Ciara and Wilson’s close family and friends played games and danced the night away to music provided by DJ Nabs.

Also from E!

The party was held at a private home in Los Angeles where a tent was set up overlooking the city’s gorgeous skyline of bright green trees and blue skies. Inside, the tent was lit up by pretty string lights and big balloons that were adorned by gold and silver fringe. A dining area was formed in the shape of a square with balloons filling the space in the center and cute trinkets—like gold elephant statues, massive flower arrangements, candles and books—covered the table.

With a few weeks left until Russian model Irina Shayk and her screen actor beauty Bradley Cooper welcome their first child, the couple had a low-key intimate baby shower in LA this month.

According to insiders, Cooper’s mom and family did a lot of the organizing, but the famous actor was around to help a lot too.

“Bradley was hanging with his mother, making sure everything went smoothly,” the source told E! News exclusively. “He is always very chill and relaxed.”

During the casual daytime event, guests dined on finger foods surrounded by decorations consistent with the baby’s sex.

As far as we know, it hasn’t been released to the public and the couple are doing an excellent job remaining very private and public

Later, the Victoria Secret model opened up “adorable” gifts that included “many designer outfits and toys, all with an expensive price point. She was smiling ear to ear during the whole occasion.” The source also told E! that the shower was “more perfect than she could’ve imagined.”

Must have been a nice event.

Review: Here’s Another Very Cute Baby Shower Gift Book

line-severinsen-im-so-pregnant

Novelty books are always a great gift to give a first time mom or a woman who has just announced she is expecting her first kid. I was sent a copy of Norweigian illustrator and animator Line Severinsen‘s new graphic book, “I’m So Pregnant” to check out (retail: $14.99US). It’s a humorous take on all the common and untold unpleasantness of pregnancy.

In the intro to the hard cover book of over 50 pages of illustrations, Severinsen explains, “Like many women, when I became pregnant with my first baby, I was so excited to have the experience of carrying a child…but then, not long into my first trimester, I started noticing how the media and blogosphere continuously painted pregnancy in such a glorious light, completely leaving out the negative things that many pregnant women experienced.”

She said that’s when she grabbed her pencils to start telling her “pregnancy story in an honest way.” But with all the “keepin’ it real” in between the pages of her new book, Severinsen acknowledges it all ends well.

“I like to think that these drawings show that while pregnancy is not always easy (or pretty, or comfortable, or fun),in the end, when you see your baby for the first time, it is completely worth it,” she writes.

I found the illustrations about the sudden appearance of stretch marks, the asinine question one gets at the end, “You’re still pregnant?!”, the screaming for an epidural, the delivery selfie, and the unexpected bowel movement during the pushing stage to be the BEST and funniest parts!”

Overall, the short read is a pleasurable and fun take on pregnancy-hood. It’s on sale now! Grab your copy from our partners at Amazon.com.

Meanwhile, the title reminded me of this parody of rapper Iggy Azalea‘s song “Fancy” called “I’m so pregnant. WATCH:

Former reality TV star Natalie Nunn celebrated the impending arrival of her first child a baby shower that her husband and friends threw for her at an event hall near their Roseville, Califiornia home.

“Best husband in the world,” Natalie exclaimed. “When your other half can make you a better you … change your life. That’s what I call a power couple,” Nunn said.

The local channel’s morning show covered the event.

When Good Day Roseville host asked the couple how it feels to become first time parents, Nunn replied, “scared!” before Payne chimed in, “A Good Scared!

The former star of the Oxygen channel TV show The Bad Girls Club added, “Everyday, I wake up and I’m like I’m gonna be a mom! But I’m going to be a bad girl mom!”

The mom-to-be explained that the gorgeous bump hugging  fitted fishtail white lace dress she wore at the event was made by a designer she found on Instagram. She also explained during the segment that she used vendors local to her Sacramento and Rossville community.

But her fellow Bad Girl alums, and her husband’s athlete friends flew in from elsewhere to join in the fun and celebration.

The reformed bad girl, who now sells fitness challenges online, also tagged the various companies that worked with her on her social media account including the baker of an exquisite three tiered cake.

“Thank you @UrbanDecay for being a part of my baby shower prize giveaways for my baby shower games,” Natalie tweeted about Lash Dubai “for having the prize winner bags full of lashes for my girls who won pregnant bingo guess my size and price is right!”

Guests played games and enjoyed pink and white princess themed goodies, cupcakes, cake pops and other desserts, mimosas, and a taco bar.
