Kerry Washington is on every cover on your newsstand

Well, not really, but still.

Our Bellyitch alum Kerry Washington has been having a great past few weeks. I see her everywhere on covers of lots of top magazines April and May issues.

Usually, you can tell which designers she is outfitted in during magazine spreads, but scoping her Twitter stream during the airing of her top ABC show Scandal last night,  I discovered that she also tweets out the designers who make the amazingly sharp and gorgeous clothes she wears on the show. It is usually in response to one of her Gladiators swooning and tweeting at her asking who made the clothing item.

Awesome! As a person who dabbles in content marketing and promotion, I think that is an excellent way to promote those labels as well. I hope she’s getting paid for it because I spotted a few pieces I’m coveting now myself. Tee hee!

Werk, Kerry!

Met Gala After Parties- Celeb Moms out Late

After the party is the after party.

Rather than head home following the glamorous celeb-studded Met Gala, some of the celeb moms we’ve followed in the past headed out to the various after parties.

Actress Kerry Washington was spotted at the official “China: Through The Looking Glass” Costume Institute Benefit Gala” After Party on May 4, 2015 at The Standard Hotel in New York City

Katie Holmes and Zac Posen posed up at the Michael Kors and iTunes After Party at The Mark Hotel on May 4, 2015 in New York City.

Solange Knowles was there too and she didn’t go home to change like the others. Last year around this time, everyone was talking about the infamous elevator ride fight video.

Trending: The High Waisted Jeans, A variation of the mom jeans?

So fashion from the 1970s era is trending this Spring.
Ordinarily, I would embrace it because I liked the high waisted jeans that was fashionable several seasons ago. It’s not a style of pant everyone can pull off. Still, back then (and I think now) I thought it was a great way for moms who want to hide a tummy bulge to be current and trendy because the high waist compresses that area.
!function(doc,s,id){ var e, p; if(!doc.getElementById(id)) { e     = doc.createElement(s); e.id  = id; p = ‘//shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/widget-script.js’; var cb = new Date().getTime(); p += ‘?cb=’ + cb; e.src = p; doc.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.ss_shopsense === ‘object’){ if(doc.readyState === ‘complete’){ window.ss_shopsense.init(); } } }(document, ‘script’, ‘shopsensewidget-script’);
Wearing high waisted jeans with a crop top is how the young girls are rocking the trend. But the over 30 set should stick with a nice collared shirt to pair them with.
Also, be careful. If overdone with too many 70s inspired pieces and accessories would have you can looking  like a cliche’d Halloween hippie costume cliche.
Also, that high waist is eerily similar in cut to the dreaded “mom jeans.” aaaaah!  Anyway, I’m non-committal and still thinking about investing in a decent pair.
What do you think? Would you rock the high waisted jeans mamas?!

What to wear to a cocktail party (A PHOTO PRIMER)

I am helping my husband plan his 11th annual reunion weekend events for the high school he attended at his native Trinidad and Tobago. It’s two week aways and in addition to hustling with last minute preparations, I am also scrambling to decide what to wear.
We’ve gotten a few requests from those attending who are from abroad and are not familiar with what cocktail attire entails in the States.
Generally, cocktail parties are classified as semi-formal evening or late afternoon events. During them, guests enjoy cocktail beverages, wine, beer and soft drinks and nosh on appetizers. Some include light to lavish buffets or food stations.
Cocktail parties are also great for socializing and networking. Music, if played, is usually kept down and in the background so guests can hear each other speaking.
Since you never get another chance to make a first impression, you will want to dress dress to impress.
Women can experiment with different styles, colors and lengths of dresses. Since it’s usually attended by the professional crowd, it’s a good idea to not show too much skin.
Make up can be glam but not over the top and the same with the hair. Heels are preferable and a clutch and nice jewelry or other accessories will top off the look.
A popular color is black. It is slimming and safe and there is a variety of the LBD (little black dress) that can accommodate all body types and shapes.
For men, their clothing should be kept simple, but sharp looking. Fellahs,  you will want to turn heads as you walk in the room so looking polished helps.
A crisp white dress shirt or other light trendy color with or without a tie in a up-to-date pattern or material works. A dressy sports coat will be in order, especially if you opt against wearing a tie.
Trousers or even khakis will do.  Shoes should be lace-up or loafer style but polished and worn with dark socks to match…unless you are especially fashionable and trendy and can pull off other sock colors.
It can be a tricky thing determining what to wear for a cocktail party but it is always better to be overdressed than underdressed.

I think Co Co Chanel said that but if she didn’t she should have! ha!

Can’t wait!

Ciara stuns at the White House State Dinner

For a while now rumors circulated whether Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson was dating our very own Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum singer-model-actress Ciara.

All doubt was erased when the “I Bet” singer wowed in a stunning champagne colored custom Walter Mendez dress while attending this Tuesday, April 28th State Dinner at the White House in honor of the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his wife Akie Abe.

This was the first time the two appeared in public together after being coy about their relationship. Wilson had teased that he would take his grandmother, then said he’d take them both but in the end, he told reporters grandmom was “back at home in Virginia.”

Future who? Oh yeah, her ex and father to her son, Future Zahir Wilburn, who she gave birth to last May. And way to go Ciara on bouncing back!

Back to the look! I think it was the perfect way she arched her back and looked so statuesque or maybe the flawless nude make up and  perfect sleek “snatched to the gawds” hair.

Not sure, but its an A++.

Oh yeah and of course, First Lady Michelle Obama looked fab wearing Japanese designer Tadishi Shoji

White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner Red Carpet: Celeb moms and others take DC!

Tonight is the annual White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner at the Washington Hilton. The charity event is a glitzy night for journalists who cover the White House to dress up and mingle with politicos, policitians and policy makers in a relaxed atmoshpere.

Over the years, the event has become a big draw for celebrities and with that, the event’s red carpet is ripe for celeb spotting.

Indeed, several of the celebrity women we’ve covered in the past and currenlty expecting stars graced the red carpet.

Glee  actress Naya Rivera looked radiant in a white floor length (careful mama) Tadashi Shoji evening gown.

I really dug model Adriana Lima‘s black Bibhu Mohapatra gown with the sheer bodice and fitted bottom. The red lip really set off this look and it accented well with her wavy side-swept locks.

Ivanka Trump‘s red strapless fishtail gown was super gorg!

Mom-to-be Model Anne V ‘s lovely floral gown rocked.

 Laverne Cox was also there killing it!

  Haven’t seen Lucy Liu for a while. She looked amaze-balls as well!

Blackish Tracee Ellis Ross‘ vibrant orange gown was a standout as well.

I loved Alfre Woodard‘s look too. She certainly looks refreshing and quite younger here!

Trend: The cross body bag is a perfect accessory for busy moms

Fashion trends come and go. For various reasons, you may not be down with some of them. Some don’t fit your body type or are just too old, youthful or dowdy for your taste. Then once in a while a trend comes into style that is already part of your normal wardrobe and  you give yourself a high five because all of a sudden you’re hip and you don’t even have to buy anything new to be trendy!
That’s how I felt when I learned the cross body or messenger bag styles were hip once more!

I have own several of these types of bags and as a busy mompreneur and head of the family transportation, athletics and social committee, I need to keep my hands free. These bags are perfect. The cross body strap provides security that you’ll keep your bag close to your body like in crowded events or locations, while having the flexibility to have your hands free for other things.

!function(doc,s,id){ var e, p; if(!doc.getElementById(id)) { e     = doc.createElement(s); e.id  = id; p = ‘//shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/widget-script.js’; var cb = new Date().getTime(); p += ‘?cb=’ + cb; e.src = p; doc.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.ss_shopsense === ‘object’){ if(doc.readyState === ‘complete’){ window.ss_shopsense.init(); } } }(document, ‘script’, ‘shopsensewidget-script’);

One of my favorite bags is this vinyl sporty bag I picked up from somewhere years ago and always return to time and time again. It’s great for the gym or quick trips to the market.

A couple of weeks ago, I took my kids to a science museum during Spring break and balanced out a black and white palette with a bright Coach Cross Body bag I got from Marshall’s last season.

!function(doc,s,id){ var e, p; if(!doc.getElementById(id)) { e     = doc.createElement(s); e.id  = id; p = ‘//shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/widget-script.js’; var cb = new Date().getTime(); p += ‘?cb=’ + cb; e.src = p; doc.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.ss_shopsense === ‘object’){ if(doc.readyState === ‘complete’){ window.ss_shopsense.init(); } } }(document, ‘script’, ‘shopsensewidget-script’);

!function(doc,s,id){ var e, p; if(!doc.getElementById(id)) { e     = doc.createElement(s); e.id  = id; p = ‘//shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/widget-script.js’; var cb = new Date().getTime(); p += ‘?cb=’ + cb; e.src = p; doc.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.ss_shopsense === ‘object’){ if(doc.readyState === ‘complete’){ window.ss_shopsense.init(); } } }(document, ‘script’, ‘shopsensewidget-script’);

And more recently, I spotted this leather fringed cross body bag with gold hardware which mixes the fringe trend with the messenger style bag trend.

!function(doc,s,id){ var e, p; if(!doc.getElementById(id)) { e     = doc.createElement(s); e.id  = id; p = ‘//shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/widget-script.js’; var cb = new Date().getTime(); p += ‘?cb=’ + cb; e.src = p; doc.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.ss_shopsense === ‘object’){ if(doc.readyState === ‘complete’){ window.ss_shopsense.init(); } } }(document, ‘script’, ‘shopsensewidget-script’);
What do you think of the trend? Would you rock a cross body bag?

TREND: The High Waisted Bikini is great for Moms

Because I will be heading to a beach soon and am determined to get back in a bikini and not go the mom-bathing suit route with the skirt and swim top, I thought I’d research what offerings Shopstyle had and share. Here are some mom-friendly but still hot swimsuit options I came up with that could offer great coverage for those looking to conceal a not-so-perfect-anymore tummy and/or enhance breastfeeding deflated boobies.

This is an update to this past post from last summer featuring sexy bathing suit options for moms. In addition to high-waisted bikini bottoms, the monokini styles are great for covering and compressing extra “stuff” no one needs to see! ha!
What do you think? Which is  your favorite?
