Celebs And Conception: What You Won’t Get From Most Media

When it comes to celebs and conception, the picture is often pretty skewed. If media accounts were anything to go by, our fave famous people are visited by conception fairies during the night. Just like that, they wake up pregnant. The speed of Meghan Markle‘s pregnancy is a fantastic example. If there were ever motivation to believe in the baby and stork story, our celebs would be it.

But, this is far from the baby reality. Conception is harder work than most of us expect it to be. Far from becoming impregnated overnight, we have to go all out to track ovulation and make the most of prime moments. Even after all that, around 6.1 million women in the U.S. struggle to conceive. That’s a lot of women, and this immaculate conception image of our celebs doesn’t help.

The fact is that struggling to conceive can take its toll on any couple. Continual reminders of how easy this is for others just makes things harder. Not to mention that it’s unrealistic . A quick look at the facts suggests that not everyone gets as lucky as our royal love birds. Many famous women have come forward over the years to speak out about conception struggles. If this is a battle you’re caught in at the moment, read on to remind yourself that you aren’t alone.

Kim Kardashian

Health problems meant pregnancy was no longer an option for our favorite Kardashian

Kim and Kanye are fan faves. Along with having millions of adoring fans. This is the ultimate glam couple that a lot of people love to hate. Don’t get us started on the politics game either. Right now, the duo are over in Africa donating shoes to poor kids and pledging to build schools and infrastructure.  They’re also known for their speedily grown family. But, Kardashian makes no secret about the fact that it took over a year to conceive her second child due to something called placenta accreta. The condition caused her to have operations which led to complications resulting in a hole in her uterus. While the two did overcome the odds and conceive, the struggles weren’t over yet. During her second pregnancy, Kardashian developed preeclampsia. This meant that, despite her desire for a third child, doctors warned pregnancy was too risky. The couple didn’t let that stop the growth of their family, though. The pair decided to look into using a surrogacy program instead. They’re now strong advocates for the cause, claiming that they’re ‘really thankful’ they went down this route. See, even Kardashian’s come up against medical complications on this challenging journey.

Our favorite Sex in the City girl has a story which rings relatively similar to the one above. Though she conceived her first child naturally later in life, SJP experienced secondary infertility issues with gusto. Unlike the Kardashians, this struggle on went on for years until she and her partner decided to consider alternative routes. SJP has never come forward about the exact reasons behind her troubles, but it’s thought she attempted IVF before settling on a surrogate which led to the birth of twins in 2009. During an interview in Vogue the following year, SJP said, “Meeting your children rather than giving birth to them, it’s as if, um, it’s suspended animation. The gestational experience is gone,” adding, “it’s so different and equally extraordinary… But it’s amazing.” So, it seems as though this story, at last, has a happy ending. But, let us not forget the struggle which came before it. Ladies of the world; Sarah Jessica Parker has been here before you.

Nicole Kidman

Even the fantastic Nicole Kidman has come up against conception demons. The actress adopted two children with ex-husband Tom Cruise, but she didn’t conceive her daughter until the age of 41. She then spoke out on Australia’s ‘60 minutes’ about her struggles to conceive again. This is a journey which again led Kidman to turn to a surrogate to achieve her family dreams. “Anyone who’s been in the place of wanting another child or wanting a child knows the disappointment, the pain and the loss that you go through trying,” she said. “We were in a place of desperately wanting another child. I couldn’t get pregnant.” Luckily, it all worked out okay in the end, with a second daughter for Kidman and husband Keith Urban.

A final word

All these stories could be real inspirations for struggling women. We can’t thank these amazing ladies enough for coming forward. The only trouble is, these stories aren’t as easy to find as they should be. We certainly don’t see celeb IVF battles on the covers of magazines. Perhaps, then, there should be less focus on ‘how to get rid of your baby belly’, and more attention on how to conceive in the first place.

Trend: How to Rock A Fanny Pack Fashionably and Effortlessly

The Fanny pack was seen on the runways this Fashion week season.

The functional bags that keep your hands free are a throwback to the 90s but back then, they were usually vinyl and brightly colored. Called a “Fanny pack” because it is worn at the waist, right above the Fanny, the reinvented fashionable ones have more variety.

They are worn across the body, at the waist or on the hip like a holster.

Also called a “bum bag”, the bags famously made an appearance in the 2000s as seen worn by Sarah Jessica Parker’s character Carrie Bradshaw on her hit HBO show Sex and the City.

Last night, I tried out the style while attending a soca music concert and out and about in DC.

I couldn’t help but notice how freeing it was to not have to hold Anything.

When Expecting, Chic Preginistas Wear Louboutin Flats

A little while ago,Sarah Jessica Parker‘s in the long-running hit HBO show  Sex in the City character, Carrie Bradshaw, made Jimmy Choo  and Manolo Blahnik the “it” shoes to covet and have.

Since then, we believe Christian Louboutin has taken the crown as the most coveted shoe.

Although, the designer is known more for his red bottom pumps, he also makes other leather goods like wallets, handbags, and clutches and other accessories. And more than just pumps, the brand also sells a good range of ballet slippers.

We mention this because they are perfect for that preginista that loves to stay fashionable and outfitted in the best and most coveted exquisite fashion items. When swollen feet and sciatia make pumps a no-no, enter your Louboutin Ballet slippers to save the day!

Here’s a curated list of our faves from our partners at Shopstyle.

Sarah Jessica Parker and Her Children Have the Best Style!

sarah-jessica-parker-kids

Style icon Sarah Jessica Parker is opening her first brick and mortar retail shop in my county, a suburb to Washington, DC. I’m excited and interested in seeing if she will start selling children’s shoes and clothing soon.

If you’ve ever seen photos of her and her 8-year old twin daughters Tabitha and Loretta out and about “in the city”, you may notice that they too have a pretty distinctive and chic style. Parker sticks with boyfriend jeans, cropped sweaters, boots, and comfy sweats. Her girls are always in frilly skirts, colorful tops and bottoms with eclectic prints. They mix and match and that makes it all so fun!

In an interview with PEOPLE magazine a few years back, the Divorce star said that her kids pick their own clothes.

“They’re at an age — and have been for many years — where they really have their own identity,” the “Sex and the City” star told People Friday at the launch of the Fendi New York flagship store.”So Sunday through Thursday, the rule is they can wear whatever they want,” Parker, 49, said of 12-year-old son James Wilkie and five-year-old twin daughters Tabitha and Loretta with husband Matthew Broderick. “And if we go to the theater or to the ballet, I get a say. But it’s really among choices that they approve of.”

Parker, who is married to actor Matthew Broderick and shares three children with him,  recently started designing clothing herself, a few years after launching her own line of handbags and shoes with couture designer Manolo Blahnik.

But when it comes to her son, she is all about thrifting.

“I will only buy secondhand clothes for my son, James Wilkie. The documentary The True Cost really changed me,” she told The Edit online magazine. “The one area I’ve had a hard time with is pants, but I buy used T-shirts and sweaters for him. Track pants are hard—boys rip them; I don’t know how to get around that.”

And recently, she proved that she is a really hands-on mom who puts her kids first.

Shortly after collecting her  People’s Choice Award, she rushed off back to New York so she could get to bed in time to go to her her daughters’ piano recital the next day, E! Online reported.

“I’m running to catch an airplane right now. Literally I have two more seconds then I have to run home,” she said. “I’m going back home to New York. My daughters have a piano concert tomorrow, so I have to be there for that.”

Awesome!

sarah jessica parker

Sarah Jessica Parker is in the news for returning to television in the HBO television show Divorce and for  hinting that one of my all-time fave shows Sex and the City may possibly be making its second big screen debut. I’m excited. I’ve been following Miss Parker’s career since she was a teenager appearing in movies like Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Footloose and LA Story in the early 1990s.

I’ve been also impressed by her foray into fashion and have always found her to be quite the stylish mom. I also admired that she was one of the early celebs to be upfront about having fertility struggles and using a surrogate to welcome her twin daughters in the world with husband fellow 90s Brat Pack member Mathew Broderick.

I peeped this adorable fall outfit that she wore while out and about with her girls the other day. You can get the look for under $350!

We’re Not Worthy: Jeremy Scott Designed a Gold-Trimmed $1700 Stroller

Luxury baby goods, which includes a stroller, car seat, and baby carrier, continue to be coveted by the rich and famous.

I continue in my research to catch up on the latest and hottest strollers since I used to publish a preeminent first-of-its kind biennial Most Expensive Stroller blog post series,  started in 2007.

I have discovered that designer Jeremy Scott has bedazzled (as Slate magazine put it) a high end stroller made by the luxe brand Cybex.  Essentially, Scott added his trademark gold angel wings and polished gold frame not the wheels and that alone jacked up the normally-priced  $1,000 stroller to close to $1700!

Wowza!

The type of folks that will fork over that much for a stroller, even as an investment piece, won’t blink twice at that premium price.

Cybex, which makes strollers, car seats ($369.95) , baby carriers ($129.95) and other baby transportation products, is the choice for the A-List celebs. Cate Blanchet, Keira Knightly, Fergie, Sarah Jessica Parker, Gisele Bundchen, Miroslava DUma, Liv Tyler, Gwen Stefani and David Beckham have all been photographed pushing their tops in one these strollers.

But what struck me most was the branding. I mean I felt as though I have to be a great looking svelte Manhattan mom with great skin, great hair and a hot husband to own one of these things.

In the US, a lot of the Giggle stores carry it in the retail stores and online so the line is accessible even if you don’t live near the right zipcode.

Louboutin who? Jimmy Choo and Monolo Blahnik make a red carpet comeback

It’s probably safe to assume that Zuhair Murad made a splash at this year’s Academy Awards, outfitting many celebrity women including Anna Farris, Jennifer Lopez, Jane Fonda, Jennifer Aniston among others.
!function(doc,s,id){ var e, p; if(!doc.getElementById(id)) { e     = doc.createElement(s); e.id  = id; p = ‘//shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/widget-script.js’; var cb = new Date().getTime(); p += ‘?cb=’ + cb; e.src = p; doc.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.ss_shopsense === ‘object’){ if(doc.readyState === ‘complete’){ window.ss_shopsense.init(); } } }(document, ‘script’, ‘shopsensewidget-script’);
Besides this design house’s red  carpet  success, I’ve noticed a resurgence of women wearing Jimmy Choo and Manolo Blahnik pumps too this award season. The two lines feature low heeled and delicate architecture, and were once made popular by Sarah Jessica Parker‘s character Carrie Bradshaw on the hit HBO  series Sex in the City. She craved them and would forgoe eating and paying rent to get her hands on the coveted shoes.
But with Christian Louboutin becoming a recent hit, the old faves of the late 90s had all but disappeared at high society events.
It’s refreshing to see more shoes with more sensible heights for moms and moms-to-be make a comeback!

2014 Met Ball Red Carpet Trends as worn by celebrity moms

Among the A-List celebs strutting their looks on the red carpet to this year’s Met Ball were several of our Bellyitch alum moms last night, May 5.
There was a departure from the traditional avante garde fair this year given the theme “Charles James: Beyond Fashion”, named after the newest exhibit at the museum. It allowed the ladies to do old Hollywood glam, which is safer and more feminine for the annual gala put on by the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, and produced by Vogue editor-in-chief Ana Wintour.

The actual exhibit featured vintage old and recent Hollywood red carpet and other formal evening dresses worn by major US and international stars.
We saw some trends starting with the traditional trains, as spotted on Beyonce in a Givenchy dress and shoes adorned with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry; and on Charlize Theron in a black and white Dior dress worn with Fred Leighton jewels.

Actress Lake Bell held it down for the pregnant ladies in Tomy Hillfiger while Ivanka Trump did an earthy pattern in Oscar de la Renta.

Event co-chair Sarah Jessica Parker also wore Oscar de la Renta in a black and white ball gown while Victoria Beckham went as herself, in a sleek strapless Victoria Beckham evening dress.

Dark colors were seen on Marion Cotilliard in Christian Dior and Kim Kardashian in a sateen teal Lanvin evening dress with Lorraine Schwartz jewels.

Metallic and Silver were worn by singer Lily Allen in Chanel Couture, model Lily Aldridge in Michael Kors and Nicole Richie in Donna Karan Atalier

Going with bold color was Katie Holmes in a full sunny gown by  Marchesa and Reese Witherspoon looking polished and pretty in Stella McCartney.
