Flight Attendant Breastfeeds Passenger’s Baby

Flight attendants get called on to do all sorts of things in the air.

Phillipines Airline flight attendant Patrisha Organo stepped up to breastfeed a passenger’s baby when the mom ran out of infant formula during a long flight.

Organo, who obviously had recently given birth and had milk supply from nursing her own baby, jumped in to help the exasperated mom.

“Everything went smoothly until after take off,” Phillippine Airlines attendant Patrisha Organo wrote on her Facebook page on Wednesday about a domestic flight.

“I heard an infant’s cry, a cry that will make you want to do anything to help,” Organo captioned a photo of her doing the good deed while blurring out the face of the baby to protect and the family’s privacy. “I approached the mother and asked if everything’s OK, I tried to tell her to feed her hungry child. Teary-eyed, she told me that she ran out of formula milk. Passengers started looking and staring at the tiny, fragile crying infant. I felt a pinch in my heart. There’s no formula milk on board. I thought to myself, there’s only one thing I could offer and that’s my own milk. And so I offered.”

Presumably for one reason or another the passenger couldn’t nurse her own child.

Bravo to her though feedback wasn’t all positive as some people commenting on the FB post pointed out the health risk of passing on things like HIV and other potentially harmful things to a stranger’s baby.

Indeed, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration warns that giving a baby breast milk from another mother can pose health risks.

“Risks for the baby include exposure to infectious diseases, including HIV, to chemical contaminants, such as some illegal drugs, and to a limited number of prescription drugs that might be in the human milk, if the donor has not been adequately screened,” the FDA counsels.

Bellyitch’s Fave Things: Naipo’s Home Shiatsu Massager

Whether you are expecting, just had a baby, are an overworked stay at home, work from home or working parent, you’re going to have aches and pains related to stress.

Stress can take a toll on the body in the form of muscle cramp, soreness and fatigue. There is a similar pain associated with working out or doing athletic activity to peal off baby weight after giving birth or simply, while you’re on your fitness and health journey.

To ease the pains, having a durable, reliable and effective non-medicinal home remedy and option can be ideal. I use balms and salves and pain medicine and an occasional trip to the massage therapist for a deep tissue massage.

But that is not always an option and can be costly and that is why I was grateful to have been able to test out Naipo’Neck Massager Adjustable Intensity Shiatsu Back Shoulder Massager with Heat and 3D Deep Tissue Kneading Electric Massage Machine. (complimentary in exchange for an honest review)

It’s  a portable massager, wrapped in quality leather and mesh material and delivers some serious kneading. You can position it on  your neck or lower back and it delivers the best in relief EVER! I swear! This is good stuff. It comes with two connectors: one for a standard plug at home and one that connects to the car cigarette lighter so you can get treatment on the go!

Perfect for long car rides during the holidays or over summer break, for people who drive for a living like Truck Drivers and Lyft, Uber and taxi drivers. The long periods of time sitting can give the body a beating after a while.

It has an ergonomic design perfectly fits your body to provide you an optimum use. Heating function works effectively on relieving tightness and poor blood circulation.

This massager would make an EXCELLENT give this holiday season as well and retails for just $43.99 on Amazon! A steal at  under $50 compared to over $1,000 in chiropractor or masseuse bills.

I did a video review too. LOOK:

About Rick Ross New Baby Boy, ‘Billion’ and Other Celeb Wealth Loving Ways

What’s more crazy interesting than celebrities who are so passionate about wealth that they show it off in their music videos are those that carry it over to their child-raising.

Case in point: Rick Ross and his girlfriend fitness model Briana Camille recently welcomed their a baby boy to the world and perhaps as a nod to their monetary goal in life, they named the little one: Billion

The “Green Gucci Suit” rapper, who’s expected to appear on the Creed II soundtrack, used his Twitter account to make the announcement:

“Let’s all welcome my son ‘Billion Leonard Roberts’ to the world ?… ??,” he tweeted without revealing the baby’s mom. The newest arrival joins the world a little over a year after they welcomed daughter, Berkeley Hermes. Granted it is the name of a Roman God but I think he was thinking of the luxury brand. (ha!) Ross now has four children including his eldest daughter, and his first born son with ex Tia Kemp.

It’s not just names either.  Some celebrate impending arrivals with wealth-brand themes. For example, last weekend Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood stars  Lyrica Anderson and husband A1 celebrated the impending arrival of their baby boy with a Tiffany & Co– themed baby shower.

Actually, the Tiffany theme is quite common. All  you have to do is run a search for it in Pinterest where I got this photo below:

Celebs have even gone as far as name their babies after money itself.

Recall, a while ago, Real Housewives of Atlanta reality TV wives Kandi Burruss and Kim Zolciak-Biermann feuded over what to name their future child. Each wanted to use the name Kash. Zolciak even went as far as get the name Kash Kade trademarked before the baby was even born.

Of course Cash is an authentic real name that is not connected to money. See director and producer and spouse of Jessica Alba, Cash Warren, for example. Also, Hawaii 5-O star Will Yun Lee and his wife Jennifer Lee named their son Cash.

I’m a firm believer in naming a baby whatever you please and makes you happy! Given most celeb babies will never have to worry about a name getting in the way of getting a job, why not name em “Billion”?

Happy baby naming!

5 Ways to Teach Kids About Thanksgiving

The first Thanksgiving as we know it was celebrated in 1621 in Plymouth, Massachusetts. It was a celebration that was born from the pilgrims desire to give prayers of thanksgiving to God for giving them a good harvest.  Thanksgiving was tied to religious celebrations for hundreds of years, but today there are many secular celebrations as well.  Many times, Thanksgiving is over shadowed by Halloween and Christmas because it’s not as flashy or filled with gifts and treats.  Here are some ways to teach your kids to be thankful and to enjoy Thanksgiving.

  1. Create a thankful jar.  For this, you will need a jar of some sort.  This is a great time to recycle a jar that you have recently emptied.  Wash and dry the jar thoroughly and remove any labels that might be on it.  Cut a strip of printer paper that is the right size to wrap around the jar.  Encourage the kids to decorate the strip with a Thanksgiving theme, making sure to write “Thank you” or “Thanks” some place on the strip with crayons or markers.  When the kids are finished, glue the strip of paper around the jar. If you like you can tie a pretty ribbon around the mouth of the jar.  Have the kids cut up slips of paper that can be used for everyone to write what they are thankful for during the days leading up to Thanksgiving.  During dinner everyone should pass around the jar and take a slip of paper out and read it.
  2. Read a book.  There are many books in the library or at the bookstore that explain the story of the first Thanksgiving.  Pick out a book that is age appropriate for the children you are reading to so that they can better understand the story.  Use the story to teach the kids how you feel about Thanksgiving and why you think it’s important.
  3. Perform a puppet play.  Gather together several lunch sacks, construction paper, glue, crayons and other things to create puppets.  If you’d like, you can also print out characters from clip art, cut them out, and glue them to a craft stick instead.  Even a sock puppet will work for this project.  Make puppets that represent the pilgrims, the Native Americans and maybe even a turkey or two.  As the kids are working on making the puppets you can talk about what the pilgrims wore versus what the Native Americans wore.  Keep in mind that historically it is believed that the Native Americans were dressed very simply and would not be wearing a big war headdress.  Once the characters of the puppet play have been created you can talk about the first Thanksgiving and then act it out with the puppets.
  4. Play a game.  Create your own Thanksgiving trivia game.  Go online and find a bunch of facts about Thanksgiving and put them on cards.  Each question should be on its own card. The person who gets the question right can keep the card, that way you can see who wins the most cards at the end.  The beauty of this game is that you can gear the questions to the age of the players.  You may need to have true and false questions or multiple choice questions for little ones.  This game can even be played at the table during Thanksgiving.  You can reserve a special set of adult questions to be added to the game.  You might want to print out the adult questions on a different color paper or using a different color of ink so that you will know which questions are meant for adults.  The game can be fun and challenging, and it will also teach your children a lot about Thanksgiving.
  5. Cook an authentic dish.  There are some misconceptions about what kind of food was served at the first Thanksgiving dinner.  Research with your child what foods would have been there and then prepare some of those dishes on the days leading up to Thanksgiving.  A few suggestions would be: succotash, corn soup, squash, beans, maple sugar candy and berries (even cranberries).  While you are cooking you can talk about how you think the pilgrims and Native Americans would have cooked their food since they didn’t have electricity.  You never know, you might find some new family favorites.

Spend some time with the kids talking about Thanksgiving and why it’s important to you and your family.  Many people find that adopting an attitude of thankfulness all year long helps them enjoy life more.  Give it a try and see what you think.

Michelle Obama Had A Miscarriage, IVF at Age 34, Memoir Reveals

Michelle Obama reveals in her upcoming new book that at age 34, she and President Barack Obama went through the in vitro fertilization (IVF) process when they couldn’t’ conceive through traditional means.

Inside her memoir, “Becoming“, to be released this upcoming Tuesday (pre-order yours today), she opens up in a way she couldn’t before when she was married to the leader of the Free World and she really goes in deep and personal.

In an advance copy given to the Washington Post, she revealed how she had to give herself the necessary shots when her husband was off fulfilling his duties in the state Legislature.

“I felt lost and alone, and I felt like I failed,” she told Robin Roberts in an interview that ran Friday on Good Morning America. “I didn’t know how common miscarriages were, because we don’t talk about them. We sit in our own pain, thinking that somehow we’re broken.”

Of those who had a miscarriage, 37% felt they had a lost a child, 47% felt guilty, 41% reported feeling that they had done something wrong, 41% felt alone, and 28% felt ashamed, according to a 2015 study CNN cited.

In opening up this way, the former First Lady is showing to the world that she is no different from other women who have suffered in silence. She also pointed at the social stigma of miscarriage and blamed it for why more women do not open up about their loss.

“The biological clock is real because egg production is limited. I realize that now because at 34 and 35, we had to do IVF.” she shared.  “I think it’s the worst thing that we do to each other as women, not share the truth about our bodies and how they work and how they don’t work.”

The former law firm attorney looks to want to inspire and encourage others because her struggles, they came out on top and with two beautiful children to boot.

“Too many young couples who struggle…think there is something wrong with them,” she added during the interview, saying she wants them to realize people like her and her husband, who are considered couple goals have dealt with it.

It’s great that she is using this opportunity to commiserate with those who have lost and struggled with infertility.

Watch bits of the interview here and she talks about miscarriage about 1:08

Alert: Birth Control Pill Recall

Janssen Pharmaceuticals has recalled three lots of birth control pills after it was discovered that the medication’s dispensers were printed without “appropriate” instructions, the FDA said.

One lot of Ortho-Novum 1/35 and two lots of Ortho-Novum 7/7/7 were recalled because the taking the pills without following the proper instructions could cause women to take them in the wrong order, according to a recall alert

It could also lead women to take an inactive “reminder” pill instead of an “active” pill which could cause unintended pregnancy or bleeding, officials said.

The pills must be taken in the correct order for them to be effective.

The FDA provided a list of the three affected lots.

Janssen Pharmaceuticals issued a statement on the recall and provided correct instructions on its web site.

“The Ortho-Novum product itself remains safe and effective for use with the appropriate dispenser instructions,” the statement said. “Women should continue to take the 21 ‘active’ pills for three weeks, followed by the one week of ‘reminder’ pills.”

The pills were were distributed in the U.S. wholesalers, distributors and pharmacies, and they have been notified by recall letter to return affected products, the FDA said.

Congratulations to actress Gabrielle Union and her husband Miami Heat guard Dwayne Wade who welcomed a daughter via a surrogate last night.

The Being Mary Jane star announced the news with a poem starting with the lyrics of Bill Withers‘ song “Lovely Day” on her Instagram and Twitter accounts this afternoon, captioning three photos of her and the NBA player giving “skin-to-skin” contact with their newborn:

When I wake up in the mornin’ love

And the sunlight hurts my eyes

And there’s something without warning, love

Bears heavy on my mind

Then I look at you

And the world’s alright with me

Just one look at you

And I know its gonna be

Review: Engage Your Picky Eater With This Food Explorer Tool

If you have a picky eater at home, one way to get him or her to be a more adventurous eater is by exploring it first! That’s right! It is the premise behind a book by Dina Rose, “It’s Not About the Broccoli: Three Habits to Teach Your Kids for a Lifetime of Healthy Eating” Rose suggests that if you get your children to learn more about food, its color, its texture and nutrition benefits, they become more informed. Dr. Rose describes the three habits – proportion, variety, and moderation – all kids need to learn, and gives you clever, practical ways to teach these food skills.

She believes that all children can learn to eat right if their parents change the way they interact with them around food. “Just like children need to be taught how to walk, read or dress themselves, healthy eating habits must be taught. Once you do, children will benefit from a lifetime of happy and healthy eating.”

With It’s Not About The Broccoli you can teach your children how to eat and give them the skills they need for a lifetime of health and vitality, Rose explains.

To supplement her ideas, her health food company, The Happy Bite Company, released a Super Food Explorer kit with experiments you can use to guide your child through learning about the food he eats.  It retails for $35.

Each Kit includes:

  • 32x Magnifying Glass
  • Child-Sized Tongs

The One Baby Naming Rule Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Must Follow

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s baby has barely been incubated for a full trimester when bookies all over the world started accepting wagers on which name will be picked.

Unlike those who have children closer in line of succession to the British Throne like Duchesess Catherine and Prince William,  the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will have more flexibility  to go with a less traditional name.

For example,  Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew, called their kids Beatrice and Eugenie, more unique selections of names.

“The further down the line of succession, the more likely you are to have a more unique or nontraditional name,” Carolyn Harris, author of Raising Royalty: 1,000 Years of Royal Parenting, told Vogue Australia. “We see, from the diversity of names among the Queen’s descendants, that the Queen does seem willing to allow the descendants to choose their own names.”

The only real reaquirement is that they share the name with Queen Elizabeth and the rest of the royal family first so they can check if the name is suitable.

Despite the ease on pressure, it looks like bookies are placing bets on traditional names like Victoria, Arthur, Albert and Diana which are hot favorites, as are the names of Harry’s grandparents, Elizabeth and Philip, according to News Australia.

It seems likely that Meghan and Harry will stick to the usual suspects as well. What do you think? Let’s talk about it online!
