Winter Olympics: Easy-to-Make Korean Dishes to Make for The Family

If You Cannot Physically Be At the Winter Olympics in South Korea, You Can Still Enjoy and Prepare Korean Dishes With the Kids and For Your Family

We are well into the first full week of the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea. While watching the athletes compete, I cannot help but think about my recent discovery and love for Korean food and how I now enjoy preparing Korean dishes at home.

I searched and found The Spruce has curated 10 easy-to-make Korean recipes you can make for the family and/or with the kids! Here are the four I think I will try:

Korean Rolled Egg Omelette (Gaeran Mari)

You only need 10 minutes to make this beautiful dish. You could enjoy a Korean rolled egg omelette for breakfast, as part of a bento lunch, or for dinner. You can vary the vegetables and even add some ham or other meat.

Kimchi Fried Rice (Kimchi Bokumbap)

Making kimchi fried rice is a great way to use leftover kimchi that’s a bit past its prime, as well as leftover rice. You can make it with Canadian bacon or thinly sliced beef, pork, ham, or even Spam. Or, use tofu for a vegetarian protein.

 

Spicy Kimchi Stew (Kimchi Jjigae, Kimchichigae)

This popular Korean stew can be whipped up in just 35 minutes. It’s another great use for older kimchi as that will lend more rich flavor. There is a lot of room for variation in this dish. You can use beef, pork, or canned tuna, and vegetables including potatoes, zucchini, and mushrooms. It can be a go-to meal to clean out the refrigerator.

 

Korean Seasoned Spinach (Sigumchi Namul)

You only need 15 minutes to make this side dish of Korean seasoned spinach. It can also be used as part of other well-known main dishes in Korea such as chapchae (stir-fried noodles), kimbap (rice and seaweed rolls), and bibimbap (rice with mixed vegetables).

Teen Vogue: Kylie Jenner Escapes the Young Mom Stigma Moms of Color Receive

It was just a little while ago that Kylie was a little bright eye little girl. Like less than a half decade ago. She was dating little Jaden Smith for goodness sake.

There is anteresting piece in Teen Vogue how young mothers who are not Kylie Jenner are stigmatized and blame for the downfall of their entire community, yet rich privileged moms get a pass. Well, I think there can be an emphasis of “rich” because I think the teen moms of MTV’s Teen Mom are judged pretty harshly as well but I get what the author is getting at. Because while MTV tried to avoid stigmatizing the usual suspects by mainly casting white teen moms, they ended up making those moms famous— so in essence, they were rewarded for being a teen mom. The Catch 22 of it all!

Anyway, Lara Writ writes:

Kylie’s privilege of privacy also helped her shy away from a lot of the stigma and shame projected onto poor women and black and brown mothers. Her whiteness and wealth means she won’t receive the same level of criticisms or judgements — not that she should, no one should ever be shamed for their pregnancy. However, it is important to note that because of our capitalist and racist society, as well as the U.S.’s history of chattel slavery, black mothers are subjected to pregnancy shaming and scrutiny, especially if they are unwed. Because of anti-black racism and misogyny (misogynoir), black mothers are blamed for the deterioration of patriarchal and traditional family structures, the social-ills which impact black communities and the sexist double standards of promiscuity. Black feminists have long described how the racist roots of American history gave birth to these stereotypes of black mothers, and how politicians like President Ronald Reagan used racist tropes to cut funding to social welfare programs.

When we discuss Kylie’s pregnancy and the birth of her baby, it’s also important to stray from shaming her for being a young mother while also taking into account her privilege. There are many things we should be changing in this country, from access to proper reproductive healthcare to better sex-ed to the dismantling of racism within all spectrum of society. Kylie deserved to have her baby without any stress-related complications, but so do all parents.

You can get sexy and show off some leg like Style Pantry blogger Folake Kuye Huntoon or Kylie Jenner or be more covered and rock lace or a massive frock Victorian lady like current mom-to-be Chrissy Teigen wore recently.

Valentine’s Day is the day before the much-anticipated Black Panther movie premieres and African wear is in order. Pair two different prints and center them all with a big and bold black belt. You can do the Sex Kitten or Vixen look in a body con dress like the one Taraji P. Henson sizzled in on the red carpet or keep it HBIC (Head Bitch In Charge) with an insanely fierce Victoria Beckham dress. 

For moms-to-be, a fave of ours, Isabella Oliver, sells a pretty cute Red one-shoulder ruched dress that Bethenny Frankel, Sienna Miller, Ali Larter and Brit stars Danielle Lloyd and Myleene Klass others have worn and loved the one shoulder ruched dress in crimson or the Burlington  Maternity dress.

Here’s What You Need to Know About the Evolution Of Sleep

About 200 years ago, humans slept for four hours before waking up a couple hours to take care of business then they went back to sleep for 4 more.

Today, we are among the only 15% of mammals that engage in monophasic sleep habits which means sleeping in one chunk of time.

While biologists do not really know ow e evolved to require long stretches of sleep to function, the team at OnlineMattressReview.com put together the Evolution of Sleep Infographic  to highlight how sleeping has changed over time.

Here are few fun facts from the infographic:

  • Caves, Waterbeds and Memory Foam: Cavemen slept on nests of grass near walls in caves; in the Middle Ages, families all slept in one bed together; it wasn’t until the industrial revolution and electricity that people stayed up later and private bedrooms became standard; and in recent years we’ve discovered waterbeds and memory foam.

  • We Sleep Less as We Age: Newborns need up to 17 hours of sleep while seniors can get by off just seven. Somehow, new parents may disagree with this statistic.

Toya Wright Welcomes Daughter, Reign Ryan

Congrats to Toya Wright on the birth of her second child, daughter Reign Ryan Rushing.

The reality TV star and business owner posted an Instagram announcing the birth on February 8, 2018.

“Reign Ryan Rushing…I’m in Love,” she captioned the post.

Congrats to Wright and her beau sports manager, Robert “Red” Rushing.

Wright is mom to 19-year old daughter Reginae with her ex husband, rapper Lil Wayne.

Solved: Problem to No Live TV on Your Chrome, Firestick or Roku (REVIEW)

Remember, when I shared that my family was cutting the cord and ditching cable television?

It’s been 8 months and counting and all is well. We barely miss it.

The downsides to curb cutting:

One of the things you don’t get to do is channel surf, you know, going up and down the dial looking for a show. Not that many people do that much anyway given a lot of folks binge watch their fave streaming channels or know precisely what they want to watch.

The other thing we missed was local television. We had tried to use a generic antenna to get a signal but recall, we live in a heavily wooded area and the signals couldn’t cut through the trees. It is the same reason why satellite television was not an option or alternative to cable back when we were first considering to cut the cord and exploring options.

Well, about a few months ago, an innovative company that produces this thing called ClearStream TV contacted me and asked me to test it out.

In a nutshell, it is a digital tuner that lets you get picture clear over-the-air television wirelessly. I didn’t think it would work. We had tried the updated versions of TV rabbit ears and just got static and fuzz. Boo!

With ClearStream TV you don’t connect the device to the TV but to the antenna in the back. It works with other modern streaming sticks like Roku, Chromecast, Apple Fire Stick, Apple TV , iOS and Android phones, tablets and other devices! Sweet!

Here is how clear the picture quality is when we set it up in our basement:

To work it , you simply connect the ClearStreamTV Digital tuner to your HDTV antenna and plug in the power adapter. Download a free companion app to the Android or iOS smart phone, tablet or streaming devices.

That’s it! Follow the on-screen instructions (like in this video below) to connect ClearStream TV Digital Tuner to your in home wireless network, use the device remote to scan the available channels and you get to watch all your fave live, network TV shows FREE! No need to get subscriptions like the ones they offer on Amazon Prime or Hulu.

The only thing is that you have to hope you pick up all the best over the air channel. We get all of our local except CBS via our DirectTV NOW subscription (our early solution to get local TV which is important if you have children or commute to work, you need local news)  so we only wanted that channel, the CW and a few others so we were happy with the channels that came up for us.

Antenna Boost in a Wall Frame

Another bonus is a brand new option: a  photo frame that is like an amplified indoor HDTV antenna disguised as a photo frame. You can actually put an 11 x 13 photo in it. Embedded inside the frame is the antenna. It can amplify the feed for over 50 miles.  This means if it is connected to your toddler’s tablet, you can stream his fave PBS show from the nearby park or while playing in the backyard as you garden or grill in the summer. That’s a powerful range. Hang it on the wall and angle it towards the sky.

Before this option, people would have a random black object on their wall that stands out and could look unsightly or not blend in well with the rest of the decor. This eliminates that problem.

Easy To Install

It took us (well my 15-year old son) only 15 minutes to hook up and connect the entire thing! That’s not even the best thing,  because you are essentially turning your  TV antenna into a WiFi antenna, you can pause, rewind and record live TV shows!

Now this is the solution for those who miss Live TV with their Chrome and who didn’t want to invest in another subscription. No need to.

That was the other thing we cannot do with our streaming: record TV and this lets us do it. Well we’re playing around with this function now! I”ll keep you updated.

Even More Cost Saving Than Before

It’s a superb cost-saving means to watch TV for FREE. The tuner retails for $129.00 which is not bad because you don’t have to pay for reoccurring monthly fees as you would Prime, Amazon.  The tuner pays for itself after a year or so when you’re done paying those monthly fees.  It gets great ratings on Amazon by verified purchasers. If you get a splitter, you can connect multiple devices and really make it work for the money, and get your investment to really stretch.

Not Talked About as Much but Kate Middleton is In Her Last Trimester Already

While everyone has been obsessing over Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s pending nuptials and the Jenner-Kardashian baby boom, the Duchess of Cambridge and former Kate Middleton has been busy making her royal duties while 7-months preggers.

That’s right, you could barely tell by how tiny her bump is that Duchess Catherine is well into her third and final trimester and a few weeks away from delivering another Royal baby.

The previously most talked about Royal is an official ambassador to Addiction and was photographed recently attending a charity center that helps adults overcome drug and substance abuse.  Now that her extreme morning sickness has subsided, Kate has been doing a lot of appearances of late.
