Brands are Releasing their Best Father’s Day TV Commercials Now

volkswagen-polo-dad

Father’s Day is around the corner and I have been thoroughly enjoying this year’s commercials centered around dads. We are used to seeing scores of vids about moms for Mother’s Day but I think at times, dads get the short end of the stick.

And to top it off, all the deadbeat dads out there make it hard for the good dads. Now they have to share their day because a lot of people, in social media anyway, like to wish single moms a happy Father’s Day. Further, because of the fathers who have dropped the ball on their responsibility, a lot of the women who they had children with also take the dad to express how their Happy Father’s Day greetings are reserved just for the good dads.

My goodness, there are even Father’s Day cards for single moms too. It was a controversy a few years back too when the Hallmark’s specialty line for African American women released the cards.

During Mother’s Day, you rarely see all the caveats but there are a plenty during Father’s Day. But I don’t want to add to the toxicity. Enjoy these great Father’s Day themed commercials some brands have released.

Mom and Me Fashion is bigger than ever. More and more clothing companies and brands making miniature versions of a dress or outfit for baby. Also, fashion conscious moms who are creative are taking the time to put together mini-me versions of their clothing for their daughter.

If you’re thinking of crafting a miniature look, you don’t have to do the precise design and pattern but can mix it up and have the same impact like wear one shoulder rompers together. You can do horizontal stripes and have baby wear diagonal stripes. Match the cuts versus the color. Like you and your daughter can wear a-line dresses or matching maxi dresses.

Brittney Griner’s Ex & Mom to Couple’s Twin Girls, Glory Johnson is back to Dating Men

glory

We spent a lot of time following the rocky relationship of WNBA‘s Brittney  Griner and ex-wife Glory Johnson. The two got engaged within weeks of having a domestic dispute last April then married a month later. Johnson, got pregnant with twins via artificial insemination only for Griner to file for an annulment before the marriage was even a month old.

Johnson welcomed twin girls Ava Simone and Solei Diem last October, 2015, but Griner denied being their parent.

The Dallas Wings Forward fought back against the Phoenix Mercury star’s claims that she knew nothing about the plans to conceive children. Johnson and won a child support case earlier this year, and Griner was ordered to pay her $40,000 annually.

After all that highly public split, Johnson has moved on and is back to dating men again. Phew!!

She is in a happy relationship with with 30-year-old Christopher Fry, who lives in Seymour, Tennessee – a short distance from her family home in Knoxville, New York Post reports.

Recall in her petition for an annulment last year, Griner claimed Johnson was cheating on her with man. Hmmm. She probably was on to something back then. doh!

Just in time for Father’s Day, Under Armour releases the Chef Curry ‘Dad Shoe’

dad shoe

Our fave sports dad Steph Curry is married to our Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum Ayesha Curry, and is having a great week not just because his Golden State Warriors NBA team are up 3-1 in the NBA Finals.

Also this week, athletic brand Under Armour released its latest permeation of his name brand shoe,  the new Curry 2 Low Chef colorways.

I think they are cute but they were re-branded by the Internet as the dad shoe. The memes and jokes are hilarious! Under Armour should take all this Twitter ribbing as a positive. Father’s Day is just around the corner.

Make lemonade.

And the red older version is cute too and an alternative to the white and grey ones.

Complex Sneaker’s Twitter Account has assembled the best. Here are some of the funny tweets and Memes.

During the event, she wore a black double breasted tuxedo jacket, a black fedora and glittery tights with her fire engine hair peeping under a black fedora. She looked hawt.

The look channeled Jessica Rabbit but is not the first time the “What A Girl Wants” singer donned red hair. In the past, she ditched her signature platinum blonde for a red wig. It worked and really made her blue eyes pop!

Love the blonde but the red is something special.

First Time Parents to Be: The 10 Tasks You’ll Have to Master Before Baby Arrives

baby-499976_640

Even if you have read all the books and been to all the classes, you cannot know exactly what it is like to be a parent until it actually happens. Every new parent encounters surprises and unexpected challenges. And while most of these challenges are easily overcome, they are quite serious given the fact that you now have a young human being’s life, comfort, and happiness in your hands. There is no reason to panic, though. Most new parents hit their stride within a couple of weeks, and the everyday tasks become second nature. But if you are preparing for the arrival of your first, here are ten tasks to be familiar with.

1. Feeding: If your baby will be breastfed, then this task falls largely upon the mother. However, there are numerous small things dad can do. He can bring the baby to the mother during those late night feedings. He can provide comfort and encouragement. He can also talk to the mother and attend to any of her needs while she is feeing. And if you will be feeding your baby formula, then obviously it is a job that mom and dad can share.

2. Bathing: Newborns do not need to be bathed very often as long as they are cleaned well with each diaper change. Since they are not yet crawling around on the floor or eating messy foods, they generally do not get dirty. There are a few ways to bathe newborns, the most popular ways being sponge bathing and bathing in special tubs for infants.

3. Shampooing: Many newborns are initially averse to being shampooed. We are used to it from doing it all our lives, so it is hard to imagine how strange it must feel to a baby. However, if you are gentle and use a tear-free shampoo, your baby should get used to it after just a couple of baths.

4. Burping: There are a few burping positions that tend to help babies get those air bubbles out of their stomachs. Holding the baby to your shoulder, face down on your lap, or sitting up on your knee are all common methods. All involve patting the baby gently on the back, though some babies need a little more firmness. With trial and error, you will find the best burping position for your baby.

5. Changing diapers: For new parents, the diaper-changing process is often the most daunting one, but within a week or two of having your baby you will be able to do it in your sleep (and sometimes this will not be too far from the truth). If you have all the supplies, including clean diapers, cotton balls, soft washcloths, clean clothes, and ointment or powder, the process becomes self-evident. Hopefully your childbirth class will take you through the process once or twice.

6. Dressing the baby: Getting the baby dressed is not quite as easy as one might think, because babies tend to move around, yet we must be gentle with them. That is why it is always a good idea to have loose baby clothes that can be taken off and put on easily.

7. Lifting and holding: When being held, babies like to be comfortable and fully supported. It takes time to adjust to the world outside the womb, so when carrying your baby, think of it this way: Your job is to make the baby warm and comfortable. Remember that her muscles are still undeveloped, and she needs help getting into a natural position.

8. Trimming nails: You will need special nail trimmers for babies. These are easy to find at any baby store or online. Most babies are born with long nails, and the nails grow surprisingly fast. Trim them every couple of days so that she does not accidentally scratch herself.

9. Swaddling: Babies love to be wrapped up tightly in a light blanket. This works for comforting babies who are crying, helping them get to sleep, and keeping them warm on cool days. Find a good set of instructions on swaddling the baby and practice a few times with a blanket and a doll.

10. Going out: Many new parents are surprised by how much anxiety they feel when going out with the baby for the first few times. Whether you are in a car or walking, there is just something strange about being out and about with a little one in tow. You will get used to it, though, and soon you will not think twice about it. Just make sure you have all your supplies on hand, including all your diaper-changing supplies, a change of clothes, a blanket, a pacifier, and baby sunscreen.

Get on it, parents!

Review: This Contraption Could Eliminate Your Low Back Pain and Alleviate Snoring Too

rest rite sleep positioner

Pregnancy comes with all sorts of pains and discomforts. Lower back pain is common. As the baby grows and displaces the weight on the body, mom has to deal with the new and awkward distribution of her weight. As her belly grows, she can no longer sleep comfortably and sleeping on the back could cause more discomfort and pain. The best sleep position is to the side.

I am not preggers but I’ve started to have regular back pain as well from sleeping on my back. I went to a chiropractor and a physical therapist and discovered the problem came from all the pressure on my lower back while asleep. We discovered that sleeping to the side eased the pain and eliminated it altogether.

That is why when I was offered to test out the Rest-Rite sleep positioner, I jumped at the opportunity. I decided to test it out myself. It is a physical object that you affix with a sticky backing to your lower back and it acts as a physical barrier to stop you from rolling on your back.

Affix the disk of the Rest-Rite Sleep Positioner to the lower back before bed

After one day of sleeping with this contraption on my lower back, using adhesives that you use to stick it on the ring, I woke up with no pain at all. Seriously! Just one day did the trick. I literally jumped out of bed! It was so cool. You know? To be able to rise out of bed immediately without having to take a few moments to brace yourself for the pain.

People who suffer with chronic back pain will understand most what I am talking about. And so will moms-to-be dealing with the effects of sciatica and other pregnancy related ailments.

The creators claim that the positioner also helps optimize blood circulation, provides the peace of mind only side sleeping can give you during your pregnancy, better organ health from not having pressure placed upon the kidneys, stomach and large intestines and increased circulation and blood blow which will boost the delivery of nutrients to baby.

And the best thing about it being a physical body and not a pill or topical solution is that it is drug free and has no side effects. Other advantages of side sleeping include open airways, relief of heartburn symptoms, reduced acid reflux and less neck pain.

Apparently, the rings also help with snorers! I snore as well so that’s double great for me. It may work on husbands too. (smile)

Rest-Rite was created by former attorney Jennifer Sparr who needed a solution to back pain during her pregnancies. She had a high risk pregnancy and found pillows didn’t work because they shifted while sleeping, had a rough texture and moved throughout the night.

Necessity is the mother of invention. A box of seven cost $16.00 and a month supply is $59. The only concern is that you can only use one and the plastic may contribute to waste and it could get costly over the course of 40 weeks of a pregnancy. If there was a way to place the ring on clothing and have reusable strip so the rings can be used more than once, it would be more eco-friendly and less costly.

Other than that, it’s the perfect solution to low back pain in my book! I even shared it with my physical therapist so she can consider recommending it to her patients.

Get it at the Rest-Rite website.
