A 60-year old Indiana Woman Welcomed Twins Yesterday

twin-feet

When Claudette Cook of Indiana met her husband Ross at church 10 years ago, doctors told her that they would never have children because of her advanced age, but 10 years later at age 60, she is now a mom to twins.

Claudette and Ross got the go-ahead from an in vitro fertilization specialist last fall to start a family and a year later were successful and welcomed twin sons Isaac and Isaiah on Sunday, October 2.

“Isaac came out first, and Isaiah came out second,” Cook told the local news after she beat all the odds to welcome the fraternal twins.

“I cried. I was like, you know, you look at TV and you see other people in the delivery room and you’re like, oh my goodness. And, it was me. So, joy, it was so sweet,”  ABC News reported she said while holding her husband, Ross’s, hand. “Everything changed in that moment. Once they’re born, your life changes.”

The boys weighed 5 lbs each and arrived via C-Section. The couple gave credit to their tiny miracle to prayer.

“Doors started opening up, and BAM, here they are,” Cook said. “Age is but a number with God. Plus, I was healthy and in shape. I was like, yes, I know I can do this – I know I can. No matter how hard it was, He brought me through it all, so, awesome God.”

WFIE reports that it will be a couple of weeks before they can take their newborns home. The twins are healthy and their mother is doing just fine.

No doubt, this will and has been the subject of lots of water-cooler conversation today. Share your thoughts with us on social!

Maternity Capsule Collections Can Get your Thru Your Entire Pregnancy

Dressing a bump is fun, there’s no doubt. It’s a rare time when our proportions get flipped around and a bulging belly is something to show off rather than disguise.

But that full belly is actually a fairly short blip in the whole process — a process that presents new challenges for dressing with each phase. And don’t forget about after the birth and the possibility of months of nursing.

With that in mind, here are some pieces to get you through the early months, those big-belly days and beyond — when you need all the help you can get.

6 iPhone Apps to Get You Thru Bedrest

getty bedrest2

Nothing frees up your time like being told you have to stay on bed rest for the remainder of your pregnancy, and if you don’t have enough distractions you can quickly find yourself bored out of your mind. Of course you can play your favorite games like Words with Friends or Wheel of Fortune, but after a while even those will lose their luster, and you’ll need something else to occupy your hours.

Here are 6 iPhone applications that will help take up some time and answer any questions you may have regarding concerns about the baby that may pop into your head while you are lying in bed.  There’s an app for everything from saving for college to listening to the baby’s heartbeat:

1. CollegeSave This application allows you to do the calculations to determine how much per month you will need to save in order to pay for your child’s college tuition.  If you start early then you will have the advantage of compounding interest and you won’t have to put as much away each month versus starting when your child is 10.

2. Soundhound Ever been bored and start humming a song and wish you knew what the song was?  With this application you can hum a few bars and it will use its vast library of over a million tunes to identify the song.  Want to come up with a bunch of lullabies for your baby?  This application can help with that.

3. iPregnancy  Want to know what’s going on inside your body at this very moment?  iPregnancy tells you how big the baby should be, what’s going on physically with the baby, keeps track of appointments and has a great baby name function to help you figure out what you are going to name your little peanut when the time comes.

4. ZipList  You may be on bed rest, but the rest of the family still needs to eat.  Don’t feel like you have to rely on your partner to handle everything with this application.  Now you can look up recipes, create a grocery list, sort the items on the list by aisle in the store, and then text everything to someone else to run to the store for you.  If your family runs out of anything they can scan the barcode using this application and it will automatically be added to the list.

5. My Baby’s Beat With this application you can actually use the microphone on your iPhone to hear your baby’s heart beat and your own.  You can record the heart beat and e-mail it to

6. After Baby is born: BabyTimer  This application allows you to keep track of the number of wet and dirty diapers your baby has each day.  It also keeps track of feedings so that you can report all of this information back to your pediatrician.

Good luck moms!

Study: Exercise During Pregnancy Lessens C-Section Risk

exercise pregnancy

A new Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology confirm the importance of exercise while pregnant to reduce risk of having a pre-term baby or other complications.

Researchers looked at data from over 2,000 pregnant women and compared those who exercised and those who did not  The women who exercised were more likely to deliver vaginally—as opposed to having a C-section—and less likely to have gestational diabetes and high blood pressure.

The key is to maintain your current level of activity, not increase it, according to the American Academy of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

The Academy recommends that all women who have no complications with their pregnancies get “30 minutes or more of moderate exercise a day on most, if not all, days of the week.”

Women can  do what they want but should avoid exercise that can risk abdominal trauma (like horseback riding or skiing).

They should tell their docs of their exercise plans and stop and tel their doc  if they experience any pain, discomfort, or have any worries.

We’re Loving Angela Simmons’ Bikini and Maternity Style (PHOTOS)

Angela Simmons has been babymooning in the islands and on a boat with her mystery fiance. She shared a trio of bikini pics recently on her Instagram account that reveal her growing baby belly.

Simmons is expecting her first child with a person she has yet to reveal to the public. But she did reveal back in May that she expecting a boy.

“I can’t wait to kiss your little toes baby boy,” she captioned an Instagram photo of an ultrasound.

Before confirming the pregnancy, Angela hid her bump and dodged rumors  and since then has been showing it off more.

She is aunt to her sister Vanessa Simmons‘ daughter with her beau Michael Wayans and her brother JoJo Simmons’ first born child with his girlfriend. Vanessa gave birth to her first child, daughter Ava Marie Jean, in 2014 and younger brother JoJo just became a father earlier this year with his girlfriend, Tanice Amira.

We enjoyed bumpwatching Vanessa but I must admit Angela is so much more fun because she posts often in social media and her maternity fashion game is on fleek. Check it out. And this is just the early second trimester.

Angela Simmons Style

This sheer top with embellished adornments and black pencil skirt paired with cute black pumps is a super cute look. I love the slimming effect of the slim skirt. She went with the glam waves to the side for a bombshell look.

In another sheer and denim mini dress with a slight slit in the front with these nude Louboutins is adorbs. I love her plum lipstick and baby blue nails.

The off-the-shoulder shirt is trending this season. She could still wear distressed jeans in a non-maternity style in this pic even though she is a bit advanced in her pregnancy. Lucky girl.

The crimson medicine bag captures your attention but this black bump-hugging t-shirt dress is boss. Tossing the fatigues army shirt jacket over this dress makes this outfit set off and tres cute. And the Dwayne Wayne (A Different’ World character referenceshades rock. The blue sneakers give this look a sporty yet casual vice.

Simply chic and elegant. I love the mauve pumps too.

This layered tent top is perfect and I am lusting after those black and white pumps. Cute.

This striped dress with a cropped top revealing her bump is fab.

This track suit with the big floral print is so unexpected and are those Converse wedges on her feet?

Another fatigues print dress. Digging her sandals too. And all this is just the second trimester! Follow Angela on Instagram HERE! She announced plans to open up a retail store in Brooklyn for her previously online-only  boutique Angela I Am.
