Redskins Quarterback Kirk Cousins and Wife Welcome Son, Cooper

I’m not following professional football this season but as a life long Redskins fan, I was on Bumpwatch over Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins and his wife, Julie!

The newlyweds welcomed their first child Friday night son, Cooper. I love that name!!

The newest arrivals was overdue– joining the world 11 days after mom Julia’s due date.

He weighed a healthy 9 pounds, 11 ounces.

“It’s a special experience,” Cousins  said reading. “I texted the coaches afterwards and said, ‘That was a top experience of my life so far.’ That says it all.”

Cousins missed practice on Friday when Julie went into labor!

Congrats!

Study: Being Popular Causes Kids to Be Mean to Others

Mean kids, mothers tell their wounded young, behave that way because they have unhappy home lives, or feel inadequate, or don’t have enough friends or because they somehow lack empathy. But a new study suggests some mean kids actually behave that way simply because they can.

Contrary to accepted ruffian-scholarship, the more popular a middle- or high-school kid becomes, the more central to the social network of the school, the more aggressive the behavior he or she engages in. At least, that was the case in North Carolina, where students from 19 middle and high schools were studied for 4.5 years by researchers at the University of California-Davis.

Authors Robert Faris and Diane Felmlee interviewed public-school kids seven times over the course of their study, starting when the students were in grades 6, 7 and 8. They asked the students to name their friends and used the data to create friendship maps. They then asked the kids who was unkind to them and whom they picked on, and mapped out the pathways of aggression.

What they found was that only one-third of the students engaged in any bullying at all — physical force, taunts or gossip-spreading — but those who were moving up the school popularity chain bullied more as they went higher. Only when kids reached the very top 2% of the school’s social hierarchy or fell into the bottom 2% did their behavior change; these kids were the least aggressive.

“Seemingly normal well-adjusted kids can be aggressive,” says Faris, whose results are published in the new issue of the American Sociological Review. “We found that status increases aggression.”

While the authors are not ruling out psychological or background influences as underlying causes of the bullying, they believe that popularity is at least as important. “It’s one of the few times I can recall in social sciences where race and family background seem to make very little difference,” says Faris. “Those demographic and socioeconomic factors don’t seem to matter as much as where the kids are in the school hierarchy.”

Faris also found that the more kids cared about popularity, the more aggressive they were. Ironically, that’s pointless; hostile behavior did not cause rises in status. “The evidence suggests that overall aggression does not increase status,” he says. Then again, it’s not whether it works that’s important. It’s whether the kids believe it works.

Another stereotype the study jabbed at was that males and females bully differently. Boys spread gossip only marginally less often than girls did. And girls were negligibly less physically violent to each other than boys were. Gender-on-gender bullying was more prevalent among girls than boys, but boys were more likely to be hostile toward girls than the other way around.

Gender wasn’t entirely a neutral factor, however. If a girl knew a lot of boys, or a boy knew a lot of girls at a school where there wasn’t much intermingling of the sexes, those kids’ status would go up, presumably because they provided a bridge to contact with potential dates. And, yep, the “gender-bridge” kids, as the study called them, seemed to be more aggressive than others.

I love How ‘This Is Us’ predicted The Kardashian-Jenner Baby Boom

Can we talk about how the NBC show This Is Us predicting the Kardashian-Jenner baby boom per several outlets like TV Guide, E! , PEOPLE magazine, and US Weekly?

In the premiere episode of the hit show, one of the triplets, Kevin Pearson (Justin Hartley), tells his Kardashians-loving ex-wife Sophie (Alexandra Breckenridge) who he is now re-courting that he planned to take her to a cafe the Kardashians frequent.

Sophie squeals in disappointment because she has to cancel the trip to meet Kev who has since relocated from New York back to California to work on a Ron Howard film. Her mom is ill.

To make Sophie feel better, Kev tells her, “”Well, listen, the Kardashians aren’t going anywhere, I promise. They’re like gremlins. By next week, there will be like a bazillion more of them.”

Now we don’t like to compare adorable babies and children to gremlins but we must admit the remark was quite prolific!

Rob Kardashian just had a baby, daughter 10-month old Dream, with ex-fiancé ReneeBlac ChynaWhite.

Meanwhile, in a teaser for the  upcoming season of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Kim KardashianWest reveals that she is expecting a third child.

Meanwhile, multiple sources close to the family confirmed to PEOPLE on Friday that Kylie Jenner is expecting a baby girl, due in February, with her boyfriend Travis Scott.

Days after Kylie’s news broke, sources confirmed to PEOPLE that Khloé Kardashian is also expecting a baby, her first child with her boyfriend, NBA star Tristan Thompson.

Kev was right!! LOL!

Why It’s Worth Fighting For Short Hair With Your Little Guy

It’s an argument that has passed from household to household from generation to generation.

If you have little boys in the home, then there’s a good chance one of them is going to want long hair. There’s nothing wrong with that, but if you’re a mom who already has very little time on her hands, you will find that it can end up being quite the handful! Here are a few reasons why short-hair might be a smarter choice and worth putting your foot down for.

It looks good

This isn’t to say that long hair can’t look good. But when they’re younger, boys don’t care quite as much about keeping a perfectly controlled coiffure. They’re going to come home from school a lot more often with it all over the place. Kids will be messy and there’s little you can do to get in the way of that besides sending them on in pristine (or near pristine) condition and hoping for the best when they come back. Short doesn’t have to mean short on style, either. If your son is a little on the trendier side, there are plenty of great short haircuts that can help him look his best.

It’s so much easier to deal with

Everyone’s hair has its own characteristics, to put it politely. To put it bluntly, if your son has hair that’s hard to control, keeping it long is going to make it even more so.  For instance, if your son has a cowlick, keeping it short is one of the best ways to stay in control of it. You can read more about cowlick treatment and find more ways to calm it, but he might not be as pleased to have his hair permed and keeping it gelled is a little more effort adding up each day. If his hair has any unruly characteristics, then having less hair to have to calm down is as solid a tactic as you’re going to get.

You can do it yourself

If you’re a mom with more than one kid on her plate, the value of both time and money becomes very apparent. With short hair, it’s a lot easier to save yourself both if you’re willing to pick up a pair of clippers yourself. There are some fantastic tutorials on clipping boys’ hair to make sure that you don’t just go in scissors waving, too. You might have to buy a clipper and tripper, but it can take as little as ten minutes compared to the length of the trip and the wait you’ll get at the hairdressers and it can save you literally hundreds of dollars a year if you have more than one boy in the family.

Short hair is, simply put, a lot easier to maintain, to keep looking good, and can even save you some money if you don’t mind getting hands-on. When they’re old enough to be entirely responsible for it, then by all means, let them style as their hearts desire. For now, you can save yourself a lot of trouble by sticking to short.

It’s Baby 3 for Duchess Kate and Prince William

It’s baby number 3 for Princess Kate and Prince William!

Kensington Palace confirmed today that the royal family are expecting a third child.

“Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting their third child,” a statement from Kensington Palace, released Monday morning, said.

The former Kate Middleton is not yet three months along but is experiencing the same extreme morning sickness as she experienced when she was pregnant with Princess Charlotte and therefore would have to skip out on making appearances, hence the decision to come out with the news earlier than normal.

“As with her previous two pregnancies, The Duchess is suffering from Hyperemesis Gravidarum. Her Royal Highness will no longer carry out her planned engagement at the Hornsey Road Children’s Centre in London today,” the statement said. “The Duchess is being cared for at Kensington Palace.”

The royals are already parents to 4-year-old Prince George and 2-year-old Princess Charlotte.

Guide to Online Games Moms Play the Most

A lot of women complain about their husbands who are addicted to video games, even as full grown adult men with children, but the same can be true of many women, including moms, of online games!

Mobile Games company, Wild Tangent, released a study not long ago showing that 80% of mothers played online games at least once a week and that 68% of expectant mothers were playing games multiple times throughout the day.

And if you are on Facebook, you may have gotten more than one request from a female friend to play one of the many games on here. You’re not alone if you are that gaming mom.

Then, consider that more and more resort communities include spas and casinos targeting women, some are coming away drawn to slot games and getting addicted to those too and taking advantage of free spins from New Zealand casinos.

It coincides with a boom in the  online casino games industry which has an estimated  market value of  47 billion in 2017, according to Stastia. Personally, I’m hooked on the World Series of Poker though I don’t even really know the game well! I’m intrigued by all the glitz surrounding it! Ha!

Working Woman did a rundown of the most popular online games that a lot of women play.

Bakery Story is your typical, yet fun and addictive, online game where you are tasked to build, manage and renovate your own bakery store. Even though the most compelling reason to continue playing this game is to upgrade and redesign your bakery, there is an element of strategy and ensuring that your virtual store runs efficiently. Like most mobile based game, Bakery Story does involve some waiting time. Players must wait a certain amount of time for each item to become ready. However, should a player forget or not return to the game quick enough, the food and refreshments that were made, will spoil.

Alongside the main features of the game, Bakery Story also allows you to connect with the friends you have on social media. This online feature is key to players’ progress and, the more friends you have playing with you, the more rewards and unique items become available.

With both online features and the time management aspect of the game, this strategic,  game is perfect for any mother with a bit of free time on their hands as it demands little concentration and you have the option to leave and come back to the game, even after only a short period of play time.

Farm Heroes Saga

From the well renowned creators of Candy Crush Saga, King have also released Farm Heroes Saga. Originally for Facebook, the mobile giants shortly released Farm Heroes Saga for mobile and tablet devices after the booming success of Candy Crush.

The formula is as straightforward as King’s other games, create lines of uniform color, earn points for each row of 3 or more vegetables and fruit, and work your way through the levels, each increasing in difficulty and new features.

However, with a maximum of 5 lives and long waiting times for lives to replenish, Farm Heroes Saga will be able one of the less time consuming games in this list.

Words with Friends

Probably the most online and interactive game in this article, Words with Friends is the online, mobile adaptation of the famous board game, Scrabble. By inviting friends through social media platforms such as Facebook, players are able to challenge their friends and strangers, who are also playing the game, to test their vocabulary.

This increasingly popular game requires concentration, skill and strategic thinking, but allows players to leave once their turn has finished. There is no time limit, no penalties for making your opponents wait that little bit longer and you can run multiple games, against multiple friends, at the same time; ideal for anyone who runs an active lifestyle.

Snakes and Ladders by MOBIRIX

The classic board game, Snakes and Ladders, has been brought to life by mobile game developers MOBIRIX, allowing players to experience a variety of different modes, from single player, multiplayer and even an arcade mode with various tweaks and spin off versions of the original board game.

This beautifully simplistic game allows both adults and children to play and, with online features, friends are able to challenge one another at anytime and from anywhere.

Episode

Adventure games that adapt to the choices you make are becoming hugely popular, with companies such as TellTale Games are creating immersive stories that alter as you progress through the game.

Episode is exactly that, a ‘choose your own adventure’ game with multiple stories that adapt to the choices you make. After you have designed your character, you will be given the opportunity to dictate what happens throughout their story.

There are multiple storylines to choose from and the game includes a unique feature that allows players to write their own adventure and share it, online, with the game’s community. This online feature allows the game to continue, even once players have finished the main storylines available.

There you have it a rundown on the appeal of all those games your friends keep asking you to sign up for!
