With Divorce Final, RHOM’s Joanna Krupa Is Happy She Froze Her Eggs

Of all the Housewives of Miami stars, I think Joanna Krupa, who had a career as a model and appeared on Dancing With the Stars before that short lived franchise has parlayed her stint on that show into more fame in the US.

She is a paparazzi magnet here!

Back home in her native Poland, the former Playboy cover model is well known on TV as the head judge in that country’s version of Top Model, and has been since 2010.

But we remember her discussing baby plans with her husband while on the show Romain Zago. Sadly, the two have split up and their divorce just finalized last month. They did not welcome any children in their 4-year marriage, though Kruppa has said she would like to become a mother someday.

The blonde-haired, blue-eyed beauty, knowing she is getting up there in age, preserved her eggs for the future.

“Thank goodness I froze my eggs,’ the Playboy vet told told Life & Style Magazine: “I would honestly be freaking out right now if I didn’t.”

She isn’t alone; Sofia Vergara, Naomi Campbell, and many others have too. Singer Sophie B. Hawkins welcomed her second child at age 50 using eggs she froze when she was 30!

The Cost-Saving School Supplies Shopping Tips Mega Families Use

The family-owned Atlanta-based wholesale t-shirt company, The Adair Group has a very comprehensive post with cost-cutting back-to-school savings advice that those very large families, like the Duggars, with over 8 children use. They were so kind to let me syndicate a snippet of their post where they talk about school supply shopping. In light of the recent gun battle at a Michigan Walmart recently, it may behoove you to check out these awesome tips:

Today, even public schools require you to purchase many items that in the past were provided.

Pens and pencils, rulers, calculators, and textbooks—children need all sorts of supplies before heading back to school. Organizing this can be a fun task for some families, and a way to start preparing and anticipating that first day back at school.

Renee from the Little Earthling Blog, another mega family favorite resource, suggests the following tips and tricks that she uses when dealing with her family of 14.

  • Make a list of what each child needs and stick to it. That way you will not forget any essentials, and your children are unable to sneak extras into the cart.
  • Shop at home first. Go through your children’s rooms, through the office and through every other space where there might be pens or pads of paper. Everything you find is one less thing to buy.
  • Try dollar stores for the small items like pens and pencils. These stores can be a cheap and easy way to get most of the basics your children will need.
  • school supplies wooden background
Take notice of back-to-school sales and shop at a variety of different stores, making sure to buy everything you need at the cheapest price you can manage.
  • Buy more specific items first, for example, a model of calculator or a new backpack. Generic supplies typically drop in price late in the season, so plan to buy paper, pencils, etc. then.
  • A tip that might not be possible is to leave the children at home. The last thing you need is for your children to follow you around and try to influence your choices.

Some more tips mega families use that might help you cost cut at this time of the year are:

  • Use a price comparison app such as Dealnews. Many retailers will honor competitors’ coupons too.
  • Buy enough school supplies for the year when they go on sale in the late summer. If you find you have too many, they will always last for another year, or you can share them with friends who are in the same situation as you.
  • Buy in bulk from wholesale stores and split the cost with friends, and skip the office supply stores.
  • Shop online for used textbooks. In some cases, it may be less costly to rent textbooks instead of buying them. Consider electronic copies, as these are often cheaper.
  • You can also rent calculators. Some schools have rental programs, but if yours doesn’t, try graphtor.com, which rents various models of Texas Instruments calculators for a low monthly fee.
  • Buy refurbished electronics especially for younger children who are prone to dropping them.
  • Some stores provide discounts on electronics for college and high school students. Check out the Apple Education Pricing page or Best Buy’s College Student Deals.
  • If you are looking for activities to entertain the children this summer, have them make their own school supplies. Get directions on craftchi.com on how to create a pencil case out of a mailing tube.

Why People On The Internet Are All Up In Joy-Ann Duggar’s Uterus

The Duggar family continues to grow as 19-year old Joy-Anna Duggar  and her recently wedded husband Austin Forsyth are expecting their first child. But Internet sleuths are commenting on the size of Joy-Anna’s bump and suggesting it is further along than 3-4 months along, the period of time that has lapsed since their May wedding.

Radar Online even went as far as get a medical professional to report that she is more likely 4-5 months along even though that was personal doctor and he did not examine her.

The uproar is likely because the Duggar family adhere to strict Christian values which proscribe to the tenet of no fornication before marriage.

As we know, every pregnancy is different and you certainly cannot say definitively by looking at a person based on the size of their bump through their clothing.

Joy-Anna has remained mum on the baby’s due date, not that we are entitled to know when she will give birth.

Congrats to them!

Scientists Discover Pregnant Women Have an Immune System Clock

Scientists at the Stanford University School of Medicine have completed the first-ever characterization of the meticulously timed immune system changes in women that occur during pregnancy.

The findings, which will be published Sept. 1 in Science Immunology, reveal that there is an immune clock of pregnancy and suggest it may help doctors predict preterm birth.

“Pregnancy is a unique immunological state. We found that the timing of immune system changes follows a precise and predictable pattern in normal pregnancy,” said the study’s senior author, Brice Gaudilliere, MD, PhD, assistant professor of anesthesiology, perioperative and pain medicine.

Although physicians have long known that the expectant mother’s immune system adjusts to prevent her body from rejecting the fetus, no one had investigated the full scope of these changes, nor asked if their timing was tightly controlled. “Ultimately, we want to be able to ask, ‘Does your immune clock of pregnancy run too slow or too fast?'” said Gaudilliere.

The new research comes from the March of Dimes Prematurity Research Center at Stanford University, which aims to understand why preterm births happen and how they could be prevented. Nearly 10 percent of U.S. infants are born prematurely, arriving three or more weeks early, but physicians lack a reliable way to predict premature deliveries.

“It’s really exciting that an immunological clock of pregnancy exists,” said the study’s lead author, Nima Aghaeepour, PhD, instructor in anesthesiology, perioperative and pain medicine. “Now that we have a reference for normal development of the immune system throughout pregnancy, we can use that as a baseline for future studies to understand when someone’s immune system is not adapting to pregnancy the way we would expect.”

Your Guide to Upsizing When You Outgrow Family Home

The family home is a place where lifelong memories are made. It’s where you seek refuge after a hard day’s work, it’s where you raise your kids and love your partner. But there comes a time when your treasured family home begins to lose its luster and stops feeling like the home it should.

While you should never underestimate the effect of a deep clean and a lick of paint here and there can have in making an old home feel like new, there may be circumstances under which renovation or remodelling just doesn’t cut it.

Only you know if it’s the right time to move your family to a larger property, but these are some scenarios in which families find themselves needing to upsize that indicate that your home may no longer be fit for purpose.

Your family’s about to grow. A new baby needs a space dedicated solely to them to grow, often necessitating a move. If this isn’t your first child, it’s important to note that while siblings can share a room, it’s generally better for their development to have a room to make their own.

You need to accommodate another adult- Perhaps you need to bring an elderly relative into the home so that you can care for them while giving them dignity and privacy. This can rarely be done in smaller homes.

Your income is growing- Maybe you bought your current home when you and your partner were at the start of your career. After a few promotions and some growth in your household income, it may be that you can comfortably afford a new home.

You’re working from home- Telecommuting is on the rise, and if you’re joining their ranks you’ll find you’re far more productive if you can do some from your own home office.

Preparation is the key

Whether you’re upsizing because you’ve outgrown your current home or buying your first family home with your partner, the financial considerations are fairly similar. In both cases it’s important to plan the move meticulously before you commit yourself financially to the new property. Keep in mind that if you’re currently in a chain, it may take a while to sell your property before your dream home becomes available. In this instance you may need to keep your stuff in safe and secure storage facilities and let your property out for a while if you are unable to sell straight away.

Consider the costs carefully

When one’s financial situation improves, it’s easy to get a little overconfident in our ability to manage the financial commitments that will come with a bigger home.

Of course, your mortgage will be your prime concern, and it’s important to know what your current equity on your home, along with any savings, can afford you. A mortgage calculator can give you a rough idea of what you can expect your monthly payments to be, but remember that your tax, utilities and insurance bills will likely increase to match your new property’s size. Factor these in to get a realistic picture of your monthly outgoings, as well as the inevitable fees that come with the move itself.

Moms Gun Brawl Over Last School Supplies in Walmart

Who could  imagine that school supply shopping could turn violent, but it did at a Walmart in Michigan this Monday and it was over the last notebook in the store.

Novi Police Department Det. Scott Baetens told the Detroit Free Press  newspaper that police have reviewed video footage of the incident recorded on a witness’ cell phone, and that they have submitted the case to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office for review, WCRZ-FM reports

A mother and daughter duo from South Lyon, Michigan and a mom and daughter pair from Farmington Hills, Michgan were shopping  for school supplies when the two daughters grabbed the last notebook at the same time, leading to an argument among the four women as to who should rightfully get the last one.

“One girl was going to buy a notebook, there was one left, some pushing resulted,” Baetens was quoted saying in a Fox2News report. “They began to argue who was the rightful purchaser of that notebook.”

Police say the Farmington Hills women pulled the South Lyon daughter’s hair and the South Lyon mother, who has a license to carry a gun, pulled it out and tried to stop the attack on her daughter.

Other customers scrambled.

“She pulled out her firearm and tells them to stop attacking her daughter while pointing the gun at them,” Baetens was quoted in a Fox2Detroit report.

The mother is a valid Concealed Pistol License holder, and police are not releasing what kind of gun was in her possession, Baetens told the Free Press. He said the names of the individuals involved will not be released at this time.

Baetens told the Free Press that he believes the South Lyon women purchased the notebook, but he does not have the receipt.
