10 celebrities who enjoyed sponsored baby showers

Danielle Jonas and her husband Kevin celebrated a baby shower thrown by Fit Pregnancy magazine. The couple were featured in the magazine’s latest issue. This was their second baby shower. Earlier last month, the stars of  Married to Jonas shared the bounty of presents they scored at an initial baby shower thrown by family and friends.
It is not uncommon for moms and dads-to-be to receive multiple baby showers. Often times, a family member or close friend will host one for close ties, the workplace will throw a work shower and if there is family in a remote location, there will be a shower thrown there so those back home can also celebrate and shower the new parents.
For celebrities, often times brands and media organizations will also host a shower as the case with the Jonases. Below are pics from other brand-hosted showers thrown for celebrity moms-to-be:

Burt’s Bees was among the sponsors of Kourtney Kardashian’s baby shower when she was pregnant with daughter Penelope.

Le Bebe CoCo  was among Kristin Cavallari‘s baby shower sponsors

And  also Holly Madison‘s who donated her gifts to the charity Baby2Baby.

Target hosted Beverley Mitchell’s baby shower.

The Sopranos Jamie Lyn-Sigler donated some of her baby shower finds to the Baby Buggy charity.

Several liquor companies provided the libations for cocktails served up at Love and Hip Hop’s  Yandy Smith‘s baby shower.

Jaime King enjoyed some fab brand goodies at her shower.
Ecoya‘s Sweet Pea & Jasmine home fragrance collection, a pink Quinny Buzz Special Edition stroller, a mamaRoo baby swing, a pink Hoppop Bath tub, a pink Little Giraffe Luxe Blanket, a Timi and Leslie diaper bag and a 5 ft. custom-made giraffe by Melissa and Doug all contributed to Victoria Beckham‘s baby shower.

Belly Bandit sponsored Jewel’s baby shower.

Kelly Rowland is not the first celebrity to work out intensely while pregnant

Just saw on The Wendy Williams Show mention that Kelly Rowland is apparently catching a lot of flak from fans on the Internet over her Instagram pics showing that the Destiny’s Child band member and chart topping solo artist has been having an active pregnancy which includes working out regularly.

Unfortunately, many of her critics must be unaware that maintaining an active lifestyle including regular exercise is actually recommended by doctors so long as it is done in moderation, is balanced with hydration and a healthy diet and is keeping with the type of activity the mom-to-be had before she got pregnant. In other words, inactive cubicle hermits shouldn’t be doing what she is doing to stay fit while pregnant but a globe-trotting performer who dances regularly can. Furthermore,  she is not the only physically active and currently pregnant celebrity. MTV’s Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, who is expecting her second child currently with fiance Jionni LaValle,  frequenlty shares photos from the gym during this second pregnancy.
Also,  former WWE wrestler Stacy Keibler, who also known for being the long time ex girlfriend of George Clooney has been on several fitness magazines and done many interviews where she shares all of her work out secrets. She does Pilates 4 times a day and for the “Making of” video for her Fit Pregnancy cover shoot, she explained that she has been working out most days of her pregnancy doing  muscle toning work outs sometimes four times a day, playing tennis, hiking, golfing and meditating. Her trainer noted  in that Daily Mail article that said Keibler doesn’t eat junk food and eats clean. During her recent baby shower, hosts provided guests healthy  sugar-, dairy- and gluten-free foods. Again, it’s all about the type of woman she was before pregnancy. It doesn’t change after pregnancy and  just because you didn’t used to see it in social media doesn’t mean Rowland wasn’t a work out fiend before.
Other celebrities like Married to Jonas star  Danielle Jonas, who recently welcomed her first child with husband Kevin Jonas, Instagrammed themselves working out often during their respective pregnancies and didn’t seem to get much push-back.
Alec Baldwin‘s Pilates Instructor wife Hilaria Baldwin,  Kristin Cavallari, Teresa Palmer and international model Doutzen Kroes all Instagrammed themselves working out during their pregnancies. (see above collage)

We are very proud of our Bellyitch Bumpwatch alums Ivanka Trump, Daphne Oz, Kristin Cavallari, Danielle Jonas, Emily Deschanel, Molly Sims for their Fit Pregnancy  magazine covers and hope to see one of Kelly soon!

Pregnant Celebrities who don’t share bump progression pics accused of faking it: The Jwoww Case Study

So this week, Jersey Shore  reality TV star of the longtime MTV hit, Jenni “JWoww” Farley teased some of her 3.58 million Twitter followers on an upcoming bump photo. Since the Snooki and Jwoww star announced her pregnancy with fiance Roger Matthews last December, she is yet to share an all-out baby bump photo.
Interestingly enough, the comments to the post she linked with details about a teal one-shoulder Rissa of LaBling dress she wore October 2013 on Chelsea Handler‘s talk show this week piqued accusations that she isn’t really pregnant at all.
“Maybe she is not carrying the baby?? Maybe she has a surrogate?” one named Chloe questioned.
“I bet she faking a preg I think she adopting a baby!!” another named Joan added.
And thus the convo diverted to commentary about whether she is pretending to be pregnant as a publicity stunt.
Recall Danielle Jonas and Kevin Jonas‘ first pregnancy was similarly dogged by similar rumors and infamously Beyonce as well.
One might notice that a sure sign a celebrity woman is pregnant is when she ordinarily posts non-stop selfies of her full body on social media but suddenly shares only face pics. It could be she is uncomfortable with her changing body and not yet figured out how to dress her bump or she is just keeping the news under wraps until the critical first trimester passes.
It may very well be that Jwoww didn’t wait the three months and shared the news immediately and thus has not really started to show much.
The speculation is unwarranted even if she is farther along because many women don’t show until well into their second trimester and others do a great job in hiding the bump under baggy or loose clothing.
This incident may reveal a new disturbing trend among baby bumpwatch fans and followers of celebrities who announce their pregnancy. If they don’t reveal a bump or show a “normal” progression, they may be dogged by fake pregnancy rumors.

Herbal Essences Faces Backlash Over #PregnantWomenCan Campaign

Beauty brand Herbal Essences had great intentions when it  partnered with over 100 influencers, including the brand’s celebrity hairstylist Bridget Brager, Laura Reynoso of Spanglish Fashion, and Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott. They countered a prevailing notion that pregnant women are fragile beings and thus, the campaigned asked them to share the amazing things they were able to accomplish while pregnant.

With partnership with Wakefield Research, Herbal Essence sought to uncover what types of unsolicited advice pregnant women get while expecting. More than 60 percent were advised not to exercise when they were carrying, even though exercise is totally safe for most pregnant women, and 59 percent said they were told not to eat the same foods. And nearly 50 percent were told not to complete the same household chores

To prove that pregnancy doesn’t mean slowing down necessarily, the brand released a vide that highlights what real women were able to accomplish while pregnant despite often hearing that they “can’t.” In it,  pregnant women are seen working, lifting, dancing, surfing, performing, and more.

Problem: a lot of the activities are not necessarily safe for the babies in the pregnant women’s belly, hence the backlash in social media and among online viewers of the video.

“Just stop. Pregnant women can do most of those things, but shouldn’t,” one commenter wrote in the YouTube comment section to the campaign ad. “They are weaker than their average self, and shouldn’t risk their child’s life just for some dumb movement. Its like these people who text in drive. They are like ‘im a good driver, so i won’t get into an accident’ but end up doing so.”

Another replied, “do exercise, yes, but don’t overdo yourself. You still need energy to have your child.”

Some spoke about how their jobs actually required them to take it easy.

“When I was pregnant I worked as a CNA, and when I informed my charge nurse I was pregnant, she put me on light work,” one commenter said. “I had to take it easy, needed 2 people at all times to do any sort of heavy lifting, etc. Then when I was around 32 weeks along they wouldn’t let me work anymore, FOR THE BABIES SAFETY”

And one totally relatable: “What kind of a woman surfs when she is pregnant? Completely irresponsible.”

The advise from random people may be off base, but recommendations from physicians and medical institutions should be given more weight. For example, the Mayo Clinic suggests pregnant women consider avoiding:

  • Any exercises that force you to lie flat on your back after your first trimester
  • Scuba diving, which could put your baby at risk of decompression sickness
  • Contact sports, such as ice hockey, soccer, basketball and volleyball
  • Activities that pose a high risk of falling — such as downhill skiing, in-line skating, gymnastics, and horseback riding
  • Activities that could cause you to hit water with great force, such as water skiing, surfing and diving
  • Exercise at high altitude
  • Activities that could cause you to experience direct trauma to the abdomen, such as kickboxing
  • Hot yoga or hot Pilates
If you do exercise at a high altitude, make sure you know the signs and symptoms of altitude sickness, such as headache and nausea. We’ve covered pregnant women who have faced backlash for weightlifting, running marathons, ice skating, or just exercising a lot, as a lot of celebs who do so are shamed online about.

We haven’t heard from any response from Herbal Essences to their well-meaning campaign.  Maybe they’ll just let it blow over.

Celebrity Social Media Pregnancy Announcements Guide…More

I saw that Yahoo! Celebrity did a post sharing some of the best celebrity pregnancy announcements.
I thought it was cute how the site pointed out the 5 different ways that celebrity women have used social media to announce their respective pregnancies as opposed to going the traditional route of having a publicist send it to US Weekly or PEOPLE magazine:
1. bun in oven; 2. Use a younger sibling to make the announcement; 3. letting the bump do the talking; 4. Just get to the point and make it direct; and 5. through a beautiful silhouette on a personal website.
Here are some other celeb announcements styles that Yahoo! Missed!

The Ultrasound shared in social media is also a very common but still cute announcement that several celebrities have used like Danielle and Nick Jonas, for example.
The Spaghetti Prego announcement like NFL’s Torrey Smith and his wife.  At this point, it’s becoming a bit cliche though given how many people in Pinterest have used that announcement format.

The younger kid making an announcement using a chalkboard like Miami Heat’s Chris Bosh  of the NBA and his wife, Adrienne, who used their son Jackson  to announce his sister.

Showing the pregnancy test stick is also a trend like how Tamera Mowry-Housley and Busy Phillips did.
But one of the still most popular way is the cupping the belly red carpet reveal like with Beyonce, Amber Rose, Marion Cotillard, and Gwen Stefani.
