Critics’ Choice Awards Red Carpet with Celeb Mamas

Posted on January 17, 2014 January 17, 2014
Gossip Girl narrator and Veronica Mars star Kristen Bell looked AMAZING in a black halter Pamella Roland gown.
Celeb moms we’ve “bumpwatched” in the past and others rocked shades of red and black last night at the Critics’ Choice Awards at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, Thursday, January 15. We noted another trend was that they went with smaller and/or lesser known designers, generally. Kudos!
Go mamas!
We are loving Sandra Bullock‘s ruffled magenta Lanvin dress thought not with flat hair. More volume needed.
Matthew McConaughey walked away with the Best Actor award & appeared with wife model Camila Alves in a crimson Paule Ka dress.

Breast Cancer survivor and Anchorman2 actress Christina Applegate went with a  Notte by Marchesa. meh.

Julia Roberts rocked shades while looking cool & chic in her Juan Carlos Obando dress.

Wowza! is all we can say about the Old Hollywood glam American Hustle  actress Elisabeth Rohm  is giving us in this Carmen Marc Valvo floor length fitted open knit dress.

15 Celeb Moms Celebrating Mother’s Day First Time

Posted on May 14, 2018 May 14, 2018

There were a lot of celebrity births over the past year which means yesterday, plenty of celebrity women we’ve “bumpwatched” and became moms for the first time ever were able to celebrate their first Mother’s Day.

One trend we noticed among this latest crop of first time moms: either they’ve concealed their babies from the spotlight, and laid low since becoming a mom or they’ve been all in, giving their babies their own Instagram or making them the star of the parents social media feed. No in between. All In or Nothing. Whatever floats their boat, we’re sure each had a great time yesterday celebrating Mom’s Day for the first time since their babies were born. Here is a run down:

International human rights attorney Amal Clooney and husband George Clooney are very private people, yet the arrival of their first set of children, twins —a boy named Alexander and girl named Ella— was big news  yet, the Clooneys have yet to talk about them in the public other than George revealing their first words were  “Mamma!”

Tennis legand Serena Williams and her husband Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian welcomed their daughter Alexis Olympia last September and now the duo are stars of an HBO docu series about her arrival.

Khloe Kardashian was one of three of the Kardashian-Jenner women who welcomed a baby this year. Her sister Kylie Jenner had her first baby while Kim Kardashian welcomed her third child via surrogate. She had managed to stay out of  spotlight since giving birth to True (with her estranged boyfriend NBA Cleveland Cavaliers star Tristan Thompson) in April 2017.

Four-time Olympic gold medalist Sanya Richards-Ross and and her two-time Super Bowl champ hubby Aaron Ross welcomed their baby boy, Aaron Ross II in August.

The youngest of the Jenner-Kardashian clan, Kylie Jenner  welcomed her daughter Stormi with boyfriend Travis Scott on February 1 and she did an excellent job keeping the entire pregnancy under wraps.

It was last Mother’s Day 2017 that Kevin Hart announced that his wife, Eniko Hart, was expecting their first child. Their son Kenzo Kash made his grand debut in November and every since he’s been one of the happiest babies around!

Bring It On star Kirsten Dunst also did a great job covering up the majority of her pregnancy and only revealed it when she was well into her third trimester while posing for an ad campaign. She welcomed a baby boy this month with fiancé Jesse Plemons and they too have yet to even discuss baby since he arrived.

On May 2, Jordin Sparks and her husband, model Dana Isaiah Thomas welcomed their first child together,  son Dana Isaiah Thomas Jr.  and the American Idol alum stunned everyone when she was spotted walking the red carpet just three days later. Wow!

Julia Stiles and her husband Preston J. Cook welcomed their son Strummer Newcomb Cook on Oct. 20, 2017. The Silver Linings Playbook star was recently “mommy shamed” for the say she carried her baby in a carrier but clapped back like a champ.

POWER star Naturi Naughton welcomed her daughter, Zuri in July 2017 and she too has been great about keeping her little one out of the public eye but we’re sure she is a looker like her mom.

The Southern Charm star Cameran Eubanks  had her daughter Palmer on Nov. 11, 2017. After celebrating with a hilarious shower, Eubanks has since shared lots about mommyhood on her Insta!

The Hills Babyboom

Lauren Conrad led the little baby boom of alums of the MTV show The Hills when she welcomed her first child, son  Liam, on July 5 with her hubbie William Tell. Since becoming a mom, she too has laid low but pops up once in a while to show off her mom power!

HEIDI PRATT

Heidi Pratt who was Conrad’s nemesis on the show and her husband Spencer Pratt also welcomed a baby boy named Guinner on October 12017 but unlike the others, they’re pretty out and open about sharing photos of him in social media.

Finally, Whitney Port had her first child Sonny with husband Tim Rosenman in July 2017 and was very transparent about the trials of pregnancy on her YouTube channel but looks to believe it was all worth it.

Shamari DeVoe

Former 90s bandmember and wife to New Edition singer Ronnie DeVoe, singer Shamari Stone DeVo  welcomed boy twins, Ronnie III and Roman last October. The boys are so popular they even have their own top social media Instagram account with tons of followers.

Unfounded Autism-Vaccine Link Fears To Blame for Minnesota’s Measles Outbreak

Posted on May 9, 2017 May 9, 2017

syringe-435809_1280

A measles outbreak continues to strike Minnesota as health officials stress the importance of getting vaccinated.

There are now 48 confirmed measles cases in Hennepin, Ramsey and Crow Wing counties, mostly affecting unvaccinated Somali-American children, according to data released by the state’s Department of Health on Monday.

Of those impacted, 46 are children 10 and younger; 41 are Somali-American; and 45 have not been vaccinated against the disease, according to the data.

The state’s outbreak — the largest in over two decades — appears to have started in a Somali community, where vaccine skepticism has recently spread, said Kristen Ehresmann, director of the Infectious Disease Epidemiology, Prevention and Control Division at the Minnesota Department of Health.

“I want to be very clear that this outbreak has nothing to do with being Somali. It’s just the sheer fact of being unvaccinated,” Ehresmann said.

Minnesota’s Somali community has seen an uptick in vaccine resistance due to fears of a link to autism, she said. Research shows that any side effects from vaccines are rare, and there is no evidence that vaccines cause autism.

“Usually, states will see one or two cases in a year, and what’s concerning is, as of today, we’ll be at 48 cases of measles,” Ehresmann said of Minnesota.

“The most worrisome thing is, it’s a completely unnecessary outbreak,” she said. “We have a vaccine that can prevent measles, and yet we’re seeing this widespread transmission.”

Birth Order Rules: How to care for your Eldest child

Posted on October 13, 2014 October 13, 2014
Following up on our post on caring for an Only Child, Middle Child, Extrovert and Introvert Child, here is a great excerpt from Education.com on caring for that Eldest child.
Did you know that almost all of the U.S. presidents were either the firstborn child or the firstborn son in their families? All but two of the first astronauts sent into space were firstborns, and the other two were “only children.” The eldest child is more likely to be confident, organized, intelligent, determined, eager to please, and a leader. This is also the sibling more prone to become a CEO, win a Nobel Prize, and be more academically successful as well as financially secure.24 There’s no doubt that being the firstborn has clear advantages. This is the only child who will receive our undivided attention and one-on-one time, and research shows that this makes a big difference in how they turn out.
A Norwegian study led by psychologist Petter Kristenson meticulously analyzed IQ scores of 250,000 men and found that the oldest child is smarter than the next oldest sibling by an average of 2.3 points (who in turn beat the third-born brother by 1.1 points).25 Although 2.3 points may seem measly, in today’s test-crazed society they can be just enough to give a child an academic edge and be the difference between earning a B+ or an A, going to a state school or a university. But here’s the real kicker: if the eldest child dies, the second sibling becomes the smartest one. That means it’s not just the birth order that boosts those IQ points but the dynamics in the family and how the firstborn is treated. It appears that our parenting really does make a difference when it comes to giving our eldest a clear intellectual edge.
With all those positives, how could there possibly be a problem with being the oldest kid? Well, consider things from your eldest’s view. There is a downside to being the oldest, and even though you can’t change his family rank, there are a few solutions to help this kid turn out the best he can be (as well as relax and enjoy life just a tad more).

  1. Focus on your other kids. Watch out! A few researchers find that parents do have favorites, and as much as we’d never admit it, we often favor our firstborn child. After all, that first birth is a life-changing, incredible event. And although that’s a huge boost for your elder kid’s self-esteem, it also can fuel sibling rivalry. Those jealousies can linger for a long time and cause a wedge between your eldest and his younger sibs. So beware of your interactions with your kids and ask yourself now and then, “Does each child feel I love him best?”
  2. Watch those responsibilities. We give our elder kids more responsibilities, and we just plain expect more of them at a younger age. But are you expecting too much? The eldest kid hates being told, “You’re in charge of the house until I get back” or “You’re the oldest, so I expect more of you.” Every now and then take a reality check to make sure you’re not imposing too many responsibilities on this kid or treating him as if he were older than his chronological age. (And do temper those “You’re the man around the house” comments at least until he (or she) comes of age.)
  3. Relax and take ten. Although the firstborn has the clear advantage of having our undivided attention (at least until the next sibling comes along), he also stands the chance of being the most stressed. We really are stricter with our eldest child and let their younger siblings get away with far more.26 We do inflate our expectations a bit for our first and expect more from him. Because this is our first-time parenting experience, we’re more overly anxious in our response to this kid.27 It’s one reason the firstborn child usually is more anxious—our expectations and stress rub off on him. Take a few deliberate breaths before responding to your first (he is also more clued in to your reactions and feeds off your stress). And maybe pare down those expectations just a wee, wee bit.
  4. Let your child go his own way. Birth dynamics play an interesting role in how our kids turn out. We are tenser and have higher expectations for our oldest, and he tends to be a less of a risk taker, sticking to the path we’ve forged for him. Research also finds that we encourage our eldest child to pursue more cognitive and analytical interests that could lead to more prestigious careers like law or medicine.28 (We also tend to be more open and relaxed with our younger child and far more receptive to letting him stray off that “straight and narrow” path to follow his more artistic and creative interests and become the poet or graphic artist.) The key is to identify from the get-go your oldest child’s unique passions and strengths so that he can become his own person and develop those interests that may lead him to the career of his dreams. And while you’re at it, encourage him to deviate a bit from the norm, take a risk, and think outside the box as his younger siblings do.
  5. Let your child tutor his younger sibling. The eldest child has another benefit: he has a younger sibling to help. “Can you teach your brother how to read?” “Will you show your sister how to turn on the computer?” Teaching someone a skill helps not only the tutored but also the tutor. In fact, in many cases, the oldest child gains the most (IQ-wise, anyway) from teaching his younger sibling. So, assuming he’s willing and has the time, encourage your eldest to mentor and teach. Just remember to use the same strategy for your other kids so they can benefit as well.
  6. Watch out for allergies. A review of over fifty studies found that the oldest kids are more likely to suffer from hay fever, eczema, and other allergies.29 One hypothesis: the eldest is overprotected and not exposed to those germs and bacteria, and so is far more susceptible to colds and likely to develop a weaker immune system (whereas the younger siblings battle the bugs at home before they start school and develop a stronger immune system to fight off those germs later on). Some doctors contend that all those colds firstborn kids tend to catch are really allergies in disguise. (The most pronounced symptom of an allergy is an itchy nose and no fever, ache, or chills.)

Kristin Cavallari and Getty’s new decision reveal the future of Celebrity Photo industry

Posted on March 14, 2014 March 14, 2014
Last week, photography and image licensing company Getty announced that since it is difficult and expensive to track, police and sue the millions of websites, bloggers and web users that routinely post, share and circulate their licensed products without paying for them, it is giving up. No more will it send out cease and desist letters and a bill to violaters.
Senior vice president at Getty Craig Peters told BusinessWeek that the digital photography industry is operating as the music industry did pre-iTunes and the only the way to stay relevant is to adjust with the times and figure out a way to let people continue to display images on blogs and social media feeds legally.
Although it hasn’t figured out how to do it yet, Peters thinks it will go the route of YouTube which embeds advertising around or as previews to videos, acknowledging very well that some of the content may be copyrighted or contain songs that weren’t pre-cleared to use.
This could spell danger for other photography & digital images selling companies like Fame/Flynet, Bauer Griffin, Pacific Coast News, IMF, WireImages and others that could see a drop in demand for their photos from online magazines that can afford to pay $50 for a 2 week license per image.
The paparazzi are already taking a beating from periodic scuffles with celebrities like the Kanye Wests of the world and from successful celebrity-led legislation and campaigns to limit their ability to photograph celebrity children.
Also, by now, these companies must be seeing decreased revenue as more and more of their clients use the thousands of images celebrities share of themselves on sites like Instagram, Facebook and Twitter which have terms of service which say the celebs release their rights to the images upon upload.
For example, above are professionally taken photos from major photog sites of Kristin Cavallari, former MTV reality TV starlet of The Hills and Laguna Beach and current shoe designer and TV host.

Cavallari and her husband Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler are expecting their second child after welcoming son, Camden Jack in August 2012.

Below are similar images of Cavallari taken after appearing on the SiriusXM show The Couch today to plug her new E! show The Formulist; at the Elton John Oscar watch party on March 2 this year and at a Vegas trade show last month plugging her line of shoes through a Chinese Laundry imprint.
Before getting to each venue to walk the red carpet, she took a selfie or had her own photo taken that she uploaded onto social media. Granted the quality is different but free celebrity-provided photos and Getty’s Free embed photos option could really change the game.
So there you have it, folks!  It’s a different digital world indeed!

“More feet!” Mom delivers surprise quadruplets day before 42nd birthday

Posted on February 17, 2014 February 17, 2014
MailOnline
A Mississippi woman delivered surprise quadruplets this month!
What? How?!
It turns out Kimberly Fugate was expecting identical triplet girls.

The mom to a 10-year old discovered the news of the triplets this past November 13th.  When the then 41-year old mom went into labor at  the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC), she delivered three healthy babies as expected, a day before her 42nd birthday on February 8.

Then her doctor looked at her and said, “More feet!”
She then delivered a fourth baby girl, surprising Fugate, her husband and her doctor,  Dr. James Bofill, director of maternal-fetal medicine at UMMC, who said he was embarrassed for missing the 4th baby in a first of his 27-year career.
“No one really knows what makes a single zygote separate into identical twins or identical triplets, or in this case, identical quadruplets,”  Bofill told The Clarion Ledger. “It’s definitely an accident; it’s not supposed to happen and, in some cases, like Ms. Fugate’s, it happens in a spectacular manner.”
The baby girls – Kenleigh, Kristen, Kaleigh and Kelsey – were born premature at 28 weeks and will remain in the hospital until May.
