Your Celeb-Inspired Fall Boots Guide!

Bellyitch Rewind

fall-maternity-boots
Cute shoes are a must, and this fall is all about the stylish boot. Scrunched ankle boots or sexy knee high, being pregnant is no time to forget about stylish footwear.

Celebrities manage to look effortlessly stylish even while knocked up and certainly while rocking cut fall boots

However, when shopping for a new pair of boots think about what your feet really need during pregnancy.  Still, you don’t have to cut out style for function, altogether. Mix it up and be creative.

Think Style and function.

  • Pregnancy can wreak havoc on your feet. They will swell, they will hurt, they may even sweat a little more thanks to hormone changes. All of this means that you cannot grab just any boot off the shelf. There are some important things you have to look for first.
  • Look for stretchability. If your feet have not start swelling yet, they will soon. And if they are already swollen, they can always get worse. While you want boots that fit comfortable and will not trip you up, consider how much wider your feet could get over the rest of the pregnancy. Look for boots that are a little wider, softer, and can stretch to accommodate your swelling feet.

Go with flats whenever possible. Heels add more pressure and stress to our legs, which can be extra painful when you are already carrying extra weight on them. Choose flat boots over the heels if you can. If heels are a must for you, look at shorter wider heels that will not put as much strain on your legs.
  • Make sure that your boots have good arch support. This is very important when pregnant, as your feet are subject to more stress than usual. If you have trouble finding good boots with enough arch support, you can always buy add-ins that go inside of your shoes and boots.
  • Choose breathable, natural fabrics for boots. Leathers and other natural materials are great for helping your feet breath and not trapping moisture against your feet. This can be especially good if pregnancy hormones are making your feet sweat somewhat more than usual. Natural fabrics will help wick moisture away and prevent smells from forming.

UGG makes the perfect boots for pregnancy. The new styles add that sense of flair without sacrificing on comfort. Here are two styles that can be found at Zappos, that your feet will be sure to thank you for wearing.

A pair of great boots can add sizzle to your maternity wardrobe. Before you buy that pair of boots, make sure they will not work against you during the rest of your pregnancy.

Communicate Better with Your Spouse with These 4 Tips

Posted on October 5, 2016 October 5, 2016

vest-1031127_960_720

First there was the Horse Whisperer. Then came the Baby Whisperer, then the Dog Whisperer. Seeing all these whisperers tapping into their extrasensory ability to bond with less communicative creatures, I began to wonder if I could do something similar with my husband.

Could delving into his psyche help strengthen our relationship? Or, on a more pragmatic level, could I get him to do what I want without nagging, yelling or being passive-aggressive?

I decided to consult several marriage counselors in my quest to become a bona fide Husband Whisperer. Anything to get my spouse to, among other things, throw away his used yogurt containers, leave the toilet seat down and place his dirty clothes in the laundry basket rather than going for a three-point shot and letting them fall as they may.

So, armed with an arsenal of expert tips, I embarked on a four-week experiment to see if I could somehow morph into a Husband Whisperer and, with practice, patience and perseverance, mold my spouse’s mind ever so gently. Here’s the advice I followed, along with the results.

1. Always say please and thank you—and touch him when you do. I know it sounds like old-school advice, but every marriage expert said the same thing: No one likes being bossed around, especially by their spouses, so there’s no point in throwing down orders like a drill sergeant. All it does is evoke memories of their mothers nagging them to clean their rooms. My husband told me point-blank in our early days that if I told him what to do, he’d do the opposite simply out of spite. Real men don’t get henpecked.

With this in mind, therapists concur that we need to approach our husbands not like children, but with the calm, respectful manner we would friends. And ask, don’t tell. One evening I heard myself sputtering to my husband, “The garbage?!”, like a frustrated teenager begging for the car keys. Not surprisingly, that didn’t even bring a response. Realizing I was off to a bad start, I tried again. “Could you please take out the garbage? It’s starting to stink.” I could have left out the last part, I suppose, but I did get a response, although it wasn’t the one I wanted: “I’ll do it when I get back from the gym.”

Later, when the garbage remained unchanged (and still smelly), I upped my game and took the advice of Toni Coleman, LCSW, a relationship coach from McLean, Virginia, who’d told me, “Your husband will respond better if you place a persuasive hand on his arm or back. Men really respond to physical touch.”So I leaned in closely until we were practically cheek to jowl, but not close enough to block his view of the evening news, and I placed my hand gently on his shoulder. Using the sweetest voice I could muster, I said, “Honey, could you please take out the garbage now that you’re back?” Not only did I succeed in getting his attention, I got him to spring into action. He seemed pleased (and a bit shocked) when I thanked him afterward. Now, whenever I want him to take out the trash, I summon my kinder, gentler self.

Inside Blac Chyna and Rob’s Elegant Baby Shower

Posted on October 3, 2016 October 3, 2016

Blac Chyna (real name Angela Renee White) is 34 weeks pregnant and celebrated her impending arrival of her 2nd child, a baby girl, with fiance Robert Kardashian at a lavish coed poolside outdoor wedding shower at a luxurious estate.

The mom to be wore a nude beaded and jeweled dress by Angel Brinks and arrived to the even in a party bus with her 3-year old son King Cairo with ex-fiance, Tyga.

Chyna’s best friend Sylvia Karapetian organized the cloud-themed event which featured decadent desserts, cloud-shaped cookies, a cupcake tower and more. The bar was stocked with Moet, Ciroc and top shelf premium alcohol for friends.

The intimate affair was attended by 80 guests including Rob’s friend Scott Disick (ex-boyfriend to his sister Kourtney Kardashian and dad to his nephew and nieces), E! News reported. Rob’s sisters Kourtney, Kylie, Kendall and Kim were at Paris Fashion Week.

There was a very unique 7-layer topsy turvy cake, balloons in the shape of clouds over the pool and floral arrangements in the shape of clouds. There was a photo booth for kids to

“Rob has been involved in the planning. He really wants Chyna to be happy and he has been helping with the small details so that everything is to her liking,” an insider told E! prior to the bash. “He really wants it to be a special day for her.”

Guests brought several designer and upscale gifts. (see video below). Looks like it was a success and E! News sources said the couple were very affectionate towards one another and Rob seemed very pleased to becoming a dad.

“It was such a fun party. Rob and Chyna had the best time. Rob and Scott arrived together right at the beginning and Rob was the last to leave,” a source shared with E! News. “He was so happy, very very excited about being a dad. Scott kept teasing him and saying “Bob, you are about to be a dad!”

Recall, last week, Rob had a mini melt down and tweeted out his half-sister Kylie’s number out  when he mistakenly thought his sisters were planning a shower without inviting Chyna but he told On Air with Ryan Secrest.

“It was miscommunication,” Rob told Secrest on his daily radio show. “They were trying to all surprise me and do a little shower … I took it the wrong way because it was a surprise, so I thought they weren’t going to have Chyna there.”

At least Rob manned up to the very juvenile mistake.

“It was literally miscommunication and I probably shouldn’t have went on Twitter, but I did,” he admitted. “We all love each other and we’re all family and I never want to beef or argue with anybody.”

Chyna and Rob got engaged in April after three months of dating and announced they’re expecting the next month.

Check out the photos that various guests and vendors shared on Instagram, including photos of a maternity shoot they did with PEOPLE magazine.

What’s Up with Mags Making Celeb Kids Models Look This Adult?

Posted on September 29, 2016 September 29, 2016

halycon kids

Halycon Kids, a quarterly magazine for preteen and teen readers which focuses on  fashion, art and DIY, has several celebrity kids models on the cover of its Fall 2016 issue. We love the pop of red featured boldly in the spread and the gold, silver and black Michael Kors kicks they are all wearing.

D’Lila, Jessie, and Chance Combs, whose parents are Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs and Kim Porter, are wearing a dress by Tago Look and shoes by Michael Kors.

Sean “P.Diddy” Combs‘ and his ex Kim Porter‘s children, twin 9-year old daughters Jessie and D’Lila Combs are featured in Newspaper print dresses , as is his daughter with ex Sarah Chapman, 10-year old Chance Combs in a cute crimson bubble dress with royal sleeves.

Chance Combs, daughter of Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs and Sarah Chapman, is wearing a dress by Junona and shoes by Michael Kors.

Cali Dream, the daughter of rapper The Game is also featured in a cute dress with a tu-tu skirt and is the only one who looks her age, albeit she too is toting a pound of excess weave on her head.  Don’t get me wrong. I think they all look very cute, albeit very serious and very adult. Maybe a little too adult.

Harper Tillman, daughter of Kiki and Travares Tillman, a retired NFL player is also on the cover and is used to being made up because she is a professional child model who walks in many fashion shows. Tilman is often dressed up and made up like a little adult in many mag spreads. Maybe I’m an old folgie and I am paranoid over the existence of pedophiles who search the internet for kids images but something about how grown these children look in these photos make me uncomfortable.  I mean, Harper looks twice her age in most of her pics like these:

Disney channel actress Skai Jackson  is also featured in the magazine and by the looks of her Instagram page, it appears that she has become the latest fave for magazine editors and is getting lots of coverage, which is really cool. She started to get wide spread popularity beyond the kids’ TV scene when she took on rapper Iggy Azalea in a famous Twitter beef this past May.  Before that, she was featured often in a meme.

Since shutting Iggy down on Twitter, she’s the new teen “it” girl and has been featured on Paper magazine, Teen Vogue, Seventeen, YSB Now and of course, Halycon Kids and many others. She’s riding high and that’s a wonderful thing! But still…..

For your College Bound Kid: 3 Application Essay Tips

Posted on September 22, 2016 September 22, 2016

college essay

Parents to high school children who plan to attend college know that college application season is around the corner. A lot of decisions are made based on the application essay. It can be the difference between an acceptance, rejection or wait list.

College admission professional, Elizabeth Dankoski, has helped hundreds of high achieving students get into the college of their dreams (75% are accepted into top 20 schools) with tips for how to write a “Harvard-Worthy” college application essay. She offers for our tips for readers with college-bound children for creating top notched college essays:

  1. Tell a deeply personal story about profound change: “There’s nothing more important you can do in your essay than tell a deeply personal story. Your essay is your opportunity to show the colleges something they can’t glean from looking at your SAT scores or GPA or activity sheet. This is the only way you’re going to differentiate yourself from every other student — by telling a story that highlights something deeply personal about you.
  2. Make it vivid: “If you want your reader to connect with your essay, your opening needs to leap off the page. Try to get as many senses involved as you can: sight, sound, smell, taste, feel… Once you’ve set the stage like this, a few colorful details woven throughout your essay will keep your story alive and full of spark.

  3. Offer a bit of mystery at the end: “One of the hardest things my students struggle with is the ending to their essays. Either they feel like they have to tie everything up in a neat bow or they end up with overly generalized and clichéd language. Remember that you don’t need to have everything figured out. It’s okay if you don’t fully understand how to make sense of your experiences. What’s important is to make it clear that you’re willing to stay with this confusion until the answers become clear.

“When you allow a bit of mystery into the end, you let the reader know that you’re okay with not knowing everything. That shows maturity, and it lets the colleges know that you’re in a perfect place to dive into the complicated issues you’re going to face in your college classes.”

God speed parents! And kids!

2016 Primetime Emmy Awards: Our Fave Celeb Moms’ Red Carpet Moments

Posted on September 19, 2016 September 19, 2016

emmy 2016

The stars came out in droves for the 68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards held on Sunday, September 18 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California. Among the celebrites attending the 2016 Emmy Awards were several of our Bellyitch “Bumpwatch” alums and other celeb moms we’ve featured on the blog.

Several were nominated including Kerry Washington for an Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Movie or Series for her role as Anita Hill in HBO‘s Confirmation; Viola Davis, Claire Danes and Taraji P. Henson for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for their role as Annalise Keating in ABC‘s How to Get Away with Murder,  as Carrie Mathison in Showtime‘s Homeland and as “Cookie” in Fox‘s Empire, respectively.

Winners included Regina King who took home the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for her role as Terri Lacroix in the ABC drama American Crime.

During a red carpet interview, she reflected back 20 years to working in Jerry Macguire alongside Cuba Gooding Jr. right after giving birth to her son. The recalled how supportive everyone was on the set to her and allowed her time to breastfeed.

“Honestly I just had my son the month before we started shooting and just being able to be in an environment that embraced a new mom,” the Southland and 24 alum said. “And they took breaks when it was time for me to nurse and that’s what I remember. I remember being able to be an actress and still be a mom and that’s special.”

She now stars on the hit HBO show, The Leftovers, and has directed several episodes of Scandal, Being Mary Jane, The Catch and other television projects.

Ana Chumlsky’s show Veep won for best Comedy Series.

The 6 Food Fuel Rules for Your Child Athlete

Posted on September 14, 2016 September 14, 2016

softball-1593816_960_720

One of the great things about having a blog is that I can share with my readers the experiences I am dealing with and my personal research on parenting issues and dilemmas because other parents may benefit.

Another wonderful value is the fact that I am sent plenty of resources, information and tips from brands, organizations, the government and other entities. Often times, the info and tips are insightful and quite timely.

For example, right now, my husband and I are struggling with getting our high school athlete to eat better and healthier so that he can become a more stronger asset to the team. Also, unlike training when he was in middle school, his high school cross country (long distance running) team requires that he train for a minimum of 2 hours 6 days a week and run in meets once a week. That is 6 days of running! Obviously, he will need to fuel his body properly to maintain that level of intense activity.

Heather Mangieri, a national media spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, says there are six food rules that athletes, coaches, and families should employ to help bring about that understanding. She reveals them in her forthcoming book, “Fueling Youth Athletes” (Human Kinetics, December 2016) and it was awesome to get these tips as they came just in time for me:

1. Eat meals—no grazing. Mangieri dislikes the word “snack” because it conjures up visions of chips, pretzels, sweets, or a single piece of fruit. She would prefer to replace “snack” with “mini-meal” and encourages young athletes to eat one or two of them each day between regular meals. These mini-meals should contain at least two food groups and include a source of high-quality protein. The foods should also be filling so that they help the athlete feel satisfied until the next meal. “Eating a mini-meal makes you feel as though you actually ate a meal,” comments Mangieri, “and helps to prevent grazing and picking at foods between meals.”

2. Never use food as a reward. Mangieri, founder of Nutrition CheckUp, a nutrition consulting practice with expertise in sport nutrition, weight management, and disordered eating, stresses that you should never use food as a reward for good behavior. Using food as a reward teaches young athletes to categorize foods as good or bad and can lead to negative feelings about food. While studies show using tasty foods as a reward makes them more enticing, making kids stay at the dinner table until they finish their vegetables makes them less interested in healthy food. Instead, families should use other items as rewards for good behavior, such as books, music downloads, or movies.

“Parents can help the children be successful by getting trigger or comfort foods out of the house and filling the cabinets with healthy foods and snacks that are ready to eat.”

3. Be a role model. Giving advice is easy, but youth athletes are much more likely to do what their parents and coaches do, not what they say. “Nutrition is taught from an early age in the home,” Mangieri says. “Expecting children or teenagers to eat vegetables when parents do not is unrealistic.” The mother of three active children herself, she thinks parents should not only tell their young athletes how to eat healthfully but also show them how to eat healthfully. Similarly, coaches can do this by providing the right options for recovery or by selecting eating establishments after a game that offer healthy choices.

4. Make it a family affair. If a child needs to lose weight, it is not just the child’s concern—it is the family’s concern as well. When one child is struggling with weight, singling him or her out as having a problem can leave them feeling isolated and be detrimental to self-esteem. Mangieri recommends keeping the situation positive and focusing on how the family can eat better together. Family members should work together to eat healthier and become more physically active.

5. Create a healthy environment. Mangieri points out the obvious: you can’t eat what is not in the house. If children or teenagers come home from school or practice hungry, they are likely to grab the first thing they see. So, if the cabinet if filled with chips, pretzels, and sweet treats, there is a high likelihood the kids will choose those items. Telling kids not to eat those things will not work. Parents can help the children be successful by getting trigger or comfort foods out of the house and filling the cabinets with healthy foods and snacks that are ready to eat. “This does not mean that children should be deprived of foods they like,” Mangieri explains. “If they really want ice cream, drive to the store and buy a small cone. Feed the craving without overindulging.”

6. Power down during mealtimes. Eating well includes paying attention to what you are eating, not your electronics. When young athletes are engaged in texting conversations or watching videos during mealtime, it can lead to overeating. It is hard for them to pay attention to hunger and satiety cues when they are engaged with an electronic device. Mangieri recommends that families power down the devices, turn off the television, and focus on fueling their bodies properly.

Covering weight management, supplementation, fueling, hydration, and more, “Fueling Young Athletes” addresses the issues that families and athletes most often face, such as late-night practices, inconvenient school lunch times, demanding tournament schedules and travel leagues, and lack of sleep.

Actually, it discovered me when I was offered to review a sample of the Knix Wear 8-in-1 Evolution Bra, a high-tech functional yet fashionable sports bra made of moisture-wicking, odor-absorbent fabrics.

The material is seamless and fits perfectly over your skin with no underwire or other extra elements. It’s like butter, baby. I mean, I love the way it felt while wearing it. It’s an athletic type bra and one that I’d feel comfortable wearing to the gym and everything.  Since it arrived in my mail box, along with some samples of the Knix Fresh Fix Technology underwear, they have been my go-to undergarments of choice.

Back to the bra. It is the brain child of Toronto-Canada-based Joanna Griffiths and her co-founders who tested the bra on 70 different women with varying cup sizes and of all activity levels, during yoga, swimming, sleeping and working. When complete, they launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo and raised $60, 000 before later raising $1.5 million in funding from other sources and scoring major partnerships with elite brands like Spandex and the like.

The bra was created with functionality in mind and comes in sizes 32A to 38DD, and cost $55. That’s a generous and reasonable price point for a virtually everyday bra. I wasn’t privy to all of the marketing and hype that accompanied the brand’s release (it’s been featured on virtually every media outlet and was the most successful online crowdsource fundraising campaign in Canada, at one time) so I didn’t have the high expectations that others had. I searched the net and saw a few skeptics, but that unawareness was good because my feedback and reaction to the product is from the perspective a genuine first time user.

“We have created a product that women have been waiting for,” Knix Wear founder Joanna Griffiths told Mashable. “The bra, like its construction, is a chameleon: part fashion, part function, part everyday, part sports bra.”Knix claims the bra will cut down your bra count by half given that the average woman owns about 9 bras, according to SkinMag online.

The innovation behind the bra is similar to the line of underwear Knix invented that I mentioned earlier in this post, the Fresh Fix Technology, and they too come in a variety of styles,  from the lacy Knixy thong to comfy seamless boy shorts.

Typically, because I am pretty modest, I avoid posting photos of myself in my underwear, but this bra is so tastefully chic that I was even cool showing it off here (well with some blur effects! lol)

…And even to wear it under a top and having it show through like with this striped shirt dress. Score! Overall, I highly recommend this bra and would even gift it to friends and family!

I love shirt dresses! I picked up this seersucker pinstriped print collared shirt dress from #RuggedWarehouse. It is of a very light material! Perfect for this super hot weather. Underneath, the best bra ever! By @knixwear! It feels like second skin! Going to review it for my blog @bellyitch! Amazing. Highly recommend. Thanks @KnixWear!

Biz woman and Growing Up Hip Hop reality TV star Angela Simmons had a fab baby shower at Sugar Factory in New York city on Friday, September 2.

E! News captured exclusive photos of the event was planned by Danielle Rothweiler of Rothweiler Event Design.

First, I am loving the designer and blogger’s stunning black, bump hugging sheer cut out dress she got from stStudio

Given that she has revealed that she was expecting a baby boy, the various hues of blue were expected along with silver ribbons and cute centerpieces accented with hydrangeas from Diva Blooms.

According to E, “the simple yet classy affair included friends and family members, who were all up and mingling with one another. When they weren’t catching up with the pregnant star, taking selfies, or making use of the Tap Snap and DJ Zapp photo booth, the attendees enjoyed a feast of food.”

“Today was filled so much love … Friends and family !!! Wow thank you everyone who came today:) thank you @sugarfactory for hosting us,” she penned about the event on her Instagram social media page promising a timeline flood of more pics from the event.

Guests noshed on  fried shrimp, fries, wings, vegetable and dip, chicken fingers, as well as macaroni and cheese balls. They also enjoyed Sugar Factory’s signature cocktails and desserts.

Sweet Grace Cake Designs made a beautiful cake. Other desserts petit cakes, candy and pastries.

Although the Pastry shoes co-founder has never shared who her fiance is, reports indicate that he may be Atlanta native Sutton Tennyson who she was spotted out and about with, though he has never commented or confirmed the rumors. We’ll update this post when the flood starts! lol

Jessica Biel Hosted a $30K per Ticket Fundraiser for Hillary Clinton

Posted on August 31, 2016 August 31, 2016

When our Bellytich Bumpwatch alum, actress and restaurateur Jessica Biel isn’t throwing a big bash for kids and parents, she and her husband Justin Timberlake are hosting $30,000 a ticket Hillary Clinton fundraiser luncheons in their Hollywood Hills  home, attended by the likes of Shonda Rhimes, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Aniston and Tobey McGuire.

We know about the late August event  because guests of these types of events can’t help but share pics from the insights. There was one of Timberlake and Biel speaking to guests and another of Aniston posing for a selfie with Clinton and Maguire’s wife, Jennifer Meyer.

Clinton was in California for a series of starry fundraisers in Los Angeles, Laguna Beach and Silicon Valley.

She started the trip off taping a segment with Jimmy Kimmel Live then headed over to a fundraiser for 500 at the Beverly Hills home of ex-NBA icon Magic Johnson and his wife Cookie. The Democratic Presidential candidate then  headed over to Palo Alto for two events: one hosted by Apple CEO Tim Cook, according to the Mercury News in San Jose.

Elbow rubbing with the stars while raising money from those who have the most money to donate, must be nice.
