Why You Won’t See an ‘Inside Blake Lively’s Baby Shower’ Post Soon

blake lively baby shower

Blake Lively celebrated the impending arrival of her second child this weekend in New York at an intimate private baby shower held at the Bedford Post Inn on Saturday in the heart of Westchester County.

Sources close to E! News confirm that the celebration started around 11 am and guests included one of her BFF’s Taylor Swift. After the event, a few guests retreated back to Lively and husband Ryan Reynolds‘ home to hang out and catch up.

The extremely private affair managed to go off without a hitch and without any of the guests sharing images of it on social media. Before this report, Vanity Fair sleuths suggested that the usually active actress may have already given birth given her relatively low key and quite presence on social media sites.

They had good reason to believe so. Lively and Reynolds have never revealed photos of their wedding and, like Kerry Washington, she has managed to keep their daughter James out of the public eye altogether. We’ve seen zero photos of her…ever.

We’re sure it was a lovely event, so there’s no more news to report here. And certainly, no ‘Inside Blake Lively’s Baby Shower’ post to be seen either.

Your Guide to Throwing an Elegant Upscale Dinner Party

entertainment1

Having a dinner party should not be the end all, be all to your hosting forays. Your guest list is made up of friends and you have already been in plenty of social situations with them before. If memory serves, your college years together have produced some pretty crazy and embarrassing stories already. Would one more night really subtract from how they already perceive you as a person? No. But if the party went well, that would surely lend you credence.

Hoping to impress your party guests with a fabulous dinner this season? Hope no more: here are the tips to help you throw a killer dinner party.

The Guest List

Health and lifestyle blog, Greatist, writes that to host a successful party, you need to start with the guest list. If you have two friends that are arguing on Twitter over today’s current political climate, it’s best not to have them seated together at the same dinner party. They will capitalize on the conversation and turn what should have been an enjoyable night in with friends into chaos. If Bravo TV‘s Real Housewives franchise is of any indication, inviting guests engaged in an ongoing feud will only make your other guests uncomfortable and spoil the evening.

 The Menu

menu2
When it comes to the menu, a good host is aware of their guests’ food allergies and preferences. To make sure that your main course will be enjoyed by everyone, include in the invitation a section asking about exactly that: food allergies and preferences. Give them a list of options (no more than three) for the hors d’oeuvres that they can check and blank lines for them to fill out listing their allergies. To make sure you get your responses back in a timely manner, include a stamped return envelope in the mailed invitation. Some people will complain if they are required to use a stamp and envelop of their own.

Whatever you, do not send an electronic invitation to your guests. Word associations with dinner parties include the elegant, tasteful and refined. An electronic invitation is cheap and tawdry.

You will want the guests you do invite to be on good speaking terms and to share similar interests. This will keep the flow of the conversation moving and give room for everyone at the table to speak. Dinner parties are about good food and conversation; one party pooper can make your party run afoul very quickly.

The Venue

venue

More than likely you will be hosting your dinner party at home. Your guests will congregate around the hors d’oeuvre table and wine bar, and you’ll want to make sure that both are clean and finely styled. This isn’t an outdoor barbecue; paper cups and plates aren’t going to do it. The decoration of the hors d’oeuvre table, wine bar and table setting will need to be polished and fashionable. To highlight your wine selection, the Alessi-designed oval stainless steel tray will bring your guests attention to your superb tastes. The Seletti dishware tabletop collection will bring in a playful take on the traditional dinnerware setting. The cheese available on your cheese platter can be finely cut using the Blomus FROMA cheese slicer. By offering your guests the very best, they’re going to have the very best time.

The Music

menu

Music is subjective. Like a work of art or a novel, not everyone agrees on the message. Sometimes it’s just the sound of the piece that can aggravate one listener while another begins to move their body to the beat. To keep everyone happy, choose music without song lyrics. There are choices in jazz, classical, downtempo electronic and folk music that will give your party a lovely low soundtrack to play in the background.

One last piece of advice? Don’t stress out too much! Dinner parties are supposed to be fun, so eat, drink and be merry!

Teachers Spend over $1,000 of their Own Money for their Classroom

back-to s-sch

The graphic shows some pretty amazing data like how teachers in America spend a total $1.6 billion of their own money on school supplies each year!

An Oklahoma school teacher told Huffington Post last year that she spends  about $4,000 to $6,000 of her own money on supplies for her students each year.  That educator, DeAnn Moran, estimates that this number has increased over the past few years since Oklahoma has slashed education funding. Teacher salaries in Oklahoma are also some of the lowest in the nation.

“We as teachers have to find ways to be creative because I’m going to do whatever it takes to be creative for our children, even if that means it comes out of my pocket,” Moran said.

She is not alone. All around the country educators are being forced to do more with less. Last year, teachers spent an average of about $500 of their own money on supplies for students.

Additionally, the cost of living for a single person can be 40 percent or more of the average teacher salary by state. The cost of living for a married couple with two children can be anywhere from 87 to 187 percent of the average teacher salary by state.

When asked about the amount that teachers and parents spend on school supplies every year, Shane Forster, Country Manager at CouponBox ,had this to say: “I’m not surprised by those numbers. In our business, many of the retailers we work with are seeing more and more parents and teachers signing up for discount programs, much more so than the schools themselves. They make up a considerable portion of the customer base.”

“Teachers and parents are extremely motivated by the success of their children and students, and retailers see school supply spending increase from year to year,” he said. “Their dedication and willingness to spend is a positive sign, but can undoubtedly put a strain on some. It is our goal to help customers with as many discounts on quality products and brands during the back-to-school season as well as year round.”

Here’s how the numbers break down, in visual format:

What People On the East Coast Name their Babies

woman-1321330_960_720

Posted by Laura Woods

Rich with history, the East Coast is characterized by a fast-paced lifestyle, true seasons and an appreciation for exciting, urban landscapes. Whether you call this part of the country home, or you simply dream of life on the Atlantic, giving your little boy or girl a name prevalent in these states can be very meaningful.

In order to identify the names that are most common on the East Coast relative to the rest of the United States, MooseRoots used data from the Social Security Administration to find the top names in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida in 2014. We only included names with at least 1,000 occurrences, and compared the frequency of each name on the East Coast with the rest of the U.S. Finally, we compiled a list of names most likely to appear in states on the East Coast, and ranked the list from lowest to highest frequency relative to the rest of the country.

While some names, like Taylor or Morgan, might not surprise you, the list sheds light on heritage patterns among Americans. According to a U.S. Census Bureau survey, counties with the most people claiming Italian heritage live on the East Coast, with concentrated communities located in New York, Connecticut and Rhode Island. Unsurprisingly, such patterns are reflected in the list, where you’ll find names like Gianna and Valentina.

Note: All values are rounded to the nearest tenth.

Bump Watch: Kerry Washington has Been Sticking with a Mainly Black Style Pallete

kerry washington

Since announcing her pregnancy at the 2016 Met Gala, Scandal star Kerry Washington has been laying low, but not as out of the spotlight as with her first pregnancy. She has made a few public appearances and in most of them, she looks to have selected to stick with a mainly black color pallete.

For example, at producer Jennifer Klein‘s 19th annual Day of Indulgence party held in the LA home of the Pearl Harbor associate producer,  Washington donned a black HATCH Chloe jumpsuit to the Los Angeles, California event held on August 14, 2016. According to the YBF, or other bump watch alums, Kristen Bell was at the even as well. So were alums Jennifer Lopez and Anna Farris, InStyle magazine reports.

kerry life & style

Washington and her husband, former NFL player Jimmy Kimmel LiveNnamdi Asomugha are expecting their second child. She decided to not film her hit ABC show while pregnant and succumb to all of the crazy ways show producers attempted to hide her bump. The show will return for its 6th season in the middle of the fall season, and on election night to be precise.

“We are basically going to start out the season on election night,” how creator Shonda Rhimes has said. “Yes, it is going to play into our season, but we’re not going to spend our time playing an election.”

KERRY SAG

She had to also get out of the house this past June 13 to collect her Actors Inspiration Award given at the SAG-AFTRA Foundation 7th annual L.A. Golf Classic Fundraiser in Burbank, California. She went with a floral light and airy Giambattista Valli bohemian dress with black and white heels from Sarah Jessica Parker‘s collection.

The next day, she broke up the black with white and was there for her friend President Barack Obama and his wife First Lady Michelle Obama when she spoke at the White House Summit on the United State Of Women June 14, 2016 in Washington, DC.  it was the White House’s first ever summit to push for gender equality.

KERRY JIMMY

Out of all her looks, I love the black ribbed flare dress she wore during a taping of  Jimmy Kimmel Live‘ on May 12, 2016. And I also adored the Brandon Maxwell cape dress she wore paired with Gianvito Rossi pumps in April at an event (see first image in above collage.)

Ed Hartwell Might Have Been Right About Waiting Before Having a Baby

hartwell and knight pulliam

Ex NFL player Ed Hartwell opened up recently about the reason he filed for divorce from his wife, child star Keisha Knight-Pulliam. During an exclusive with PageSix, he said that given their extremely short courtship of about a few months, he thought waiting longer to introduce a baby to the marriage was best.

“She wanted a baby really fast, and what I was trying to explain to her was that — from my beliefs, from seeing other successful people — that when you first get married, especially since we didn’t have a long courtship, that we should actually focus on each other and not just have a baby,” he said via Skype call with the gossip site.

The studies support him. Recent research states that couples that have courtships of 3 or more years are 39% less likely to get a divorce compared to those who date for 1 to 2 years; they are just 20% less likely to get a divorce. Couples that were together less than 6 months before marrying have the highest divorce rate.

“Couples who date for 3 years or more have better chances of staying together and a more stable marriage,” APlus summarized. “The findings mimic those of a 2006 study which found that couples who have dated less than 6 months before marriage had the highest divorce rate,”

Hartwell was also on point about spacing out babies. The average married couple in the United States wait three years into their marriage before having a baby.

Data from the U.S. Census Bureau and the Centers for Disease Control, state that American women are an average age of 26 when they get married and 29 when they have their first child — which varies from person to person. And this certainly doesn’t factor in older women.

At age 37, we can imagine, Knight-Pulliam didn’t want to take her chances on fertility as the older a woman gets the harder it is for her to have a baby without medical intervention and she was perhaps, anxious.

But Hartwell knows about the risk from his own personal history.  He was married before after a reported short courtship and he is now divorced from former Real Housewives of Atlanta star Lisa Wu.   Recently, Wu ripped into Knight-Pulliam for allegedly (according to Wu) commenting on Wu’s marriage to Hartwell on the show Hollywood Exes. She explained her concern was more for her 9-year old son with Hartwell.

“I’ve allowed people to assume as they wish and it’s been hurtful. But It’s no 1’s Biz & there is children involved. Not only her unborn child, but my 9 year old who can read very well,” she captioned a now deleted Instagram post.  Wu now stars on VH1’s Hollywood Divas.

Knight-Pulliam seems to have a large network of supporting family and friends, and may be okay. She was chilling pool side and showed a photo of her baby bump to her fans on Instagram lately. This could be captioned: #Unbothered

Sun-Safe Pokémon Go Hunting Tips for Parents

guest post

safe hunting

As a parenting expert, I face many questions from moms about what products are best for their kids in order to maintain healthy hair, skin and what they can do to make sure their children know the rules of the busy roads, especially when the summer heat becomes too overwhelming. As many kids are out utilizing their time trying to hunt their favorite Pokemon with the new, wildly famous game Pokemon Go, it’s very important to teach your children the fundamental basics of street safety.

Also, whether your kids face troubles with their hair and skin before or after they play outside, learning what to use to combat harmful UV Rays will essentially benefit them in the long run.  After years of trial and error, advice from other moms, and help from tried and true products and tools – I am here to offer some of the best tips and tricks I’ve found to make Pokemon hunting fun and safe as your kids spend their day outside catching ‘em all!

Look both ways before crossing, always.

  • It doesn’t matter if there are 10 cars or 1 car passing by, instill the importance of stopping and looking both ways into your kid’s head. Some cars are quieter than others and there could be blind spots in the road, so train them to use their eyes and ears before crossing the street.

Keep your hair in check.

  • It’s a challenge controlling children’s hair, especially in the hot summer heat. A curl refreshing spray can make sunny days easier because it will revitalize and hydrate curls and tame unwanted frizz that usually surfaces from the heat. Spray the refresher in their hair and throw it up in a ponytail – doing this will minimize distractions as it will keep their hair out of their faces and more aware of their surroundings! I recommend Design Essentials Coconut & Monoi Curl Refresher, which I can conveniently pick up from my local CVS and is kid-approved!

Know the signs.

  • It’s important to teach your children the meanings of traffic signals and signs at a young age, so it becomes second nature to them later. Take time to explain tricky signage so children know when they are approaching heavy traffic areas, highways or non-local roads, and animal crossing information.

One word: hydrate.

  • Staying hydrated is key to surviving the beaming summer sun, and catching Pokemon encourages a ton of kid-friendly fun in the great outdoors. It’s harder for your kid to pay attention if they’re suffering from dehydration and it can often result in dangerous situations that are best to be avoided at all times. Make sure your kids have a full water bottle in hand!

Sunblock saves the day.

  • There will be plenty of times where your kid will try to argue that “they don’t need to put on sunscreen.” While it can be a tedious task to slather on sunblock before going outside, coming home with tomato red skin can be a bit more annoying than not catching Pikachu.

Sidewalk to crosswalk

  • Even though taking shortcuts to cross the street seem more tempting than walking all the way to the pedestrian crossing, it’s better to be safe than sorry. Take the sidewalk to the crosswalk to ensure a safe passageway to you next Pokemon capture.

Pucker Up.

  • While we don’t think of it as often as hair and skin, your kids lips also deserve the utmost care while they’re out playing in the heat. Their lips are just as exposed as the rest of their body, so if they’re not SPF protected, heat blisters can pop up. Any lip balm is super easy to pack away in your kid’s pocket when they go out!

Listen, don’t just look.

  • Hearing vehicles coming is just as important as seeing them. Playing loud music is extremely distracting and mutes out any sign of a car coming towards you, so let your children know to keep their headphones out of sight at busy intersections.

If you can’t see the driver’s face, they can’t see you.

  • It’s equally as important to make sure the driver is paying as much attention as the person crossing the street. Assure that the driver has noted your child’s presence before they step on the gas.

Making sure your kids are sun-safe while playing outside can prove to be a challenge, and being a worried parent only comes with the territory. Implementing these tips and tricks into your children’s daily routine – especially before they prepare for a full day’s worth of Pokemon hunting – will help you and your kids as much as it has helped me and my daughter!

Target Launched its New Kids Clothing Line & A Bunch of Our Fave Celeb Moms were There

target cat & jack

Target launched its brand new kids brand at at Pier 6 at Brooklyn Bridge Park on July 21, 2016 in Brooklyn Borough of New York City on Thursday, July 21 and a bunch of our Bellyitch Bumpwatch alums, including currently preggers Blake Lively were there.

In addition to the second time mom-to-be, Camila Alves McConaughey, Jenna Dewan-Tatum and Rachel Bilson were in the house as well.

The brand is called “Cat & Jack” and is meant to be trendier and cool, based on feedback the Minneapolis-based retailer collected from hundreds of kids about what they want to wear.

The band includes uniform pants and leggings are all made with trademarked Tough Cotton that Target says actually gets stronger as it’s washed. And all Cat & Jack pocket bags, girls’ denim and swimwear are made out of a recycled polyester called Repreve. Nice!
