When Looking For That Perfect Maternity, Event or Vacation Photographer – Look Local

I am a member of several travel groups on Facebook and one thing that stands out to me are the elaborate photo shoots that many people arrange during their vacations.

A common photo is the flying dress photo in Santorini, Greece or on the beaches of Anquilla or Miami.

Many couples also arrange with local photographers on travel for quick photo shoots and not always for a formal occasion like an engagement.

For example, when a central Florida bride I read about named Jessica got engaged to her boyfriend Ryan, she wanted to return to Miami where here parents used to take her and her siblings to as a child. She went with Localgrapher because it seemed like they had a better understanding of what made Miami so special to me.

The same could be said of remote maternity shoots. It is best to take the time to find a photographer or team that knows the area where you’re going to be shooting in, as it will alleviate the stress of finding unique spaces in the town or city.

The Localgrapher option is cool because it has close to 1,000 local photographers in its network at over 600 destinations around the world that consumers can select from depending on their needs.

They come rated so it saves the stress and anxiety over not knowing if the quality is going to be okay. We usually trust the opinions and experiences of those who have used a service provider before and took the time to pen a good review.

I know I’m grateful for that.

The tide has turned when DIY or at home photography was sufficient to bring a vacation, event, engagement, announcement or baby arrival experience to life.

In the advent of social media and ‘The Gram, photography sessions are more accessible for more people and being opted into as the only solution for capturing those moments.

The entire game is changed.

Liz Lange Tips: This is How to Add Celebrity Style with a Maternity Wardrobe

celeb styles

As the pioneer of “maternity chic”, I’ve spent almost 20 years in the maternity clothing business, styling celebrities and forging licensing deals with Nike and Target, and the Liz Lange maternity line available exclusively at Target stores and Target.com. While pregnant celebrities often have the luxury to work with high profile stylists to  create the perfect look, my experience has taught me that any expecting woman can create an outfit that is comfortable, affordable, and maternity chic mixing high and low priced pieces… but it doesn’t hurt to have some inspiration! Here are my top five favorite celebrity maternity looks. How do you put together your own celebrity inspired style?

                                                                                                                                                                                              –Liz Lange

Rose Byrne – 1.  Classic

Rose is known for her graceful beauty and style with classically feminine colors and cuts. Her polished dresses and simple ensembles keep her looking elegant and confident.

Liz Lange Suggests:  A classic maternity wrap dress perfect for every stage of the pregnancy, and is a great way to show off that baby bump!

Jana Kramer – 2. Modern

For Jana, maternity wear was all about a modern silhouette.

Liz Lange Suggests: A cowl neck tunic top or maxi dress with statement making accessories for a confident look for any trimester!

Anne Hathaway – 3Casual

Anne’s laid back approach to maternity kept her comfortable without sacrificing cool.

Liz Lange Suggests: Achieve this look with an effortless fringed wrap shawl with a cropped jacket, or let accessories like scarves and hats do the talking with flowy tunics and stretchy leggings.

Cat Deeley – 4. Contemporary

Cat Deeley stunned on the red carpet at the 2015 Emmy’s in a body-hugging gold beaded gown.

Liz Lange Suggests: Take a page out of her book with simple and sexy pieces like this little black shift dress with sparkly shoulder details.

Chrissy Teigen – 5. Risk Taker

A pregnant Chrissy Teigen has never shied away from skin-baring maternity style while looking absolutely flawless. When she’s not sporting a low-cut v, or maternity bra top, Chrissy keeps it chic in of-the-moment pieces perfectly suited for any fashionista, pregnant or not.

Liz Lange Suggests:  Take a cue from Chrissy and stray from tradition with this body-con dress with horizontal stripes and mix it up!\

Good luck, preginistas!

Yes, Sexy Nursing Bras do exist…presenting Leading Lady (PHOTOS)

One of our bloggers works with new young mothers and she heard from one that she is struggling to find sexy nursing bras out there.
I was reminded of a photo shoot I personally shot with my iPhone a few years back featuring my baby sister who is also a part time model, Hawa Jay.
In the photos (above and below), Hawa is wearing a celebrity favorite line of intimate apparel called Leading Lady. The line makes comfortable, functional but still stylish and affordable easy-to-wear bras, camis and sleepware.
(note: we were provided all the bras for free for the review and we eventually gifted all unused ones to a charity for teen moms)
The family-owned business that makes the intimate wear has been expertly tailoring nursing bras and sultry bras for full-figured gals for over 70 years at retailers across North America.
They sell stretch, lace, wirefree and underwire bras that are supportive including seamless sport and yoga bras and cozy sleep and leisure bras.
Buy them directly at Leading Lady.com

STYLE: How to wear your hair to complement your body type

Whether you’re preggers or not, it’s always important to consider your body type when you get a new hairstyle. As a person who changes her hair often, I am always mindful to make sure a style works with my face too.
Over at A Mom in Red Heels,”  style blogger Tammy Gibson‘s personal stylist Angela Bethanie offered some great advice for what type of hair works best depending on  your body type.
I have an hour glass and the advice Betanie dispenses about hair best for my body type is accurate and makes sense:

Hourglass Body Type: facial shape is usually rounded- either oval, long oval or round

Long hair: Deep side parting with longer fringe. Layers and texture are your best friend! If tucking hair behind the ear leave a little hair in front for a more tousled look.

Short hair– always make sure to leave a fringe (think lots of texture). Product you must have: Spray wax works best, hour glass body shapes need balance from top to bottom and a spray wax can give you instant texture whenever and wherever needed!

Check out the rest of the post HERE for those of you who don’t have an hour glass figuresout there.

TREND ALERT: Plaid is hot again this FALL

I was not quite sure what to think about plaid, acid washed jeans and overalls trending again. I thought I left my grunge days in the 90s but alas, it’s hot again, seen on the runways plenty this Fall during various cities’ respective Fashion weeks.

What I do like about the resurface of the trend is the variety of ways it can be worn beyond just a collared button-down shirt. You can rock plaid scarves, tights, handbags and boots.  Of course, to avoid colossal fashion police no-nos avoid combining too many different plaids in one look and wearing it on more than one piece.
This rule is especially true if you are preggers. If you want to keep it simple, you can go with a basic plaid maternity dress or shirt if you are keen on staying current while baking your bun in the oven.

Have fun!

5 Essentials for a Maternity Wardrobe

You are pregnant, and starting to show.  The urge to run off to buy those adorable baby clothes, that have been beckoning you since the day you thought about starting your family, is hitting you.  But before you pick up that beautiful little baby hat, it is time to think about you and your new figure.  Which means that now is the right time to begin buying your maternity wardrobe.  UGH! The thought of buying elastic waist bands and oversized shirts and pants does not seem very exciting.  I remember putting on my first pair of maternity pants when I was only 4 months along.  At that time I thought, “These are Huge!  I will never be this BIG!” Oh how I was wrong, when 7 months rolled around, I wasn’t able to even fit in those pants that were supposedly too BIG.

I found this advice later in my pregnancy and now I am going to pass along the tried and true methods of maternity fashion of all the celebrity moms.  First off before you start piecing together your maternity fashion finds, begin with these five essentials –
Dark Wash Jeans
Maternity jeans have come a long way from the baggy, bulky things of the past. Today’s jeans are made with shape and style to get you through your pregnancy. Look for jeans with a dark wash and a straight leg or bootcut to help minimize your widening hips. Skip the mom jeans that come up over your entire stomach, instead find jeans that will hit you just above your hips for a flattering look. Remember, you will also wear these jeans after your baby is born while your body readjusts, so choose a pair or two that will look great no matter what.

Maxi Dress
A long, maxi dress looks great on pregnancy curves and is so comfortable to wear. Choose a long dress in a neutral, solid color that will look good no matter what. You can mix it up with a bold sweater, bright jewelry, or a funky diaper bag to get lots of wear out of your dress. A flowing maxi dress will also be very forgiving to your shape post-baby.

Empire Waist Tops
The empire waist top is perfect for pregnancy. The flowing look of these tops show off a growing pregnant belly at all the stages. You can wear them with basic jeans or more dressy maternity slacks for a look that fits in any occasion. The shape of these tops also makes them very flattering on the bust as it grows and changes during pregnancy.  One of the great benefits of the empire waist is that it stays in style and is very flattering for your recovering post-baby figure.

Elastic Waist Skirts
Skirts with stretchy elastic bands are a definite must-have for pregnancy. They are comfortable to wear no matter how big you feel, and the stretchy waist means no need to buy new skirts every other month. Grab a few skirts in various colors that will work well with any top.

Nursing Bras
Pregnancy can do a number on your breasts, making them feel uncomfortable in regular bras. Nursing bras are designed to be softer, stretchier, weight bearing with comfortable straps and much easier for tender and growing breasts. Even if you are not yet sure about breastfeeding, stocking up on nursing bras is still an essential for your maternity wardrobe. These will help reduce your back strain from the increasing load on the front.  This bra will be your mainstay of your wardrobe throughout your nine months and even beyond, so consider the quality that can last for at least two years for each pregnancy.
Now that your maternity wardrobe is planned and ready, you can go back to thinking about the world of flowered baby headbands, layettes, and nursery decor.
