Ciara Performs in Video for Pro Black Song ‘Rooted’ Days Before Giving Birth

Ciara debuted the video for her latest singe “Rooted” featuring Ester Dean last Thursday at midnight and in it, she appears very pregnant right before giving birth to her third child.

The visuals are stunning and feature dancers donning natural ethnic hairstyles like bantu knots, afros, braids and cornrows and messages of solidarity to the the late John Lewis who recently passed away, the Black Lives Matter movement and Black women and men who died in police encounters in recent and distant past.

The singer, who just gave birth to her third child, but second with husband RussellWilson, said she made the music video days before the baby’s arrival.

That is amazing because if you watch the video linked below, you will she was showing all of her very energetic dance moves and even did a twerk or two!

It is a powerful song and comes on the heels of the release of Beyonce‘s pro-Africa “Black is King” visual album that debuted on Disney Plus earlier in the month. I can dig it.

Her son, Winn Harrison, is featured in mom’sbelly but as are his older siblings, 6-year old Future and 3-year old Sienna who make cameos by mom who is donning a extra large afro, and grills with the word “Melanin” on them.

She is the latest celebrity mom to appear in a music video.

Katy Perry famously revealed her first pregnancy in the video for her song “Never Worn White” in March.  An as we  routinely report over the years as the institutional source of bump watch news on the Internet, Carrie Underwood, Cardi B, Natalie Portman, Beyonce, P!nk, Deborah Cox, and Whitney Houston all were in music videos while expecting.

Academy Awards Timeline of Bumps on the Red Carpet

In 2012, Adele welcomed her first child, son Angelo, and the next year, she won an Oscar for Best Song for the and explained having to express breast milk in the bathroom to relieve her engorged breast.

The “Rolling in the Deep” singer missed out on having to be heavily pregnant on the red carpet like several of her fellow A-listers in year’s past.

Oscar has played host to several heavily pregnant

In 1992, Susan Sarandon was almost due with her son Miles

whom she welcomed (with then-beau Tim Robbins) when she was nominated for her role in Thelma & Louise at age 47. (She didn’t win but was nominated 5 times and won Best Actress in 1996 for her role in Dead Man Walking.)

In 1998, Glen Close was 8-months pregnant when nominated for Fatal Attraction.

In 2000, four-time Academy Award nominee Annette Bening was nominated for her role in American Beauty at almost 8 months pregnant with her fourth child with husband Warren Beatty, daughter Ella.

In 2003, Catherine Zeta-Jones accepted the award for Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Chicago while almost full term with daughter Cary with husband .

In 2004, Marcia Gay-Harden was nominated for her role in Mystic River, while pregnant with twins!

In 2006, Rachel Weisz was 7-months preggers with her and

then-boyfriend Darren Aronofsky when she won the Best Supporting Actress trophy for The Constant Gardner.

In 2011, Black Swan star Natalie Portman was 6 months pregnant with her and her choreographer husband Benjamin Millepied,  first son, Aleph when she accepted her Best Actress award.

In 2014, although Kerry Washington was not nominated for an Oscar, she did attend, cradling the baby bump from her first child, Isabelle.

That same year, Chris Hemsworth ’s wife, Elsa Pataky  in 2014 wore blue sequins but maybe made a fashion mistake of wearing it under and not on top of her belly.

Carrie Underwood Joins Roster of Celeb Baby Bumps Featured in Their Music Videos

Carrie Underwood has joined the small legions of celebrity singers who released music videos while visibly pregnant.

In the video for her new song, “Love Wins“, underbelly shots of the country music phenom reveals her baby bump in an empire waist rose gown. In the emotional son, Underwood addresses a lot of hot-button political topics such as gun violence, politics, our very heavily divided world while offering the solution to it all: Love!

“Love is power, love is a smile[,]

Love reaches out, love is the remedy[,]

Love is the answer, love’s an open door[,]

Love is the only thing worth fighting for[.]”

Underwood,  announced last month she was expecting her second child with husband Mike Fisher.

Earlier this year, Cardi B dropped several videos off of her debut album “Invasion of Privacy” and her baby bump too was very much present.

A long time ago, women were hidden away when pregnant and certainly, they weren’t flaunted in the media or music videos. In modern times, beautiful pregnant women are featured prominently as with a very 9-month pregnant Natalie Portman, days before giving birth in the music video for James Blake’s  song “My Willing Heart,” released on Monday.

But she isn’t the first one. Beyonce, P!nk, Deborah Cox, and Whitney Houston have also appeared very pregnant in music videos for their songs

In 2011, Beyonce was pregnant with her daughter Blue Ivy in her Countdown Video. That year, P!nk was also visibly pregnant with her daughter Willow in her girls empowerment song “F*&>Perfect”.

Before then, Canadian -born artist Deborah Cox showed off her 3rd trimester belly in the later frames of her “Beautiful U R” video” which is also about female empowerment and self esteem.  Finally, Whitney Houston, was also uplifting women in her remake of Chaka Khan‘s “I’m Every Woman” and was pregnant with her daughter Bobbi Kristina. (RIP to both of them).

10 Books For a Healthy Vegan Pregnancy Like Natalie Portman’s

Bellyitch Rewind

Natalie Portman is in the news over her decision to have herself and her children follow a Vegan diet. The Black Swan actress first became vegan during her pregnancy, something that a lot of people consider a no-no.

She isn’t the only celebrity to be criticized for following a plant-based diet. A few year ago, actress Emily Deschanel got some heat by continuing with her vegan diet while pregnant last year.

However, despite concerns, remaining vegan while pregnant can be done safely with the consultation of a doctor and nutritionist and maybe also by reading up on some recommended books on having a well-rounded vegan diet.

She is not the only celebrity to stick with her vegan diet even while pregnant. Alicia Silverstone even wrote about her vegan pregnancy diet. Carrie Underwood, Natalie Portman and Allyson Hannigan  are vegans who softened up and switched to vegetarianism during pregancy.
A few years ago, The Happy Herbivore put together a post that includes a list of recommended books for having a safe vegan diet and pregnancy and here are the few we love the most, with a few added books:

So Natalie Portman had a 4-day old baby the night of the Oscars which was the real reason the actress missed this year’s February 26th Academy Awards.

A rep for the Black Swan actress told PEOPLE magazine that she and her choreographer husband Benjamin Millepied welcomed their second child together, a daughter they named Amalia Millepied on February 22.

On February 25th, her rep released a statement citing pregnancy for the reason Portman would have missed the Oscars and the Independent Spirit Awards which took place the day before the Oscars

“Due to my pregnancy, I am unable to attend the Independent Spirit Awards and the Academy Awards. I feel so lucky to be honored among my fellow nominees and wish them the most beautiful of weekends,” she said in the statement released by her rep Keleigh Thomas Morgan.

“Mother and baby are happy and healthy,” the rep told the Magazine this weekend about the state of the family.

Israeli-born Portman and Frenchman Millepied are already parents to 5-year old son Aleph. They were married in 2012 in Big Sur, California.

Congrats to the family!
