Emmy: Congrats to Shocked Winners Thandie Newton and Regina King

The Primetime Emmy Awards went down last night and in lieu of Red Carpet coverage, I’m posting to give a shout out to two of my Bellyitch Bumpwatch alums who won and were visibly shocked about it too: Thandie Newton and Regina King

Newton won for Best Actress, Drama, for her role on Westworld. During her acceptance speech, Newton wished her daughter a happy birthday, accidentally dropped the F-bomb, and then Thanked God…even though she might be an atheist.

“I don’t even believe in god but I’m going to thank her tonight,” said Newton.

Another fave, actress, producer and director Regina King looked shocked when she was announced as the winner of the Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for the TV show she brought to the little screen, Seven Seconds, about a woman whose son is killed in a cycling accident by a police officer, the cover up and the effect of the scandal on a little town.

King had previously won two Emmys in that category for her  work in ABC’s American Crime in 2016.

Watch her acceptance speech:

Not a mom, but I was a watcher and fan of the 1970s/early 80s show Happy Days, and so I was happy to see The Fonz, aka, Henry Winkler win his first ever Emmy Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for Barry at the age of 72.
The amazing moment came 42 years after he was first nominated for his role on Happy Days.

“I only have 37 seconds; I wrote this 43 years ago,” said Winkler, who has been nominated six times in his illustrious career. “Skip Brittenham said to me a long time ago, ‘If you stay at the table long enough, the chips come to you,” and tonight I got to clear the table.”

Yay! Congrats!

Thandie Newton & 12 Years’ Chiwetel Ejiofor to star in “Half Of A Yellow Sun” (TRAILER)

She just gave birth to her third child and first son, and now Thandie Newton will be seen on screens in the UK starting April 11 when her new film Half of a Yellow Sun opens in the UK.
She stars opposite Academy Award nominee  Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) in the film adaptation of the 2006 Orange Prize for Fiction-winning novel by Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
The film tracks the lives of four people against the backdrop of the 1967-1970 Nigerian-Biafran war.
There is no US date announced yet, but hopefully they’ll stagger the US release so it doesn’t suffer the fate of The Butler which got forgotten by Academy Awards and was locked out of nominations.
I could imagine just as some African Americans say they are exhausted with seeing movies about slavery become blockbusters here, how about the fact the movies that get Oscar buzz about Africa and featuring Africans are usually about historical conflict and war, such as  Hotel Rwanda and Blood Diamond, or about South African apartheid like  Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, Cry Freedom, Tsosti  and Sarafina?

Half Way is from the UK producers of The Constant Gardner (Gail Eden) and The Last King of Scotland  (Andrea Calderwood ) both whom did masterful jobs at capturing scandal and friction through complicated, complex yet deeply flawed characters and took home some Oscars in the process.
In any event, the previews look amazing! I hope it gets sufficient buzz and I cannot wait to see it when it hits US screens! I’m sure it would walk away with a few BAFTAs for sure!

NEW: Jay Z Drops Visually-Stimulating Celeb-Studded Futuristic Video for ‘Family Feud’ (PHOTOS and VIDEO)

If you follow this blog, you know I am a die-hard Beyonce, also a Jay and Bey fan and a fangirl of sci-fi and action movies so, I was quite geeked to immediately open up and peep the brand new video for Jay Z‘s song “Family Feud” off of his 444 album which melds all of my faves into one fantastical, visually-stimulating treat.

And I must say, the cinematography is on point….

All the Yeses to the Ava DuVernay-directed futuristic video which gives me “Black Panther” vibes, because it is set the year 2444 in a universe where Power‘s Omari Hardwick is the co-President of the Free World and is the direct descendant of the matriarch of a fantastical diverse group of women, dubbed the Fore-mothers, who re-configured the US Constitution in the year 2050 along with a pact called the “Confessional Papers”, per the prose in the video.

ETA: the director explained the video:

Westworld’s Irene Bedard plays a co-President

A Native American woman is the co-President played by Westworld’s Irene Bedard.

Yes to This is Us star Susan Kelechi Watson playing an adult Blue Ivy Carter who quotes her dad during that meeting saying “ Nobody wins when the family feuds,” a line from the song.

The Mindy Project’s Mindy Kaling heads the meeting

Yes to the union of leaders led by a character played  by a then-pregnant Mindy Kaling and featuring council members portrayed by ….

Claws‘ Neicy Nash, Angie Tribeca and Parks & Recreation‘s Rashida Jones, Room‘s Brie Larson, Marvel’s Luke Cage and The Defenders‘ star Rosario Dawson, trans advocate, journalist and and social commentator  Janet Mock, who are among the women who are tasked to lead the effort to set the world straight — as it should be because you know, given this “Me Too” era in the nation (and world), it really will take a small army of Women to do the job.

Fresh Off the Boat‘s Constance Wu

The Office’s Rashida Jones and Rosario Dawson, who stars in Marvel’s The Defenders, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage

Yes to the fictional president’s feuding for power family played by a Thandie Newton outfitted in a LeeLo from The Fifth Element-like bandage onesie  who fights with her brother played by Creed and Black Panther’s Michael B. Jordan .

Jessica Chastain cameos

David Oyelowo

Yes to the president’s ancestors saving the world from a time when “Make Us Great” meant make us fear one another!

America Ferrera is a warrior

Yes to Beyonce sitting on her throne on the other side of a Catholic confessional, metaphorically and literally, waiting to assign penance to Jay for reportedly cheating on her, as is referenced in the song.

Oh and yes to Blue making a cameo too!

From People:

All the celebrities who made cameos shared behind-the-scenes photos from filming once the video was released exclusively on Tidal.

This is far from JAY-Z’s first video featuring some Hollywood heavyweights.

He previously dropped the Friends-inspired clip for “Moonlight” with Tessa Thompson, Tiffany Haddish, Jerrod Carmichael and Issa Rae as well as the Lupita Nyong’o-starring “MaNyfaCedGod” and “Adnis” starring Mahershala Ali.

JAY-Z’s 18th studio album, 4:44, recently received eight Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year and Best Rap Album.

Which Designers Dressed the Celeb Moms of the 2017 Golden Globe Red Carpet

yellow-golden-globe

We love to keep track of the celeb moms that we covered on the blog while they were expecting their respective bambinos when we spot them on the red carpet at award shows and other former industry events.

This past Sunday, we spotted a ton of Bellyitch Bumpwatch alums and they all looked great! Some, like currently expecting Natalie Portman (in Prada), Kerry Washington (in Dolce & Gabbana and clutch, Sophia Webster shoes, and Niwaka jewelry); and Viola Davis  (above in sunny yellow Michael Kors Collection dress, Stuart Weitzman shoes, Harry Winston jewels, and Judith Leiber clutch.) were nominated, and Davis won for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in the movie “Fences”.

Others like, Reese Witherspoon (in Atelier Versace with Tiffany & Co. jewelry, Christian Louboutin shoes, and a Tyler Ellis clutch.) presented on stage.

We, like many other fashion sites and bloggers, noticed some clear trends such as the Yellow trend. Also, there were a lot of women in metallics on the carpet as well.
