Before You Think You’re Out There Alone in Motherhood, Read THIS!

Posted on May 14, 2018 May 14, 2018

Being a parent is one of those things that you can spend your entire life waiting for and still not be ready for when the moment finally arrives. The truth is that there really is no way to be fully prepared for the highs and lows of parenting. You’re going to go through more joy and laughter, as well as more frustration and exhaustion than you’ve ever felt in your life. It’s lucky then that there is so much advice out there for new parents to get their hands on. Many parents who might otherwise have felt utterly lost are able to both feel less alone and get some useful information thanks to the sheer volume of blogs and websites online these days. However, there’s no way that these kinds of places can give you all of the information you need and a lot of the time some incredibly important stuff ends up getting neglected. With that in mind, here are just a few incredibly important truths about parenting that you probably won’t hear anyone telling you any time soon.

You’re going to need a break from time to time

When your little bundle of joy finally arrives, you’re going to take one look at them and think that you’ll never want to leave their side for as long as you live. Well, get ready to kiss that feeling goodbye a lot sooner than you think. The truth is that every parent needs a break from their kids from time to time. Babies and even older kids are a lot to deal with and trying to do that on top of a lack of sleep, and a chaotic routine can often be enough to drive anyone round the bend. There’s nothing wrong with one of you needing to just head out for the day or taking a long nap while the other looks after the kids. You can’t be in parent mode 24/7.

People aren’t judging you as much as you think

Any parent knows, all too well, the feeling of when their baby starts crying or acting up in a public place. Whether it’s a store, a restaurant, or on a bus, it can often feel as though every single person around you is furiously judging you. However, that’s not the case nearly as much as you might think. After all, most people understand that babies cry, that’s just what babies do. The vast majority of people will either be ignoring you entirely or will have nothing but sympathy for you. The truth is that you’re probably a lot more worried about the noise that your baby is making than anyone else around you.

You’re going to hate them a little bit sometimes

Your baby is going to be the light of your life. They’ll bring meaning to your existence and will provide you with more joy than you knew you were capable of. That being said, they’re also going to make you want to bury your head in the sand for hours at a time. There will be moments here and there where you will really hate your baby. That might sound incredibly harsh, but the truth is that babies are difficult. They’re loud, they’re unreasonable, and they can often cry for hours for seemingly no reason at all. It’s okay to have those feelings of pent-up frustration, just don’t let them get to you. The best thing to do is just to walk out of the room for a while, count to ten, cool down, and come back in. Everyone hates their kids a little bit sometimes, and that’s okay because in an instant you’ll be right back to loving them more than anything in the world.

It’s okay to ask for help

Far too many people end up feeling as though asking for help with their kids is somehow a sign of weakness. They assume that if they can’t deal with their kids completely on their own, then they’re doing something wrong. The truth is that reaching out to the people in your life for help is one of the bravest, most responsible things that you can possibly do. Whether it’s friends, your parents, or even a babysitter, needing a bit of help here and there is totally understandable. After all, babies really do not come with a manual.

No one really knows what they’re doing

Do you ever feel as though you have no idea what you’re doing when it comes to your baby? Welcome to the club! Being a parent is often a lot more guesswork than many people let on. Sure, there are things you can research, but just about everyone has those moments where they just don’t know what to do. Whether it’s knowing what kinds of foods to start a baby off with, when to stop swaddling, or whether or not a dummy is a good idea, most parents are winging it just as much as you. The key is to give yourself break and avoid falling into the trap of assuming that you have to get everything right all of the time no matter what happens. If you ever feel like you’re completely lost, just remember that there  are thousands of parents out there just like you.

The most important thing to remember about being a parent is that every child is different. Things that work perfectly for some parents could well end up being completely useless for you, and vice versa. The same goes for the parents themselves, of course. It’s important to figure out the kind of parent that you want to be and, as long as you’re doing right by your little ones, you don’t really have to worry about what other people have to say. Looking around for advice is all well and good, but the last thing you want to do is to have to spend all of your time in a panic because you don’t feel as though you’re doing things exactly right.

15 Celeb Moms Celebrating Mother’s Day First Time

Posted on May 14, 2018 May 14, 2018

There were a lot of celebrity births over the past year which means yesterday, plenty of celebrity women we’ve “bumpwatched” and became moms for the first time ever were able to celebrate their first Mother’s Day.

One trend we noticed among this latest crop of first time moms: either they’ve concealed their babies from the spotlight, and laid low since becoming a mom or they’ve been all in, giving their babies their own Instagram or making them the star of the parents social media feed. No in between. All In or Nothing. Whatever floats their boat, we’re sure each had a great time yesterday celebrating Mom’s Day for the first time since their babies were born. Here is a run down:

International human rights attorney Amal Clooney and husband George Clooney are very private people, yet the arrival of their first set of children, twins —a boy named Alexander and girl named Ella— was big news  yet, the Clooneys have yet to talk about them in the public other than George revealing their first words were  “Mamma!”

Tennis legand Serena Williams and her husband Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian welcomed their daughter Alexis Olympia last September and now the duo are stars of an HBO docu series about her arrival.

Khloe Kardashian was one of three of the Kardashian-Jenner women who welcomed a baby this year. Her sister Kylie Jenner had her first baby while Kim Kardashian welcomed her third child via surrogate. She had managed to stay out of  spotlight since giving birth to True (with her estranged boyfriend NBA Cleveland Cavaliers star Tristan Thompson) in April 2017.

Four-time Olympic gold medalist Sanya Richards-Ross and and her two-time Super Bowl champ hubby Aaron Ross welcomed their baby boy, Aaron Ross II in August.

The youngest of the Jenner-Kardashian clan, Kylie Jenner  welcomed her daughter Stormi with boyfriend Travis Scott on February 1 and she did an excellent job keeping the entire pregnancy under wraps.

It was last Mother’s Day 2017 that Kevin Hart announced that his wife, Eniko Hart, was expecting their first child. Their son Kenzo Kash made his grand debut in November and every since he’s been one of the happiest babies around!

Bring It On star Kirsten Dunst also did a great job covering up the majority of her pregnancy and only revealed it when she was well into her third trimester while posing for an ad campaign. She welcomed a baby boy this month with fiancé Jesse Plemons and they too have yet to even discuss baby since he arrived.

On May 2, Jordin Sparks and her husband, model Dana Isaiah Thomas welcomed their first child together,  son Dana Isaiah Thomas Jr.  and the American Idol alum stunned everyone when she was spotted walking the red carpet just three days later. Wow!

Julia Stiles and her husband Preston J. Cook welcomed their son Strummer Newcomb Cook on Oct. 20, 2017. The Silver Linings Playbook star was recently “mommy shamed” for the say she carried her baby in a carrier but clapped back like a champ.

POWER star Naturi Naughton welcomed her daughter, Zuri in July 2017 and she too has been great about keeping her little one out of the public eye but we’re sure she is a looker like her mom.

The Southern Charm star Cameran Eubanks  had her daughter Palmer on Nov. 11, 2017. After celebrating with a hilarious shower, Eubanks has since shared lots about mommyhood on her Insta!

The Hills Babyboom

Lauren Conrad led the little baby boom of alums of the MTV show The Hills when she welcomed her first child, son  Liam, on July 5 with her hubbie William Tell. Since becoming a mom, she too has laid low but pops up once in a while to show off her mom power!

HEIDI PRATT

Heidi Pratt who was Conrad’s nemesis on the show and her husband Spencer Pratt also welcomed a baby boy named Guinner on October 12017 but unlike the others, they’re pretty out and open about sharing photos of him in social media.

Finally, Whitney Port had her first child Sonny with husband Tim Rosenman in July 2017 and was very transparent about the trials of pregnancy on her YouTube channel but looks to believe it was all worth it.

Shamari DeVoe

Former 90s bandmember and wife to New Edition singer Ronnie DeVoe, singer Shamari Stone DeVo  welcomed boy twins, Ronnie III and Roman last October. The boys are so popular they even have their own top social media Instagram account with tons of followers.

Mother’s Day: 5 Free or Low Last Minute Gifts She Will Love

Posted on May 12, 2018 May 12, 2018

Sometimes Mother’s Day can creep up on you, and before you know it you are panicking about what gift to get. Other times the budget just is not there to get the gift that she really deserves.

Here are some low-cost gifts that can be put together last minute to show Mom she is appreciated and if the day arrives and you realize that you forgot to send a gift or card to your mom who may not live close to you, there are always Hallmark eCards for Mother’s Day you can send .

1. Time to herself Moms are busy. They were many hats, and most of their time is dedicated to other people. So why not give mom a break? Take the kids for a day, so she can have a day off. Give her the time to pursue whatever she wants and make sure there are no unwanted interruptions. If Mom wants the day to go shopping, then make sure the car is not in the shop.

If she want to stay at home and garden, followed by lounging in the tub with a good book, make sure the kids are out of the house so there is not competition for the bathroom or soccer balls rolling through her plants.

P

One last tip, do not make Mother’s Day the day she gets off. This should be a separate day. A date that is agreed on in advance so that she can makes plans if she so chooses.

2. A weekend of sleeping in

For moms with young kids, sleeping in is a true luxury. Little ones are frequently early birds and one they are awake, there is no convincing them they should go back to bed. That can mean Mom is up early seven days a week corralling kids who have gotten a full night’s rest regardless of how many hours of sleep she has gotten.

Any sleep deprived mom will cherish the opportunity to have a morning to sleep in, but an entire weekend of sleeping in is gift gold. If you can slip out of bed in the morning before she has been roused by the kids and let her wake up to the surprise of a clock that has ticked past her normal time, all the better.

However, if you are a sound sleeper and are afraid you will not hear the kids first, or if she will still beat you out of bed, announce your intentions beforehand. That way, when Mom hears the first sounds of a waking child she can nudge you out of bed.

3. A surprise girls’ night out- Mom may have a routine with her girlfriends. Maybe they arrange playdates so they can hang out, maybe they work out sporadic nights out when they can arrange kids-free time. Maybe Mom has not seen her girlfriends in a long time due to distance or schedules, etc.

If she is a social butterfly, then try to contact the significant others of the rest of her social circle to pre-arrange a night when all “the girls” will be free. Then let Mom and her friends make their plans with the knowledge that there is no schedule juggling to be done.

4. Mix tape or playlist – This may seem like a cheesy thing from your high school days, but do not think cassette tape filled with sappy love-songs. Rather, put together a playlist that includes some of her new favorites, as well as a few favorites from specific points in her life, and then include a track or two of her kids singing. This can be something that give her on a CD, or maybe load it onto her mp3 player to surprise her.

5. Clean the house -In some homes the chores are split 50-50, in some maids do some of the basic cleaning, other moms dos the majority of the housework herself. Regardless of the percentage of routing cleaning tasks mom has on her plate, she will enjoy having a week where she will not have to do every single one of them.

Try to tackle the chores she dislikes the most first, and try to do as many as possible.

Happy Mother’s Day weekend y’all

Australian Sexuality Expert: Baby Should Give Consent to Diaper Changes

Posted on May 11, 2018 May 11, 2018

A leading Australian sexuality expert has ignited controversy after suggesting parents should be asking their babies for permission to change their nappies, in order to set up a “culture of consent” from birth.

Deanne Carson, founder of Body Safety Australia, made the comments during a segment on ABC news about teaching consent to young children, explaining that while she works with kids from three years of age, she also works with parents – of newborns.

Creating a culture of consent from birth, she noted, means asking permission before changing a baby’s nappy.

“I’m going to change your nappy now, is that okay?” Ms Carson said of her approach to infant consent. “Of course a baby isn’t going to respond ‘yes mum that’s awesome, I’d love to have my nappy changed'” the researcher, speaker and author continued. “But if you leave a space and wait for body language and wait to make eye-contact then you’re letting that child know that their response matters.”

Et Tu Padma Lakshmi: The ‘Top Chef’ Host Posts Breastfeeding While Glamming Photo

Posted on May 11, 2018 August 2, 2020

Breastfeeding while getting glam has been done before and most recently,we learned that Padma Lakshmi did it too in a throwback Thursday post she made this week on her Instagram page.

“This is a shout out to working Moms everywhere!! #TBT” the Top Chef host captioned a photo of herself putting on mascara with curler in her hair while her then newborn daughter Krishna, who is now 8-years old.

What makes hers different than the 12 other times celebrity women have shared a breastfeeding while working photo is that she was doing her own makeup. Go girl!

Also learned while researching this piece: she was not sure who her daughter’s father was at the time because she was romantically involved with both the late IMG CEO and billionaire Teddy Forstmann, who died in 2011 at age 71, and Adam Dell, brother of Dell Computer founder Michael. She admitted this fact a couple of years ago inside her memoir, “Love, Loss and What We Ate.”
