jimmy-kimmel
Girls Trip breakout star Tiffany Haddish told a hilarious story on Jimmy Kimmel Live! about taking Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith, her co-star in the summer hit movie, to a Cajun swamp store using a Groupon deal.

It was such a great story and told with such authenticity and charisma that the rising actress-comedienne has gone viral. Watch it here if you missed it!

The video is also a gem because of the fact that the multi-millionaire mega duo was clueless as to what a GroupOn is! I’m not sure if the folks at GroupOn have seized upon all the free publicity of the fun segment yet or not, but I would!

And for my readers who do not know, this blog is partners with Groupon and we’re excited to let you know that the site, most famous for offering deals, has branched off to a new service where it curates coupons and other offers from leading merchants!

You can search for awesome deals from big box home improvement stores like Home Depot and get $5 off coupons and lawn care deals that are good nationwide or at participating stores.

Haddish story was about adventure attractions.  Best of Orlando is another merchant offering free Universal Studios and Disney World Tickets  and 25% off the cost of a ticket.  Anyone who has been to one of those theme parks in Florida are aware that they are price at over $100 a ticket so as you can imagine, getting $25 off is a deal!

Wanderlust frequent travelers and thrill vacationers should check out the deals at Bookings.com and Hotels.com where I spied free one night stays and more!

Terminally Ill British Infant’s Parents Give Up Battle with Hospital

img_8948

The 11-month old terminally British baby whose parents were in a legal battle for rights to transfer him to the US for experimental treatment have decided to end their fight.

“It’s too late for Charlie,” the family’s lawyer said about the legal battle over the experimental treatment. “The damage has been done.”

Since March, Connie Yates and Chris Gard, parents to baby Charlie Gard, battled with the hospital caring for their son.

The medical staff assessed that Little Gard’s genetic deformity that he was born with was irreversible. The parents were not willing to give up on their son and sought to transfer their infant to the United States to receive experimental treatment pioneered by Dr. Michio Hirano, a neurology expert from Columbia Medical Center in New York.

The Great Ormond Street Hospital argued that  the infant was in pain and further treatment would only increase his suffering. They asked the court for permission to pull the plug. In Great Britain, children’s rights are separate from their parents and it is common for courts to intervene when the wishes of parents and the medical team diverge.

Another Tennis Baby: Andy Roddick and Brooklyn Decker Are Expecting Their Second

deckerroddick

Tennis is quite fertile these days.

Luxembourg star Mandy Minella and tennis star Serena Williams are expecting babies this year. Then there is record-breaking world class Roger Federer who is the dad to two sets of twins.

Add former Number 1-seeded Andy Roddick to the list as he and wife actress Brooklyn Decker are expecting their second child together.

Earlier today, while being inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, R.I., the 34-year-old thanked his mom Blanche, late dad Jerry, his son Hank, his wife, and most notably, a daughter to come, E! News reports.

“Brook, I don’t know how you juggle it all… You hear a lot of guys find it very tough to walk away from professional sports, but you are the reason my personal transition into a quasi-everyday life has been gratifying and full,” the tennis star said during this acceptance speech. “Hank will someday realize how lucky he is, and our daughter that’s coming will also realize she has the best mother on Earth.”

The couple welcomed their son Hank on August 2015. The pair have been married since 2009.

Grab Your Ultimate New Parent Baby Gear Cheat Sheet

The cost of having a baby is high but part of the expenses include purchase of unneeded products that new parents don’t realize they don’t need until it is too late.

Research study states that it will cost you around $5,000 to cover the cost of baby essentials in its first year.

Disposable diapers alone cost at least $400 over 12 months!

It’s a good idea as a new parent to conduct research into what products and items you will need to invest in and which you can just skip and pass on

The folks at Unboxery.com polled 100 mom bloggers and came up with a very handy and resourceful infographic with a simple checklist to guide you through the problem that you can check out below:

Report: Millennials Struggle to Find Affordable Childcare

parents-mi

Millennials are the first generation in modern history to have higher poverty rates and lower incomes than their two preceding generations, two major impediments to buying a home, raising a family, and pursuing more appealing career options.

Yet those two economic challenges are exacerbated by the rising costs of child care. “Quality, affordable child care is critical for all families, including millennials often just beginning their families and careers,” said Lynette M. Fraga, Ph.D., Executive Director of Child Care Aware® of America.

Key findings of the report include:

  • In 17 states and D.C., it takes at least 50 percent of millennial’s income to pay for infant child care in a center;
  • Millennial parents with two children (one infant and one 4-year-old) need to allocate at least 45 percent of their income to pay for center-based child care;
  • The government standard for affordable child care fees set by the Department of Health and Human Services is less than 7 percent of family income, yet across all states, the average cost of center-based infant child care exceeds 25 percent of the average median income for millennials—with Massachusetts, the highest at 68 percent.

Pew Research Center defines millennials as youth and young adults born between 1980 and 1997. Many of these young adults are in the midst of planning their families or are already raising children. These young parents juggle various demands in order to provide the best future for themselves and their families.

Millennial parents typically fall into two groups: those who are new graduates just beginning to start a family, and those who are returning to school, or hoping to return to school, to acquire a higher education after having a child or children. Both groups are struggling to afford and access quality child care.

“Our analysis shows child care is simply not affordable for millennial parents,” said Dionne Dobbins, Ph.D., Senior Research Director at Child Care Aware® of America. “Those with young children and those looking to start a family have to account for the expenses of maintaining a home, a child’s needs, and education related costs.”

Data reveals roughly 40 percent of student parents take on full-time work, and approximately half are unmarried—highlighting a population with a high demand schedule and lack of additional support for child care within the household. These parents also fit more into a single day than others; in fact, it has been estimated low-income young parents work the after- midnight shift at a rate three to four times higher than their non-parent counterparts, one illustration of the need for nontraditional hours for child care services that is often unavailable and result in parents relying on informal markets which can be dangerous.

millennials

Solving the deepening problem is not only an issue of concern for millennials, it is crucial for our economy. A Forbes article covering a Standard & Poor’s report states with millennials not purchasing homes, the U.S. could be missing out on $49 billion a year through 2019. In addition, if student loan defaults increase, the economy could be at risk since the federal government provides more than 85 percent of these loans.

As the debate on the President’s new budget begins on Capitol Hill, it is imperative that child care’s irreplaceable role in the American dream be recognized and supported. We propose:

  • Increasing significant federal investments in child care assistance for eligible children and increasing quality improvement efforts. We recommend an increase to the Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG) Act of 2014 by $700 million in the FY 2018 budget. This ensures that CCDBG can be effectively implemented and families do not lose child care assistance.
  • Expanding the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit (CDCTC) to help all families cover the rising cost of child care.
  • Increasing funding for the Child Care Access Means Parents in School (CCAMPIS) program, a U.S. Department of Education discretionary/competitive grant to qualifying institutions of higher education for low-income parents pursuing postsecondary education, despite granting nearly $15 million to 85 institutions in 2015.
  • Providing paid leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and expand FMLA to cover all workers. Unfortunately, current law only stipulates unpaid leave for those who work in companies of 50 of more employees.

“As we see more young parents look to pursue a higher education as well as new graduates trying to start families, the need for child care is paramount,” Dr. Fraga said. “Child Care Aware® of America is committed to the mission of advancing a child care system that effectively serves all children and families. In working toward our vision, where every family has access to high-quality affordable child care, it is important to evaluate the issues facing our newest generation of families.”

Serena Williams Got Great Pregnancy from Twitter

img_8882

Ask and you shall receive!

Tennis legend Serena Williams tweeted out a request for advice about her pregnancy.

On Tuesday, Serena tweeted, “Any tips on how to turn over at night? I’m having trouble from going from my left….to my right….to my left side.”

She got lost of great feedback!

She can consider our fave advice from Parenting.com:

Get Support

Maternity bands support a growing belly. Wearing one during the day takes stress off your back, groin, and middle so you’re less achy at bedtime.

Use Extra Pillows

To ease pressure on your hips when trying to sleep on your side, place a body pillow between your legs.

Watch Your Diet

Eat small, mild meals to prevent fullness and the pain of reflux. Pass on the caffeine — it can make you pee.

Williams and her fiancé  Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian are expecting their first child together later this year.

Good luck, Serena!

TTC COUPLES NOW HAVE NEW NATURAL SUPPLEMENT OPTIONS FOR MEN

mobile-forest-2448103_1280-1

Innovation in over-the-counter supplement is helping situations when the male partner may be the cause of a couple’s infertility.

In America, an estimated 7 million couples struggle with infertility.  Don’t get caught up in the misinformation out there.  And there is plenty of it. You’re not considered infertile after just a few months of trying to conceive (TTC) unsuccessfully.

TTC spouses and partners are considered infertile after they try to have a baby for at least six months, if they are over 35 years old, or for at least a year, for those under age 35.

There is usually one culprit that causes infertility for prospective would-be moms.

“In women, a common cause of infertility is Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), a hormonal imbalance that can cause irregular and sometimes no ovulation,” says Michael Krychman MD, a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist in Newport, CA

knit-2469094_1280

According to the PCOS Foundation, PCOS may be responsible for 70 percent of infertility issues in women who have difficulty ovulating.

Self-diagnosis or internet diagnosis are not good ways to get to the bottom of the reason why you cannot conceive.

It’s best to seek the intervention of the medical community and consider lesser invasive options before jumping into more invasive procedures and options like IVF (intravenous fertilization) or other procedures.

Fortunately, there are non-prescription natural therapies on the market, Krychman recommends, and supplements you can pick up at your Wallgreens, CVS drug store like Pregnitude which is one of the common ones for women.

And from the company that makes Pregnitude, comes Evolution60. It is a brand new, just released non-prescription fertility support dietary supplement for men. (available online for now).

Listen, there is actually science behind some OTC options, and for Pregnitude and Evolution60, in particular, they contain nutrients that have been shown in clinical studies to support fertility.

cells-1872666_1280

For example, there is a substance that naturally occurs in our bodies called myo-inositol that we can also take as a dietary supplement in a daily pill to boost fertility health.

By now, it has been pretty widely known that we (both women and men) require ample doses of folic acid to maximize fertility health.

But, seriously, who also knew folic acid was actually a form of  B vitamin that promotes cell growth, and in therapeutic doses can promote menstrual regularity, ovulatory function and higher quality eggs? I didn’t I always assumed folic acid was its own supplement.

toys-1284070_1280

But if you’ve been TTC for a while, you know healthy eggs are key to getting and staying pregnant, so I’m thinking it makes sense that we get sufficient support for those eggs.

The struggle is real. No really.

And a lot of times, we hear about fertility options for women, but in the case for a lot of couples, it is the male partner who is the cause of infertility.

baptism-547222_1280

For some reason, it is more unspoken.

In men, being older, certain aspects of their lifestyle, environmental factors and certain medical conditions they may have can affect their reproductive health.

Men too need nutrients like myo-inositol, selenium, folic acid, Vitamin E, L-carnitine and L-Arginine, and if it’s not naturally occurring in the body, supplements are the way to go for optimal support!

Dr. Krychman states “if a patient is having trouble getting pregnant due to cycle irregularity, I’ll first recommend that she should consider trying Pregnitude- which contains these ingredients in therapeutic doses, but adds “women and men should always consult with their physician before taking any vitamins or dietary supplements and should get proper medical work ups if fertility concerns are problematic.”

And now it looks like men have options as well finally with OTC supplements like Evolution60.

Bravo for science, innovation and options!
