Lauren Conrad is Babymooning and Bared Her Bump for the First Time

not Lauren Conrad’s feet

Even though Lauren Conrad was first famously known for being a cast member of the MTV docu-series Laguna Beach and The Hills, she has since branched off to become a very popular lifestyle brand and personality on her own right, complete with her own self-named label that sells clothing, shoes, bedding and accessories.

Her Instagram page reflects a dreamy, feminine, soft and dainty aesthetic and it’s concluded that she has her own filter. So it comes as no surprise that I should be scrolling through my feed and would cast my eyes upon her perfect babymoon photo. Complete with the quintessential beach “hot dog” legs shot, but with her also revealing her bare bump for the first time.

“Babymooning and pretending my blended lemonade is a margarita,” she captioned a photo posted this week.

Conrad has remained low-key and elected not to bombard her followers and fans with a lot of pregnancy progression photos. She announced this past January 2017 that she and husband William Tell, were expecting their first child. That month, she penned a piece on her blog giving advice on things people shouldn’t say to pregnant women.

Conrad co-founded Paper Crown and has a Kohl’s line, LC by Lauren Conrad.

Check out the bump:

‘Power’s Naturi Naughton is Expecting Her First Child

img_3852

Singer and Actress Naturi Naughton was in middle of shooting the fourth season of her hit STARZ show Power when she discovered that she and boyfriend Ben were expecting their first child.

The original member of the now-disbanded girl group 3LW exclusively told PEOPLE that  as soon as she shared the news with the cast and crew, they went into protection mode.

“They’ve been really good at keeping it on the low, but they’re also super excited,” she says. “Omari [Hardwick], who plays my husband, we have kids on the show and he’s like, ‘Now you get to be experiencing motherhood in real life!’ Everyone’s been really supportive.”

Naughton, who is also known  for her standout role as “Lil Kim” in the Biggie Smalls biopic Notorious, said she’s been having a good pregnancy so far.

“It’s been a little surreal, but I feel really good, healthy and strong,” she told the magazine.“I feel like being pregnant and entering this new stage has made me stronger and more excited about life in general. Everything seems so much more purposeful.”

img_3853

The production crew had to be creative about concealing her bump since a pregnancy wasn’t in the script.

“I had maternity jeans they ordered for me, and I do a lot of tops that are peplum-style,” says the New Jersey native who got her start singing in the same church Whitney Houston sang at in her youth. “I was amazed at how un-pregnant I could look.”

She also talked about being a healthy eater but giving into pregnancy cravings.

“I love kale, I love strawberries and pineapples, but I’m not proud of this … I’ve been eating Cup Noodles. I really want salty, spicy things, and Cup Noodles has been really awesome. I haven’t had one since college!”

After being a platinum selling artist, touring alongside Destiny’s Child, Dream, Nelly, Eve, and Jessica Simpson, and a solo artist, and having a a stage role on the Tony-award winning play “Hairspray“,  roles on Mad Men and the movie Fame a reoccurring role on The Client List opposing Jennifer Love Hewitt, Naughton is prepping for a whole new challenge when her baby arrives in July.

“It’ll just be a great summer to enjoy motherhood and this journey to motherhood,” said Naughton, who is steep in picking out nursery colors and nesting. “It’s a really amazing responsibility, but it’s such a blessing and that to me is worth more than anything I can imagine.”

Godspeed, mama!

You Can Totally Have a Family Garden in The City; Here’s How

img_3847

Gardening as a family cannot only help you reduce your carbon footprint, pass along the ideals of sustainable living to your children, and save money at the grocery store, it can also help you forge even stronger bonds with your family through your shared goals.

When you live in an urban setting, however, starting a family garden requires a bit more creativity than it would in a rural area. Though you will have to work with what you have available and consider the best ways to customize your garden to your family’s specific situation, it’s absolutely possible to bring the seasonal bounty from your garden to your table, even in the city.

img_3849

Container Gardening – If you’re lucky enough to have a patio or balcony, you can start a family gardening project by growing food in containers arranged around the available space. Limited or a complete lack of lawn space doesn’t have to hold you back, especially if your patio, porch or balcony receives an adequate amount of sunlight each day. Provided that they have proper drainage holes, almost any container you can think of can be used to grow edible plants, so don’t be hemmed in by the traditional planters available at your local home and garden store.

Raised Beds – Small urban lawns often have poor soil, making them a less-than-ideal growing environment. If you’re plagued with moles, low-quality soil or other woes and still have available lawn space, consider investing in raised beds. They’ll allow you an enormous amount of control over the soil because you’ll be filling them yourself with purchased topsoil and fertilizing agents. Don’t let weak soil deter you from growing food and establishing a collective family hobby, just purchase or build your own raised beds!

Community Gardening Programs – In many major metropolitan areas, city-dwellers with green thumbs come together and share a plot of land for a community gardening plan. Do a bit of research on the local level to determine what, if any, programs exist in your area. If you have trouble finding one it may even be worth your time to establish one yourself.

Rooftop Gardens – Rooftop gardening is a popular option for those who have access to their own roofs and have obtained permission to plant there. Depending on the type of roof you have, there are several options for establishing a thriving ecosystem of edible plants right on your rooftop. If you’re lucky enough to have access to a flat, enclosed portion of a condo or apartment building rooftop, the area should even be safe enough for young children to come help, provided that you’re vigilant about supervision.

Companion Planting – Some plants can have symbiotic relationships that allow them to flourish more when they’re sharing a container or planted close to one another than they would separately. Because companion planting allows you to place your plants closer together than you would otherwise, it’s a great way to make the most out of your available container, raised bed or small urban plot space. After you’ve decided what items you’d like to grow, it’s easy to determine which plants do better when they’re together.

Square Foot Gardening – Square foot gardening is one of the single most effective ways to get the most from a small vegetable garden. You’ll need to use raised beds that are densely planted, well-composted and carefully maintained. The practice is especially well-suited to small, urban gardens where space is at a premium.

img_3850

Think Vertically – While the word “garden” may initially bring images of carefully plotted, well-spaced, horizontal rows to mind, this doesn’t always have to be the case. Consider inverted planters hung on hooks, rows of greenhouse-style shelving and other vertical planting methods to make the most of your space. For instance, canvas closet organizers designed for hanging over doors and holding shoes can make excellent compartmentalized, vertical herb gardens, as the porosity of the fabric allows for adequate drainage without being too flimsy to support the weight of soil and plants. Remember, you’re only limited by your imagination!

It’s wise to join an urban gardening co-op in your area, an online community or other gardening group for great space-saving, city-gardening techniques. These groups can be especially valuable for beginning gardeners, who are facing the challenge of urban gardening while also battling their lack of experience. When your children help to cultivate and maintain the family vegetable plot they’re more likely to be eager about eating the fruits of their labor, which can be a serious bonus for parents that struggle to get their children interested in healthy eating habits.

Inside Beyonce and Jay-Z’s $500,000 Ultra Luxe Nursery for the Twins

note: not Beyonce’s nursery

Of course Beyonce and Jay-Z have reportedly already spent a half a million on an ultra luxe nursery for the twins.

Matching cribs, rockers and designer sheets for $30,000? Of course. A $50,000 state-of-the art sound system? Check!

Sources to Life & Style magazine share that the superstar couple are going all out.

“Bey and Jay knocked out a wall between two bedrooms to create a master suite-size nursery inside their LA home,” says a source. “The twins will have matching cribs and rockers and designer sheets totaling $30,000, plus a $50,000 state-of-the-art sound system.”

And yes to the twin babies having something fantabulous to look at as they drift asleep.

“She commissioned a $20,000 mural on the ceiling, complete with glowing stars,” the source told the gossip magazine. “It’s incredible. It’s the entire galaxy above the nursery.”

The nursery will also feature custom walk-in closets, a fireplace, and a movie theater.

This is par for course for the multi-Grammy winning platinum-selling power couple. They spent $1.8 million on gifts for Blue Ivy before she was even born, reports said at the time, including a $600,000 rocking chair.

They are expecting at least one boy, insiders leaked.

“They’ve only felt comfortable announcing it because she’s so far along, and they’ve gone through all the genetic testing and everything is great,” the insider said. “Jay has wanted a boy since their daughter was born. Their wish is coming true.”

Beyonce broke Instagram and shattered the social media image sharing website’s “like: record when she announced this past February news of the twin pregnancy. It’s close to 11M now.

Study: Breastfeeding Doesn’t Make Babies Smarter After All, This Does

img_3817

A new study casts doubt on whether breastfed-kids are smarter than their formula-fed peers, though it does note there are benefits to breastfeeding babies including reduced hyperactivity.

The study, published in the journal Pediatrics, finds that while kids between 3 and 5 years old who were breastfed as babies scored higher on cognitive tests than their counterparts, the difference was not that significant.”We weren’t able to find a direct causal link between breastfeeding and children’s cognitive outcomes,” Lisa-Christine Girard, an Irish researcher who authored the study, told NPR.

Socioeconomic factors and the overall behavior and environment of a child contribute to a higher cognitive ability, the study found. When the researchers accounted for those factors, it was harder to link breastfeeding by itself to smarter children, NPR reports.

The researchers did, however, note that the breastfed kids were less hyperactive by age three if they had been breastfed for six months as a baby. But by age five, the impact on hyperactivity appeared to fade.

The party was held at a private home in Los Angeles where a tent was set up overlooking the city’s gorgeous skyline of bright green trees and blue skies. Inside, the tent was lit up by pretty string lights and big balloons that were adorned by gold and silver fringe. A dining area was formed in the shape of a square with balloons filling the space in the center and cute trinkets—like gold elephant statues, massive flower arrangements, candles and books—covered the table.

A Pesticide linked to Kids’ Brain and Nervous System Damage Just Got Ok’d for Use Again

herbicide-587589_1280

Here is more reason to buy organic if you can afford it.

Yesterday, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Wednesday reversed an Obama administration recommendation to ban a pesticide linked to nervous system damage in children, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Newly installed EPA administrator Scott Pruitt signed an order that would allow farmers to continue using chlorpyrifos, which is sprayed on more than a dozen crops, including tree nuts, soybeans, corn, wheat, apples and citrus, writer Geoffrey Mohan pens.

For over 15 years, Chlorpyrifos has been banned from consumer products and residential use because the science suggest that it can hamper children’s cognitive development. A UC Berkeley study found that 7-year-old children in the Salinas Valley who were exposed to high levels during pregnancy had slightly lower IQ scores than their peers. A Columbia University study showed similar effects at lower exposure.

In 2015, former President Barack Obama’s administration vowed to adopt a “zero tolerance” policy for residue of that chemical on food, essentially ending its use indefinitely.

But Pruitt undid that yesterday.

A nonprofit group called Pesticide Action Network said the USDA buckled under pressure from corporations like DowAgroSciences which makes 5 to 10 million pounds of chlorpyrifos, which are used each year on crops across the nation.  The chemical is an organophosphate, a class of chemicals originally designed as a nerve agent weapon.

Eek!

“The new administration’s agency ignored their own findings that all exposures to chlorpyrifos on foods, in drinking water, and from pesticide drift into schools, homes and playgrounds are unsafe,” Schafer said.

The USDA says the science is inconclusive and removing the ban frees up farms to not interrupt their crop seasons.

“This frees American farmers from significant trade disruptions that could have been caused by an unnecessary, unilateral revocation of chlorpyrifos tolerances in the United States,” said Sheryl Kunickis, director of the USDA’s Office of Pest Management Policy. “It is also great news for consumers, who will continue to have access to a full range of both domestic and imported fruits and vegetables.”

Again, like I said.

More reason to buy organic if you can afford it. If not, wash your fruits and vegetables  thoroughly before eating.

We’re a Bumpwatch Blog so We’re Gonna Keep Posting On Amal Clooney’s Maternity Style

add22d72-0450-450a-82f7-b4b0b734233a

Mainstream news organizations were admonished for commenting on human rights lawyer Amal Clooney’s baby bump when she delivered remarks to international organizations.

But Bellyitch has always been about bump watch fashion so we’re gonna keep on doing us.

And we love the wife to actor director George Clooney‘s exploratory play with color in her wardrobe.

While delivering remarks during an event titled “The Fight against Impunity for Atrocities: Bringing Da’esh to Justice” at the United Nations headquarters, March 9, 2017 in New York City, she opted for sunny yellow. It was International Women’s Day at the time.

This past, Wednesday, March 29, the svelte Arab American was pictured arriving at Chatham House in London to give a speech on war crimes in Syria and Iraq in a crimson dress under a camel coat.

And earlier in the month while visiting The Secretary-General Of The United Nations Antonio Guterres, she wore a navy blue knot dress on March 10.

We did notice that for a woman carrying twins reportedly in her third trimester or end of second, she is awfully tiny and carrying small.

The bellies of most  moms pregnant with twins are three times the size of Amal’s.

All women’s pregnancies are different, after all.

These 6 Tips will Make Your Spring Break Road Trip Go Smoother

boy-478187_1280

During Spring Break, a lot of families take the opportunity of having a week off from school to visit family or travel to various destinations by car. Before going, there are a lot of things things that must be considered, purchased and packed. Juan Carlos Daetz of Maxwarehouse, an online home improvement center that delivers products, offers these 6 Spring Break road trip tips for a safe, organized and stress free tips.

1. Schedule a Service Check on Your Car. Before you take off on a car trip, take your car for a trip to the service station for a tune up. A well-maintained car will be more reliable and safe. Check the oil, power steering fluid, windshield wiper fluid, transmission fluid, and brake fluid. Also check your tire air pressure, have tires aligned and replace if necessary. Have your brakes checked and get brake pads replaced if needed. Lastly, check your lights to make sure all are working—including headlights, high beams, brake lights, turn signals and reverse lights.

2. Pack Emergency Items. In the event of an emergency, make sure your car is well-stocked. Start with a first aid kit. Also, make sure to pack extra water and cell phone chargers. Keep the following stashed in your trunk—jumper cables, flairs, blankets, water, fire extinguisher, mini tire compressor, basic tools, rope/bungee cord, and a flashlight. Your trip will likely go off without a hitch, but it never hurts to be prepared.

3. Plan Your Accommodations in Advance. Always book hotels or make overnight arrangements ahead of time. Spur of the moment travel can be fun, but usually not when traveling as a family. Spring Breaks are a busy time and many hotels book full during this time. Planning ahead also gives you the opportunity to research the area a bit and make sure you are staying in a safe part of town. You can also make sure you get the amenities you’re looking for such as a pool for the kids, gym or continental breakfasts.

4. Bring Healthy Food & Snacks. Pack a small cooler with lots of healthy, easy-to-eat snacks so you’re not at the mercy of a gas station, convenience stores or fast food chains. Depending on where you are in the trip, you can go many miles without running into anything and end up with hungry, cranky kids which can make a long road trip even longer.

5. Road Tripping with Kids. Schedule plenty of restroom breaks along the way. Allow the kids to get out and stretch. Focus on the journey, not just getting to the destination. Make it fun by stopping at points of interest to take pictures and learn about the sites along the way. It doesn’t have to be the Statue of Liberty, kids love seeing World’s Biggest Ball of Yarn or the Corn Palace.Take along travel games, audio books, movies, art supplies, electronics, and tell stories or sing to make the time pass more quickly. The kids can scrapbook or write about the trip when they return home.

6. Childproofing for Your Destination. Whether your destination includes staying at a hotel, friend’s house or with family, bring along electrical outlet covers and travel baby gates to protect your child in a new environment. Be aware that cribs or play yards provided by hotels may not meet current safety standards. If you have any doubt about the safety of the crib or play yard, ask for a replacement or consider other options (for example, put a mattress on the floor).

Good luck parents and have a safe trip!
