Kimberly Caldwell’s Suave and Eclectic Maternity Shoot

kim caldwell formal

Kimberly Caldwell, best known for being a finalist on the very first American Idol, and her hunky husband Canadian soccer star Jordan Harvey recently took some pre-baby maternity portraits and the results are stunning.

Our fave is a photo (above) of the couple decked out in all black formal wear.

“To kick off entering the third trimester, we posed for our maternity photos with Kari Heese, my friend and owner of the boudoir studio, Lux Portraits, that I am lucky enough to do hair and makeup for in Vancouver, B.C.,” Caldwell told PEOPLE magazine.

“It was so empowering to celebrate my bump and own my new curves,” the part-time TV personality and host added. “The best part was not having to suck in standing next to my husband and his abs!”

The photo Caldwell, who is also a leather handbag maker, is talking about is the very cute one featured exclusively on PEOPLE last week with her wearing yellow BoHo harem pants and her husband showing off his athletic pecs and a very rad arm tattoo.

Nice.

Caldwell is in her 33rd week and is entering the homestretch. She announced the pregnancy earlier this Spring.

Before you Use that Internet-enabled Baby Monitor, Read THIS

Several of the most popular Internet-connected baby monitors lack basic security features, making them vulnerable to even the most basic hacking attempts, according to a new report from a cybersecurity firm.

The possibility of an Unknown person watching their baby’s every move is a frightening thought for many parents who have come to rely on the devices to keep an eye on their little ones. In addition, a hacked camera could provide access to other Wi-Fi-enabled devices in a person’s home, such as a personal computer or security system.

The research released Wednesday by Boston-based Rapid7 Inc. looks at nine baby monitors made by eight different companies. They range in price from $55 to $260.

The cameras are often mounted over a baby’s crib or another place where they spend a large amount of time. They work by filming the child, then sending that video stream to a personal website or an app on a smartphone or tablet. Some of the cameras also feature noise or motion detectors and alert parents when the baby makes a sound or moves.Continue reading

Get the Look: Kourtney Kardashian’s Red Jumpsuit

kourt k red balmain

I am getting ready for my birthday weekend and still scrambling for that perfect outfit to wear to various events I will be attending and using as an excuse to celebrate another year of life.

After watching our Posh Mom Style Icon for 2015 winner Kourtney Kardashian wow in a fire engine red plunging neckline Balmain jumpsuit this past Sunday at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California, I think I’m going to shift focus and hunt for a jump suit! She accented the look with a Cartier cuff and gold box clutch.

I usually stick with black because it is so slimming but this mom of three who looks to have been watching her diet and hitting the gym lately have me inspired to go bold! Here are some picks of red jumpsuits I found over at our partners at Shopstyle Collective.

This School Year, Adopt this One Parent-Child-Teacher Accountability Tool

school success tp

The best way to keep track of your child’s work and progress this school year is by having students keep daily logs for both teachers and parents to track and monitor.

This was one of the superb suggestions given by one of the 12 Top Teacher thought leaders and bloggers from around the world that Global Education Publisher CMRubinWorld curated.

“What teachers must do for parents is instigate student learning logs (in any format) and raise the incentives for parents to be involved in them,” said Head of Technology at at a New Zealand High School and education blogger Richard Wells. “Documenting learning allows parents and teachers to recognize it and this raises learning’s status in the mind of the child. Parents need to be made aware that becoming participants in this recognition they will raise the achievement of their own children with only small but regular gestures and comments.”

We agree.

Through a log, a parent will not have to be surprised at the end of the marking period or semester to learn their child has had missing assignments or incomplete projects. A log would eliminate that surprise element.

Also, getting to see what the child is up to daily helps the parent be an active participant for accountability. If a mom knows that her son has a report due in a week, she can ask him to work on it or tear him away from video game playing and take him to the library to focus and work on the project. Kids hide assignments from their parents sometimes to avoid getting nagged about completing them.

With a daily log system in place, no more surprise! Even if your child’s school or teacher doesn’t have a formal log system in place, parents can ask about implementing their own system.

Bravo!

Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer is Expecting Twins

Tech industry website TechCrunch reminded us today that although it is Not gossip site TMZ and doesn’t cover celebrity news, it is making an exception in the case of Yahoo! CEO Marisa Mayer who announced today that she and her husband are expecting twins. This is her second pregnancy.

So it’s tech news…sort of.

“Mayer leads a major technology company and is a high-profile woman working in tech, so naturally many of her decisions — and particularly how she balances work and family life — are noteworthy. Certainly, carrying — and then caring for twins — in addition to a highly charged CEO role at a prominent tech company in transition (and raising an another child) is quite the workload.”

TechCrunch doth protest too much, me thinks.

Mayer caught much flak for announcing before the baby was born that she planned to take two weeks maternity leave.

Then, she got even more grief for building a nursery addition to her office so she could take her baby to work.

Thing is, she did this months after banning Yahoo employees from working remotely.

Doh!

It was also an “I told you so” moment for us who didn’t think it would be possible for a woman, who has options and is in a position of power,  to just leave her baby after two weeks.

High profile business women like Mayer and Ivanka Trump, who also announced a 2-week maternity leave, usually reverse course after baby comes & realizing that it really isn’t that easy to do, emotionally, if not physically.

They don’t want to be treated differently from their male counterparts so they overlook things like the factbreastfeeding and bonding can’t be done remotely and they, and their baby need time.

As women, they are not like men, at all!

For Mayer, it was disconcerting to some that she later decided to tie her kid to her work, but also perplexing because as CEO, she has flexibility of a luxury that regular employees don’t enjoy.

But in 2013, after she had her first child, she was one of 42 female CEOs, 4.2%, of fortune 500 and 1000 companies.

So back then and now Mayer is held to a different standard.

How to Use Aromatherapy to Fight Morning Sickness

aromatheraphy morning sickness

Aromatherapy has therapeutic impact for fighting morning sickness. It is said that wearing certain scents on the wrist or other pressure points can help satiate the feeling of queasiness, light headedness, dizzying and nausea.

Personally, essential oils like lavender, chamomile and jasmine were my go to scents to wear on my wrists when I was expecting. Whenever, I would feel squeezy, I’d put my wrist to my nose and inhale deeply.  That was great at work during the early months when I still was concealing my pregnancy. It saved me loads of trips to the restroom or giving myself away because I would be so green.

The makers of Vera Essence sent me a vial of its 100% Pure Perfume to check out and I must say it did remind me of a combination of the oils I used to use and rely on to stay on balance during my first trimester of pregnancy.

The sample I received came in a tube with a roll on ball which made it easy to apply to the wrist and was small enough to fit in my purse or carry in a pocket. The oil is chemical-, toxin-, gluten-, alcohol- and animal cruelty-free and is handcrafted by Zorica in Malibu, California.

Vera Essence features essential oils that together produce a nearly addicting elixir that invigorates your senses like roses sources from Bulgaria, lavender sourced from France, and rose geranium sourced from Egypt. Rose sourced from Bulgaria is the highest-quality rose essential oil available in the world today. 65,000 petals are used to produce one single drop of this luxurious oil A simple whiff is enough to discern the authenticity of Vera Essence‘s unprecedented purity.

The fragrance blend invigorates the senses but in a good way because they are so overpowering that they mask any food being cooked in the office microwave or waffling down to your office from a co-worker’s afternoon snack that could send you off to visit the porcelain Gods!

If you’re experiencing extreme morning sickness, whether in your first trimester or later months, consider giving Vera Essence or some other sort of essential oil or blend a try.

Let us know if it works for you too!

A source close to the couple that has dated since early last year told ET that the two  already tied the knot in a secret ceremony.

He is dad to 4-year old Madilyn Grace Smith and 3-year old son Mason Evan Smith with his former fiancee, actress and reality TV star of Vh1‘s Atlanta Exes Monyetta Shaw.

The news is getting mucho hate in Ne-Yo’s IG comments because Shaw has shared that, when together, the couple decided to no longer have any more children and she went through with having permanent “burning” of her tubes and can no longer have any more children with another man if she wanted, meanwhile he’s having another kid.

How You Are Your Child’s Role Model

you your child's role model

Even though you may not think your child idolizes you, the reality is that she is watching your every move and mimicking your actions. From toddlers to teens, children look to their parents for guidance, as examples and more importantly, as role models.

“Children learn by observing and one of the things they spend observing the most is their parents,” says Christina Steinorth, California-based psychotherapist and author of “Cue Cards for Life: Thoughtful Tips for Better Relationships

“. “With this in mind, it’s very clear why children look up to their parents as role models.”

Understand Yourself

Serving as the role model, secretly or openly, is a huge responsibility. What your kids see, hear and experience from you, they will likely mimic, says Dr. Fran Walfish, California-based psychotherapist and author of The Self-Aware Parent: Resolving Conflict and Building a Better Bond With Your Child.

“Self-awareness is the key to becoming a better role model,” says Walfish. “Understanding yourself gives you choices and when you choose to respond in a specific way, rather than respond automatically, situations more often than not resolve themselves favorably.”

rolemodels

In fact, according to Walfish, research supports the fact that a child who was parented negatively has a high likelihood of parenting her own child in the same manner. Role models can be either positive or negative.

In order to know yourself as a parent and serve as a positive role model, Walfish recommends the following:

  • Understand how and in what ways you are similar to your parents
  • Examine yourself so as not to automatically repeat mistakes your parents made
  • Be aware of your feelings, moment to moment
  • Slow down your reactions: Reflect before speaking or taking action
  • Speed up your internal thinking process: First think “How do I feel?” and then think “How is my child feeling?”
  • Self-evaluate so that you can make good, educated choices about how to raise happy, emotionally thriving children with good self-esteem

As you learn your own parenting style and how your children observe and interpret your behavior and actions, Walfish suggests that self-awareness will bring comfort and lead to calm parenting.

Teach by Example

As your child is observing your every move, take this opportunity to model the behavior you want to see develop.

Even as young as the toddler age, parents can use their position as a role model to their advantage. “This is the best age to start teaching frustration tolerance,” says Steinorth. “If your toddler has a temper tantrum, role model patience in your response to the temper tantrum.”

For example, Steinorth suggests using calm words to express how you relate to what the toddler is feeling. Show the connection between the two of you. “If you need to run errands with your toddler and your toddler starts having a tantrum because he or she would like to go to play at the park instead, rather than showing anger and frustration over the tantrum, in a calm voice role model patience by saying something like ‘I’d like to go play, too, but I need to do some work first. Once my work is done, then we can go play,’” says Steinorth. “A phrase like this also starts the very basic teaching of work comes before play.”

As your child ages and develops maturity, your job as a role model is even more important. This is an opportunity to teach your child about sincerity, generosity, values and morals, says Steinorth.

“If you would like your children to learn about giving back, role model the behavior by volunteering with them,” she says. Bake cookies together and spend an afternoon taking them to a nursing home to share the goodies with patients. Pick a holiday and help out at a homeless shelter preparing and serving meals.

“Volunteering helps children think outside of themselves, which helps teach them empathy,” says Steinorth. “When they see that you enjoy giving to others, they will follow in your footsteps.”

Unveiling the Secret

Even though your presence heavily influences your child, she may not always be willing to admit this fact. Don’t take it personally, says Walfish. This is just a sign that your child is establishing independence from you, even though she is always observing you.
