Trend Alert: Round Bold Statement Sunglasses

round sunglasses
You don’t have to like all the trends that come into fashion each season. As a person with a round face, I tend to stay away from sunglasses with round frames. So personally, I will be skipping out on the round statement sunglasses trend this Spring and Summer. The cool style has been spotted on some famous faces of late.
How about  you? Round Sunglasses: Are you a fan or no?

Jessica Simpson planned and showered her sister Ashlee Simpson Ross at her home with a few close friends this past Tuesday. Simpson Ross is expecting her first child with her husband since last August, singer Evan Ross (Diana Ross‘ son).

Simpson, our two-time Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum,  posted a photo of the gorgeous table setting on her Instagram account with the caption, “Another gorgeous tablescape by @casadeperrin to shower @ashleesimpsonross and @realevanross,” the fashion mogul wrote, alongside a photo of the too-perfect setting. “#BabyLove.”

Simpson Ross’ friend Odette Annable also posted a photo of the event on her account with the caption, “Girlfriends make everything better,” the Astronaut Wives Club star wrote on her Instagram. “Celebrating our beautiful friend @ashleesimpsonross.”

“It was beautiful weather and her house was the perfect setting … so gorgeous,” a guest told PEOPLE magazine, “It was very chill and almost like just a get-together than a traditional shower. It wasn’t focused on games [and was] more like a big party.”

Simpson Ross, who went to the event in a Bohemian look, is already mom to son Bronx Mowgli, 6, with ex-husband Pete Wentz.

Review: Sophie La Girafe makes baby skincare now!

sophie the girafe

For 53 years, the French originated Sophie La Girafe has been a tried and trusted teether that generations of mom have given their babies with much success.  This Spring, the brand is branching into the organic skincare for baby business.

The line of products, formulated for baby’s with sensitive skin, include face creams, body lotions, baby oil, bubble bath and hair and body wash, and a starter kit in travel size.  Sophie La Girafe skincare is not just organic but also free of GMO (genetically -modified organisms), allergens, gluten or nut. It’s 100% vegan product and ranges in price from $18 to $22, depending on the product.

We were sent the $24 starter kit to review and here is what our reviewer, mom of 10-month old cutie pie named Teddy had to say:

Product Review: Sophie La Girafe Baby – Starter Kit

We love our Sophie La Girafe teether. We’ve had one since my three year old was a baby and a family friend in Canada sent it as a gift. “All my grandkids have one,” she said. “And Teddy is like another one of my grandkids.” So I was really happy to see that Sophie has branched out into baby products. Here is my review of the samples.

Face Cream – Unscented. It was nice and thick. Makes me wonder if there was SPF in it because it was definitely formulated for a baby’s dry skin.

Body Lotion – Unscented. Medium texture and consistency. Not as thick as the face cream. Went on smoothly and a little went a long way, surprising since it was not as thick as the face cream.

Baby Oil – Unscented. a bit runny and messy. Now that a number of manufacturers are making baby oil gel, I’m surprised that Sophie had such a messy product in its collection.

Hair and Body Wash – Slow to lather which meant I was able to get it on a squirmy 10 month old in the bath tub. Also, there wasn’t much foam and suds, which means no worries about it getting into his eyes. Really like this compared to other baby hair and body washes.

Our ratings:

Buy – Sophie’s Hair and Body Wash and Face Cream

Gift – Body Lotion

Passing up – Baby Oil

Woman charged with murder for taking abortion pills she bought online still faces charges

kelissa jones

Murder charges against a woman who took an online abortion pill to terminate her 5 1/2 month pregnancy have been dropped, but she still faces other charges

Kenlissa Jones broke up with her boyfriend and according to  her brother could not afford an abortion the traditional way.  She opted for purchasing the prescription drug Cyotec from a Canadian pharmaceutical company. The four pills Jones took induced labor and she delivered the baby in the back of a neighbor’s car on the way to the hospital

Hospital officials alerted authorities and police threw Jones in a Dougherty County jail and charged her with malice murder and possession of a dangerous drug.

An attorney for the National Advocates for Pregnant Women predicted the case would be thrown out. Lynn Paltrow, who is also the group’s executive director told The Guardian that Georgia case law explicitly prohibits prosecuting women for foeticide involving their own pregnancies.

Jones’ brother Ricco Riggens told the Washington Post that Jones gave birth to another child earlier who was taken away from her and given to another family member.

Riggens, who lives in Alabama,  gained custody of Jones’ first child, a  20-month old child she delivered almost two years ago.

He is described at sobbing over the still born death of his nephew.

“These past four days, I cried buckets of tears; I cried in that lady’s office for a long time,” Riggins told The Washington Post. “It was gut-wrenching..I hate it. I just really, really hate it.”

Jones still faces charges for misdemeanor possession of a dangerous drugs, Doughtery County District Attorney Greg Edwards told the Associated Press.

Riggens said he doesn’t think his sister is aware of the consequences of her actions and her mother Brenda Jones said her daughter is mentally unstable.

The ‘Huxtables’ of the NBA: Mom-to-be Ayesha Curry, Steph Curry & Riley

huxtables of the Nba

Move over  Savannah Brinson and LeBron James  fam and the Adrienne and Chris Bosh family, a new super cute wholesome NBA family is taking the spotlight.

Ever since, Golden State Warriors guard Steph Curry brought his daughter Riley into the post-game presser and she charmed the pants off audiences, people have been digging the Currys.

But dude! They are seriously the Huxtables of the NBA right now. Even though Steph’s nickname is Chef Curry, it turns out his wife is also a Chef Curry! Ayesha Curry is a blogger,   and vlogger, who also hosts her own YouTube cooking show, while also peddling her own olive oil occasionally during webisodes.

The duo, joined by then 1-year old Riley, starred in a fun ESPN short recently.

ESPN’s Cooking with the Currys

And Steph is not only the ultimate daddy and family man, he’s also a hands-on philanthropist. Since becoming a spokesperson in the “Nothing But Nets” charity which provides mosquito nets, crucial for warding off the virus infecting pests, he delivers them himself.  He’s been an active spokesman and had donated one net for every three pointer he makes during the season. Now that’s a cool dude!

The fam is expecting its newest arrival, baby number 2, in about 5 1/2 weeks.  We can’t wait to meet the newest member of this adorable family!

MetroDad’s 25 Life Lessons from a Dad to his Daughter

metro dad

‘MetroDad’ Blogger Pierre Kim and his daughter

In honor of Father’s Day which is coming up, I dug up this fab post from dad blogger Pierre Kim, a husband and dad to tjhree  NY City fashion exec who used to write the hilariously funny and snarky, “MetroDad” blog.

His post “The Rules: 25 Life Lessons for my Daughter” is a must read.

Here are my fave rules among the list:

  1. When posing for any photos, assume that the only people who will see them are me, your mother, your boss, and the dean of admissions.
  2. Never date a man who is rude to waiters, doesn’t say “bless you” when you sneeze, or won’t offer you his jacket when you’re cold.
  3. Don’t worry about being popular. The “weird” kids are much more fun and will end up being your most interesting friends. Also, when it comes to friends you can’t trump quality with quantity. Choose wisely. Who would you call to drive your white Bronco?
  4. Give charitably, generously, and anonymously.
  5. Keep your eye on the ball and follow through, both in sports and in life.
  6. Never regret staying home alone with a good book.
  7. Learn from the bad as well as the good. Fall down, make a mess, break something occasionally. And always remember that the story is never over.

Read all 25 in Metrodad!
