We Want you to Have This Exquisite $100 Baby Blanket by Pappe Luxury Children’s Clothier (WIN)

pappe-kid-assesories

I am a firm believer in the benefits of spending an extra penny to purchase quality and well constructed clothing for children that are durable and will stand the test of time….and the wash.

As I’ve pointed out before, it ultimately ends up costing more to buy cheap clothing for children on the pretense that they grow so fast that there is no value in purchasing expensive items for them anyway.

pappe toddler

Though this is not the case for all low-cost brands, many of the hems in cheaper clothing start to unravel quickly after one wash or one rough and tumble play at preschool. They are often not double or triple-stitched and therefore become tattered fast. Further, the color in cheaper clothes do not always stay true even when you use color-stay detergents created to help the dyes in clothing last longer and not fade after a few washes. Less expensive or less quality clothing start to look old and start to pill.  They then get cycled down to the play clothes drawer shortly after spending a few weeks in the school or nice outings closet. Choosing practical clothes for kids does not have to be that difficult.

kid-jumper

When you run your fingers across a top-notched garment,  you notice there is a rich texture and it also looks plush, sharp and elegant.  That can be said about a new Australian label called Pappe which was founded by Karena Simpson, a fashion-forward mom of two who wanted to blend traditional old world European stylings with modern aesthetics.

pappe design

Indeed, the luxurious world-class fabrics that make up the baby, toddler and children’s clothes in this line include Scottish cashmere, organic Turkish cottons and pure wool blends and tweeds.  Despite the exquisite nature of the fabrics, Simpson seemed to have known as a mother that practical clothing matters most!

So she kept it simple and incorporated unisex colors like greys, browns and navy with tartans and stripes.  That way, the clothing, which has a heftier price point, can become heirlooms.

But because they are designer label-level of quality, they will endure. And they can really be used as an heirloom and be passed down to other children or family members.

This is true of Pappe’s blankets which are made from luxurious cotton poplin yarn in a brushed finish with a jacquard weave. The Ottley Twill Blanket is multicolroed on one side for a whimsical touch and can blend in any nursery, serve as a coverlet to a pram or a go-to wrap for nursing baby on the glider.

And you can own your very own Pappe blanket which retails for $89 US ($129.95 AUD)!  Pappe is gifting one fortunate Bellyitch reader her or his very own gorgeous Ottley Twill Blanket with a Jaquard weave to have or gift! Nice!

Yeah You can Wear a Cropped Top in the Winter; Here’s How

cropped top

I love sweaters and layers. There is no better way to combine both than by wearing a cropped sweater layered under a knit or collared shirt in the fall or winter. It’s unexpected but a cute fashion look. Here are 8 ways to mix and match pieces while wearing a cropped top.

If Hillary Wins, We Expect Her Right-Hand Aide Huma Abedin to Bring it…Fashion Wise, that is ( LOOK!)

huma look

Thursday night was the 6th Republican Presidential Debate. I couldn’t watch it because  I was working, but while doing some preliminary reading about it,  I did notice that Vanity Fair did a piece on a political Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum recently.  No, not currently preggers Chelsea Clinton, but her mom Hillary Clinton’s longtime aide, Huma Abedin.

huma6

In his piece writer William Cohan asks whether Abedin, who is married to former New York rep Anthony Weiner, will be an asset or hindrance to the former Secretary of State’s campaign to become the next president of the United States.

huma 2

Cohan explores how Abedin is so good at her job that she is indispensable and was able to survive the scandal of her husband being disgraced after revelation about inappropriate social media exchanges with young women. She is the ultimate DC VIP.

huma 4
I’m not sure Hillary could walk out the door without Huma,” Cohan quotes Clinton adviser Mandy Grunwald, who told Vogue’s Rebecca Johnson eight years ago that Abedin is “a little like Radar on MASH. If the air-conditioning is too cold, Huma is there with the shawl. She’s always thinking three steps ahead of Hillary.”

It was an interesting piece that you can read HERE if you want to learn more.

Abedin is featured in a Glamour feature on the women behind the 2016 Presidential campaigns

I’m just using the opportunity to revisit the statuesque and very fashionable Washington insider for the sole purpose of showcasing again that fab spread Vogue did on her back in 2007 before giving birth to her first and only child, a son, 4-years ago. Remember this:

Fab!

If Clinton does in fact win, Abedin may also survive the extra scrutiny that comes with being the right hand to a party nominee. (She had to testify in the Benghazi hearings  last fall and was previously accused as having ties to the controversial Muslim Brotherhood).

She’s set to become the second most important woman in the world. She would be  like Valerie Jarrett to President Barack Obama.

Anyway, fashion-wise, we expect her to bring it.  We’re here for it. All of it!

The 2016 Golden Globes brought out the glamour and glitz as the Hollywood Foreign Press Association set out to honor the top talent in film and television at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, on Sunday, January 10.

As usual, we highlight the celeb moms we’ve covered in the past who we spotted receiving and presenting awards and shining on the red carpet during arrivals.

A fave of ours, Tarji P. Henson, won her first Golden Globes for her supporting role as Cookie Lyons in the hit FOX drama Empire and another past feature Kate Winslet took home the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in the movie Steve Jobs

Viola Davis presented and was up for a win for Best Actress in a TV drama as was Regina King who had a nod for her role in American Crime. Davis lost to Henson and King lost to the upset of the night, Lady Gaga for her role in American Horror Story: Hotel.

Jennifer Lopez,  Olivia Wilde, Bryce Dallas Howard, Kate Hudson and Maggie Gyllenhaal presented awards.

Here’s what (and who) everyone wore starting with bold colors worn by (above) Olivia Wilde in form fitting sequinned wine-colored custom Michael Kors Collection with quaint and cute vintage Bulgari jewels and clutch with  custom dyed Aldo shoes; Jennifer Lopez in a caped and draped mustard-colored Giambattista Valli accented with Harry Winston jewelry, Jimmy Choo shoes, and a sizzling silver Judith Leiber clutch; Taraji P. The 2016 People’s Choice Awards Fashion, Stage Crashers and Sheryl Underwood Oh My!

People's choice

Yesterday was the People’s Choice Award and we were excited to learn that many of the celebrity moms we’ve covered in the past win! Kristen Bell won for Favorite Female Cable Actress.  Sandra Bullock won for Favorite Movie Actress. Ellen Pompeo and the Grey’s Anatomy  cast won for Favorite Network TV Drama  while Sara Gilbert‘s The Talk walked away with the Favorite Daytime Talk Hosting Team.  Britney Spears won for favorite female Social Media celebrity. Hillary Scott and her Lady Antebellum won for Favorite Country group and finally Carrie Underwood won for Favorite Country Female Singer.

the talk

While Gilbert was giving her speech after being presented by Long and others, she was interrupted by a random dude who crashed the stage to promote his album.

“Wow. Thank you so much! This is amazing,” the new mom started. “I think we think of ourselves as kind of the oddballs of TV or we’re like a motley crew…” She stopped short before the stage crasher grabbed the mic.

The guy, Zicario Nicasio, was charged with a misdemeanor, E! reports.

On the red carpet, other of our past Bellyitch Bumpwatch moms sizzled. Christina Milian wore a floor length low cut sequinned dress. Kate Hudson looked sharp in a White with Jimmy Choo clutch, Brian Atwood shoes and Jorge Adeler earrings.  Sequins was the thing and I loved Nia Long‘s black sequinned Tom Ford dress.  Claire Danes looked dainty in a Burberry dress, Jimmy Choo, Kwiat jewelry and Tyler Alexander clutch.

My fave look was Ellen Pompeo in  Michael Kors Collection blouse and skirt with Kwiat jewelry, Christian Louboutin shoes, and a Tyler Alexandra clutch!

Fun Times!

How to Fake the Celeb Pregnancy Glow (A Step by Step Guide)

pregnancy glow

We share the secret of getting a beautiful pregnancy glow out of a bottle!

Theoretically pregnancy is meant to make you glow, its a biological ‘fact’. The increased amount of blood that’s circulating around your body is meant to give you a beautifully flushed look and as your skin retains more moisture and produces more sebum you’re meant to be glowing with a luminous dewy sheen – sound familiar?

Don’t worry if not, the combination of nausea, lack of sleep and sensitive skin experienced by many mums-to-be doesn’t lend itself well to natural radiance. Thankfully its easy to fake it – we explain how to get that ‘movie star’ pregnancy glow and only you need know its not real!

Step 1 – The Start

The first place to start is on the inside, drinking 8 – 10 glasses of water a day will do wonders for clearing your skin and helping to flush out water retention too. A good prenatal vitamin combined with a balanced diet that includes plenty of fruit, vegetables and omega rich foods will help too.

Step 2 – The Cleanser

Whether you suffer from dry, normal or oily skin its important to wash your face thoroughly twice a day. Using a gentle exfoliater such as Botanics In Shower Facial Polish will help to remove dead skin cells and improve circulation, banishing dull skin for good.

For best results apply in circular motions with your fingertips and rinse off with lukewarm water. Patting rather than rubbing your face dry can also help prevent blotchy skin and spider veins as you’re less likely to break the tiny capillaries that sit just under the surface of your skin.

Step 3 – The Moisturizer

Using a good moisturizer after cleansing is a must for gorgeous glowing skin. Massaging a fragrance free, sensitive moisturizer such as OZ Naturals Facial Moisturizer  into your face and neck will really help to give your complexion a lift without irritating your skin. If possible it’s best to go for a moisturizer that contains an SPF factor to protect your skin against the sun’s harmful rays especially as this can also help to reduce the likelihood of chloasma (brown patches) developing.

Step 4 – The Base

Blend a light base into your skin with your fingertips. It’s specially designed to conceal dark circles and skin imperfections with minimal effort so you needn’t spend hours blending for that flawless finish. Tinted moisturizers and foundations like stila Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer SPF contain light reflecting particles are also great for giving that dewy, smooth finish we all wish we had naturally.

Step 5 – The Blush

Recreate that gorgeous flushed look and perk up a grey complexion with a swirl of pink blush on the apples of your cheeks. A slightly shimmery, rosy color is always a good bet as it fakes a really healthy glow in an instant. I like Bobbi Brown’s Shimmer Brick because it accommodates all complexions.

Step 6 – The Highlighter

Blending a peach toned highlighter along your cheek and brow bones will really help to lift your look and mimic that pregnancy sheen in seconds. You only need to use a dot and you’ll be able to recreate that ‘slept like a baby look’ on the sly. MAC’s Primed for Perfection Prep + Prime Highlighter brings a soft, sheer wash of color to the skin and goes on smoothly.

Step 7 – The Mascara

A sensitive mascara in black/brown will be gentler and more flattering on tired eyes. Curl your eyelashes first for a really wide awake look. You can’t go wrong with the old drug store fave, Maybeline’s Great Lash that usually runs under $5!

Step 8 – The Lips

To top off your gorgeously glowy look a sheer lipstick is a must. Go for a shade that’s as close to your natural lip color as possible as this will really help to finish your ‘natural’ look. Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip is a light gel that has a plumping effect.

So, now you’ve faked radiant, glowing skin all you need to do is smile and pretend that you feel as gorgeous as you look!

The Denim Maternity Dress has Been Reinvented

maternity dress

This is not your mom’s maternity dress. Since more designers and labels finally started making chic, stylish and fashion-forward clothing for pregnant women in over the last decade or s, the maternity wear scene has never been the same. Women who are expecting now have a wide array of options from every price point that can be purchased at specialty boutiques like A Pea in the Pod, Motherhood Maternity and Japanese Weekend or in big box stores like Target.

The mini maternity dress has seen its reinvention into something spectacular as well. With denim always in trend, a cute denim maternity dress is a must have for any mom-to-bes wardrobe.

I like the shirt wrap dress that our Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum Jaime King designed for A Pea in the Pod’s luxe essentials line. The long sleeve dress comes with a removable neck tie and is made of a soft cotton. It retails for $148.

In the lower price range, ASOS has some pretty cute pieces including a fab denim A-line shirt dress for $76. I love a shirt dress because it is a classic and effortlessly chic piece.  The dark denim is perfect as it can be dressed up if worn with kitten heels or wedges or dressed down with ballet flats, canvas shoes or boots.

Finally, I had my eye on ASOS’ denim western shirt dress which is made of 100% cotton and designed to fit through all stages of pregnancy. At $76, that is a worthy investment considering it can be rocked all 40 weeks and after!

OMG! We loved Teyana Taylor’s Funky Maternity Style

teyana taylor style

Teyana Taylor and her fiance Cleveland Cavalier guard Iman Shumpert welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Imani Jr. on December 16. I noticed that Taylor was the baddest most fly preggers mama I have ever seen in a long while. Not since Love & Hip Hop star Rasheeda had another mom-to-be rock chic, eclectic and sporty maternity wear so well.

I really dug the military style jacket over a Hermes Paris T-shirt over military style green pants with some funky rubber bottom striped calf-length boots.

The R&B singer looked edgy hip Goth/Grunge in all black while rocking some fierce Agyness Deyn Dr. Martin Over-the-Knee Boots. Fab!

Finally, the long casual grey sweatshirt material coat jacket, over a tee and sweat pants with ripped knees and high tops accessorized with a dark grey neoprene bad was the business!

Overall, very fab!

Have you seen the Star Wars onesies some stores and online merchants are selling? They are the cutest things! I must say that the graphic designers who come up with the latest designs have been quite creative. Now they sell all sorts of great T’s, sweats and other casual Star Wars clothing for kids too!

I prefer the simple and classic, not overly cartooney stuff. Here’s my pick of Star Wars gear I’m digging.
