30 Celebrity Moms We’ve Profiled Who Have Since Split with their Kid’s Dad

30 celebs2

Breakups happen! When it comes to several of the celebrity women we have ‘bump watched’ over the course of the 8 years of this blog’s existence, they’re not interested in sticking it out for the baby when the relationship heads south.

And thus, not only is BellytichBlog an institution that chronicles celebrity births, it also is a memoriam, of sorts, to relationships that once were.  A significant number of pregnancies we’ve bumpwatched from pregnancy through birth were part of unions that have since dissolved.

The most recent is Idris Elba and his make up artist Naiyana Garth who reportedly just broke up. The couple welcomed their first child together in April 2014.

And the breakups aren’t always pretty.

Just this week, songstress and model Ciara filed a $15 Million defamation lawsuit in response to comments her ex hip hop artist Future has said about her in the media, traditional and social media.

Last week, Amber Rose found herself caught in the middle of a Twitter beef between Kim Kardashian‘s husband Kanye West and her ex Wiz Khalifa. West mentioned Rose and Wiz’s son Sebastian and Rose had to go off on him, revealing some intimate deets about their sex life when they were together, obviously to embarrass him and teach him a lesson about dragging her into his social media fights.

“I wouldn’t have said anything if it was just between him and Wiz,” Rose said on theAllegedly podcast. “That’s two grown men hashing it out. That’s their business. I would have kept it cute and just minded my business, but you don’t bring in my baby. That’s so corny.”

She and Kim posted the same “usie” on their respective social media accounts to signal the truce.

Last Summer was a big heartbreak time with the breakups of  Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck, Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, Sienna Miller and Tom Sturridge, Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick, Charlize Theron and Sean Penn and Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton.

Some celebs have broken up before the baby was even born: Christina Milian, Kelis, Heidi Klum and January Jones and many more split with their respective partners before they even gave birth.

Or shortly thereafter…. A couple of year ago, CiaraEva Marcille (nee Pigfordand Amber Rose split with their partners before each of  their babies turned 6 months old. A few years ago, Selma Blair and her ex Jason Bleick split up 14 months after welcoming their first child together.

No matter what happens, most children grow up in wonderfully co-parenting situations and survive and thrive!

Tyra Banks Welcomed Son, York, via Gestational Carrier

Tyra Banks and Eric Asla

Could this be the other reason supermodel Tyra Banks walked away from her TV talk panel show FABLife?

Congrats to model, producer & TV host Tyra Banks who welcomed her first child, a son, York Banks Asla, via gestational surrogate.

“We are so excited for our new baby boy bundle of joy,” The America’s Next Top Model franchise creator told PEOPLE.  “The journey to now has not been an easy process, as I’ve shared before. But there was a beautiful bright light at the end of the tunnel for me and his father.

Norwegian photographer Erik Asla is the father.

“As I gaze into the beautiful eyes of my son, I think about all the people who struggle with fertility or carrying a child and continue to pray for them every day,” the beauty entrepreneur said in the statement. “My hopes and dreams are filled with well wishes that they get to feel what my little treasure, York Banks Asla, feels like in my arms.”

Banks announced the news to her fans and followers on Instagram.

“The best present we worked and prayed so hard for is finally here,” she captioned a photo of a newborn hospital hat. “He’s got my fingers and big eyes and his daddy Erik’s mouth and chin.”

The recent host of FABLife struggled to conceive and announced this fact during a segment on her show last year. Currently preggers Chrissy Teigen also opened about her and hubby John Legend‘s challenges with infertility.

So it comes as no surprise she again thought of those struggling with infertility in the caption.

“As we thank the angel of a woman that carried our miracle baby boy for us, we pray for everyone who struggles to reach this joyous milestone. York Banks Asla, welcome to the world,” she added.

Banks previously opened up about her infertility struggles, revealing that she had undergone IVF procedures in hopes of conceiving.

“When I turned 40, the one thing I was not happy about is that I did not have kids,” Banks told PEOPLE last September 2015 after opening up about having undergone IVF treatments. “When you’re like, ‘Okay, I’m just going to do it,’ then it’s not so easy as you get older.”

We are so happy for her! Yay!!!

Before You Buy Your Next Stroller, Read These 5 Tips

The stroller is one of the first things that new parents consider when they find out they are expecting. The stroller may be an investment that lasts beyond just one baby. The universe of stroller options have opened up tremendously in recent years and it is not uncommon for one family to have 5 or more strollers for varying needs:  a carriage or buggy, a canopy stroller, a convertible stroller, an umbrella stroller, a stroller that is part of a travel system.

Picking the right one (or ones) can be dizzying.  Here are five great tips, we’ve brought back from a past post, for picking out the perfect stroller for your needs:

1. Determine your stroller needs. Consider where you live and how you will be using your stroller.  If you plan to exercise or jog with your baby, you may want to consider a jogging stroller.  Its big wheels will help smooth out the ride over any rough terrain.  Wait until your baby is a few months old before using a jogging stroller because they aren’t recommended for newborns.  Jogging strollers are large and don’t fold down compactly for fitting in the trunk, which is problematic for parents who opt to use a jogging stroller as their primary stroller. They also don’t steer well in tight spaces so they may be better suited as a specialized second stroller.  If you live in the city and you plan to mostly run errands with the stroller you will be looking for one that folds easily and doesn’t take up a lot of space in the car.  Modular or Multi-component systems (think Britax B-Ready or UppaBaby Vista) are the most expensive, but also the most versatile.

They can contain a bassinet, single seat, or second seat, and these options snap on to a base frame so that you can customize your stroller and add to it as your child and needs grow. They also accommodate most infant car seats. The Britax B-Ready also accommodates two seats. Twin or double strollers are a must if you have two young children.  Seats can be side-by-side, stadium style, or tandem. Travel systems are often bulky and heavy, but allow you to keep your baby in the car seat when strolling. When your baby outgrows the car seat, he can use the stroller seat.

2. Decide on a budget. Umbrella strollers range in price from $15.89 to $199.95 or more.  The cheapest umbrella stroller is very basic with a simple 3-point strap to hold the baby onto the fabric seat.  The top priced umbrella strollers boasts solid construction, are lightweight (14lbs.), have an infinite-position reclining seat, are easy to fold, have a one-step brake, carrying strap, and a parent cup holder.  Jogging strollers can range from low $100’s up to $500 or more.  Modular systems are purchased in pieces so prices will vary, but the frames typically cost around $400.  Regular single strollers range in price from the low $100’s to $400 or more depending on the features that you are looking for.  Twin strollers are priced in the mid $100’s and go up to $450 or more, again depending on what options the strollers have.

3. Create a checklist of features you want/need. Essential features for strollers include a five-point harness, a multi-position reclining seat, sun canopy, swivel wheels for mobility, easy folding system, stroller basket, easy to clean fabric, and a lightweight frame.  Additional luxury features include: adjustable handles, one-touch brakes, snack or play tray, parent cup holder, and an adjustable footrest to customize as the child grows.

4. Assess what size will work for you. Determine if you are looking for a stroller for one, two, or more children to help narrow your stroller search.  Strollers vary in weight from 6lbs to around 25lbs. or more.   Jogging strollers are large and bulky, but can also be very light.  Full-sized strollers fold down easily, offering many options for taking the baby along on errands.  If you live in the city and don’t have a lot of room to store the stroller you may want to look at models that fold down very compactly. Inglesina is a favorite of mine.

5. Check for consumer reviews on the model you’re looking at before you buy. Consumer reviews on strollers will be grouped by price, expert recommendations, and what the public thinks of the stroller.  Once you’ve narrowed down what you will be doing with the stroller, how many children the stroller needs to hold, what bells and whistles you need, and what price you’re willing to spend on it, it’s time to select your top choices of strollers.  Read how others rate the strollers that you are interested in to further narrow your search.

Final tip: If buying a used stroller make sure to check the recall list to make sure the stroller hasn’t been recalled.

Taylor detailed the early arrival and bathroom birth story in a photo of the newborn cradled in Shumpert’s arms:

On Dec 16th at 6:42am in our bathroom Junie decided she wanted to take her first breath into this world.

She came out as a wonderful surprise to everyone! Not knowing I was in labor until I felt her head…it took two ten count pushes with my fiancé playing Dr and she entered this world into his bare hands!

People are Naming Their Kids After ‘Empire’ Characters & Instagram Filters Now

empire

Yup! Baby Center compiled its annual list of baby names for 2015 and the results showed that Empire characters, Instagram filters, YouTube stars, teen fiction, video game heroines, royalty,  names of space and planets and even vices like names of booze, drugs, gambling, and guns, were all on the rise!

After analyzing 340,000 names of babies born in 2015, the popular parenting website found names of Empire television show characters surge or make a comeback.

Dre was up 77%, Lyon grew 6% and Hakeem was up 55%. The name Lucious returned to the list for the first time in three years.

Instagram

Hard to believe but Instagram filter-inspired baby names started gaining popularity in 2015: Lux (up 75% since 2014), Ludwig (up 42%) and Amaro (up 26%) for boys, and Valencia (up 26%) and Juno (up 30%) for girls.

Whoa! At least no Xpro-II yet.

“They’re looking for something unique, but not unheard of,” BabyCenter’s global Editor-in-Chief Linda Murray told Today , also explaining that, “You take these precious moments in your life and [a filter] makes them even more beautiful, it enhances them. I think people have just really warm feelings about that and these names come into their consciousness.”

Space

Parents also looked to the stars and space for names: Venus is up 68%, Jupiter is up 50%, Sunny is up 43% for boys and 18% for girls. Soleil (French for Sun) climbed 28%, Moon rose 4% and Luna and Stella took off.

Royals

Royalty-inspired names also saw an uptick. So there were more:  Royalty (up 88 %) , Royal (up 14%), Duchess (up 75%), Princess (up 22%), and Regina (Italian and Latin for queen) rose 5 percent.

For boys, regal names exerted power over baby boy names as Royal was up 36% and Reign up 54% after Kourtney Kardashian named her son that last year. Prince was up 10%, King (up 8%), Noble and Sovereign (both up 7%). Sultan, Cesar, Kaiser and Emperor also increased.

Tamera Mowry-Housley’s Breastfeeding Instagram Photo Gets Mostly Love

mowry breastfeeding

Tamera Mowry-Housley became the latest celebrity to post a photo of herself breastfeeding a newborn in social media. The photo, posted on her Instagram page last week on November 27, accompanied a blog post on the topic where she also revealed her struggles breastfeeding her first born, son, Aden.

“Breastfeeding Ariah has been amazing, in large part because I learned a lot from my experience with Aden,” the TV host of The Real captioned the photo. ”

In the post, she reflects on the challenges of nursing her son:

I know I’m not the only woman to have felt this way. In fact, I didn’t have it as bad as some women do. Breastfeeding can come easy and it can be nearly impossible. There are a ton of reasons for this, but the one that affected me was Aden’s latch. It took some time, but I finally learned how to get the right latch, and then breastfeeding was much easier. Let me tell you you, if breastfeeding is important to you, do not leave the hospital unless you’ve had the right latch with your baby!

The experience made her nervous about breastfeeding her daughter, Ariah, now 4-months old.

When it came time tobreastfeed Ariah, I have to admit I was a little worried. I wanted to be sure that I could give her my antibodies, feed her nutrients and give her enough of my milk to help prevent her from getting sick. Thankfully my worries were unwarranted. I took everything I learned from my experience with Aden and Ariah had the perfect latch from day one. The nurses even commented that they wished Ariah could teach the other babies there! Lol.

Indeed it was a different experience, she added:

Where breastfeeding with Aden was challenging, with Ariah it’s been unbelievable. I can’t fully express how it actually feels, but the bond it’s building between us is amazing. I cherish every second I can sit down and feed her. It’s our private time together, and I really find it so relaxing. It makes me feel good to know that I can give her everything that her body needs, and I plan to do so until she’s one year. And women must do what’s right for their baby–which can include bottle feeding of course. In that case, I’ve discovered that Gentle Gerber formula is best!

I’ve learned to trust my baby. I hope hearing my story will help any new mommas out there!

Good job! We’ve talked about the benefits of celebrities sharing their breastfeeding journey and stories, not only to inspire others to try, but also to share that they are not alone with struggles, as Mowry-Housley did. Often times, when they do, outspoken folks call them fame whores exploiting their babies for attention.  But we noticed most of the comments about Mowry-Houeley’s have been supportive, perhaps because she also shared her challenges as well.

We didn’t see the same level of admonition from the breastfeeding shaming public as we’ve seen in the past  (Jessie James Decker, Alyssa Milano, Model Ashley Nicole , Eric Benet’s wife Manuela Tostolini, ) so maybe this means people are slowly getting over it. Who knows.

Bravo!
