Carrie Underwood Joins Roster of Celeb Baby Bumps Featured in Their Music Videos

Carrie Underwood has joined the small legions of celebrity singers who released music videos while visibly pregnant.

In the video for her new song, “Love Wins“, underbelly shots of the country music phenom reveals her baby bump in an empire waist rose gown. In the emotional son, Underwood addresses a lot of hot-button political topics such as gun violence, politics, our very heavily divided world while offering the solution to it all: Love!

“Love is power, love is a smile[,]

Love reaches out, love is the remedy[,]

Love is the answer, love’s an open door[,]

Love is the only thing worth fighting for[.]”

Underwood,  announced last month she was expecting her second child with husband Mike Fisher.

Earlier this year, Cardi B dropped several videos off of her debut album “Invasion of Privacy” and her baby bump too was very much present.

A long time ago, women were hidden away when pregnant and certainly, they weren’t flaunted in the media or music videos. In modern times, beautiful pregnant women are featured prominently as with a very 9-month pregnant Natalie Portman, days before giving birth in the music video for James Blake’s  song “My Willing Heart,” released on Monday.

But she isn’t the first one. Beyonce, P!nk, Deborah Cox, and Whitney Houston have also appeared very pregnant in music videos for their songs

In 2011, Beyonce was pregnant with her daughter Blue Ivy in her Countdown Video. That year, P!nk was also visibly pregnant with her daughter Willow in her girls empowerment song “F*&>Perfect”.

Before then, Canadian -born artist Deborah Cox showed off her 3rd trimester belly in the later frames of her “Beautiful U R” video” which is also about female empowerment and self esteem.  Finally, Whitney Houston, was also uplifting women in her remake of Chaka Khan‘s “I’m Every Woman” and was pregnant with her daughter Bobbi Kristina. (RIP to both of them).

2018 MTV VMAs: Cardi B’s Baby Kultura Fake Out & Red Carpet Trends

Last night was the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards at Radio City Music Hall in New York, New York City on August 20.

Quite a few of our Bellyitch  Bumpwatch alums showed up and/or showed out with draw-dropping performances, on-stage antics, on the red carpet risks and MoonMan winning!

Jennifer Lopez gave an electrifying performance of a medley of her hits over the years before accepting the Video Vanguard Award, the first person of Latino heritage to win the coveted prize.

Cardi B surprised the audience by opening the show cradling what looked like a baby on stage

Many thought they would get the first glimpse of her infant girl Kultura with husband rapper Offset, but she later revealed it was a trophy.

Womp womp womp!!

Later in the evening, the “I Like It” rapper won three of several awards she was nominated for, Song of the Summer for “I Like It featuring Bad Bunny & J Balvin; Best new artist and Best Collaboration for “Dinero” Jennifer Lopez’s song with DJ Khaled Artist of the year.

She was nominated for Best hip hop, Artist of the Year, Best Latin album, also for Dinero and Song of the Year for “Finesse” with Bruno Mars

Beyoncé’s song “APES**T” with her husband Jay Z as part of their duo The Carters won a few technical awards for Best Cinematography and Best Art Direction though that song was also nominated for Best collaboration, Best Direction, Best Choreography,  Best Hop Hop, Best Editing And Video of the Year.

On the red carpet, JLo and Cardi showed out along with other alums Kylie Jenner and Blake Lively, coming through with the pant suit again.

MTV Reality show and other Bellyitch alums Heidi Montag, Nicky Hilton, Nicole “Snooki” Palozzi and Audrina Partridge graces the red carpet also.

One fashion trend that stood out to me was the inptricate sheet organza I saw on singing sisters and Beyonce protege Chloe X Haile, comedic actress Tiffany Hadish and British singing phenom  Rita Ora.

And finally, winning the sex kitten awards: a chaps and chisel abs donning Teyana Taylor, Blac Chyna and red cat woman Amber Rose.

Serena Williams Opens Up About Dealing With Postpartum Blues

In the same week that one of her good friends Beyonce opened up about having preeclampsia before delivering her twins Sir and Rumi, 23-times Grand Slam Tennis champ Serena Williams revealed that she was in the middle of dealing with postpartum blues when she pulled out of the  Rogers Cup tournament citing “personal reasons.”

In an emotional Instagram post, she wrote: “Not only was I accepting some tough personal stuff, but I just was in a funk. Mostly, I felt like I was not a good mom,” adding, “it’s totally normal to feel like I’m not doing enough for my baby…We have all been there. I work a lot, I train, and I’m trying to be the best athlete I can be. However, that means although I have been with her every day of her life, I’m not around as much as I would like to be.”

Williams, who recently gave birth to her daughter Alexis Olympia with husband Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, also offered  gave up some encouraging words to other moms out there dealing with similar issues:

“Most of you moms deal with the same thing. Whether stay-at-home or working, finding that balance with kids is a true art. You are the true heroes.” Read the post and check out a TODAY video on the story below:

Last week was not easy for me. Not only was I accepting some tough personal stuff, but I just was in a funk. Mostly, I felt like I was not a good mom. I read several articles that said postpartum emotions can last up to 3 years if not dealt with. I like communication best. Talking things through with my mom, my sisters, my friends let me know that my feelings are totally normal. It’s totally normal to feel like I’m not doing enough for my baby. We have all been there. I work a lot, I train, and I’m trying to be the best athlete I can be. However, that means although I have been with her every day of her life, I’m not around as much as I would like to be. Most of you moms deal with the same thing. Whether stay-at-home or working, finding that balance with kids is a true art. You are the true heroes. I’m here to say: if you are having a rough day or week–it’s ok–I am, too!!! There’s always tomm!

Beyonce Vogue Cover Takeover: Talks Twins’ Labor, Delivery, Motherhood (PHOTOS)

In an unprecedented move, Vogue permitted Beyoncé to have editorial control over its popular September issue and not only did Queen Bey make history by hiring the magazine’s first Black photographer, Travis Wright, in its 126 history to shoot a cover, but she also gave us unprecedented insight into her pregnancy, labor, delivery and her perspective motherhood in her own in-person first person narrative!

It is a glorious issue! On Newsstands now. Here are some of the nuggets she shared with us all:

About the evolution of the magazine and fashion industry towards black people and people of color:

“When I first started, 21 years ago, I was told that it was hard for me to get onto covers of magazines because black people did not sell,” Beyonce told the magazine. “Clearly that has been proven a myth. Not only is an African-American on the cover of the most important month for Vogue, this is the first-ever Vogue cover shot by an African-American photographer.”

About the delivery of her twins who were born via C-section due to Preeclampsia:

“I was 218 pounds the day I gave birth to Rumi and Sir,” she wrote. “I was swollen from toxemia and had been on bed rest for over a month. My health and my babies’ health were in danger, so I had an emergency C-section. We spent many weeks in the NICU.”

It was a shocking experience that she credits her husband, Jay Z for helping her deal with:

“My husband was a soldier and such a strong support system for me,” she continues. “I was in survival mode and did not grasp it all until months later.”

About realizing that C-Section recovery takes a lot longer and is harder than vaginal birth recovery:

“After the C-section, my core felt different,” she stated. “It had been major surgery. Some of your organs are shifted temporarily, and in rare cases, removed temporarily during delivery. I am not sure everyone understands that. I needed time to heal, to recover.”

About embracing her new extra set of curves that have come compliments of being a mom to three:

After giving birth, “my core felt different,” she shared, and  added that he “embraced being curvier” and as she was preparing for her Coachella headlining shows.  And thought she went vegan temporarily, gave up coffee, alcohol and fruit drinks while getting in shame for that performance, she is cool with her different, more full and rounder body.

“To this day my arms, shoulders, breasts, and thighs are fuller,” she wrote. “I have a little mommy pouch, and I’m in no rush to get rid of it. I think it’s real. Whenever I’m ready to get a six-pack, I will go into beast zone and work my (butt) off until I have it. But right now, my (bigger bikini area) and I feel like we are meant to be.”

About lessons from succumbing to societal pressures for celeb women to peel off baby weight shortly after giving birth:

“I believed in the things society said about how my body should look,” she wrote. “I put pressure on myself to lose all the baby weight in three months, and scheduled a small tour to assure I would do it. Looking back, that was crazy.”

About the different way she is approaching recovering from twin delivery:

“During my recovery, I gave myself self-love and self-care, and I embraced being curvier,” the “Apesh*it” singer pens.  “I accepted what my body wanted to be… was patient with myself and enjoyed my fuller curves.”

Going back to Natural for the Vogue shoot

She purposefully went with the bare stripped away, back to nature, theme and for the Vogue shoot avoided “the wigs and hair extensions” and wore scant makeup in an attempt to inspire other women to embrace their natural bodies.

On growth from her 20s to today:

“I look at the woman I was in my 20s and I see a young lady growing into confidence but intent on pleasing everyone around her,” the multi-platinum global artist revealed. “I now feel so much more beautiful, so much sexier, so much more interesting. And so much more powerful.”

About connection to her slave and African ancestry:

“I researched my ancestry recently and learned that I come from a slave owner who fell in love with and married a slave,” she shared. “I questioned what it meant and tried to put it into perspective. I now believe it’s why God blessed me with my twins. Male and female energy was able to coexist and grow in my blood for the first time,” adding,  “I pray that I am able to break the generational curses in my family and that my children will have less complicated lives.”

On exposing her heritage and roots and culture to larger audience during Coachella:

“I had a clear vision for Coachella. I was so specific because I’d seen it, I’d heard it, and it was already written inside of me,” she writes about singing “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” known as the black national anthem, during her performance and quoting Malcolm X in between songs.

“I know that most of the young people on the stage and in the audience did not know the history of the black national anthem before Coachella. But they understood the feeling it gave them,” she explained. “It was a celebration of all the people who sacrificed more than we could ever imagine, who moved the world forward so that it could welcome a woman of color to headline such a festival.”

About what she wishes for her daughters and son:

As the mother of two girls, Beyonce says she wants her daughters to know that they can be anything, “CEOs, as bosses, and that they know they can write the script for their own lives.”

“They don’t have to be a certain type or fit into a specific category. They don’t have to be politically correct, as long as they’re authentic, respectful, compassionate, and empathetic,” she writes. “I want the same things for my son. I want him to know that he can be strong and brave but that he can also be sensitive and kind. I want my son to have a high emotional IQ where he is free to be caring, truthful, and honest. It’s everything a woman wants in a man, and yet we don’t teach it to our boys.”

Beyonce is currently embarking on the On The Run II tour with Jay-Z, which concludes on Oct. 4 in Seattle.

Awesome!

The Awesome Way Beyonce Shut Down the Pregnancy Rumors (VIDEO)

bey and jay and monalisa

After fan speculation that Beyonce was wearing clothes covering her tummy and touched her stomach a bit during her performances while on her On the Run II (“OTRII) world The Carters tour with her husband, the Queen B shut down the rumors in a very awesome way during the DC stop! (my city!)

While introducing the song “Flawless”, the multi-platinum artist told the audience, “yall know your flaws make you beautiful!” then tore into the adlib of the song, “I woke up like this! I woke up like this!” while gesturing towards her belly!

There you have it! The mom of one year old twins is like the rest of us: her weight fluctuates throughout the week, month and year. No scene!

The rumor mill went into overdrive regarding Mrs. Carter’s fertility earlier this summer following confusion about her wardrobe choices during her recent European stops on the tour but she did a great job shutting that done, eh?

Love her! Cannot wait to see her on tour one day! Hope some of my readers got a chance to check her out this round or last!

Beyonce Shares First Photos Of Rumi and Sir and They’re Gorgeous!

Beyoncé finally shared a photo of her twins Rumi and Sir on her website this week.

The “Apesh*t” singer posted a photo of herself holding her 13-month-old twins on her lap during the family’s time during the European leg of her and hubby’s “On The Tour II”  tour

In the photo, Beyoncé smiles while looking off to the side with her gorgeous daughter Rumi giggling as she follows mom’s gaze. We cannot see son Sir’s face too well because he is looking down in the photo.

In a second photo, hubby JAY-Z holds Rumi’s hands as they stand on the deck of their yacht looking into the water. The toddler looks so cute in an adorable  white tank top and a yellow ruffled skirt.

Big sister Blue Ivy is there too posing with mom in matching “mom and me” pink kaftan type dresses on the yacht.

This is a refreshing “real deal” because you may recall back in early June, when the couple launched their summer tour, fans attending the very first show thought an on screen image of Jay holding two babies were the twins but that belief was quickly shot down by a spokesperson for the couple who assured us we were wrong.

Independence Day: Rock Stars and Stripes like These Celebs

Feeling patriotic?

Wearing the America Flag’s Stars and Stripes have been a trending item in past seasons and doing so is popular each year around the 4th of July.

Actually, according to the US Constitution, the flag should not be worn in the form of clothing. Doing so is a sign of disrespect. However, it is so common nowadays in modern secular society that no one bats an eye if someone wears Old Glory on their bottom.

To be safe, we’d suggest going with a plain t shirt with the flag on it as Gisele Bundchen and Kendall Jenner have been seen wearing in the past. An entire dress, like the ones Halle Berry and Meryl Streep have donned, might be over -the-top but they can work too. You can mix it up by separating the stars from the strips like with a jacket Ciara was spotted wearing is a great not so conspicuous way to show your American pride.

Celebs are famous for flaunting their figures in stripes short shorts. You can get Beyonce’s shorts from Forever 21 for $21.99.

estelle stars and stripes

Or pick up a red and white stars and stripes top like the one R&B singer Estelle wore once in the past from Zulily for $26.00.
They can be nabbed at big box stores like Walmart and Target around this time of year and usually get discounted on July 5th but that doesn’t mean you are limited to wearing patriot gear on these days only. Have it your way!

Bey and Jay Release Joint Album: Planned Blog Post Canceled!

I was going to blog about something totally different this afternoon, but you know how Beyonce releasing an album has a habit of throwing all of my plans in disarray. [See review of Beyonce projects here] and [here] She and her husband Shawn”Jay Z” Carter released a 9-track album called “Everything Is Love” smack dab in the middle of their On the Run II tour. [This is right after the Beychella performance which was right after Jay’s album “4:44” which was right after Bey’s “Lemonade”]

These two don’t want us to keep our coins in our own pockets this summer. Anyway, I digress…

Dee Locket of Vulture did an excellent job summing it up for me so I’ll syndicate her opening paragraph to an excellent review you can read in its entirety HERE:

Your weekend plans: Canceled. Yeezy season: Dismissed. Drake: Who? Beyoncé and Jay-Z have pulled a Beyoncé and Jay-Z and surprise-dropped yet another album — but this time, as a couple. Their first-ever joint album Everything Is Love — the one that’s been percolating since even before Lemonade and 4:44 — was released on Saturday evening at the end of the duo’s London show on their On the Run Tour II with one casual parting announcement: “Album Out Now.” Out! Now! The nine-song album, complete with one visual component and a bonus track, is streaming in full on Tidal as we speak. With their trilogy recounting marital strife to remarried bliss now complete, what do we make of this closing chapter? From the shots at Trump, the NFL, Spotify, the Grammys, and Kanye West, to the Blue Ivy cameo, to filming a music video in the Louvre, here’s everything you need to know about the conversation the Carters have caused now.

Phew! What an intro. Well, today is Father’s Day and before heading out to celebrate, while the men are busy watching World Cup games, I hopped on to pen a few thoughts.

First, I don’t have Tidal, where the album exists exclusively. Yes, they are still trying to make it happen, and even have gone as far as declare war on Spotify. No really, they mention the streaming competitor in one of the songs.  My subscription expired so my options are to re-up it to listen to the complete set or wait until it slowly releases on other platforms. le sigh.

I hear it’s getting mixed, but mainly good reviews. Because I have nothing to add substantively, I’ll share that I loved the only released-to-the-public video out: “Apeshit”.  Imagine! They rented out The Louvre in Paris, France for the video shoot! Wow!

The video for the song is a cinematic and visual treat. I love art. All art. Musical, visual, performing but especially art of yesteryear and religious art so it was a bonus to get to see flashes of famous pieces in the video.

And it is also a bit political. In the middle, there is an overt swipe at the anti-Take A Knee movement.

There is a lot to digest and there have already been publised a bevy or reviews. One thing I can offer that may not have been shared by others about “Apesh*t”  is some of  the similarities to other visual stimuli in other pieces.

Screeeeech!! Hold up, before I go there, I was also taken by the fact the song is Trap and besides both dropping some serious bars and Jay Z delivering an exceptionally good performance, he later gets side-graded (*is that a word?*) in my opinion to be to the sound effects emoting guy to Beyonce’s shine when it’s her turn to spit verses.

You know, like the guy Takeoff in the group Migos? ha!

Anyway, back to the visual similarities I spotted…

First, her sister Solange is famous for her love of dance and art combined. Her wedding reception took place at the New Orleans Museum of Art, and earlier this year, she unveiled a performance piece at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, and performed her title song to her first Grammy-winning album “Cranes In the Sky” at the Guggenheim in New York City.

"An ode to" 2017

A post shared by @ saintrecords on

And so her big sister went bigger.

The second similarity. The dancers in all brown reminded me of the all Brown clothing the dancers in Remy Ma (featuring Chris Brown) video “Melanin Magic.”

And finally, the album cover is of a woman braiding a man’s hair. It was reminiscent of Rihanna shaving dancer Mette Towley‘s  hair in the intro to N.E.R.D.’s song Lemon.

Art begets Art. There is nothing truly original anymore and everyone’s interpret, pay homage to and weave in aspects of previously done works.

What else did I spot?

I love that there is a shot in the video that is an ode to us Virgos! Beyonce is one too. I got this long lingering shot…

More visuals:

Beautiful! Bravo!

Beyonce HBCU Tribute Headliner and Celeb Moms at Coachella 2018

Nicole Richie, Beyonce Headliner, Christina Milian, Behati Prinsloo and Alessandra Ambrosio at the 2018 Coachella mMusic festival.

Many of our celeb moms headed to Empire Polo Field in Indio, California this weekend for the annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

Nicole Richie  showed up in white to her  Revolve x Nicole Richie House of Harlow x Urban Decay lunch. Behati Prinsloo was there looking fly in Alexander Wang zip-front pants, Vans and a bucket hat. Alessandra Ambrosio showed up looking fab and outfitted to the free spirit theme that is common among attendees.

Kourtney Kardashian and Kendall Jenner along with Kylie Jenner and her bestie Jordyn Woods headed down.

Whitney Port and Rachel Zoe were photographed in an iconic all white pic. Loved Christina Milian‘s Boho dress too!

Beyonce headlined by opening up her set in a regal gold and black caped outfit that resembled the regal African queen Nefertiti but then she quickly stripped from her opener fit to a custom Balmain athleisure look complete with a gold cropped hoodie with her initials embezzled in jewels on the front, denim cutoffs and shimmering high high toots.

Before it was over, mom to Rumi, Sir and Blue Ivy Carter had a few costume changes including a PCV leather leotard, and she brought her husband Jay Z out to do their duet of their 2006 song together “Deja Vu” and her sister Solange to perform “Get Me Body.”

There was also a Destiny’s Child reunion as our other alum Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams joined Queen By for a few of their hits, “Lose My Breath”, “Say My Name” and “Soldier”.

Her set was an ode to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) because it featured a large marching band, drum and majorette line, reminiscent to the types you’d see performing during a homecoming game at Howard, Flordia State or Grambling State.  (edit: There were actual FSU bandmembers playing). There was even an interlude when she acted as the prophyte initiating a new line into her fictional fraternity “B A K” — which could stand for Beyonce and Knowles or, Beyonce Phi Knowles or Beyonce Delta Knowles (couldn’t tell if that was an A, Delta or Phi symbol)  who knows. The mock probate was entertaining!

A few of the dance moves during the set include “stepping” which is a traditional hand, clap and stomp movement common in Black Greek step shows with roots in African dance, ritual and customs.

Beyonce was supposed to headline at the festival last year, but she postponed her appearance after she announced she was pregnant with twins.

Here is Beyonce’s complete set per JustJared.com‘s snoops. See the entire performance HERE!

Jennifer Hudson, Kanye West and North Among Celebs Attending March For Our Lives

A few of our Bellyitch Bumpwatch alums attending this weekend’s March For Our Lives rally in Washington, DC.  Kim Kardashian West‘s husband Kanye West attended the event with his daughter North and her grandparents.

They were spotted with North on her papa’s shoulders in the middle of a packed crowd.

Jennifer Hudson delivered a soulful gospel-inspired rendition of Bob Dylan’s “The Times They Are a-Changin‘” to close out the March. WATCH

The movement calls for stricter gun control laws following the massacre of 17 students at a shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.  Other celebrity supporters of the event include Selena Gomez, Amy Schumer, George Clooney and Paul McCartney.

Hudson gets props for always jumping in to support youth movements.  She is among a host of other celebs (like Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Rihanna, Lenny Kravitz, Zoë Kravitz, Queen Latifah, Pink, Bono,  and Rosario Dawsonto also support the Black Lives Matter movement aimed at addressing disproportionate number of killing of UNARMED black civilians by police with impunity. Kanye West has a history of controversial statements but has also been a supporter of the BLM movement.

This song Hudson sand was approps. Check the Lyrics:

The Times They Are A-Changin’

WRITTEN BY: BOB DYLAN

Come gather ’round people

Wherever you roam

And admit that the waters

Around you have grown

And accept it that soon

You’ll be drenched to the bone

If your time to you is worth savin’

Then you better start swimmin’ or you’ll sink like a stone

For the times they are a-changin’

Come writers and critics

Who prophesize with your pen

And keep your eyes wide

The chance won’t come again

And don’t speak too soon

For the wheel’s still in spin

And there’s no tellin’ who that it’s namin’

For the loser now will be later to win

For the times they are a-changin’

Come senators, congressmen

Please heed the call

Don’t stand in the doorway

Don’t block up the hall

For he that gets hurt

Will be he who has stalled

There’s a battle outside and it is ragin’

It’ll soon shake your windows and rattle your walls

For the times they are a-changin’

Come mothers and fathers

Throughout the land

And don’t criticize

What you can’t understand

Your sons and your daughters

Are beyond your command

Your old road is rapidly agin’

Please get out of the new one if you can’t lend your hand

For the times they are a-changin’

The line it is drawn

The curse it is cast

The slow one now

Will later be fast

As the present now

Will later be past

The order is rapidly fadin’

And the first one now will later be last

For the times they are a-changin’
