Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert are Expecting Second Child

While teasing a video from a song off her upcoming album, Teyana Taylor, revealed that she is expecting her second child.

In the final scene of the video to “Wake Up Love“, (above) the entire family is laying in an oversized bed. Her 4-year old daughter Iman Junior and husband Cleveland Cavaliers Iman Shumpert hug and kiss her belly after she reveals her adorable bump hiding underneath her white tank top.

It’s an adorable tender song that also features Shumpert Senior rapping during an interlude in the R&B song.

The “How You Want It?” singer received wide spread attention as the amazing dancer with the crazy fit body in the video for Kanye West’s song, Fade.

Shumpert Senior actually helped usher their daughter into the world in the bathroom during an emergency delivery back in 2015. Amazing! What a dad!

Taylor’s latest project is set to drop this Friday, June 19th on Juneteenth which is appropriate given her daughter’s nickname is Junie or June bug.

Congrats!

Viral: Dad YT Channel Helps Fatherless Kids He Once Was

Are you ready for another feel good “dad” story, just in time for Father’s Day in a few weeks?

About a month ago,  Bellevue, Washington native Rob Kenney launched a special YouTube channel dedicated to showing kids who may not have a dad in their life how to fix every day things.

Kenney’s channel ‘Dad, how do I?’ was in response to his own upbringing where his father abandoned him and his siblings after divorcing their mom.

In an interview with Shattered Magazine, Kenney  said of his dad who he explained has cheated on his mother “he got custody of us, but he didn’t really want us…I think he was kind of done by that time.”

After he grew up, Kenney turned to his faith as a Catholic and decided that when he became a dad himself, he would focus on raising good adults.

“I never wanted to be wealthy. I never wanted to be necessarily successful,” he explained. “My goal in life was to raise good adults — not good children but good adults — because I had a fractured childhood.”

And that’s what he did until his own kids grew up and left the nest.  He has now turned to making sure all those other children growing up without the presence of a father in their home will have a place to go to get some fatherly advice.

Since his story went viral, Kenney’s channel has amassed 1.4M viewers as of this post!

Great job! I’m a new subscriber!

With New Fatherhood, CNN’s Anderson Cooper Joined the 3 percent

When CNN anchor Anderson Cooper announced on the last day of April last month that he had become a father, he joined the 3% of single men in the United States who become a parent without a partner or spouse.

“On Monday, I became a father,” the heir to the Vanderbilt fortune and popular on air news personality shared at the end of a CNN Town Hall segment. “I have a son.”

He later tweeted that Wyatt Morgan Cooper was born on Monday weighing 7 pounds 2 ounces.

Before Cooper, one of his best friends, BravoTV‘s Andy Cohen also welcomed a baby solo, and similarly, Cohen too announced the news on his nightly talk show Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen

Other famous men who became parents while single include, actor Hill Harper, who adopted a son, while  there is apparently a growing trend of single men turning to surrogacy, according to recent reports.

International soccer star and the most famous person on Instagram, Cristiano Ronaldo, is a surrogate to three children, two of whom were born when he was single.

In 2008, Latin pop sensation Ricky Martin used a surrogate to father twins while he was also without a partner at the time. He has since welcomed a daughter, Lucia, with his husband Jwan Josef.

In a blog post on the E network‘s Daily Dish Blog, an expert explains the trend:

“There are many reasons why some men don’t start a family in their 20s or 30s. But it’s not too late to have a child, even if you don’t have a wife or a female partner? Single men who want to have a biological child of their own, both gay and straight, are starting to turn to IVF and surrogacy,” reports WINfertility, an organization which assists men in becoming single fathers.

“It’s not a simple process — basically, a single man who wants to be a dad needs an egg donor, a gestational surrogate to carry the child, and IVF to make fertilization of the egg and transfer of the embryo possible. There are hormones to take, sperm to donate, tests to undergo, egg testing to be done, contracts to be signed. It can be a years-long process. Which means that if you do it, you really want it.”

But according to Gayle East, owner and director of Surrogate Solutions in Hewitt, Texas, single man surrogacy is becoming more prevalent!

The type of guy who will be willing to undertake such a life-altering move are professionals who are financially stable and ready to settle down but they haven’t found a partner yet.

“They’re single guys who’ve been working in a career, saving money and becoming more financially secure. It’s very doable for them,” says East. “In the past, there was the stereotype of moms raising a family, but they’re seeing same-sex couples with families. And now, watching other guys go through this process will probably give more single guys the courage to do this.”

Congrats to Cooper!

Be A Tiger Mom Early On To Ease Parenting Stress Later

https://youtu.be/J80Zw4DliKM

Back in 2017, educator and author, Dr. Cornelius Grove, sent me his book about East Asian parents back in 2017 to review, which I did, but only recently began to understand how the Tiger Mom form of parenting is actually best for training children with poor work ethic and for relieving parental anxiety and stress when a child enter Middle and High School years.

Essentially, his book “The Drive to Learn: What the East Asian Experience Tells Us about Raising Students Who Excel” talks about how Eastern Asian parents do a better job at parenting children. In short, in this book  delves into the deep cultural reasons why our children’s learning in school is consistently below others. (Read more about the author at TheDriveToLearn.info)

Now that I am deep into Western form of parenting and can now appreciate the hard lessons in the book, I am comfortable advising new parents to consider the East Asian form of parenting and to introduce the models and styles as early as possible in order to make life easier, academically, later.

This suggestion is true becuase you have no clue what kind of temperment your baby will develop over time so in case you do not get a natural hard worker or go-getter, at least you can supplement and hard wire a more care-free, relaxed, non-challant child’s brain to know to do what needs to be done to succeed academically, at least!

Here is an excerpt from my review from a few years back if you would like to revisit it:

Because America focuses on the individual and lays the burden to educate its school children squarely on shoulders of school systems and teachers may be the cause for pervasive mediocrity among its students compared to other industrialized nations.

So says social scientist and researcher Cornelius Grove which I received this Summer complimentary in exchange for an honest review.

It took me quite some time to get through it because of life’s interruptions but also because it is tremendously densely packed with information, data, anecdotes and references that I wanted to make sure I took a comprehensive approach to digesting all of its contents before writing this review. Also, I am very interested in education and the process of raising quality children. The Sociology of child-raising is a fascinating topic to me.

Admittedly, from reading the front and back cover, I expected the book to a “bashfest” of the American education system and American children interwoven through passages levying laudatory praise of East Asian schools and kids.

It was not that really. Moreso, Grove examines various aspects of learning in the two cultures in an attempt to dissect what makes them so different.

America is an individualized society while China and Japan are Communitarian. While America focuses on the build up of the individual and self, East Asian cultures strive to develop a sense of being part of a larger community. READ MORE

VIRAL: Mom Meets Newborn For 1st Time After Beating COVID

A woman, who gave birth while in a medical coma as she battled COVID-19, met her baby for the first time on Wednesday.

Yanira Soriano was visibly overwhelmed as her healthy 12-day-old son, Walter, was placed in her arms to the sound of thunderous cheers at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, New York.

Dr. Benjamin Schwartz, chair of the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, was in tears.

“She was on a ventilator for 11 days,” Schwartz told TODAY Parents. “We didn’t know if this little boy would ever meet his mom. She was in critical condition.”

Soriano, 36, was 34 weeks pregnant when she arrived on April 2, suffering from symptoms including fever, cough and shortness of breath. The following day, her health began to deteriorate rapidly.

“She was terrified of what was happening,” Schwartz revealed. “I think everyone involved was fearful. At the time, there was a very poor prognosis for people who ended up on a ventilator. More people were dying then surviving.”

Breaking Down the CARES Act IRS Stimulus Rebate/Refund Checks {Video}

In a new YouTube video, I respond to a lot of myths and misunderstanding people have about the Coronavirus CARES Act IRS Stimulus Rebate/Refund Checks,

To react to the dramatic and devastating economic impact the novel coronavirus COVID-19 is having on the United States economy, the government recently created a new law called the CARES Act which, among other things, provides emergency payments, loans and grants to small businesses and individuals.

According to recent reports, the relief checks will be deposited into people’s bank accounts starting today, April 9th.

However, there is a lot of misinformation about the $2T Economic Bill, called the Cornavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act, especially about the individual rebates that the Internal Revenue Service and the Social Security Administration have been tasked with getting into citizens’ hands.

Common remarks and questions I’ve seen made about the rebate/refund check I’ve seen include:

“Man, the government isnt’ sending us any money! ”

“How can they afford to pay us when we got a $16T deficit?

“I heard it’s an advance on your tax refund for next year!”

“Nothing it Free! Of course, we’re gonna have to pay it back!”

Although the $1200 refund checks are technically an advance on a 2020 tax credit, that money will NOT be deducted from your tax refund next year and in this video I explain why in my recent YouTube explainer video.

But first, I go through some basics of federal US Civics 101 and specifically go over, generally, how the US Gov gets revenue, what it does with that money, and I give a very brief walk through on how tax credits work to help people realize why it will not be deducted from future refunds.

It ends with a discussion about the fact that 17 year olds and young adult and college kids who are still supported by their parents are excluded from funding and what I think we should do to change that.

Quarantine Blues: This NBA Vet’s Kids Racked Up A $16K Fortnite Bill

gaming console

You’re stuck at home with bored kids who sometimes get lost in Fortnite but hopefully they do not get so deep as NBA plater Kendrick Perkins‘ children who racked up a $16,000 bill on his credit card playing the game.

During a segment of ESPN’s “Hoop Streams”, the former Boston Celtics player confessed, “in my house, it’s nothing but Fortnite, NBA 2K…”It just drives me crazy.”

The father of two explained how the game that is free to download on PC, gaming console or mobile device got his wallet good.

“I get my credit card bill back, right? I go to the store; I go to buy something – credit card declined,” Perkins said. “I’m like, ‘What? I haven’t used this; I just paid it.’ Come to find out I got $16,000 worth of Fortnite bills on my credit card. Ever since then, I was like you know what? I’m cool on Fortnite, I do not indulge in video games.”

Although free, kids can rack up a bill purchasing skins, outfits that the players in the game wear and more.

Perkins said was was able to  dispute the charge but  has sworn off ever being spoken to about the game.

Woman Gives Birth to Surprise Triplets She Thought Were Kidney Stones

A South Dakota woman started feeling pains in her back last Saturday, suspected it was kidney stones which she has had before, went to the hospital and delivered surprise triplets!

Danielle Glitz shared her story on a Facebook Fundraising Campaign organized by her friend who wanted Glitz and her husband to get essentials for the small family they had not expected.

I “went to urgent care thinking I’m going to have to have surgery to break the stones up,” Danielle shared.  “Well, dr comes back in after doing a urine sample and said ur pregnant….so they got the portable heart moniter they use and did a ultrasound and said theres possible twins.”

Two hours later, the docs confirmed it was twins indeed and then that Danielle was experiencing contractions and was 4 cm dilated, but by the end of the night, she had an emergency C-Section and welcomed two girls and a boy.

She named them, Nikki Marie, Blake Jackson and Gypsy Zada.

According to KSFY, Dannette Giltz was in shock when doctors told her she was about to give birth to three new babies that ended up all being born within four minutes, each weighing at about four pounds, on Aug. 10.

“You don’t ever see triplets being conceived naturally, let alone going 34 weeks without knowing. So, everyone’s like I can’t believe it. We’re still in shock, trust me,” Danielle told the station.

The family has been inundated with generous donations since the news.
