Review: Here’s Another Very Cute Baby Shower Gift Book

Novelty books are always a great gift to give a first time mom or a woman who has just announced she is expecting her first kid. I was sent a copy of Norweigian illustrator and animator Line Severinsen‘s new graphic book, “I’m So Pregnant” to check out (retail: $14.99US). It’s a humorous take on all the common and untold unpleasantness of pregnancy.

In the intro to the hard cover book of over 50 pages of illustrations, Severinsen explains, “Like many women, when I became pregnant with my first baby, I was so excited to have the experience of carrying a child…but then, not long into my first trimester, I started noticing how the media and blogosphere continuously painted pregnancy in such a glorious light, completely leaving out the negative things that many pregnant women experienced.”

She said that’s when she grabbed her pencils to start telling her “pregnancy story in an honest way.” But with all the “keepin’ it real” in between the pages of her new book, Severinsen acknowledges it all ends well.

“I like to think that these drawings show that while pregnancy is not always easy (or pretty, or comfortable, or fun),in the end, when you see your baby for the first time, it is completely worth it,” she writes.

I found the illustrations about the sudden appearance of stretch marks, the asinine question one gets at the end, “You’re still pregnant?!”, the screaming for an epidural, the delivery selfie, and the unexpected bowel movement during the pushing stage to be the BEST and funniest parts!”

Overall, the short read is a pleasurable and fun take on pregnancy-hood. It’s on sale now! Grab your copy from our partners at

Meanwhile, the title reminded me of this parody of rapper Iggy Azalea‘s song “Fancy” called “I’m so pregnant. WATCH:

Purchase of This Backpack Gives Back TWO-Fold to Kids In Need

We love social good initiatives that help children and families and that’s why we’re happy to report about innovative company whose entire business model is centered on helping kids in need.

Sydney Paige is woman-owned company that makes very sturdy, cute and practical backpacks, school accessories and books and partners with worthy causes to donate a matching product for each sold. That way customers know their purchases will have a philanthropic effect as well.

This month, Sydney Paige is teaming up with an inspiring nonprofit, Rainbow Pack. This organization was started by founder Riley Joy Gantt when she was just ten years old and is dedicated to providing elementary school students with educational tools they need to be successful learners irrespective of their financial circumstances.

It’s a big deal because Sydney Paige is upping the donation match this round from its traditional one purchase/one donation model.

Sydney Paige has agreed to donate two of their premium backpacks for every bag purchased while Rainbow Pack has committed to fill all bags with their very own ‘homework’ supplies. This is a major twist to Sydney Paige’s Buy One/Give one mantra as they have implemented a Buy One/Give TWO model.

And the packs are also good for another very important thing: the environment. Sydney Paige backpacks are made from eco-friendly materials of 100% cotton canvas, natural leather, nickel free hardware and/or recycled polyester.

We know because we got a chance to check one out up close and personal: the Guidi Laptop Rucksack which actually helps Matthew McConaughey and his wife, our Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum Camila Alves McConaughey’s nonprofit just keep livin foundation.  This nonprofit works with local non-profits to run after school fitness and wellness programs in inner-city high schools and the results have been incredible! Participants get in shape and gain confidence while also improving their grades, attendance and behavior.

My daughter GiGi (pictured below) headed off to school with a pack provided complimentary of the company in exchange for the review. Indeed, the material was quality and the hardware was durable. It is light weight and not too heavy. A lot of back packs weigh a lot even while empty but after a child adds their books and perhaps a laptop or other tablet in there, it can be very hard for him or her to carry.

The price point is medium at $95 but when you consider that the pack will also be used in charity, it becomes worth the investment. When you know that your purchase will actually help another person, and in this case another child, it moves it closer to the basket of other forms of active philanthropy.

It’s definitely a product we can support and get behind! kudos to Sydney Paige, Rainbow Packs, the just keep livin’ foundation and others working to help make positive impacts in the lives of more children.

Yo! This New Hip Designed Baby Tub is Mad Cool, LOOK!

I saw this bathtub and got excited because it looked so neat.

The Shnuggle is a compact bathtub for baby can be used anywhere in the home; in the kitchen sink, the shower; the family bathtub or even in the nursery.  It has a  large foam backrest that is warm against babies skin, making it very comfortable for newborn through toddler.

It has a non-slip rubber feet so it stays secure on whatever surface it is used on. I think it is wonderful that baby product manufacturers aren’t resting on their laurels and are producing new, inventive and innovative gadgets, tools and resources for parents and babies constantly! So I leaped at the opportunity to review this tub and receive a complimentary tub (retail: $35)  in exchange for our honest feedback.

Our Bellyitch reviewer Lauren used it and offered this feedback:

I gave my two month old baby boy a bath in the tub. I liked that I could set it on the counter next to my kitchen sink and fill it up with the spray hose. The way the tub is shaped was perfect for him. It kept his back and neck supported so I didn’t have to worry about him sliding down while giving him his bath. There was one thing I would change and that is the bath should have a drain hole in the bottom. Other than that, I loved it. I would definitely recommend this tub.

Lauren’s son is a newborn and we weren’t sure whether he’d be able to be comfortable in it, but it was perfect for him. It is a really decent price at $35. Check out the pic!

Pley’s Disney Princess Monthly Subscription Box is Here!

With the decline of retailers (more than 1,600 stores  set to close this year) and the growth of online shopping, subscription box services are on the rise – offering wine, cosmetics and even beard lotion to your doorstep.

Now, our little princesses can finally get in on the fun! This month, toy subscription box company Pley launched a brand-new limited edition, Disney Princess subscription, mystery box designed to empower girls.

For just $24.99 you’ll get a mystery box containing between 4-8 Disney Princess toys, activities and fashion accessories (all have $50+ retail value).

Each bi-monthly box tells the story of a new princess and, like a rags-to-riches princess story, the shipping box magically transforms into a castle, boat, or tower that can be decorated and played with, both reducing waste and increasing play value.

Little girls everywhere will anxiously await the sound of the doorbell, announcing their Disney Princess Pley Box delivery.

“Instead of throwing the packaging away, our physical shipping boxes become a part of the princesses’ story. Each box has instructions that transform the shipping box into a playable toy such as a castle, boat or a carriage that can be decorated and played with,” said Pley CEO Ranan Lachman. “We call it ‘Pleycycle,” and are proud to be a leader in reducing the environmental footprint of toy packaging.”

The box will be offered at a limited quantity and timed for delivery with the new Beauty and the Beast movie, a live-action retelling of the Disney classic coming to theaters in March!

Man, Companies have Really Upped their Baby Swaddler Game Up!

A cousin of mine is due to deliver her first child pretty soon and I’m stoked to help her prep for baby. If you couldn’t tell, I love pregnant women and babies.  One of the must-have items is the swaddle blanket with is essential for helping baby feel safe, secure and comforted during those very early weeks.

There are many swaddle blankets on the market and I am always pleasantly surprised about all the updates in baby tech. Here is a repost of an excellent review of  two distinctive models from our partners at BabyCubby. Both of these are products of innovative technology to accommodate advances in knowledge of early infant development:

Ergobaby Original Swaddle: This swaddle has been designed to easily and safely swaddle your baby, with comfort in mind. Made from 100% knit cotton terry, it is soft and cozy (and can easily be washed)! The Ergobaby keeps your baby’s hips in the proper position, while still leaving enough room in the removable leg pouch. It securely fastens the arms making the Ergobaby practically escape proof! The best part about this swaddle? Thanks to the removable leg pouch, you don’t have to unswaddle your sleeping baby for a diaper change! Can I get a Hallelujah?

The Ergobaby Original Swaddle is an excellent choice that many parents love! Here are a few thoughts to consider before buying:

  • One possible downside to the amazing removable leg pouch, is the possibility of baby kicking himself awake because his legs aren’t secured.
  • The Ergobaby Original Swaddle is made from 100% cotton, which isn’t the best material for cooler temperatures, so keep that in mind if you live somewhere a little chilly!

Ollie World Swaddle: This swaddle encourages your baby to be calm and improves overall sleep quality. Featuring velcro straps, theOllie makes swaddling easy! Additionally, the mix of polyester and spandex is great for moisture wicking, cooler temperatures and also keeping a nice snug fit! The Ollie World Swaddle also features a tie at the bottom which decreases the likelihood of hip dysplasia in infants. This makes diaper changes a breeze, while still allowing your baby a little wiggle room!

While the Ollie is also an exceptional swaddle blanket, some facts to think about are:

  • It does not have a removable leg pouch, but instead features a tie at the bottom. This allows for easy diaper changes, but does not secure the legs to keep baby from kicking.
  • It is significantly different in price, but also includes a laundry bag to properly launder it.

Happy shopping parents!

This Toy Will Teach Your Baby How to Code

Coding is all the rage and there are more jobs for computer programmers and in the tech space than there are people who can fill those positions. Now, parents can start molding their tots to be able to work in the tech space with Fisher Price’s Think & Learn Code-a-Pillar.

The toy teaches the basics of coding, like sequencing and programming, with segments of the caterpillar’s body. Each of these eight segments is labeled with different symbols and colors. Kids put them together, attach them to the caterpillar’s smiling, blinky-eyed, motorized head, and press a button to get the whole toy to move.

The child can cause the toy to move different ways. Here’s how it looks.

Fisher  Price also sells three expansion packs at $15 each, allowing kids to add additional features like turning 180 degrees, or making different sounds or lights.

The caterpillar also works with a free companion app on iOS and Android that teaches counting and patterns.

Order one for your baby! It debuted last January for $50, retail but is available for under $40 at

The last and final item in our Bellyitch’s Favorite Things Giveaway  is a router and app to help parents monitor their children’s devices.

If you are planning to get your child a new screen – tablet, phone, gaming system, laptop or computer- for Christmas, you could eliminate the need to be nagging them to turn off their device but using  KoalaSafe, a wireless router which is its own network that can schedule a time to turn off the devices, thus turning the internet off.

The Australia-based company recently announced their partnership with curbi,  an app which regulates screen time on handheld devices outside the home.

KoalaSafe Family Friendly Router with Parental Controls to easily protect and manage their screen time all year long – at home and on the road.

It has a family-friendly WIFI access point that’s easy to use. Through a simple smartphone interface, parents can set time-limits, site blocking and monitoring of youngsters’ mobile devices, laptops, PlayStations and more, which are connected through KoalaSafe.

This is a great trend in storybooks because it brings the experience of reading a book even more alive for a child. With Put Me In The Story, authors are allowing readers to personalize their copyrighted, bestselling books to create the ultimate gift.

The guys at Put Me In The Story will gift one fortunate Bellyitch reader with their own book, “Ginger, Can you Help an Elf“, one of the newest titles, which would be PERFECT for the holidays!
