Rappers featured prominently in a roundup of pregnancy related news, including some unexpected and unusual references related to Drake and Lil Nas X’s respective album releases.

Kylie Jenner confirmed what’s been speculated for weeks: She’s pregnant with baby No. 2.

The Kylie Cosmetics mogul documented her pregnancy journey thus far in a moving video she shared on social media on Tuesday. The clip starts off with Kylie holding a positive pregnancy test. She appears to film boyfriend Travis Scott’s reaction to the happy news as he can be seen hugging her in the bathroom.

Kylie Jenner with pregnant belly exposed in maternity share announcing her second pregnancy

And the hip hop community had a few odes to pregnancy recently.

Rapper Cardi B and her husband Offset from the rap group Migos welcomed their second child, a son.

The “Up” singer shared a tender Instagram photo of her and Offset sitting on a hospital bed cradling their newborn. She captioned the photo, “9/4/21” with a set of three emoticons including a blue heart, dinosaur and tiger.

The couple’s 3-year old daughter Kulture Kari was born on July 18th after they secretly married in September 2017.

Similar to her first, Cardi kept most of her second pregnancy secret, this time revealing it this past June during a performance at the BET Awards in June.

Rapper Drake released his much-anticipated latest album, “Certified Lover Boy” with a cover art that features a grid of 12 multiracial “pregnant woman” emojis wearing differently colored shirts.

British artist Damien Hirst designed the cover which Internet sleuths have stated looks to be a cross between the artist’s Spot Paintings with monochromatic canvases covered in rows of dots painted in complimentary colors and colourful dots and his work, sculptures of pregnant women is what seems to have inspired Drake’s CLB.

Rapper Lil Nas X stirred up some noise when he decided to do a maternity style photo to announce the birth of his latest album project. In photos, featured in a PEOPLE magazine spread, the “Montero” performer wears a prosthetic bump.

There was a lot of buzz and chatter over the social media display, including among women advocates who said it make a mockery of pregnancy, child birth and fertility struggles.

Maybe to difuse some of the hate, the “Old Town Road” singer invited expecting women to share a photo of themselves and their bump along with their CashApp account

A Trademark Pirate Is Squatting on Kylie Jenner’s Stormi Couture Name

Getty

It is not uncommon for celebrities to file for trademarks associated with their children, but as what happened with Beyonce who has had trouble claiming Blue Ivy, Keeping Up With the Kardashians star Kylie Jenner is facing a similar hurdle trying to capture the copyright of her daughter, Stormi.

Page Six reports that a company called Business Moves Consulting successfully trademarked the words “Stormi Couture” about a month after the birth of Jenner’s first child with ex Travis Scott in 2018.

It recently filed a challenge to Jenner’s application for that same term asserting that the dual trademark would likely confuse its own customers. The company also claimed that it doubted that Jenner actually had plans to use the mark and comply with the United States Patent and Trademark office’s requirement that the mark  have a “bona fide intent” to be used “in commerce for identified goods or services.”

Jenner has also filed for marks “Kylie Body” and “Kylie Body by Kylie Jenner” on Valentine’s Day. She already owns trademarks on “Kybow,” “Kyliner,” “Glitter Eyes,” “Kylie Baby,” “Lip Kit,” “Kylie Museum,” “Kylie Kon” among others.

The same company was also on the other side of a celebrity child name dispute when DJ Khaled sued it in 2018, claiming that it was selling clothing using his son Asahd’s name.

A Mississippi Brand strategist named Curtis Bordenave is the face behind the company and has successfully trademarked the words Sirius, Z100 and the call letters for a bunch of other radio stations. He trademarked but eventually lost his initial application and claim to Cardi B, Asahd, and the words Radio Station, Call Letters, Mansplain and Alternative Facts.

According to a Clarion Ledger article about him, the married father of four travels to hair shows and teaches people how to manage their intellectual property.

Besides Kylie Jenner, Which Celeb Wears Their Baby as An Accessory Best/Most?

Mommy and Me fashion is not a new concept.

I think most of us can attest to noticing how our fave and fabulous Fashion Instagrammers manage to turn their brands into mommy brands seamlessly by featuring themselves in matching stylized outfits with their baby.

When celebrities who are most famous for one thing, like acting, being on a reality TV sow, modeling, do this, they are accused of wearing their baby as an accessory.

I think Victoria Beckham might have been the first referenced that way after she welcomed her last child and only daughter Harper in 2011, but certainly, I think we all can agree, that if we were to crown a champion celeb who appears best styled with a child, Kylie Jenner would be crowned the queen.

I’ve scrolled through my Insta feed and identified about 10 that look to use their babies as accessories the most/best. I’m not judging. Not saying it’s good or bad, but visually, they look so well coordinated and stylized, we cannot help but to take notice, and stare in awe!

In the next few days, I’ll share a few posts outlining the 10 celebrity women I think accessorize their personal brands with their baby the most/best.

Stay Tuned, but do drop me a note at jj (at) bellyitchblog.com if you have a candidate that should definitely be on this list.

Teen Vogue: Kylie Jenner Escapes the Young Mom Stigma Moms of Color Receive

It was just a little while ago that Kylie was a little bright eye little girl. Like less than a half decade ago. She was dating little Jaden Smith for goodness sake.

There is anteresting piece in Teen Vogue how young mothers who are not Kylie Jenner are stigmatized and blame for the downfall of their entire community, yet rich privileged moms get a pass. Well, I think there can be an emphasis of “rich” because I think the teen moms of MTV’s Teen Mom are judged pretty harshly as well but I get what the author is getting at. Because while MTV tried to avoid stigmatizing the usual suspects by mainly casting white teen moms, they ended up making those moms famous— so in essence, they were rewarded for being a teen mom. The Catch 22 of it all!

Anyway, Lara Writ writes:

Kylie’s privilege of privacy also helped her shy away from a lot of the stigma and shame projected onto poor women and black and brown mothers. Her whiteness and wealth means she won’t receive the same level of criticisms or judgements — not that she should, no one should ever be shamed for their pregnancy. However, it is important to note that because of our capitalist and racist society, as well as the U.S.’s history of chattel slavery, black mothers are subjected to pregnancy shaming and scrutiny, especially if they are unwed. Because of anti-black racism and misogyny (misogynoir), black mothers are blamed for the deterioration of patriarchal and traditional family structures, the social-ills which impact black communities and the sexist double standards of promiscuity. Black feminists have long described how the racist roots of American history gave birth to these stereotypes of black mothers, and how politicians like President Ronald Reagan used racist tropes to cut funding to social welfare programs.

When we discuss Kylie’s pregnancy and the birth of her baby, it’s also important to stray from shaming her for being a young mother while also taking into account her privilege. There are many things we should be changing in this country, from access to proper reproductive healthcare to better sex-ed to the dismantling of racism within all spectrum of society. Kylie deserved to have her baby without any stress-related complications, but so do all parents.

Pregnant Kylie Jenner Among Top ‘It’ Pop Culture Halloween Costumes This Year

Tis the season for crazy Halloween costumes.

Among the top pop culture Halloween costumes everyone will be wearing this year is a pregnant Kylie Jenner. Only a couple of days after the news broke that the youngest member of the Jenner/Kardashian clan was expecting, online costume merchant Yandy came out with a costume.

The costume comes with a white V-neck mini-dress and a fake baby bump. You can get a wig to match any one of the many hairstyles Jenner has rocked in recent years, carry a rose gold iPhone, and high heels and voila!

You know how each year there are ridiculous Sexy costumes? Well, you can thank Yandy for coming out with Sexy Fake News! ‘

Another major hit film this year was Wonder Woman so naturally, you can expect to see many girl wonders hitting the streets this Halloween!

On the small screen, the top award-winning show The Handmaid’s Tale,” which took home eight Emmys this year, with its dark and political undertones would make a pretty  recognizable costume. You can score one like this $64 version from Azure Costumes.

Beyonce with the Twins or before when pregnant for her pregnancy reveal will be good as will be anyone of the popular memes. The dancing hotdog from Snapchat would be a hit too!

14 Best Twitter Reactions to Kylie Jenner Pregnancy Reports

So TMZ is reporting that Kylie Jenner is pregnant with her and boyfriend Travis Scott‘s child. The two have dated since April and recently the youngest of the Kardashian/Jenner clan posted Snapchat pics of herself in oversized shirts that sort of looks like she is concealing a baby bump.

Not sure if it is true but E! Online, the online version of the entertainment company and channel that airs the Keeping Up With The Kardashian franchise shows (including the latest Life of Kylie) reported the news today so the odds are looking like it may be true. Who knows!?!?!

The jury is still out until confirmed but what we do know is that Twitter has had the BEST reactions to the news! Here are our faves:

Kylie Jenner and Cardi B Mom Shamed Over Nails

Kylie Jenner and Cardi B are queen of setting and staying on top of trends so of course the new moms are rocking the latest in ornate super long coffin cut nails.

However, that penchant for showing off their latest exquisitely designed hands is making them target for a new type of mommy shaming.

When the Kyie Lipkit mogul posted a recent photo of herself with daughter Stormi while showing off her gorgeous pink ombre nails, several fans replied criticizing the danger the nails could pose to a baby.

“Poor Stormi. I bet she has all over her tiny body bruises and scars from her mother’s witch nails,” one replied. “how do you look after her with those nails?”

Cardi B got similar treatment in a post sharing a new diamond bracelet her daughter Kulture is wearing. “Am wondering how she wash her baby’s cratch cuz her nails always long,” one fan wrote, “how do you do anything with yo baby with them nails?”

Kylie Jenner’s Decision To Pierce 5-Month Old Stormi’s Ears Cause Stir

Kylie Jenner is causing a lot of stir again! This time, it is over the first-time mom’s decision to pierce her 5-month old daughter, Stormi’s ears.

PEOPLE interviewed an expert who said she suggested parents wait:

“My advice is to wait until your child is old enough to participate in caring for the earrings and the discussion of whether or not they want this done to their body,” University of Rochester Medical Center pediatric emergency medicine doctor Elizabeth Murray tells the gossip site.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, “Ears may be pierced for cosmetic reasons at any age” and “there is little risk” involved if the piercing is performed cared for using the proper sanitary procedures and precautions.

The AAP does recommend using a round earring with a gold post to reduce the risk of infection and allergic reactions and, “as a general guideline,” to hold off on piercing a child’s ears until they are “mature enough” to care for the modification themselves.

Explains Murray about the benefits of waiting until a child is older, “I have seen far too many infants and toddlers choke on or swallow earring parts. I’ve also seen a large number of earrings end up in a toddler’s nose!”

Editor’s note: I can say that culturally, it is very common for black and Hispanic and Latino parents to pierce their babies’ ears very early. So there is that!

Kylie Jenner joins Long List of Celebs Who Don’t Show Their Babies Faces Online; Here’s Why

I saw a few reports about how makeup mogul and reality TV star Kylie Jenner has selected to stop showing her daughter Stormi’s face on social media after a few mean trolls left nasty comments about the infant.

As Celebrity Baby Scoop reported, “fans noticed that Stormi’s face was hidden and one follower, in particular, noted that she had ‘cut her baby out’, Jenner replied, ‘Yeah I cut my baby out. I’m not sharing photos of my girl right now.'”

Reportedly, she was excited to share her baby with the world but has had to retreat amidst the mean trolls, and her beau and Stormi’s dad Travis Scott is doing the same, only showing her tiny Nikes in a recent Snap Story.

I cannot say I blame her. One of this blog’s most viewed post is about Aoki Lee, the brilliant daughter of Russell Simmons and our Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum Kimora Lee Simmons, who avoids posting photos of her face on her own Instagram page, and how I believe it stems from nasty comments from the public about her looks.

The harsh critique from the public probably explains why Beyonce famously shielded her daughter Blue Ivy‘s face when she shared photos of her during her infancy to toddler years, and Kelly Rowland for the first year of her son’s life as well.

If you follow actress Zoe Saldana‘s social media, you will see that she was telling t to share a photo of her twin boys, Cy and Bowie and their baby brother either but has recently.

Over the pond, singer and TV presenter Rochelle Humes features many snaps of her daughters on Instagram but none of her face.

Another one of this blog’s bumpwatch alums Keisha Knight-Pulliam also refuses to show her daughter Ella Grace’s face on social media.

Then there are the other extremes who don’t show their children’s faces at all, like Kerry Washington, Eva Mendes, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively until recently.

The fans demand it, and many fuss about being denied the chance to gawk at their babies, as if it their right like these who commented under one of Knight-Pulliam’s pics.

And those who do share like Tia Mowry and Solange Knowles have found themselves having to snap back and put mean trolls in their place who called both their sons ugly, as recently as a few years ago.

These reactions prove why it is not a bad idea to keep something private.
