I’m Going to Defend Blake Lively from Her Haters Today…to a Certain Extent

Oh my Gosh, Becky!! There is a ton of faux outrage on Twitter over Blake Lively captioning a split photo of her front and rear posing in a Cannes Film festival dress, “LA face with an Oakland beauty”.

And by “ton”, I mean a few people and the media picked up on those few and blew it up as if there is a firestorm of criticism. I’d say most of the people upset probably weren’t even old enough to remember when Sir Mix A Lot released, “Baby Got Back.” In any event, the song has become the virtual anthem of big booty glorification. It is now trending and cool to have a large derriere thanks to celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez. (Ignore the fact for a moment that they were always celebrated and appreciated in the Black community)

It really is not that deep. And while I was scoping the over-inflated reports of non-existing shade, I noticed people bringing up the fact that the Gossip Girl alum got married to Ryan Reynolds on a plantation.

Big friggin deal! I vacation at a resort that was once a plantation. Guests come from all backgrounds, races and ethnicities. I mean what do people want to happen to all the land that were once cotton fields? Burn them and put up museums of shame? There are buildings currently erect in the south that once had “For Colored” signs in them. Are we to never use them either because they once were part of a sordid history?

The only criticism I thought maybe was warranted was her response to allegations that Woody Allen abused his child. Lively responded to a joke that the master of ceremony, a French comedienne made about Allen. She said she disliked the joke and finds Allen “empowering to women.”

She was also asked to respond to a recent essay by Allen’s son with actress Mia Farrow, Ronan Farrow. He basically again alleged that Allen abused his sister, and Allen’s daughter, Dylan when she was a child and called out Hollywood for ignoring it (For the record, Allen was cleared of abuse charges).

Lively, who stars in Allen’s latest project Cafe Society gave a cryptic response,

“I came home and went to bed at whatever time we finished,” the actress said. “I haven’t been in it, so I don’t want to speak on something I haven’t read. I think that’s dangerous.”

That response was… um meh.

But then again, he’s her boss (as in he is responsible for her paycheck from his film right now), even if he did marry the daughter his ex adopted when she was just 8-years old. errrr.

Writer Gives Props to Eva Mendes & Ryan Gosling for Shunning the ‘Bumpwatch’ Craze

Salon writer Nico Lang gives praise to Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling for being super private about their spawning offsprings. He also gives a pretty good run down on the “bumpwatch” and celebrity baby industry which is a multi-million dollar industry. It is not all damning, here is an excerpt:

Call it a win for privacy in the digital age, but even more than that, it’s heartening to see parents opt out of the toxic culture of celebrity baby worship that demands constant updates about famous offspring. Every single one of us should follow their lead.
This is an industry that treats children like corporate mergers, fashion icons, and objects of an almost religious devotion before they can even walk or talk, let alone sign an endorsement deal. When Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony gave birth to twins in 2008, they pulled in what was then a record sum for the first photos of a celebrity couple’s children: $6 million. That total would be eclipsed within months. Knox and Vivienne, the fraternal twins of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, would quickly become household names from the moment they were born. Their debut into the limelight—courtesy of People magazine—netted $15 million. That’s more than most movies make in their opening weekend.
But no financial impact was more massive than the Royal Baby, an infant whose coming was such a media sensation that Prince George’s July 2013 birth was estimated to generate $400 million in revenue for the U.K. economy. For celebrity news websites, the young royal’s birth signaled a boom time after a long drought:According to the New York Times, US Weekly had the biggest traffic day in its website’s history on July 23, the day that new mother Kate Middleton finally vacated the hospital with her “bundle of baby joy.” The same was true for People’s site, which reported a nearly 50 percent boost in traffic on the very same day. The magazine’s print publication on the royal birth was its biggest-selling of the year.
At the time, the editor of the gossip website Hollywood Life, Bonnie Fuller, predicted that Prince George would remain a cash cow for tabloid publishers. “The royal baby will become a regular beat, just like Shiloh and Suri were the babies of six years ago,” Fuller told the New York Times, also referring to Suri Holmes-Cruise, the now 10-year-old daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. “The two babies that Hollywood Life audiences are going to be obsessed with are going to be Prince George and Kim Kardashian’s baby, North West.” US Weekly editor Mike Steele called it the “royal baby boom.”

30 Celebrity Moms We’ve Profiled Who Have Since Split with their Kid’s Dad

Breakups happen! When it comes to several of the celebrity women we have ‘bump watched’ over the course of the 8 years of this blog’s existence, they’re not interested in sticking it out for the baby when the relationship heads south.

And thus, not only is BellytichBlog an institution that chronicles celebrity births, it also is a memoriam, of sorts, to relationships that once were. A significant number of pregnancies we’ve bumpwatched from pregnancy through birth were part of unions that have since dissolved.

The most recent is Idris Elba and his make up artist Naiyana Garth who reportedly just broke up. The couple welcomed their first child together in April 2014.

And the breakups aren’t always pretty.

Just this week, songstress and model Ciara filed a $15 Million defamation lawsuit in response to comments her ex hip hop artist Future has said about her in the media, traditional and social media.

Last week, Amber Rose found herself caught in the middle of a Twitter beef between Kim Kardashian‘s husband Kanye West and her ex Wiz Khalifa. West mentioned Rose and Wiz’s son Sebastian and Rose had to go off on him, revealing some intimate deets about their sex life when they were together, obviously to embarrass him and teach him a lesson about dragging her into his social media fights.

“I wouldn’t have said anything if it was just between him and Wiz,” Rose said on theAllegedly podcast. “That’s two grown men hashing it out. That’s their business. I would have kept it cute and just minded my business, but you don’t bring in my baby. That’s so corny.”

She and Kim posted the same “usie” on their respective social media accounts to signal the truce.

Last Summer was a big heartbreak time with the breakups of Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck, Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, Sienna Miller and Tom Sturridge, Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick, Charlize Theron and Sean Penn and Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton.

Some celebs have broken up before the baby was even born: Christina Milian, Kelis, Heidi Klum and January Jones and many more split with their respective partners before they even gave birth.

Or shortly thereafter…. A couple of year ago, Ciara, Eva Marcille (nee Pigford) and Amber Rose split with their partners before each of their babies turned 6 months old. A few years ago, Selma Blair and her ex Jason Bleick split up 14 months after welcoming their first child together.

No matter what happens, most children grow up in wonderfully co-parenting situations and survive and thrive!

Co-Existing: Breastfeeding, Motherhood and Glam Squads

In Hollywood (and Bollywood) getting pregnant and having a family can disrupt a woman’s career but not so much anymore.

Motherhood isn’t halting opportunities and production can and do work around a star’s pregnancy. In recent years, many celebrity parents are showing their social media fans that they don’t let motherhood interfere with their work either. They can do both.

Gisele Bundchen‘s famous breastfeeding while getting glam shot was controversial because vanity and glamity aren’t supposed to co-exist with motherhood and breastfeeding, socially.

But they can co-exist and since Bundchen’s photo, other celebrity women like Lily Aldridge, Molly Sims, Kim Kardashian, Ali Larter, Terri Seymour and most recently, Kandi Burruss have shared photos of themselves tending to their babies while getting glammed up for an event.

Perfect and just in time to update last year’s list of celebrity glam squads. Last year, I hunted down the various glam squad photos celebs have posted on Instagram, WhoSay and Twitter. This small team that help get a celeb woman ready for an event, award show or other red carpet moment consist usually of a hairstylist, a manicurist, a stylist, a make-up artist and a personal assistant. They work in tandem and sometimes simultaneously and the glam squad photo shows them in action.

Of course, most of the glam squad photos are staged. Let’s be real. I wouldn’t want to be having my hair hot curled while my head is being maneuvered and shifted by the make up artist. Ouch. I’ve had a curling iron dropped on me before and I have the scar still to prove it.

Also, showing off your glam squad is another way of telling your followers and fans that you are that special that you can’t get dressed on your own. This is not shade. I’d hire myself a team in a hot second! And you know this because even famous stylists who once were glam squad members are now celebrities in their own right. (think June Ambrose and Rachel Zoe)

These days, you can even rent one. Companies like Miami-based GlamSquad (pictured above) will bring a team to you starting at $75. Not bad!

These 40 Celebrities had Babies After Age 40

When Actress Laura Linney gave birth to her first child last year, January 15, 2015, she became the oldest celebrity woman to give birth “naturally” at age 49. She outseated actress Kelly Preston who gave birth to her son Benjamin when she was 48. It was the first child for the The Truman Show star and her husband since 2009, Marc Schauer.

Linney was among a long list of celebrities who managed to stay under the radar for the majority of their pregnancy including: Tamar Braxton, Adele, Nicole Richie, Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Simpson and Beyonce who all announced at the 5th month mark that they were “with child.” She was more successful than Lost actress Evangeline Lily, who never told anyone she was pregnant and was eventually busted by paparazzi at 8 months pregnant while she was living in Hawaii. Linney also bested Jennifer Hudson who looked to be about 8 months pregnant when a wayward photographer caught her and her boyfriend out and about, trying to be inconspicuous.

And at 49, Linney also joins the over 40 baby club which includes:

NICOLE KIDMAN gave birth to her first child, Sunday Rose, at the age of 40 with her husband, Keith Urban.
SUSAN SARANDON gave birth to her son, Jack at age 42. Three years later, she welcomed another son, Miles, at age 45.
BROOKE SHIELDS underwent seven rounds of in vitro fertilization treatments. After these treatments, she gave birth to her first child, Rowan, at age 37. At the age of 40, she traditionally conceived her daughter, Grier, with husband Chris Henchy.

2016 Golden Globes: What they Wore; Who Won (PHOTOS)

The 2016 Golden Globes brought out the glamour and glitz as the Hollywood Foreign Press Association set out to honor the top talent in film and television at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, on Sunday, January 10.

As usual, we highlight the celeb moms we’ve covered in the past who we spotted receiving and presenting awards and shining on the red carpet during arrivals.

A fave of ours, Tarji P. Henson, won her first Golden Globes for her supporting role as Cookie Lyons in the hit FOX drama Empire and another past feature Kate Winslet took home the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in the movie Steve Jobs.

Viola Davis presented and was up for a win for Best Actress in a TV drama as was Regina King who had a nod for her role in American Crime. Davis lost to Henson and King lost to the upset of the night, Lady Gaga for her role in American Horror Story: Hotel.

Jennifer Lopez, Olivia Wilde, Bryce Dallas Howard, Kate Hudson and Maggie Gyllenhaal presented awards.

Shear & Glimmer on the AMA’s Red Carpet and Host J.Lo’s 10 Dress Changes (PHOTOS)

Sunday night was the American Music Awards at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California hosted by Jennifer Lopez with intermittent announcement duties by Ciara who left little to the imagination in a well constructed Balmain dress.

As usual, we tracked some of the celebrity moms that we’ve “bumpwatched” in the past to check out what and who they wore on the red carpet or on stage.

Gwen Stefani performed “Used to Love You” but before, she walked the red carpet in a stunning sheer and panel Yousef El-Jasmi dress. Carrie Underwood won the AMA for Favorite Country Female artist and sang her hit song “Heartbeat” during the show. On the red carpet she wowed in an Ellie Madi dress, Greymer shoes, Kimberley McDonald earnings and rings by Kimberly McDonald and Anne Sisteron.

There was much shine from all the sequined dresses which dominated this year’s red carpet. Paula Abdul, Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato all did sequins as did our Bumpwatch alum Danica McKeller.

Shear with jewels. Shear with metallic. Sheer with lace. It seems there were many ways to present shear. The trend from last season has spilled over as we saw it on Ciara in Balmain, model Hannah Davis, who also presented an award, in Naeem Khan dress, Stuart Weitzman shoes, and Anita Ko jewelry, and Stefani while performing in Jean Paul Gaultier.

Jennifer Lopez must have won the award for most dress changes during a show as she wore a reported 10 dressed during the course of the evening. My favorite was her red carpet dress. Wow!

Celebrity Couples whose Union Didn’t Survive Their Baby’s First Birthdays

US Weekly reports that Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green have split after 11 years together.

It is the latest in a slate of high-profile celeb break ups this summer including Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck, Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, Sienna Miller and Tom Sturridge, Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick, Charlize Theron and Sean Penn, Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton.

Break ups are sad and we’ve notice that in the 7 years that Bellyitch Blog has been in existence, a substantial amount of celebrity women who we have had on our “bumpwatch” list have broken up with their respective significant others.

Some broke up before the baby was even born: Christina Milian, Kelis, Heidi Klum and January Jones,and many more split with their respective hubby/baby daddies before they even gave birth.

Last year, Ciara, Eva Marcille (nee Pigford), and Amber Rose split with their partners before each of their baby’s turned 6 months old. The separations have been messy, still. A few years ago, Selma Blair and her ex Jason Bleick split up 14 months after welcoming their first child together.

Others we’ve covered who have called it quits include: The Jamie Foxx show actress Garcelle Beauvais, TV host Padma Lakshmi from Top Chef, Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Freeman from My Wife and Kids, Lauryn Hill, Kimora Lee Simmons (Djimon Hounsou days), Hilary Duff, Fantasia, Halle Berry, Jill Scott, Kate Hudson, Jamie Lyn Spears, Lauren London, Monyetta Shaw (NeYo’s ex), Golden Brooks from “Girlfriends”.

At this point, it’s probably safer to start chronicling those who are still together because they are the new exception, not the rule in Hollywood, it seems. But hey, so long as everyone is happier and better off apart and the off-springs are co-parented well with little to minimum drama, right?

Our 2015 Pop Mom Style Icon is Kourtney Kardashian

It’s been over a year since we named a Bellyitch Blog Pop Mom Style Icon.

We’ve noticed mom-to-three Kourtney Kardashian has trimmed down and has also shed her Bohemian hipster styling for a more edgy sexy look. She has also been experimenting with more fab fashion choices, on top of balancing three kiddos on her hip.

The eldest of the Kardashian girls can thank a collection of Gianvito Rossi pumps and booties, her signature Saint Laurent fringe bag, distressed jeans, smart cut-off denim One Teaspoon shorts revealing super toned legs and fitted t-shirts for the makeover.

For the transformation, we’re giving the Keeping Up with the Kardashians reality TV star the award this year.

It has been over a year since we acknowledged a fashion-forward celebrity mom worthy to receive our elusive Posh Mom Style Icon designation.

The last mominista recognized with the honor was Jennif er Hudson .

The designation acknowledges and recognizes fashionable celebrity moms who are effortlessly stylish with or without the help of a celebrity stylist.

We acknowledged songstress P!nk in 2012. Before her, First Lady Michelle Obama was dubbed an icon in 2011.

Other designees include Jada Pinkett Smith, Jennifer Lopez, Kelly Ripa, Victoria Beckham, Tichina Arnold and Christina Milian.

We spotted some of our diva-level Bellyitch Bumpwatch alums recently sporting the feminine pattern in sophisticated dresses and billowy peasant tops.

Jennifer Lopez wore a black and silver floral Dolce & Gabbana cap sleeve mini floral print dress with a matching D&G Sicily mini printed leather shoulder bag and white pumps at a recent event.

Beyonce, who is on active Bumpwatch, was seen recently in a billowy Lucy Paris floral peasant top with black trouser shorts and sandals. Late last month, the singer-songstress headed out in a Dolce & Gabbana knee-length dress that she accessorized with black Ray Ban sunglasses, a Stuart Weitzman Nudist Ankle Strap sandal and a nude Dannijo Lypton Chain detail cross body bag.
