Of Course Kanye West named his son ‘Saint’, Of Course

anne geddes

Well, when your ego is as large as Kanye West’s, a man who nicknamed himself Yeezus after Jesus Christ, then you’d understand why he’d name his son Saint.

West and his wife Kim Kardashian-West announced the name they gave their newborn son who arrived this weekend.

A source close to the couple told US Weekly that they had been referring to the  baby as “Saint” long before his birth because they regarded him as a miracle baby given their struggles to conceive the second go-around.

“I had this condition called placenta accreta. There were a couple little operations to fix all that, so that created a little hole in my uterus, which I think made it really tough to get pregnant again,” Kardashian is quoted telling  C Magazine. “It was a long road. I would go to the doctor in Beverly Hills every day at five in the morning to get tested to see if I was ovulating . . . I was trying everything: I did acupuncture and got a nutritionist to eat healthier, thinking that was an issue.”

A ha!!! And…it fits with the family theme.  If you’ve ever read any Kanye West quotes you will realize that there’s a little bit of narcissism going on there.

North is the highest place you can go.

There is also royalty in the family. The kid’s cousin, Kourtney Kardashian’s youngest child is named Reign Aston Disick.

In the Catholic tradition, martyrs who die promoting or defending the faith may eventually become canonized by a Pope and become Saints. It’s a lengthy process that starts with tons of sacrifice and devotion.

Or….you can just skip all that, appoint your child the same name yourself and call it a day.

After all, as someone pointed out to me, there are children named Angel and Messiah. Also, many Hispanic parents name their kids Jesus. (pronounced  hey-sous) so Saint isn’t a far stretch, albeit its uniqueness.

We’ve all grown to accept and love North’s name and likely will do the same with Saint.

Australian Blogger Blasted for Funny sign Posted on her Twins’ Pram

twins

An Australian blogger who is a mom of three including twin girls is catching heat for a fun photo she posted on Facebook (and Instagram).

Uncanny Annie said in response to getting the same series of questions from well-meaning strangers in the street, she wanted to post the following sign in front of her stroller as she pushed 1-year old Delphine and Cheska about. She didn’t of course, but that didn’t stop many of the 21,000+ people who have liked the photo or friends of the over 7,000 who shared it to pepper the blogger with criticism.

Many called her ungrateful for complaining about something that is considered a blessing among many, to have two healthy twins. Others called her neglectful.

Annie returned to reply that had she known the photo would have gone viral and offended so many, she wouldn’t have shared it. Still she maintains it was a joke.

It reminded me of a past 2011 blog post about the three parts of the body of a strangers baby you should never touch.

DoNotTouch1

Here is a list of some of the questions from Annie’s sign:

“Yes they are mine.”

“Yes they are twins.”

“No, not identical.”

“Conceived by f***ing.”

“Born via C-section.”

“Yes, my hands are full.”

A Yahoo! Parenting blogger who covered this story shared some of the strange questions she and others have been asked randomly by strangers on the street:

“C-section or vaginal birth?”

TOP 10 THINGS YOU SHOULD NOT SAY TO A WOMAN AFTER REVEALING THE NAME SHE’S PICKED FOR HER BABY

“Are you trying?”

“Are you going to have another?”

“How long are you going to continue nursing?”

“Isn’t she a little old for that?”

“Is that drink for you?”

“[Upon hearing I was formula feeding]: But doesn’t that make babies obese?”

And, for the win: “Are you planning to have you vagina stretched prior to delivering your baby?”

Read the comments to the story to get other examples other parents contributed there.

What would you add to the list?

Study: Over-exercising can delay conception

Exercise is a plus for women trying to become pregnant, but overdoing workouts might make it harder to conceive — unless you’re overweight, researchers report.
Usually a risk factor for most health problems, being overweight or obese didn’t hinder fertility in heavy women who logged vigorous workouts — running, fast cycling and aerobics. However, healthy-weight women who performed more intense workouts were more likely to experience delays becoming pregnant.
The study was led by U.S. and Danish researchers who tracked physical activity and fertility in thousands of Danish women.
While moderate physical activity was associated with a small increase in fertility rates among all women, study author Lauren Wise, an associate professor of epidemiology at the Boston University School of Public Health, said, “Our study found that higher levels of vigorous exercise were associated with lower fertility rates in normal-weight women, but not overweight and obese women.”
Wise said the findings indicate that physical activity of any type might improve fertility among heavier women, but their normal-weight counterparts who want to improve their pregnancy odds should sub in low-key workouts such as brisk walking and gardening. In other words, marathon runners who want to conceive might want to scale back on those pavement-pounding workouts, she said.
Other studies of competitive female athletes suggest that intense workouts disturb women’s monthly menstrual cycles and lead to a lack of ovulation and even the absence of menstrual periods, among other problems, Wise said. But, she added, high-intensity exercise might also impair implantation when a fertilized egg attaches to the wall of the uterus.

Sherri Shepherd’s surrogate delivers amidst messy 3-way custody battles

Last year, we reported that The View  star comedian Sherri Shepherd and her then new hubby Lamar Sally were expecting a child via surrogate.
Things got complicated when the couple, married 3 years, split as the baby was still being gestated. Meanwhile, Shepherd’s ex Jeff Tarpley with whom Shepherd had a son, 9-year old Jefferey, complicated things even further by filing  court papers seeking sole custody of the couple’s son and spousal support. Tarpley accused Shepherd of being an absentee mom due to her hectic schedule as a speaker, author, actress and TV personality. Shepherd countered accusing Tarpley of being an absentee dad too.
And amidst the battle of who should get custody of the baby who was being incubated by the surrogate, Shepherd reportedly declared she no longer was interested in parental rights.
Well, the complicated situation just got even more real now that TMZ is reporting the surrogate delivered the couple’s baby on Tuesday, August 5.
Surrogacy law is a relatively new area and getting more cases and more parents who are unable to conceive “naturally” are resorting to gestational surrogacy.
The state where Shepherd and Sally married, New Jersey, doesn’t even recognize surrogacy agreements.
Making the whole ordeal even more difficult even further is the fact that Sally is trying to get the prenup he signed with Shepherd invalidated.
So much drama. Will think about all involved but especially the children trapped in this very tough situation.

Basketball Wives: Meanest thing said ever about infertility on realityTV (VIDEO)

Last night, on VH1‘s Basketball Wives LA finale, cast member Sundy Carter ended an argument with her show nemesis, Ovarian cancer survivor Brandi Maxiell in the worst way.
Back story: Maxiell contracted the deadly disease at age 24, but is healthy now and recently has been struggling to conceive a second child with her husband Orlando Magic player Jason Maxiell. The two have a son.
After Brandi & Sundy exchanged some harsh words inside a rented home where the two and other cast members were staying, Sundy told Brandi, “I have three healthy kids, go work on trying to get you some!”
She also referenced Maxiell’s medicine and infertility shots, telling her to go take them so she “can make a baby.”
How horrible!
The spat spilled into social media, with Carter insisting she still hasn’t apologized despite knowing how mean-spirited and below-the-belt her statements were and all the tremendous backlash she has gotten.
Some have called on VH1 to kick her off the show or cancel it

The show’s creator and executive producer Shaunie O’Neal (Shaquille O’Neal ex) felt compelled to issue a formal statement and delivers on her Instagram.

Watch the clip from the show here with the worst statements coming at the end:

Snooki is expecting her second child, due along with bestie JWoww

Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi got her wish about being preggers as the same time as her Jersey Shore bestie Jenni “JWoww” Farley.
She told  US Weekly that she and fiancé Jionni LaValle are expecting their second child. The couple is already parents to 19-month old Lorenzo.
And it was a little bit of a challenge to conceive but not that much.
“Jionni and I were trying to have our second baby since November, so every month we kept taking tests,”  she told the mag. “I’m due in the fall around my wedding time. Busy year!”
The Snooki and JWoww star of the MTV reality TV series said she has no plans of putting off her wedding because of the pregnancy.
“I can clarify that our wedding is still on, and we are madly in love with each other,” she said, “We’ve waited long enough and cannot wait.”
To avoid the 27 hours of labor she endured for her first delivery, the pint-sized NY Times best seller said she planned to eat healthy and continue working out with her trainer sensibly.
She said she wants to look good in her wedding dress even while pregnant.

New Book: Celebrities having babies in 40s fool average women on pregnancy odds

Don’t let all these celebrities having babies in their 40s fool you into thinking you’ll be able to easily get pregnant.
That is the message author Tanya Selvaratham relays in her new book “The Big Lie: Motherhood, Feminism and the Reality of the Biological Clock”
In a recent CNN review of her book, Selvaratham says older celeb moms like Halle Berry, Tina Fey, Nia Long, Julianne Moore, Kelly Preston,  Uma Thurman  and others have average women thinking having babies in their mid to late 40s may be easy.
“We see celebrities having kids seemingly without any problems and we have no idea what they went through,” Selvaratham says. “We see the end result, but not the struggle.”
Forty may be the new 30, but our ovaries have not gotten the same makeover, CNN notes. Even with all the advances in reproductive technology, our eggs have a finite shelf life and the odds of having a child over 40 years old are shockingly slim.
Yet, because of women delaying the start of their families and other reasons, there are more childless women in the US than in year’s past. In 1976, one in 10 woman between ages 40 and 44 was childless. By 2006, that numbered doubled to one in 5, according to the U.S. Census.
The book may also have been driven by the author’s own fertility struggles which took a toll on her marriage.
It seems Selvaratham’s doctor may be part to blame for her troubles. After suffering her first miscarriage at 37, Selvaratham’s doc told her she still had time to conceive, influencing her decision to delay trying again until later. She learned later the delay in time probably made it harder.
According to the Southern California Center for Reproductive Medicine, a woman in her 20s has a 20-25% chance of conceiving naturally per menstrual cycle. In her early 30s, the chance of pregnancy is 15% per cycle. After 35, the odds of pregnancy without medical intervention are at 10%. After 40, that number falls to 5%, and women over 45 have a 1% chance of conception.
