Kat D Welcomes First Child, Son Leafar

Congratulations to Tattoo artist, make up entrepreneur Kat Von D and her musician husband Rafael Reyes on welcoming their firs chils, son Leafar Von D Reyes.

The LA Ink alum announced the news on Instagram last Sunday, December 2.

“Thank you to all our belovedfriends+family, fans+followers for your patience in us announcing his long-awaited arrival!” she captioned a photo of her husband cradling their newborn.  “To be honest, my husband @prayers and I want to take the next 40 days [the 4th trimester] to focus on the baby and our amazing relationship transitioning into amazing parenthood — so, please excuse us if we’re not on here as much for a little while. Just know we love you all and thank you for all the words of love+support!”

The delivery was via water birth thanks to getting inspired by Ricki Lake‘s documentary “The Business of Being Born.”

Coincidentally, the documentary influenced Amber Rose’s delivery plans too!

“After that, we ditched the doctors and found a midwife,” she’s quoted as saying. “We did a lot of research. We’re excited.”

Reyes and Von D married in February and she announced she was expecting three months later.

Congrats!

When I wake up in the mornin’ love

And the sunlight hurts my eyes

The Breaking In star writes in the book, which is a collection of essays, “for three years, my body has been a prisoner of trying to get pregnant—I’ve either been about to go into an IVF cycle, in the middle of an IVF cycle, or coming out of an IVF cycle.”

Sooo happy for them right now!! Congrats!!!! The celebrity baby girl boom continues! No news yet on the sweet girl’s name. Stay tuned!

#RHOA’s Kenya Moore Welcomes Daughter, Brooklyn Doris Daly

Congratulations to Real Housewives of Atlanta reality star Kenya Moore and her husband restaurateur Marc Daly who welcomed their first child, a daughter, together tonight, Sunday, November 4, PEOPLE magazine reported.

The couple, married since June 2017, named their new arrival Brooklyn Doris Daly.

“Brooklyn because that’s where we met and fell in love, and Doris after my grandmother who passed away last year and who raised me,” Moore told People of the name’s significance.

According to the mag, “Brooklyn is very alert and active” and was born weighing at 5 lbs. and 12 oz.

Hours before welcoming her baby, Moore took to Instagram to give fans an update from the hospital.

“If you want to make God laugh have a plan… won’t be long now. Pray for us ?? #babydaly #weloveyou #prayers,” Moore captioned her photo where she is seen smiling while lying in a hospital bed.

The former Miss USA  conceived through in vitro fertilization and gave birth via emergency cesarean section after she shared last week on Oct. 27 that she had tested positive for preeclampsia — a pregnancy complication.

Moore said the condition caused her to gain “17 lbs. in ONE week due to severe swelling and water retention, high blood pressure, and excess protein in urine.”

She shared a photo of her swollen feet.

How to Prevent Diaper Rash

New parents are subjected to a veritable flood of information over the first few years of their child’s life, mostly through advice of the unsolicited variety from family members and friends. This advice usually covers every subject from parenting skills to preventing diaper rashes, and many times the advices changes as quickly as the people who give it do. Despite the onslaught of contradicting information, frequent changes, wipes, and ointments are all part of the diapering process for most parents as standard preventative measures, but even the most carefully-monitored baby can contract diaper rash.

A form of dermatitis, diaper rash most commonly occurs as a result of moisture trapped inside a diaper that irritates the skin and causes inflammation. Rashes can range from mild to quite severe, and some babies have skin that’s more sensitive and thus more susceptible than others. Parents should realize that a diaper rash isn’t an indicator of poor parenting or neglect; diarrhea, changes in diet, and even allergic reactions to the wipes and ointments designed to prevent such rashes can cause them. Additionally, urine isn’t the only source of potentially irritating moisture; even sweat can be trapped inside a diaper after a particularly vigorous play session and cause the delicate skin to become red and irritated.

Frequent Diaper Changes Are Your Friend

The most common cause of diaper rash is a soiled diaper that’s left on for too long, so the most effective way of preventing most rashes is to simply change your baby’s diaper every time it’s soiled, as soon after as possible. The same holds true for any time your child becomes sweaty after exerting himself, or gets damp from spills or other contact with fluids. By changing your baby’s diaper often you can also combat the spread of inflammation-causing bacteria carried by eliminatory waste. During a diaper change, be sure that you pat your baby’s bottom dry rather than rubbing it, which can further irritate already inflamed skin or cause inflammation to healthy skin.

Avoid Irritating Chemicals

Unfortunately, the fact that a product is marketed towards new parents for use in their baby’s care doesn’t automatically mean that it’s free of chemicals, fragrances, and dyes that can be irritating to his sensitive skin. If you’ve been vigilant about diaper changes and still find that you’re battling frequent diaper rash, it may be time to take a closer look at the wipes, ointments, and even the diapers themselves. Alcohol can burn his skin, and products containing propylene glycol may be responsible for spreading bacteria around the diaper area, rather than keeping it at bay. Look for brands that are specifically marked “fragrance free” and do not contain dyes or other coloring agents. Parents that opt for cloth diapers need not worry about the diapers themselves containing the same deodorizing chemicals as their disposable brethren, but should make sure that those diapers are laundered with detergents formulated specially for use with newborn and infant clothing items. Adding a half-cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle for cloth diapers can also reduce the alkalinity of the fabric, which may afford further protection.

Allow Air Flow

No one wants to deal with a leaky diaper, but swaddling your baby’s behind too tightly can cause a diaper rash quickly. Whenever possible, allow your baby to go without a diaper for short periods of time to promote drying and healing through natural air circulation. Using a plastic or rubber sheet to protect his crib mattress and letting him nap sans diaper on occasion is also an effective method for both prevention and treatment, though it can be relatively messy, especially as baby’s age.

Diet Can Contribute to Diaper Rash

Another powerful weapon in the diaper rash prevention arsenal is to breastfeed your baby for as long as you possibly can. The World Health Organization suggests that babies be breastfed for the first year of life, but any period of breastfeeding is better than none. The immune system boost that he gets from breast milk can help him avoid a prescription for antibiotics, which often cause diaper rash and even yeast infections in infants. Be prepared for irritation during the transition to solid food, and make sure to check and change his diaper more frequently than normal as his body adjusts.

10 Scary Things About Pregnancy Noone Tells You About

Bellyitch rewind

I was talking with a friend the other day and stopped short of going into all the gory details of what she can expect during labor and delivery. She asked me how come I wouldn’t finish my thought and I told her plain that there are certain “secrets” or rites of passage that you just have to go through and experience.

After you are done, you join the sisterhood of “having given birthhood”.

In fact, it’s not hard to explain, just uncomfortable and that is why these things are best left unsaid and out of pleasant conversation.

Lucky for you again, you follow this blog and you don’t have to go into it all unwarned. Below, I list the top 10 things your mom would never tell you, pregnant woman, about what you’re in for… that is if your friends haven’t already spilled the beans or you haven’t already gotten into in reading the endless amount of stuff I know you are reading right now.

10. At some point you will be on all fours or on your back, with your butt in the air and there will be a small team of people staring at your vagina, massaging it, and sticking their hands in and around your punany…no. Stop and strip down from waist down and spread out and imagine how uncomfortable that feels. Yes, at the point when you’re pushing you may not care about that, but at some moment, you’re gonna be like “oh wow, never imagined it would be like this.”

9. After you have the baby, you’re gonna have to push out the placenta and deliver it. It’s not like an extra baby or anything, but just when you’re all done, they’re gonna be like, whoa nelly, there’s something else in there we need. EEk!

8. At some point, you may want to shave your nether regions, but you won’t be able to see that area at all, let alone your feet when standing up. So, hopefully no one will notice and you don’t plan romping in a bikini anyway.

7. You may have lots of flatulence and find yourself passing gas all randomly and uncontrollably and there is no way to be pretty about it. Your family will understand and they’re the ones that matter the most, after all eh?

6. During the pushing stage, you may poop and if you get an epidural, you may not even know it. The nurses will just clean it up and may not even tell you. Bless their hearts. Your husband may see it and throw up a little in his mouth when he sees it, however. This is why many women try not to eat large meals when they know they are close to giving birth. In the past, women would take enemas to try to empty their bowels. Well, enemas aren’t recommended anymore and sometimes you go into labor when you least expect it and have no control over what leftover digestible matter is sitting at the base of your colon just as you need to start pushing that baby out! oh well!

5. After delivery, you may have to double up on your nursing pads because you may start to leak at the most inopportune time. The sound of someone else’s baby crying from afar may cause your boobs to ache and you to spontaneously leak milk. Imagine that happening in the middle of your presentation at work. Eek!

4. After giving birth, even via c-section, you ooze blood and other secretions for weeks even after having the baby. And if you have to have surgery, you won’t be able to move your legs and may have a catheter for the first day or two while your legs come back. A nurse will have to come in and empty your bedpan every once in a while. You will be amazed at how much you pee in a half a day. It is so weird to be going and not even know it because you have no feeling there.

3. If you have to have an episiotomy (which isn’t done much these days), to repair that and some tearing that you may have while pushing your baby out, you will have to sit there, legs wide opened again, while a doctor sews your vagina back up. Read that again, “sewing up your vagina.” It just sounds Icky! The recovery is interesting because you’ll have to be mindful of those stitches until they heal up.

2. Your baby might come out with an alien-shaped head (on account of the soft still developing skull that helps the baby come out the vagina) and it may have various splotches on its skin, fine hairs (called lanugo) all over its face and body and may have lots of with acne. In short, the baby may not be that cute to anyone else (but you maybe because it came out of you). A lot of newborns don’t start out as cute as they end up after a day, week or even month (or two). If you catch someone calling him/her “precious” or “sweet”, that’s code for “eeek! I hope s/he grows into her looks!” It’s okay, most of them grow into their cute and cuddliness soon enough. But in the end, they all are blessings, even if they start out looking like a creature from Deep Space 9.

1. You may not be able to have normal bowel movements for days even weeks after delivery, especially if you have a c-section or are given any drugs during the process. You may have a nurse come in and have to push a suppository in your anus to stimulate a bowel movement. Why? Because you won’t be able to reach up there easily after all that pushing and prodding (either vaginally or via surgery ) to get that baby (or babies out). Yup, for me that was the number one “oh em gee” and unexpected part of child birth, anyway. I am comfortable with my body and self and that caught me by surprised so… *sigh* Godspeed pregnant people!

Now you know! And like G.I. Joe always said “Knowing is Half the Battle”

Runner ups to the Top 10:

1. The Bill. I recall getting ours (though thankfully our insurance covered most of it) we were charged for each pill, each day watching TV, anesthesia, every shot, pillow, and comfort. For C-section that bill can be even higher. I had each of my children at an upscale private hospital and my last surgery came up to $11,000!!! Imagine, to have a baby? Granted we did pay for extras like a single room, but Good Lord, back in my native West Africa, could you imagine so much being charged so much to deliver a baby.?What’s up with the mark up?

2. Your belly does not go down immediately. You have a sizeable pouch about as big as you were at 6 months. That bump does not go down easily . Some women use belly bands to encourage it to go down. As the uterus shrinks back to its original size before you became pregnant, it will help it along as well. The only folks who have flat tummies after giving birth are celebrities that get tummy tucks right after giving birth (ethical or not, it happens!)

Shahs of Sunset Alum Lilly Ghalichi Mir Births First Child, Then Drops ‘Milf’ brand eyelashes

Former Shahs of Sunset reality TV star Lilly Ghalichi Mir and her husband Dara Mir welcomed their first child together over the weekend.

Alara Mir ❤️ Born 9/30/18,” the eyelash entrepreneur captioned a photo of herself cradling her baby girl with her hubby hugging them both. “Our hearts are so full. Thank you for choosing us to be your parents. ”

The ex-attorney also used the opportunity to plug one sixth of her latest eyelash offerings, her “The Living Your Best Life” collection.

“Wearing the ‘MILF’ Lash during delivery by @LillyLashes,” she finished off the caption. Other lashes in the collection are named “Trophy Wife“, “It’s Lit“, “Okurrr” (a signature term used and made popular by fellow Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum rapper Cardi B), “nstafamous” and “Yasss Queen”. All of them are pop culture terms and certainly fitting! I love the packaging and branding!

That’s how you do it.

Ghalichi and Mir got in August 2016 after dating for several months before having a lavish wedding last May 2017 in Beverly HIlls.

Per E!: “They met in an odd way—they were neighbors and didn’t even know it! She sought approval from her condo’s homeowners’ association to obtain an additional parking spot for her Ferrari and he was on the board. After exchanging emails, they met in their building’s lobby. The meeting was recorded on the complex’s security footage.”

Interesting! Congrats!

Nicole Richie Dishes On Her Tween Kids’ Personal Style

nicole richie joel madden and family

One of my very first Bellyitch Bumpwatch celeb moms Nicole Richie recently dished on her kids fashion aesthetic. Yes as tweens, kids have their own sense of style.

During an interview with E!, the “House of Harlow” designer and founder said about her kids having their own style identity, “my daughter is almost 11 and my son is 9 so they’re not trying to ask me to do anything.”

She expanded: “Sparrow dresses like [his dad and Richie’s husband] Joel [Madden] to not even think about it” but daughter Harlow dresses “feminine. She likes dresses…she goes into my closet.”

Cool! Watch the clip of the interview below:

What to Look For When Shopping for a Nursing Bra

It is an undisputed truth that your breasts and cup size are likely to double or maybe triple during pregnancy, while nursing and afterwards. The process of growing a baby includes producing milk in your breast ducks. It’s nature’s way of making sure your infant will be able to have nourishment when born.

The term engorgement refers to the overproduction of milk that has not been expressed (squeezed out by hand or a pump) or consumed by baby. This also causes a new mom’s breast to no longer fit in the bras she wore before becoming pregnant.

Many expecting and new moms will go up in bra size as well. This growth will require her to get an entire new selection of nursing bras, sports bras, lingerie, work bras and more. Fortunately, there are a lot of all-in-one bras on the market to ease the cost of having to go out and purchase a lot of new bras.

Personally, I still wear the bras that I got for nursing because they usually are made of superior material and are quality-constructed to last the test of time. They have to be given all that snapping and unsnapping required while breastfeeding an infant. Some women breastfeed their babies until 18 months and beyond so they have to invest in a top notch bra like Knix which makes a comfy 8-in-1 evolution bra that is multi-functional and stylish.

When shopping for a new nursing bra, make sure to get one that is 100%, a blend of cotton and Lycra or another stretchy synthetic that grow with your fluctuating breasts.  This feature is important because if a nursing bra is too tight and puts pressure on your breasts, it can increase risk of mastitis and clogged milk ducts.

Women with larger busts should look for bras with wide-set strap with extra cushioning, a back band that has at least three or four rows of hook-and-eye closure options and side seams that sit almost under the armpit.

Also, a nursing bra shouldn’t cut into your breasts or cause them to spill out. The straps shouldn’t dig into your shoulders, and the band across your back needs to sit horizontally without riding up.

Good luck nursing shopping!

At Age 68, Richard Gere Is Expecting With His Wife

Jeff Goldblum did it at age 60 and John Stamos at  age 54 — became first time dads at a very mature stage of their respective lives.

In the starting over in the parenting pool club is Mick Jagger   who became a dad again to a newborn at 73 and Mel Gibson who welcomed a baby at age 60 and now 68-year old Richard Gere is set to jump into the fray and will become senior dad to a newborn when his new 34-year old wife  Alejandra Silva  delivers their first child together.

The couple started dating in 2014 and wed earlier this year in a private civil ceremony.

Goldblum and his then 34-year old dancer wife Emilie Livinston welcomed their second child last year, the same year that Jagger and his then 29-year old ballerina girlfriend Melanie Hamrick , around the same time 60-year old Mel Gibson announced that he is expecting a baby with his 26-year old girlfriend Rosalind Ross and after another Stones bandmate 68-year old Ronnie Wood and his 38-year old wife  Sally welcomed twins in May 2016.

This will be Gere’s second child. He and ex-wife Carey Lowell share an 18-year-old son together. Silva has a 5-year-old son from her previous marriage. This is Gere’s third marriage.

Beyonce Vogue Cover Takeover: Talks Twins’ Labor, Delivery, Motherhood (PHOTOS)

In an unprecedented move, Vogue permitted Beyoncé to have editorial control over its popular September issue and not only did Queen Bey make history by hiring the magazine’s first Black photographer, Travis Wright, in its 126 history to shoot a cover, but she also gave us unprecedented insight into her pregnancy, labor, delivery and her perspective motherhood in her own in-person first person narrative!

It is a glorious issue! On Newsstands now. Here are some of the nuggets she shared with us all:

About the evolution of the magazine and fashion industry towards black people and people of color:

“When I first started, 21 years ago, I was told that it was hard for me to get onto covers of magazines because black people did not sell,” Beyonce told the magazine. “Clearly that has been proven a myth. Not only is an African-American on the cover of the most important month for Vogue, this is the first-ever Vogue cover shot by an African-American photographer.”

About the delivery of her twins who were born via C-section due to Preeclampsia:

“I was 218 pounds the day I gave birth to Rumi and Sir,” she wrote. “I was swollen from toxemia and had been on bed rest for over a month. My health and my babies’ health were in danger, so I had an emergency C-section. We spent many weeks in the NICU.”

It was a shocking experience that she credits her husband, Jay Z for helping her deal with:

“My husband was a soldier and such a strong support system for me,” she continues. “I was in survival mode and did not grasp it all until months later.”

About realizing that C-Section recovery takes a lot longer and is harder than vaginal birth recovery:

“After the C-section, my core felt different,” she stated. “It had been major surgery. Some of your organs are shifted temporarily, and in rare cases, removed temporarily during delivery. I am not sure everyone understands that. I needed time to heal, to recover.”

About embracing her new extra set of curves that have come compliments of being a mom to three:

After giving birth, “my core felt different,” she shared, and  added that he “embraced being curvier” and as she was preparing for her Coachella headlining shows.  And thought she went vegan temporarily, gave up coffee, alcohol and fruit drinks while getting in shame for that performance, she is cool with her different, more full and rounder body.

“To this day my arms, shoulders, breasts, and thighs are fuller,” she wrote. “I have a little mommy pouch, and I’m in no rush to get rid of it. I think it’s real. Whenever I’m ready to get a six-pack, I will go into beast zone and work my (butt) off until I have it. But right now, my (bigger bikini area) and I feel like we are meant to be.”

About lessons from succumbing to societal pressures for celeb women to peel off baby weight shortly after giving birth:

“I believed in the things society said about how my body should look,” she wrote. “I put pressure on myself to lose all the baby weight in three months, and scheduled a small tour to assure I would do it. Looking back, that was crazy.”

About the different way she is approaching recovering from twin delivery:

“During my recovery, I gave myself self-love and self-care, and I embraced being curvier,” the “Apesh*it” singer pens.  “I accepted what my body wanted to be… was patient with myself and enjoyed my fuller curves.”

Going back to Natural for the Vogue shoot

She purposefully went with the bare stripped away, back to nature, theme and for the Vogue shoot avoided “the wigs and hair extensions” and wore scant makeup in an attempt to inspire other women to embrace their natural bodies.

On growth from her 20s to today:

“I look at the woman I was in my 20s and I see a young lady growing into confidence but intent on pleasing everyone around her,” the multi-platinum global artist revealed. “I now feel so much more beautiful, so much sexier, so much more interesting. And so much more powerful.”

About connection to her slave and African ancestry:

“I researched my ancestry recently and learned that I come from a slave owner who fell in love with and married a slave,” she shared. “I questioned what it meant and tried to put it into perspective. I now believe it’s why God blessed me with my twins. Male and female energy was able to coexist and grow in my blood for the first time,” adding,  “I pray that I am able to break the generational curses in my family and that my children will have less complicated lives.”

On exposing her heritage and roots and culture to larger audience during Coachella:

“I had a clear vision for Coachella. I was so specific because I’d seen it, I’d heard it, and it was already written inside of me,” she writes about singing “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” known as the black national anthem, during her performance and quoting Malcolm X in between songs.

“I know that most of the young people on the stage and in the audience did not know the history of the black national anthem before Coachella. But they understood the feeling it gave them,” she explained. “It was a celebration of all the people who sacrificed more than we could ever imagine, who moved the world forward so that it could welcome a woman of color to headline such a festival.”

About what she wishes for her daughters and son:

As the mother of two girls, Beyonce says she wants her daughters to know that they can be anything, “CEOs, as bosses, and that they know they can write the script for their own lives.”

“They don’t have to be a certain type or fit into a specific category. They don’t have to be politically correct, as long as they’re authentic, respectful, compassionate, and empathetic,” she writes. “I want the same things for my son. I want him to know that he can be strong and brave but that he can also be sensitive and kind. I want my son to have a high emotional IQ where he is free to be caring, truthful, and honest. It’s everything a woman wants in a man, and yet we don’t teach it to our boys.”

Beyonce is currently embarking on the On The Run II tour with Jay-Z, which concludes on Oct. 4 in Seattle.

Awesome!
