VIRAL: Dad of the Year Goes To ‘Ballerina Dad’ (VIDEO)

Fathers relentlessly work for their families to ensure everyone is happy and content. More often than not, they are also a shield to protect their kids from any harm and help hold their hands to sail through the difficult times. One such father was crowned as “best dad of the year” on social media for his adorable gesture to help his little girl perform in front of an audience.

In a footage going viral, a doting dad rushed to the stage to help his daughter – Bella, who was fighting stage fear. Initially, he tried to give her company from the wings but when that didn’t work, he wasn’t shy to match steps with her with utmost finesse and style during her first dance recital. What melted many hearts was how he went onto the stage with another infant in his arms

In Motion School of Dance posted video of the event to Facebook where it went viral with more than 400,000 views.

“In Motion Dads are the best,” the school said. “Sometimes, you simply need your dad on stage to help bring out your inner ballerina!”

What Successful Parents Do To Help Cultivate Their Child’s Development

Parenthood can be overwhelming, frustrating, and mystifying. Kids change so quickly, it feels like they’ve hit some new and incomprehensible stage every week. But at the same time, you know just how important it is to nurture their growth and help them succeed as healthy, stable adults.

There are many resources for understanding how your child will develop and learn, perhaps too many. From parenting books to mommy influencers on Instagram, it can be hard to pick apart just what advice to take. You might be tempted to turn it over to the experts, but that opens up a whole new area of research and complexity.

Traumatic experiences in early childhood can stay with kids for a lifetime, and lessons learned early are similarly formative–but when they hit a new phase faster than you can keep up, it can be tough to know what will hurt and what will help.

One option is leapfrogging self-study and going for a more structured, professional approach. If you’re wanting to aid in development and fast-track and deepen your understanding of your child’s growth stages and associated needs, an early childhood education degree might be the right solution for you. It will give you the tools to understand and support your own child’s development, and it has the added benefit of equipping you to use your knowledge in a professional capacity at a later date if you so choose.

If you’d like to do some preliminary research on your own, studying the stages of child development is a good place to start. While every child is unique, knowing these stages ahead of time tend to help you prepare and make more informed responses to your child’s changing behavior and needs.

For instance, there are a number of points throughout childhood and adolescence during which children practice asserting their identities and forming an independent identity from their family and parents. These developmental stages can be traumatic and upsetting, frustrating both parents and children. But if you know roughly when it’s coming and are prepared, you’re better able to put frustrating changes in behavior into context and respond supportively instead of reactively.

Creating a safe, but structured space is another effective way to support child development. It sounds deceptively simple but can be challenging and high impact. Ideally, you want both physical and emotional spaces that offer your child the opportunity for freedom and exploration without significant risk. At the same time, strong boundaries are reassuring to children, though the type of boundary and ways you assert it will change depending on your child’s age. An effective boundary allows scope for imagination and freedom, but places guardrails between the child and actual danger.

You can support your child’s development by taking some time to understand the common developmental stages and average timelines, preparing for each new developmental stage, and creating safe spaces and appropriate boundaries in relation to the needs of that stage. Whether you self-study or pursue professional qualifications, greater understanding and the ability to prepare can transform your experience and help your child grow in a healthy, successful manner.

Drake/Pusha T Rap Beef: Would a Guy Denying His Son Do This? (PHOTO)

There is an innocent infant at the center of the latest rap battle between Drake and Kanye West GOOD label protege Pusha T.

If you care for the origins, you can find a timeline here.

The latest came from Pusha T who released a diss track asserting among many other things, like digs at Drake being abandoned by his own dad at age 5 and taunting death on a close friend and confidante of Drake’s who is suffering from the effects of advanced multiple Sclerosis, that Drake doesn’t acknowledge his own son.

But the fact is the fact the baby was conceived as a result of an 8-year on-again-off-again relationship with former French porn star turned surreal art painter named Sophie Brussaux, Drake has since conceded paternity. (Thanks to a Paternity Test)

Pusha T, the 41-year old rapper whose real name is Terrence LeVarr Thornton, takes shot at the couple’s baby on his diss track:

“Adonis is your son

And he deserves more than an Adidas press run, that’s real

Love that baby, respect that girl

Forget she’s a porn star, let her be your world, yuugh.”

The diss track is titled “The Story of Adidon” and apparently is in reference to an Adidas shoe line that will be named after Drake’s son, Adonis, and according to reports, will feature the young boy in the marketing campaign.

But as we blogged last October, Drake took his fans on a snap chat tour of his new home that included stops at the baby’s Hermès -themes baby nursery.

The family vacationed in Dubai and Brussaux has commented about how her son is living “the good life” at such a young age.

So the baby which was born on October 24, 2017, ironically on Drake’s birthday,  isn’t really being denied but perhaps kept in private for now.

There is a difference.

And for Wayback Wednesday purposes, below is a Snippet of our last October post:

Although Toronto rapper Drake denied that a   fling with model and former porn star Sophie Brussaux resulted in a pregnancy, a paternity test later, and there are reports out that he has set up a neutral Hermes-themed infant nursery and playroom in the multi-million dollar mansion he has been building in his home town.

Over the weekend, October’s Very Own took his followers on an MTV Cribs like tour of the digs. What caught people’s eye were the stops along the way that featured a pretty swanky gender neutral playroom.

These 25 Tips Will Make Your Life More Efficient

Put these 25 hacks can be put to practical, productivity-boosting use or serve as a bit of “me time” carved out of your day; either way, efficient habits can help you find a surplus of time in an otherwise hectic world.

  1. Hands Free for Time and Safety – While you’re driving, a headset leaves your hands free to manage the task of driving safely. After your commute, wearing a headset allows you to be productive with both hands while you’re on hold or conducting routine calls.
  2. Super-Charge Your Wake-Up Routine – Slapping the snooze button may be tempting, but you should jump out of bed and do ten brisk push-ups instead. When you stand up, you’ll be alert and ready to face the day.
  3. Keep Your Cables Tangle-Free – The same clips that keep large bundles of paper secure can keep your various cables from tangling, which takes forever to undo. Just clamp the clips along the edge of your desk, and feed cables through the holes in the handles.
  4. Jump-Start Your Breakfast Prep – Breakfast doesn’t have to be a cup of coffee and an energy bar on your way out the door. Preparing pancake batter and pouring it into an empty ketchup bottle at night allows you to take it out of the refrigerator and squeeze it directly on a hot griddle in the morning. No mixing, no clean-up!
  5. Open Blister Packs with Ease – Those plastic blister packs can take forever to open, shredding your fingers in the process. Before you start ripping into one, grab a manual can opener and run it along the edge. It’ll open the blister pack without pain or hassle.
  6. Refresh Your Collar Without Ironing – Setting up an ironing board and dealing with the tedium of ironing simply to refresh a shirt collar isn’t necessary. An electric hair straightening styling appliance will do the job just as well, with none of the time-consuming set-up.
  7. Keep Kids Safely in Their Beds – If you’re sacrificing valuable sleep because your child keeps rolling out of her big-girl bed, tuck a foam pool noodle into the fitted sheet along the edge of her bed. It creates a raised area that your child isn’t likely to roll over without waking herself up.
  8. Turn Your Takeout Container into a Plate – Chinese takeout is a delectable lunch, but eating straight out of the container can be a pain. If you have a relatively dry, sauce-free dish that won’t make a mess on a flat surface, just take the metal handle out of the box and let it collapse outward. Instant disposable plate!
  9. Skip the Fabric Softener On Towels– Fabric softener might make your towels more cuddly, but it cuts their absorbency significantly.
  10. Stave Off Boil-Overs – Juggling a dinnertime routine when you’re already rushed can lead to a huge mess, but resting a wooden spoon across the top of a pot of boiling water will at least prevent it from boiling over while your attention is elsewhere.
  11. Keep Takeout Warm En Route – If your car has seat warmers, flip the switch to the “on” position when you pick up takeout food. The warm seat will help to keep the food from getting cold on your way back.
  12. Take Garbage Out at Warp Speed – Suction issues can make it difficult to wrestle a garbage bag out of the pail. Drilling a couple of small holes on each side of the vertical edge along the bottom can eliminate that suction.
  13. Quick-Filter Email – A flooded inbox doesn’t have to be overwhelming. To target marketing mail, filter by the word “unsubscribe.”
  14. Dust Tiny Spaces in a Flash – Placing the conical cap of a cheap condiment bottle over the hose attachment of a vacuum cleaner creates in impromptu “tiny spaces” vacuum attachment.
  15. Ask For Directions Efficiently – If you’re lost in an unfamiliar neighborhood, the fastest and most efficient directions come from the staff of a pizza delivery restaurant.
  16. Shop for Groceries Sans List – If you don’t have time to make a comprehensive list, take pictures of the inside of your refrigerator and pantry with your smartphone. You can use these for reference while you’re at the store.
  17. Chill Bottled Beverages On the Double – If you’re craving a cold beverage and your entire stock is warm, wrap a bottle in a wet paper towel and leave it in the freezer for 15 minutes.
  18. Hull Strawberries in Seconds – Few things are as time-consuming as hulling strawberries, unless you insert a straw through the bottom so that it emerges at the stem, pushing the hull out along the way.
  19. Make Canvas Shoes Waterproof – Wet feet are irritating and create the need to change shoes while you’re out. To waterproof your favorite pair of canvas shoes, rub the entire outer surface with beeswax then heat with a hair dryer. When the wax cools, your shoes will be sealed from moisture.
  20. Boost Your Phone’s Speaker Power– If you need to boost the sound of your smartphone’s speakers for an impromptu conference call, drop it into a bowl to amplify the sound.
  21. Spread Cold Butter on Your Toast – Cold butter may eventually spread over warm toast, but it will probably tear it in the process. Using a cheese grater to mmshower the surface of your toast with slivers of butter will speed the melting process and preserve the wholeness of your perfectly toasted bread.
  22. No-Stove Grilled Cheese – Turning your toaster on its side and placing a piece of bread with cheese on it, cheese-side-up will melt the cheese while toasting the bread. Press the two together, and you have a no-stove grilled cheese in a fraction of the time. Watch it carefully though, so it doesn’t burn.
  23. Remove Chewing Gum from Fabrics – A wad of gum rubbed into your favorite scarf doesn’t have to spell the scarf’s end. Pop it in the freezer to let the gum harden, and you can usually break it off the fibers easily.
  24. Quick-Thaw a Frozen Lock – A frozen lock on your car door doesn’t have to make you late for an appointment. Just squirt an alcohol-based hand sanitizer on the key before you insert it, and the alcohol will melt the ice in a flash.
  25. Soap Sliver Time Saver – Don’t waste time fumbling with a tiny sliver of soap, just stick it to the back of a new bar. It’s not wasted and you’re not scrambling to keep in in your hands during a shower.

Memorial Day Pool Opening: Juvenile Skin Cancer Avoidance Tips

Just a public service sharing of some new information from St. Jude for parents about caring for their children’s skin this upcoming Memorial Day pool-opening season through Summer and beyond:

With the official start of summer this Memorial Day weekend, pediatric skin cancer specialists at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital are urging parents to take the necessary steps to protect their children when they are out in the sun this holiday weekend, including poolside or at the beach.

“During the Memorial Day weekend, parents should take simple steps to protect their children from extreme sun exposure, including avoiding going out when sun rays are strong and keeping infants out of the sun entirely,” said Alberto Pappo, M.D., director of the Solid Tumor Division at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. “Don’t assume children cannot get skin cancer because of their age. Unlike other cancers, the conventional melanoma that we see mostly in adolescents behaves the same as it does in adults.”

Research shows that sun damage contributes to melanoma in children and adolescents as well as adults. The research underscores the need for precautionary measures to avoid extreme sun exposure for children, including the implementation of routine prevention measures.

“While rare, melanoma is the most common type of skin cancer in younger patients and affects mostly teenagers. Children are not immune from extreme sun damage and parents should start sun protection early and make it a habit for life,” Pappo said.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is a leader in pediatric melanoma research and treatment.St. Jude provides treatment and second opinions for patients with pediatric melanoma around the country and beyond. Each year, the St. Jude Pediatric and Adolescent Melanoma Referral Clinic brings patients and families to St. Jude for two days of expert consultation, as well as medical examinations by leading specialists, educational seminars and an introduction to melanoma-related resources.

Melanoma is the most serious form of skin cancer because it often spreads to other parts of the body. Melanoma gets its name from melanocytes—skin cells that produce a pigment called melanin, which gives skin its color.

  • About 76,700 new cases of melanoma in children and adults are diagnosed in the United States each year.
  • About 7 percent of cancers in children 15 to 19 years of age are melanomas. Melanoma is most common in people of Caucasian descent, occurring five times more often than in Hispanics and 20 times more often than in African Americans.
  • Childhood melanoma may not fit into the same routine diagnosis symptoms as adults. Instead, parents should look for the following:
    • A mole that changes, grows or doesn’t go away
    • An odd-shaped or large mole
    • A pale-colored or red bump
    • A mole or bump that itches or bleed

Loved My Essence + Ford My City 4 Ways Food, Arts, Music and Lifestyle Festival DC Stop Experience

I had quite a busy, yet amazing and awesome weekend at the Essence + Ford My City 4 Ways pre-event dinner and food, music, arts and lifestyle festival’s DC stop.

The second annual event gives both brands an opportunity to bridge their respective audiences in a festive journey that infuses culture, celebs, influencers in an open air venue that is the revitalized  Union Square Market.

Before the Saturday day-long festival, I was fortunate to be invited along with a few bloggers, social media taste makers and the like to pre-game the evening before at a Dine and Paint and Sip and Paint event at ArtJamz, a preeminent creative art space in Dupont Circle, launched by DC’s Capitol File Magazine’s editor in chief Michael M. Clements, in the spirit of independence and innovation of the Washington DC artistic influences of Duke Ellington, Dave Chappelle, Marvin Gaye, Go-Go Music, Chuck Brown, Dave Grohl and more.

Before dinner, I sat down to chat briefly with Raj Register, Head of Brand Strategy and Growth Audience Market at Ford, who shared that Ford came up with the concept with Essence to curate from a “grassroots level” an experience event to be developed to the national level. The concept selected DC, Memphis and Atlanta because of these three cities’ high concentration of women and the opportunity to make maximum impact and reach for the target demo.

Register shared that Ford has a new partnership with the WAZE app “so instead of looking on your phone like we know you shouldn’t be, when you plug in your iPhone, it will activate the app”  and also talked a bit about other forthcoming tech partnerships. Some current and future vehicles will have “Wi-Fi” connectivity. “If you want it, we have it,” she added. Another wonderful addition is the rear view camera tech that will be standard in all vehicles moving forward! That’s great news for families. Good stuff!

During the festival the next day,  participants and attendees would get an opportunity to “Ride and Drive“, e.g., take a test drive or ride along in Ford’s recent vehicles in their fleet, and experience the new technology and other amenities for themselves first hand. It’s all a part of a mission to cultivate new brand affinity in emerging markets.

Back to Friday for a bit: after enjoying a yummy salmon dinner with wine, I and my fellow bloggers headed down to ArtJamz’s studio space to create our very own artistic interpretation of the Ford Mustang Pony. In between brush strokes, we noshed on dessert, a nice sampling of cupcakes and chocolate covered strawberries. It was a fun time!! I loved meeting new friends there and connecting and networking with the wonderful dynamic group of women who organized the event. It was a marvelous sisterhood experience!

Here are a few photos from the evening:

I enjoyed this dinner of blackened Atlantic salmon with grilled asparagus and potatoes au gratin so much, I went home and purchased a few stalks of asparagus to recreate the meal later.

Meeting new blogger baes!

We were joined by renowned artist Hamilton Glass who recreated the campaign’s logo on a wall in the art and dine studio.

At the event the next day, I ventured out in the drizzly day to experience the last stop of the My City 4 Ways tour, after a stop in Atlanta and Memphis late last year, the other two cities on the tour.

I got there just in time to catch a panel of entrepreneurs hosted by friend Tiffany Aliche, The Budgenista that included another friend,  Arsha Jones of Capitol City Mambo Sauce and Tees in the Trap successful multi-million dollar business ventures along with Roc Nation apparel’s Emory Jones on the panel as well.

Also, I am a new fan of Melissa Butler, the founder and creator of a line of vegan lipsticks called The Lip Bar. She too was on the panel. Her brand was there offering all attendees a free matte lip stain!

Our Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum Kelis served up some of her specialties from her new cookbook, “My Life on  A Plate, then later participated in an on-stage Q&A talking her new line of sauces called Bounty and Full,  and balancing motherhood with a recording career and entrepreneurship.

Here are some photos from the My Ford City DC event at Union Market nabbed from social media, my own personal pics and a few official photos below:

Southeast-DC born and bred band Black Alley shared their brand of  unique musical elixir that the group describes is made up of hip-hop, soul, and rock to create  a genre-bending sound called #HoodRock”, adding some authentic DC flare to the event.

DC’s own Grammy-nominated, BET Awards-winning recording artist Raheem DeVaughn swooned the audience with some soulful R&B crooning of his own power hits and a few other well-known covers.

Chef Resha of the very popular Carnal Dish blog provided a sampling of delicacies from her kitchen.

I am in the market for a new SUV myself and our first family car was a Ford Explorer. It was also awesome to get to ride in a 2017 Fusion because I never realized how roomy the 4-door sedan was inside and so much so that it could sub for the larger vehicle we were planning to get. I really dug the dual control temperature system and the fact the new 2018 versions will be Wi-Fi-enabled.

Also, I checked out the latest version of the Explorer. It has been upgraded substantially since with a quad tip exhaust and 20-inch machined aluminum wheels with painted pockets,a powerful 3.5L EcoBoost® engine, sport-tuned suspension and a best-in-class 15 365 V6 horsepower with a six-speed SelectShift® automatic transmission.

And practically speaking, the seating remained pretty spacious with lots of cargo room in the back for family road trips, hauling furniture or groceries. I love the hands-free, foot-activated liftgate feature as well as the 180-degree camera with Split-View and Washer.

For safety purposes, the vehicle also comes with a branded Ford Safe & Smart® Package feature that alerts you of unintentional lane drifting  and allows you to set cruise control and select the speed and distance you want to maintain from the vehicle in front of you.

Lots of good stuff. We definitely will be exploring (pardon the pun) this option on our search.

The Lip Bar did lipstick makeovers.

I listen to WKYS-FM on the radio in the evenings at times so it was also great to see one of the DJs on there I admire, DJ Little Bacon Bear (real name Khalia Canty). I asked the petite curly haired DJ about the origins of her name and she shared it came from a childhood friend for a fictional dynamic duo they formed.

That friend is now a flight attendant. “I’m sure she’s no longer going as our childhood name,” the 5’1′ 100lb young talent  laughed!

Captiol City Mambo Sauce and Tees in the Trap vended and I copped a fab “Thug Wife” Tee!

Overall, it was a wonderful weekend experience that I highly recommend everyone attend if they can the next time the tour makes a stop. There are new cities being added as the festival expands! Keep an eye and ear open for them when announced! I’ll keep you guys updated when I hear again!

Inside Eva Longoria’s Outdoor Pajama Baby Shower

Devious MaidsEva Longoria and her husband Joe Baston celebrated the impending arrival of their first child together, a son, at an outdoor pajama yellow and white themed baby shower earlier this month held at Lombardi House in Hollywood.

The Desperate Housewives alum wore a strapless off the shoulder lace maxi dress to the festive and sunny garden event.

Whoa!Jordin Sparks Rocked Red Carpet For Her New Movie Days After Giving Birth!

We know that Kate Middleton emergeged the same day as giving birth looking like a bed of fresh roses.

Amazing but not normal, well at least nowhere near the average experience of most women!

We know that celebs are subject to unrealistic  pressure  to bounce back and quickly re-emerge into the public eye after having a baby.

We don’t know if Jordin Sparks was thinking of any of that when she decided to hit the red carpet last Saturday at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood on May 5th., a mere days after giving birth to her first child, son Dana Isaiah, Jr.

Then we figured out the new mom was probably under contract to appear at the premiere of her upcoming movie Show Dogs where she voices the role of the dog Daisy in the movie!

She probably jetted right back home or nurse and snuggle with her gorgeous baby boy right after!

Well one thing This appearance did confirm for the celeb stalkers: she did not deliver her son via c-section because those deliveries usually require the mom to be hold up on a bed, recovering from major surgery and probably having a catheter and still stapled bikini line incision for at least three days before being sent home.

The American Idol alum also looked super cute in a  floral Saloni dress, Schutz shoes, and Melinda Maria jewelry.

The baby boy was born May 2 at 9:04 p.m. PT at the Natural Birth Center & Women’s Wellness in L.A. DJ weighed 8 lbs. 4.5 oz. and measured 21.5 inches, People reports.

Sparks describes the birthing process as “miraculously beautiful,” saying, “Dana caught him with my midwife, Simona, and when he handed him to me, I was absolutely overwhelmed with joy. He was and is everything we imagined.” Days after becoming a mother, Sparks told People, “I’m feeling pretty good! I am so grateful for my husband and amazing team at the Natural Birthing Center. I don’t think I would be feeling this great without them!” Sparks adds she “already” loves nurturing her son, gushing, “The joy, laughter, scrapes and bruises…I can’t wait for it all!”
