Adele Did the Universal ‘Pregnant Woman Belly Cup’ and Sent the Internet Crazy!

adele-belly

Yesterday, Adele did the universal subconscious hand over belly cupping that pregnant women do without even thinking, but only she did it in a photo that she posted on her Instagram account. You know what that means?

She triggered the bump watch brigade as speculation among her fans and followers immediately swarmed in social media that the 28-year old singer-songwriter is expecting her second child with husband Simon Konecki.

Recall that at the end of her North America tour, the multi-Grammy Award winner told the farewell tour audience that she was going to go have a baby, indicating that she will take her time off from touring to grow her family.

We know this may be a false alarm, but there have been several incidences in the past when a celebrity may have been pregnant at a time she was photographed cupping her belly but had not made any big public announcement confirming such news. Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez come to mind. (see above and actually Carey later miscarried, we believe)

We have blogged often about the “Bump Watch Speculation” which happens when a celeb woman has overindulged in a meal and is photographed by the paparazzi emerging from a restaurant, wears a dress with an unnatural bubble in it or gains a few pounds that show up in the belly area.  She is immediately presumed to be with child.

It could be nothing. Time will tell. We’ll be waiting. Stay tuned. (smile)

I’m Not Sure If I Agree With This Author’s Assessment about the Evil of Celebrity ‘Bump Watch’

celeb-bump-watch

The Atlantic interviewed the Drake University professor who wrote a book about the celebrity baby bump watch craze. In the October 2015 book,  Pregnant with Stars, Watching and Wanting the Celebrity Baby Bump (The Cultural Lives of Law), Renée Ann Cramer, an Associate Professor and Chair of Law, Politics and Society at Drake, examines the American fascination with, and judgment of, celebrity pregnancy.

The piece launches with Cramer’s response to Beyonce‘s twin pregnancy. Cramer gives her perspective that the celebrity bump watch phenomenon is part of a proverbial “pregnancy industrial complex.”  Cramer analyzed Beyonce’s pregnancy with Blue Ivy in her book.

According to the description of Cramer’s  book in Amazon, Kramer “exposes how our seemingly innocent interest in “baby bumps” actually reinforces troubling standards about femininity, race, and class, while increasing the surveillance and regulation of all women in our society.”

To do so, she compares media coverage of pregnant celebrities, including Jennifer Garner, Angelina Jolie, Beyoncé Knowles, Kristen Bell, M.I.A., Jodie Foster, and Mila Kunis, and then applies sociology pedagogy to criticize said media coverage.

Essentially, she blames bump watch articles for promoting unattainable post-baby bodies, something I’ve blogged about often over the past few years. But Cramer goes further. She actually makes a tremendous leap to link bump coverage with government control of women’s bodies, I suppose via social and legal regulations surrounding access to birth control and abortions, and the like.

It seems to me to be a tenuous connection to say “frivolous celebrity gossip” is part of a larger, and perhaps, covert strategy to control survey, commodification of and control women’s bodies.

I disagree.

I think pop culture and society’s obsession with celebrity pregnancy is just part of the admiration and hero-worship of stars, in general.  It’s just among the newest aspect of celebrity life to become enamored with, nothing more. The media cover what the people want to see. And when we see them click more links on bump watch, guess what, we post more.

The people express interest in it and they click articles about baby bumps, and the gossip rags and blogs, including this one, report on what the people want. It’s symbiotic.

In the Atlantic article, Cramer makes racial distinctions in the coverage and suggests that pregnancies of women of color are hypersexualized and less favorable than of white celebrities.

As a person who has covered celebrities and monitored the other sites coverage, I question that  assessment.  The media coverage is the same for the most part, in my opinion.

What is different is how the pubic reacts. It may be different because a lot of members of the general population already view Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez, for example, as sexual people. These women are sexy and their performance on stage and their clothing is revealing and we talk a lot about their bodies as their bodies are part of their image, their craft and their public persona.

Mila Kunis and Jennifer Garner are not known for that.

Also, celebrities of color aren’t given that much mainstream gossip press that is why niche sites like this one, Black Celeb Kids and Latina magazine fill in the void and the coverage of celebrity pregnancy in our sites are usually more positive.

I do agree that societal views of pregnancy are shaped by what people see when they read media articles about celebrity pregnancies, but I am not wholly convinced that there is a connection with control over women’s bodies. Perhaps, I will read the book and see if there is more to the analysis but from the synopsis and the Atlantic interview, I’m not buying it.

While People Bag on JLo for Dating Young, Jeff Goldblum is latest Over 60 Expecting a Baby with Young Partner

jeff goldblum

At a time when people are giving 47 year old singer-actress Jennifer Lopez a hard time for dating 30-year old rapper Drake, you have male celebrities in their 60s to 70s having babies with women in their 30s and no one bats an eye.

The latest in this latter genre is Independence Day: Resurgence star Jeff Goldblum who is 64 and expecting a second child with his 34-year old dancer wife Emilie Livinston.

She announced the news on her Instagram:

“Round and round we go! I’m 15 weeks pregnant in this shot and I’m SO excited for our newest addition to the Goldblum family, arriving early April!!! #growingfamily #love.”

The newborn will join the couple’s 18-month old son Charlie Ocean.

Goldblum and Livingston – who were wed in Nov. 2014 – welcomed their first child on July 4, 2015.

The Jurassic Park franchise star is next set to appear on screens in Marvel’s highly-anticipated sequel Thor: Ragnarok, alongside a stellar cast including Cate Blanchett, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and Tessa Thompson.

Mick Jagger also recently welcomed a baby with a ballet dancer as well, his 29-year old girlfriend Melanie Hamrick, about a month ago. It was around the same time that 60-year old Mel Gibson announced that he is expecting a baby with his 26-year old girlfriend Rosalind Ross and after another Stones bandmate 68-year old Ronnie Wood and his 38-year old wife  Sally welcomed twins in May 2016.

But J-Lo is wrong for dating younger? Ok. Yeah. Hello double-standard.

Weekend Style Roundup: What and Who Celeb Mamas Wore

weekend2

Celebrities don’t really get a chance to dress down and bum it when they have professional photogs aka paparazzi  lurking in every corner capturing their moves.

Some play along like Chrissy Tiegen who balanced daughter Luna Simone on her hip in some super cute Isabel Marant pointed toe ankle booties. I love her warm off the shoulder Nila Lotan sweater and black slim Parker pants. Baby Luna looked super cute too!

Mariah Carey does black snow bunny in her Quilted Moncler Puffer coat. Not in this shot in the collage, she had on a Louis Vuitton scarf and purse.

Jennifer Lopez went low key in a pair of cool Quay sunglasses. She rocked personalized Timberland boots with her nickname, “Jlo” emblazoned on the tongue. She was warm and cozy in a long ribbed Brunello Cucinelli sweater and not seen in this photo, but she was rocking a Hermes bracelet. Very casual chic!

Jessica Alba hoofed it in a a pair of patent leather boots by Church and she toted a fab quilted Valentino handbag with chain strap while hitting the streets recently.

weekend

Kelly Rowland showed off her blunt cut hair while out and about wearing a the utmost fur-lined black jacket (we hope it was faux fur).  Heidi Klum hit the slopes in a coat by Acne and a pair of black with white stars track pants by Chinti and Parker.

Current, first-time mom-to-be Irina Shayk was rocking some colorful Nikelab x Riccardo pants while out and about. It was Givenchy everything else: jacket, sunglasses and purse. Oww!

Granted some of these moms have personal stylists to help them look this fashionable but you can see their personal style through their looks as well. Work it, mamas!

This Week, What Kellyanne Conway and Jennifer Lopez Have in Common

img_20161222_190902

What does Donald Trump advisor Kellyanne Conway and Jennifer Lopez have in common?

Both, this week, gave up high profile opportunities for their children.

Incoming US President Donald Trump offered Conway the job as his press secretary and she turned it down because she put her family first.

“Before I can accept that job, I have to recognize that I’m a mother of four children who are at very tender, very fraught ages — 12, 12, 8 and 7 — and I can’t just say, ‘Oh, but they’ll be OK,'” she told the New York Times.  “Someone else will take care of them.”

Meanwhile, Jennifer Lopez canceled a New Year’s Eve performance to be with her kids and family too.

The super busy performer, dancer, actress and recording artist canceled a $1M gig at the Miami E11even, citing wanting “personal and family time,” her rep told People. Lopez, our Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum is mom to 8-year old twins Mad and Emme with husband Marc Anthony.

Of course, for both rejections, there are many disappointed people but bravo and kudos for family first, mama bears!

Celebs that Do Co-Parenting Well and Dig Each Other Too

co-parenting

There are new generation of celebrity broken up couples being excellent examples for co-parenting. Some are even still secretly into each other and dating.

Trending this weekend was Kourtney Kardsashian who was rumored to be back with her ex beau and dad to her three kids, Scott Disick. TMZ clarified today that the couple are on friendly terms and travel together for co-parenting reasons though Kourt is open to rekindling their relationship now that Disick has remained clean and sober consistently for a long period of time! The couple co-parent their children together, 6-year old Mason, 4-year old Penelope and 1-year old son, Reign.

Good for them!

Also, rumored to be back together are Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck who parents to 11-year old Violet, 7-year old Seraphine and  4-year old Samuel. Some reports state that they are actually planning to add on to their brood and some say Jen is already expecting. Who knows? Time will tell, for sure!

This weekend, a long-since divorced couple showed some cordial friendly behavior: Madonna and Sean Penn co-presented at an annual charity and had playful antics on stage. Penn even joked about handcuffing Madonna on stage after he took up her challenge to bid $150,000 for a necklace in exchange for her agreeing to marry him again.

Also, during the Latin Grammy Awards in November, Marc Anthony and ex wife Jennifer Lopez  gave each other a kiss after he presented her the Person of the Year award. He has since said that he is still in love with his ex wife and mom to their twins Emme and Max, according to US Weekly.

Sean “Diddy” Comb‘s relationship with his ex Kim Porter‘s son Quincy with 80s R&B recording artist Al B. Sure is ideal because he calls Quincy his son even though he is no longer with Porter and Quincy’s dad is very much alive and around.

Another great co-parenting role model is Jada Pinkett-Smith, who has helped her husband Will Smith raise his son, Trey, with ex Sheree Fletcher. They are great examples of blended families that get along.

Ask Alicia Keys, whose latest hit song is dedicated to blended families!

jennifer-lopez-marc-anthony-onstage-latin-grammys-2016-billboard-kiss-1548-copy-copy-copy

The Latin Grammy  Awards went down last night and our Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum Jennifer Lopez looked stunning on the red carpet in a sheer and lace embellished Zuhair Murad Couture  body suit!

The platinum selling singer and actress also shocked social media when she planted a huge kiss on the lips of her ex hubsand Marc Anthony after the two performed on stage. The couple share childdren, twins Max and Emme.

The event, the 17th Annual Latin Grammy Awards, took place at T-Mobile Arena on Nov. 17, 2016 in Las Vegas.

After being honored as person of the year, Anthony kicked off his performance with a medley that included “I Need to Know,” “Tu Amor Me Hace Bien” and “Vivir Mi Vida,” Billboard.com reportes.  Then Lopez joined him to perform  “Olvidame y Pega la Vuelta,” a classic Pimpinela song. Their duet was available for download on iTunes immediately following the performance.

Anthony was honored by the Latin Recording Academy as person of the year in recognition of his decades-long musical career.  “Marc is a living legend,” Lopez said from the stage. “He is a magical and pure artist giving away classics that will stay forever.  He will always be many things in my life.”

Also, in the house was singer, songwriter and philanthropist Pharrell Williams and his expecting wife Helen Lasichanh. We’ve dubbed them one of the most stylish red carpet couples and they didn’t disappoint! Loved the His and Hers Patent leather Chanel flats. Williams loves to reveal his ankles in cropped pants and of course, he rocked a signature hat.

Fashion Support: When Celeb Moms Wear Other Celeb Moms

celeb moms

I think it’s cool when I see our Bellytich Bumpwatch alums supporting one another by wearing each other’s designs. Like this week, Jennifer Lopez was taking a break from her Vegas show and spotted in a Stella McCartney cotton sleeveless Lion Shirt and a pair of Victoria Beckham classic aviator shades.

Both McCartney and Beckham were featured prominently on the blog when they were expecting their respective last bundle of joy!

JLo paired the top with dark denim, while toting a Christian Loubotin Paloma leather tote with leopard print sides… and look, are those Converse sneakers, Chuck Taylors to be precise? (What do you think? Ping me and let me know.)

With all this talk about the mom hair and mom jeans, Converse trainers may be the new “mom tennis shoe” after all. (Smile)

Celebrity Couples whose Union Didn’t Survive Their Baby’s First Birthdays

bellyitcblog.com spli up

US Weekly reports that Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green have split after 11 years together.

It is the latest in a slate of high-profile celeb break ups this summer including Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck, Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, Sienna Miller and Tom Sturridge, Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick, Charlize Theron and Sean Penn, Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton.

Break ups are sad and we’ve notice that in the 7 years that Bellyitch Blog has been in existence, a substantial amount of celebrity women who we have had on our “bumpwatch” list have broken up with their respective significant others.

Some broke up before the baby was even born: Christina Milian, Kelis, Heidi Klum and January Jones, and many more split with their respective hubby/baby daddies before they even gave birth.

Last year, CiaraEva Marcille (nee Pigford),  and Amber Rose split with their partners before each of  their baby’s turned 6 months old. The separations have been messy, still.  A few years ago, Selma Blair and her ex Jason Bleick split up 14 months after welcoming their first child together.

Others we’ve covered who have called it quits include: The Jamie Foxx show actress Garcelle Beauvais, TV host Padma Lakshmi from Top Chef, Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Freeman from My Wife and Kids, Lauryn Hill, Kimora Lee Simmons (Djimon Hounsou days), Hilary Duff, Fantasia, Halle Berry, Jill Scott, Kate Hudson, Jamie Lyn Spears, Lauren London, Monyetta Shaw (NeYo’s ex), Golden Brooks from “Girlfriends”.

At this point, it’s probably safer to start chronicling those who are still together because they are the new exception, not the rule in Hollywood, it seems. But hey, so long as everyone is happier and better off apart and the off-springs are co-parented well with little to minimum drama, right?

No judgment from us, okay. We’re  just pointing out the trends and facts. Just the facts, ma’am, just the facts! (*smirk*)
