2018 MTV VMAs: Cardi B’s Baby Kultura Fake Out & Red Carpet Trends

Last night was the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards at Radio City Music Hall in New York, New York City on August 20.

Quite a few of our Bellyitch  Bumpwatch alums showed up and/or showed out with draw-dropping performances, on-stage antics, on the red carpet risks and MoonMan winning!

Jennifer Lopez gave an electrifying performance of a medley of her hits over the years before accepting the Video Vanguard Award, the first person of Latino heritage to win the coveted prize.

Cardi B surprised the audience by opening the show cradling what looked like a baby on stage

Many thought they would get the first glimpse of her infant girl Kultura with husband rapper Offset, but she later revealed it was a trophy.

Womp womp womp!!

Later in the evening, the “I Like It” rapper won three of several awards she was nominated for, Song of the Summer for “I Like It featuring Bad Bunny & J Balvin; Best new artist and Best Collaboration for “Dinero” Jennifer Lopez’s song with DJ Khaled Artist of the year.

She was nominated for Best hip hop, Artist of the Year, Best Latin album, also for Dinero and Song of the Year for “Finesse” with Bruno Mars

Beyoncé’s song “APES**T” with her husband Jay Z as part of their duo The Carters won a few technical awards for Best Cinematography and Best Art Direction though that song was also nominated for Best collaboration, Best Direction, Best Choreography,  Best Hop Hop, Best Editing And Video of the Year.

On the red carpet, JLo and Cardi showed out along with other alums Kylie Jenner and Blake Lively, coming through with the pant suit again.

MTV Reality show and other Bellyitch alums Heidi Montag, Nicky Hilton, Nicole “Snooki” Palozzi and Audrina Partridge graces the red carpet also.

One fashion trend that stood out to me was the inptricate sheet organza I saw on singing sisters and Beyonce protege Chloe X Haile, comedic actress Tiffany Hadish and British singing phenom  Rita Ora.

And finally, winning the sex kitten awards: a chaps and chisel abs donning Teyana Taylor, Blac Chyna and red cat woman Amber Rose.

Remy Ma is Almost 5 Months Pregnant

Rapper Remy Ma casually announced during her lavish vow renewal with her husband Papoose (real name: Shamele Mackie) that she was expecting her first child after suffering a miscarriage, infamously referenced during her rap beef with Nicki Minaj  last year.

In the caption to a photo taken by photographer Daniel J. Vasquez, the “Melanin Magic” singer, added the hashtags, “#16weeks #BabyMackie.”

The renewal ceremony itself was an intimate affair with all the guests wearing white and playing Jenga, oversized Connect Four and other lawn games at the garden event.

Papoose followed up with his own  announcement by sharing his excitement:

“Y’all already know I’m on level 1 thousand! Man I almost told y’all so many times! But my wife would’ve killed me. She wanted to wait until after the first trimester!” he captioned a video from the formal portraits taken during the ceremony. “Words can’t describe my happiness. I’m just working/building on myself… So I can be the best father possible! God is good #blacklove.”

Since then, he has posted several times sweet shares about his excitement about finally becoming a father.

She has a teenage college-bound son named Jace and he has a teen daughter Dejanae, both from previous relationship.

Congrats to them both!

2018 Billboard Awards (Quick Rundown)

Mom-to-be Cardi B was nominated for seven Billboard awards tonight at the MGM Grand hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada and came away with a win for Top Rap Female artist award besting Nicki Minaj who was also nominated in that category.

Our other Bellyitch Bumpwatch alum Janet Jackson showed up on the red carpet looking youthful as ever. She was on hand to receive the Icon Award, the first Black Woman to be bestowed the honor. She also performed a medley of her hits including “Nasty”, “Throb” and “If.”

Kelly Clarkson hosted the event and also looked fabulous in a medley of her own of fab  outfits. She started the night addressing the latest school shooting in Texas with a heart felt plea to do something more than have “moments of silences” and “thoughts and prayers” each time there is a school shooting in America. “It’s time we had a moment of action, she pleaded before kicking off the night. Later Khalid and Shawn Mendes did a moving tribute backed by the choir from the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, the site of another school shooting earlier this year.

Christina Alguilera performed a duet with Demi Lovato. Jennifer Lopez performed her song  “Dinero” but without Cardi who did not attend the show and perhaps was dealing with the stresses of her fiance Offset getting into a terrible car accident.

Other celeb moms we’ve featured prominently on the blog in attendance included Jenna Dewan Tatum in Zuhair Murad, Padma Lakshmi, Tyra Banks, Mila Kunis in David Koma  and  Ciara in a body fitting sheer dress..

Fun times!

4 Very Popular Recording Artists That Wrote Lyrics About Miscarriage and Pregnancy Loss

Earlier this year, we blogged about the fact that Harry Styles‘ first single off his self-titled debut solo album, “Sign of The Times” is about a woman dying in childbirth  and this week, we reminded you that Lady Antebellum‘s Hillary Scott penned “Thy Will”to to help herself cope with her 2016 miscarriage.

But did you know there have been a couple of famous rappers who have also released songs with lyrics about pregnancy loss, fertility and miscarriage?

Shawn “Jay Z” Carter might just takes the prize for doing it the most.

In his recent song, 4:44, off the same-titled album, the platinum-selling chart-topper seemingly blames himself for his wife’s Beyonce’s miscarriages and losses by rapping, “I apologize for all the stillborns/ ‘Cause I wasn’t present, your body wouldn’t accept it.”

It’s more likely he was being colloquial and was probably referencing the miscarriages and not stillborn which occur in less than 1% of all pregnancies and happens when a baby is born deceased after 20 weeks gestation.

Later on in that same song, he raps about the praises of having twins, naturally, an acknowledgment is probably an indicator that the duo were anticipating getting help with their fertility from science via IVF.

“Look, I apologize often womanize / Took for my child to be born / See through a woman’s eyes / Took for these natural twins to believe in miracles / Took me too long for this song / I don’t deserve you,” he rapped.

This is not the first time the biz mogul has penned lyrics about pregnancy loss. In 2012, his song “Glory” also addressed a miscarriage Beyonce had before the couple found success and finally welcomed their first child, Blue Ivy Carter.

“False alarms and false starts /All made better by the sound of your heart / All the pain of the last time / I prayed so hard it was the last time,” he opens up in the song.

Later on in the song, he raps, “Last time the miscarriage was so tragic We was afraid you’d disappear, but nah, baby, you magic,” referring to the fear that Blue would have been miscarried too.

Tender huh?

Female rapper Nicki Minaj also seemingly opened up  about a child she lost either to abortion or miscarriage in her 2014 song “All Things Go” on her album “The Pinkprint.

While referencing her baby as an angel watching over her baby brother Micaiah, (who she calls Caiah), she raps:  “I want Caiah to go to college just to say we did it,” she raps about her younger brother Micaiah then adds, “My child with Aaron, would’ve been 16 any minute / So in some ways I feel like Caiah is the both of them / It’s like he’s Cai’s little angel looking over him.”

In a Rolling Stones article published that year also, the Queens native reveals that she had an abortion at age 15 and that she remains haunted by it:

Minaj’s first love was an older guy from Queens she dated while attending the prestigious Manhattan performing-arts high school LaGuardia. When she discovered she was pregnant, “I thought I was going to die,” she admits.

“I was a teenager. It was the hardest thing I’d ever gone through.” Minaj says about the decision that “haunted me all my life,” though it was the right choice for her at the time. “It’d be contradictory if I said I wasn’t pro-choice. I wasn’t ready. I didn’t have anything to offer a child.”

It was never confirmed, but a few folks hypothesized she was singing bout that same child in that song.

Pregnancy Loss is still quite taboo so it’s great awareness building to have A-List stars include it in lyrics to their music, we think.

The Top 10 Names Millennials Parents May Give Their Babies This Year

photo: Danielle MacInnes

Earlier this year, Nameberry came out with its list of top 100 Trending baby names that the popular baby naming site predicts will be most used. Just getting around now, albeit 6 months later, to check out the list and I like a lot of the names on it.

After combing through it, I picked the top 10 Millennial friendly names I think will be most attractive to young couples under 30 and the reasons why I think so:

Thor

  •  Because that new Avengers movie is coming out and it will inspire all the Superhero geeks out there.

Yara

  • The actress, Black’ish‘s Yara Shahidi, is beautiful, smart and on every magazine cover and red carpet looking powerful and smart; and she’s going to Harvard. Nice legacy to want your little girl to aspire to.

Wilder

  • This name just screams Millennial friendly to me!

Remy

  • Rapper Remy Ma famously feuded with Nicki Minaj this year and for all her effort in breaking the internet after her diss tape came out, she won a coveted Best Female Rapper Award at this year’s BET Awards besting lots of great vet rappers including her arch nemesis Minaj herself. For everyone who wants their daughter to overcome tough times and take on Goliath of the world, yes to Remy.

Loyal

  • Like Royal but less douchey. Also, it is unique and has tons of personality.

Echo

  • Because who doesn’t love a competitor to Siri. Besides Amazon.com is taking over the world and naming your kid after one of its newest signature devices will make you feel invincible too, maybe.

Fiona

  • Classic yet not too pretentious.

Frank

  • For a boy and similar reason.

Cassius

  • Because reality TV housewives competed over Cash and Cassius sounds maganaminous. Also, anyone nostalgic and want to remember Mohammed Ali may want to pay homage to him this way by naming their kid after Ali’s birth name.

Arrow

  • Another superhero fan’s dream name.

Foxy Brown Had a Baby Girl but Stayed Mum Entire Pregnancy

foxy-brown-key-to-brooklyn-640x476

Congratulations to rapper Foxy Brown who gave birth to a baby girl though no one even knew she was pregnant.

This morning on the Wendy Williams Show, the radio host turned talk show host discussed why Foxy turned down her offer to perform one of her most famous tracks on the show: she was pregnant!

“Literally, as I’m putting on my bracelet, the telephone rings,” Williams told her audience today.  “Congratulations to Foxy Brown. She had a baby girl. No word on exactly who the baby’s father is, but allegedly it’s a reggae star and I’m not going to say his name because I think that me and Foxy have some sort of relationship, and the bureau does have a working telephone. So, maybe she’ll call us.”

Brown, who was most famous during the 1990s as one of the very few successful female rappers, suffered some hearing loss and actually was recently hospitalized a few months ago, but seemed to be in good health soon after.

Fox seemingly was negatively mentioned by Remy Ma on the Love and Hip Hop: NY reality TV star’s recent “SHEther” diss track with a reference to a “deaf” and not battling with the “impaired” but Brown took the high road and opted out of snapping back.

She was probably too busy being a mom.

Congrat! Can’t wait to see the new baby!

Nicki Minaj’s ‘Baby Father’ reference to Meek Mill This Weekend Was a Joke (VIDEO)

minaj mill bellyitchblog.com

Despite the fact that Friday night Nicki Minaj referred to her rapper beau Meek Mill as her “baby father”, it’s pretty much safe to say that the “Anaconda” hip hop star was not serious.

During her Friday, August 7 tour stop and performance in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania, the Trinidadian American pop star introduced one of Mill’s cameo performances  by saying, “Make some noise for my baby father!”

Maybe she did it to squash rumors that the two had split after the fall out surrounding Mill’s (real name: Robert Rihmeek William) beef with Minaj’s label mate and frequent collabo partner rapper Drake.

She retweeted a fan who congratulated her on the baby news, adding a bunch of crying/laughing emojis, which suggested it was a joke.

Besides, Minaj has already said she is not interested in being a “baby mama” on purpose.

“I definitely will be married before I have my baby,” she told Complex magazine last November 2014. “I’ve always felt like that since I was young, my mother always put that in my head.”

Former Teen Mom creates Post-Pregnancy Friendly Swimsuit Line

A former Florida Teen Mom has released a brand of two piece swimsuits to cover moms’ stretchmarks and C-section scars.

Altrichia Cook says after having her son ten years ago, she struggled finding swimwear to accommodate her post-baby body, Buzzfeed reports.

“I was just looking for a high-waist suit for a vacation with friends to Puerto Rico,” Cook told Yahoo Parenting. “I couldn’t find one, so I took matters into my own hands and designed one.”

When her friends saw the ones she made for herself and began inquiring on how they could get one just like it, Cook realized that she was not alone in her feelings about swimwear and launched  her line, Allusions by A.Lekay.

Her designs are a welcome addition to the market.

“As I have grown, I get so many thank-you emails of women thanking me,” says Cook, who has since reunited with her son Anthony’s father. “One instance, a customer told me that she hadn’t worn a two-piece swimsuit in over 20 years.”

Her line got a recent boost when rapper Nicki Minaj was photographed in one of her designs from her Rockstar collection on the cover of the July issue of Cosmopolitan magazine.

Now that’s what’s up!

Recently, there has been a movement for mothers to embrace their post-baby bodies including all the marks that come with it.

While Cook agrees its important to “love the skin you’re in,” but still, says  “realistically, no woman wants to share her stretch marks or C-section scars.”

Kudos to her and that line! We’ll pick up a pair for the Bellyitch moms on staff!
