I was at my local mall today and spied these very cute wedge Espedrilles with a peek-a-boo toe. Hot right? Only they were in little girls’ size. It got me wondering how adult is too adult when it comes to childrens’ fashion, especially girls. We hardly see boys clothes and accessories in adult styles, and certainly not as sexualized as much of the clothing out there marketed to little girls.
Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise caught much flak when Suri Cruise was spotted wearing kiddie heels often when she was as young as 3-years old.
But there are so many options for girls that fashionista moms can get carried away trying to dress their little “mini mes” like they dress. There is a line that can be easily crossed as in this case:
|A string bikini for a baby?|
French Vogue got a lot of heat for a sexy fashion spread featuring a 10-year old model,Thylane Loubry Blondeau, who posed in these pics:
But there is also the argument that it’s all just innocent play dress up and girls can look so cute when styled.
For example, Ryam Teran of The Inspired Mama blog loves to dress her little girls, Samirah and Nyrah in the cutest styles. Much of it is uber cute even though a lot of it is just miniaturized version of clothes designed for mature women and young adults, like in these photos
And these cuties from BellaStyles. Love their outfits but I’m used to seeing these styles on teenagers. Is this too much or just fun play?
Will Beyonce be dressing little Blue Ivy Carter in her House of Dereon line’s girl clothes (below)? I wonder. It’s competing with the likes of BabyPhat and Sean Jean Kids, similar lines of hip hop kid gear.
I also can’t help but think of the pedophiles that lurk among us who get off on the sight of young children. I can imagine dressing our girls like hot sex kittens are only helping them with their perverted fetish.
