Joran van der Sloot, the Dutch man believed to have killed American Natalee Holloway in 2005 when the Alabama teen was vacationing in Aruba and who is currently serving a 28-year sentence for the murder of a young Peruvian socialite, says he is going to be a dad.
van der Sloot told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf that he accidentally got his current Peruvian girlfriend and registered conjugal visitor, Leidy Figueroa Uceda, pregnant.
According to De Telegraaf, Van der Sloot said the woman uses birth control pills but apparently forgot to take one and cannot have an abortion because she is Catholic.
News media in Peru last year identified Figueroa as Van der Sloot’s girlfriend, and said they had conceived a son together, but she denied it.
Two numbers registered to Figueroa have been cancelled so there’s no way of getting her side of the story so far.
But no one is certain if this all isn’t just another one of van der Sloot’s lies as he confessed then retracted to killing Holloway, even though he is the last person to have seen the girl alive.
He was convicted of robbing and killing of Stephany Flores in a Lima hotel room after meeting her in a nearby casino in 2010. He’s currently serving his sentence in Peru.
