No Hate but Please Don’t Take Celebrities’ Postpartum Weightloss Tips

Listen, blog readers! Please do not take postpartum weight loss advice from celebrities, okay?

I make this request for several reasons:

First, we already know that a lot of them have extensive resources that the average new mom does not have to assist in their rapid post-baby weight loss: personal chefs, dietitians, personal trainers and the like, so without similar support, it’s more of a challenge.

Second, they have more motivation to drop the weight fast because they are in the public eye and get paid to be super thin. Many celebrity women are in the film, fashion and entertainment industry and have to quickly shed weight in order to prepare for a role, get cast gigs or launch a musical tour or they have a shoot they need to slim down for…

The average person should not rush to shed weight but should focus on baby, doing what’s right for their body, getting as much rest as possible, eating nourishing meals if they are breastfeeding and exercise no sooner than two weeks postpartum if they’ve had a vaginal birth or 6 to 8 weeks for C-Section.

Third, following a celebrity’s weight loss advice could be dangerous. There is a great urge to get one’s body back but at what cost?

And certainly, do not drink or digest anything either.

This week, for example, reality TV star Angela “Blac Chyna” White,  revealed a flat’ish tummy on Instagram and credited detox teas after some of her followers accused her of having post-pregnancy weight loss surgery.

Homegirl was spotted out and about by paparazzi and on her social media shares sporting a pretty tiny midsection just days after giving birth to her daughter Dream.

“The only reason it got that flat, you guys, is from breastfeeding and breast pumping and from my body already being small before my pregnancy,” she captioned a photo in social media. “Not surgery guys.”

 

Chyna, who is famously engaged to Rob Kardashian, said she is drinking Skinny Tea as a supplement.

“Post Baby Body already snapping back quickly,” she said in another IG photo. “Before I head out I’m drinking @teamiblends Skinny tea, in my purple tumbler,” she continued. “This tea gives me great energy plus it’s perfectly safe while breastfeeding Dream!”

Um… really? When we went to the website to confirm if this was true, a notice on the company’s FAQ (Frequently Asked Question) page read:

If you are currently breastfeeding we suggest that you take a list of our ingredients (on our website) to your doctor and verify that you, or your baby, are not allergic to any of the plants or herbs. Our products are all-natural and chemical-free – but we always want to make sure that it is okay for your baby!

We do not recommend the Teami Colon while you are breastfeeding due to the gentle laxative effect that can occur. This is not recommended from breastfeeding moms due to the possibility of transferring particles over to the infant.

So…no, drinking diet tea is not necessarily the best while breastfeeding. You have to consult your doctor first! The endorsement seems to be a paid ad so there is no true certainty that she is indeed even really drinking that stuff.

No shade, and I love Chyna, but my priority to my readers is safe pregnancy and post-partum experience. I am not a doctor but I am mom to three children and I have been blogging about pregnancy for over 9 years now.

Please, people, take care of your self and body first before focusing on weight loss. Thanks!
